5 facts about the allegations against the U. SoonerLeesa's Hardcore style report!
She's done it again! Another great Hardcore style Sports report from SoonerLeesa.Below is some of the article with the link below to the report.
They call it “The U.” The U must stand for Underarm, because right now, the University of Miami is definitely the armpit of NCAA scandal.
Looking at the pictures of Nevin Shapiro that accompanied the now infamous Yahoo! Sports article that broke this story, booster is the perfect adjective to describe him. I’m pretty sure he needed a booster seat wherever he went. To drive, in a movie theater, at a restaurant table. Wee, little man with deep, deep pockets and a devoted fan – the perfect storm for rampant NCAA violations.
Jimmy Johnson also had the best reply to one of Shapiro’s allegations I have heard. Shapiro described taking some players in question to party on his 1.6 million dollar yacht. Johnson said, ” A million dollars? That’s not a yacht. That’s a boat.”
Let’s discuss the said “death penalty.” When Southern Methodist got busted,.......... This is just a mere drop in the bucket compared to the allegations against “The U.” Perhaps the U stands for Ugly. Ugly is what it already is and only going to become uglier.

Well here we have it, the final weekend of NCAA Football Bowl games of the year. Monday's Orange Bowl was close at the half when Stanford led Virginia Tech 13-12 but then touted #1 overall pick in the NFL draft QB and Heisman trophy finalist Andrew Luck blew Va. Tech out in the 2nd half en route to a 40-12 rout. Since then, Luck annouced he was foregoing the NFL draft to return for his junior year and coach Jim Harbaugh signed on to become the new San Francisco 49ers head coach.
In the Sugar Bowl, Ohio State left me a happy camper, holding on by the skin of their teeth for a 31-26 win over Arkansas despite squandering a 28-10 halftime lead. The troubled Buckeye special teams would allow a blocked punt with just over a minute to play. But the Razorbacks player made the mistake of only covering the ball, as one would do on a non special teams play. A failure to scoop and score led to an interception on the ensuing play from scrimmage at the OSU 15. Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett later declared for the NFL draft despite the lousy end of his college career. The win snapped Ohio State's 0-9 record vs the S EC conference in bowl games.
On Friday at Jerry World the LSU Tigers would extend Texas A&M's bowl futility at the Cotton Bowl with a 41-24 victory. Too many turnovers and a lack of defense would do in the Aggies after they had jumped out to an early 10-0 lead.
Leaving Calgary in perfect timing as a snowstorm and cold weather kicked in this morning. Was looking forward to seeing the Compass Bowl on TSN on the flight down but despite the convenience of the game being available on the airline's satellite tv for once, guess what the only unavailable channel was? Instead the only "sports" on tv was poker on the Score. Please tell me how depite being a great card game it continues to be televised by sports networks?!
Planning to attend the schools pep rallies at the Waterfront in Scottsdale tomorrow." John Schick
From Tues Jan 4, 11. Pt 2, NCAA Bowls report from John Schick!
John Schick is a mate of mine from Western Canada. He is the most fanatical NCAA footy fan from Canada that I have known. Below is a NCAA Bowl's report from John who just returned from NCAA Bowl games.
"Pt 2, NCAA Bowls reportfor NCAA webWORLD on mykaussie.com!" John Schick.
Well, New Years day couldn't have gone any worse for the Big 10 Conference with its 0-5 showing. It included both Michigan schools getting blown out. The day started with a new Bowl game from Dallas called the Ticket City Bowl. Texas Tech prevailed over Northwestern, 45-38.
In the traditional Florida Jan 1 Bowl games, Mississippi State blew out Michigan 52-14 in the Wolverines worst ever Bowl loss at Jacksonville in the Gator Bowl. This loss will help in the possible firing of coach Rich Rodriguez who has been on the hot seat all year. His spread offense has just not fit in Michigan as it did in West Virginia.
Meanwhile, in Orlando, the Alabama Crimson Tide crushed Michigan State 49-7 in the Capital One Bowl. It was the most lopsided loss by a top 10 team in Bowl game history. So much for the co champs of the Big 10 being left out of the BCS due to only 2 teams from 1 conference being allowed in. Wisconsin and Ohio State received those bids due to their higher BCS final ranking.
Down I-4 in Tampa at the Outback Bowl, a much more competitive game had Florida outlast Penn State 37-24 in coach Urban Meyer's final game as Gators coach. He's retiring at age 46 due to health issues. His counterpart, Joe Paterno plans to coach on even though he's 108 years old now (actually he's 84). A late game pick 6 sealed it for the Gators.
In the grand daddy of them all, what looked earlier in the game like a shootout turned out to be a squeaker with undefeated TCU being left to wonder what could have been after a 21-19 win over Wisconsin Badgers in thet Rose Bowl. A failed 2 point conversion was the difference. One has to wonder why a team with an offensive line averaging 327 pounds and a 260 pound running back wouldn't try to pound it in rather than throw it after much success on the ground all game. TCU now moves to the Big East Conference in 2011 and is eligible for an automatic BCS bowl bid should they win the conference title.
In the final game of the day at the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, as anticipated the Big 12 Champion Oklahoma Sooners crushed the undeserving Big East champion 8-4 Conneticut Huskies 48-20 to snap their 5 game BCS losing streak. The game was never really in doubt with the Sooners jumping ahead early and sealing it with 2 late scores off turnovers. The Huskies showed life at times but couldn't move the ball enough in their first ever BCS bowl game." John Schick.

