Tues Dec 2,, 15. Will Peyton Manning win another Super Bowl?
by Jeffrey Beall
There is no doubt that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, but at 39 years old he is looking past his best and lacking a lot of the sharpness he once possessed.
Before the start of the 2015 season he had already considered retirement only to be convinced to play another season, even though it involved taking a $4million pay cut.
Some pundits are saying that he made the wrong decision and should have hung up his boots. Fans of the game would love to see a legend like this bow out on a high, but what are the chances of this happening?
The first thing to consider is whether this really will be his last season in the game. Although some say that he should have retired at the end of the last campaign when he eclipsed the all-time touchdown pass record, others think he still has a few more years left in him.
He may lack the awareness and the fitness he once had but he still has one of the greatest footballing minds in the world. The thing is, though, if he does go on to play more seasons after this it may not necessarily be with the Denver Broncos.
Obviously if he joins a team of lesser renown his chances of claiming a second Super Bowl win will be diminished. Taking these things into consideration, it would be fair to say that this season is his last good chance of lifting the Lombardi Trophy again.
At the time of writing, Denver Broncos are 12/1 with Bet 365 in the NFL betting lines to win the Super Bowl. They are by no means the top contenders but they still have a strong chance. There are some other power houses out there that are looking solid, so the Broncos will have to raise their game.
So far this season the Broncos have been overly reliant on their defence, which has been robust, and is the reason they have been winning games all season. The problem that Manning seems to be having is with the first-year coach, Gary Kubiak’s offence.
Manning looks uncomfortable when performing the rollouts that are a key feature of Kubiak’s attack. His best moments so far have come about in the Shotgun formation when using his own plays, rather than Kubiak’s.
So what can the Broncos do to improve their chances of getting to the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on February 7th? The key thing would be for Manning to focus and hit some form, and in the process remind the world why he is the greatest quarterback ever.
He is an amazing motivator and leader and should use these skills to galvanise the team and make each of them better. On his day Manning has the ability to hurry an offence and drop 28 points on the opposing team in half a quarter. He needs to once again strike fear into the opposition’s defence.
One thing is for certain, Manning is one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen, and if it is his last season he will do everything in his power to make it count.