In the 2011 Fiesta Bowl, Oklahoma Sooners defeated Connecticut Huskies 48 to 20 at Glendale Stadium in Phoenix.
"NCAA Bowls reportfor NCAA webWORLD on mykaussie.com" John Schick.
Well, we're getting into the better bunch of NCAA bowl games now. Thursday was incredible! Army had a 16-14 victory over the Mustangs of Southern Methodist (Dallas) coached by former Atlanta Falcons field boss June Jones and his high powered run and shoot attack that was shut down in the Armed Forces Bowl. That was Army's first bowl win in several years, an upset to help the triple option offense finish 7-6.
Next up we had the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl from snowbanked Yankee Stadium. Syracuse outlasted Kansas State 36-34 after a controversial celebration penalty forced Syracuse to go for the tying 2 point conversion from the 18 rather than the 3. All the guy did was point to the sky and salute when other guys in other games had done worse! Brutal!
Then we had the Music City Bowl from Nashville TN. One of the wildest finishes that you'd only see in college football. With North Carolina up 17-14 in the 4th qtr, the predominately partisan Tennessee volunteer crowd was overjoyed when the Vols took the lead yet shocked when the kicker missed an extra point after a bad snap to leave it a FG game at 20-17. North Carolina was forced into a 4th and 20 gamble and had a first down pass dropped! Still had life though with the use of their 2 time outs. 32 seconds to play ball on their own 20.
With the help of TN penalties they were able to get into tying field goal range but botched a draw play and killed the clock. Wait, a too many men on the field penalty and review showed 1 second had been left when the QB spiked it to stop the clock. NC was given a shot to tie it, albeit 5 yards back after the penalty. Field goal tied it then went to 2 over times after exchanging TDs. Tennessee throws a pick and NC wins it 30-27 on a FG in 2nd over time. Crazy finish!
Holiday Bowl was a rematch between 14 point favorite Nebraska and former Roughrider QB Steve Sarkisian's washington Huskies. Back in September the Cornhuskers went up to Seattle and blew out the Huskies by 35! Completely different story in San Diego as the Huskies upset the Huskers in their Big 12 conference finale 19-7. They are moving to the Big 10 conference now." John Schick

Ooch, the Hawaii Warriors were
defeated 41 to 10 by the Georgia Bulldogs in Tuesday nights Sugar Bowl in New
Orleans! The famous Villi the Warrior on NFL Pro Bowl MYKwebTV!
Wow! What a domination it was by
the Bulldogs on Offense and Defense. I watched the whole game as I had only been
able to watch the Hawaii Warriors once during the 07 season yet Moose Salzer has
written weekly NCAA Football reports on here focusing on the Warriors. I was
hoping for a Warriors win and then was hoping they could at least make a game of
it after it became obvious the Bulldogs were a better team.
I particularly enjoyed 1) The commentary by Fox about the history of the
Warriors, 2) Comments about their approximately $50,000 a year recruiting budget
compared to the massive budgets of the top rated teams 3) The great job that
June Jones has done coaching the Warriors 4) All the Hawaii fans dressed up

"Colt Brennan takes a knee a foot away!" by Super Bowl Wayne
Yes folks
that is exactly what happened in Friday nights game between University of Hawaii
and Boise State for the Western Athletic Conference Championship Game. The UH
Warriors had run the ball for nearly 7 minutes up to the one foot line. UH had
just got a first and goal on the one foot line with about 42 seconds on the game
clock. On the previous set of downs, it was first and ten on the ten yard line
with two minutes left in the game.
The
Warriors took the football on their own 30 yard line and ran the ball to the one
foot line and a first and goal. UH Head Coach, June Jones signaled for Brennan
to take a knee when it was clear the game was over. UH was leading by 12 points,
the score was 39 to 27 over The Boise State Broncos. What a class act by June
Jones not going for the touch down and piling it on Boise State. The University
of Hawaii fans erupted in pandemonium. Student fans jumped the rail on to the
field. Next thousands of fans rush the field. The Police were then concerned to
protect the Goal Posts.
The fans
were a happy bunch. They wanted to celebrate their first out right WAC
Conference Championship ever. At one point the fans lifted Colt Brennan up on
their shoulders and paraded him around like their their true Football "King".
Colt himself was loving it. This win gave the Warriors their 11Th win in a row,
and kept the UH team undefeated. ( Tonight Kansas lost to Missouri) NOW
University of Hawaii is the only undefeated I-A -NCAA football team is the
country.
Next week
UH-Warriors plays host to the University of Washington Huskies. This game should
determine if the UH Warriors can receive a BCS Bowl bid. UH must win its 12Th
game next week over University of Washington to be come the only undefeated
College I-A team . The game will be again Nationally televised. What Bowl game
doesn't want an undefeated team for it game and a Heisman candidate too." Super

From Moose and Michele "Lead by the strong passing of Heisman Candidate QB Colt
Brennan (who threw 6 TDs) and the rushing of Dave Farmer, Kealoha Piralres and
Brennan, Hawai'i cruised Saturday night over New Mexico St University, 50-13.
Brennan broke the U. Hawai'i school mark of current Hamilton - CFL QB Timmy
Chang's 117 career TD passes and now the NCAA's all-time TD passer with
119 TD passes. Brennan has passed for the 119 TDs in half the time it took Timmy
Chang to pass for that many. Chang played in 56 games from 2000-04, including
that three game red-shirt season of '01 and Brennan has now started 23 games at
QB for the Warriors.
True froshman RB Pilares has beaten out Nebraska transfer RB Leon
Wright-Jackson, who has also had his time but by rJr RB Dave (Farmer Dave)
Farmer, who slimmed down from 237 to 224 lbs. this past offseason. Hawai'i has a
bye week this weekend and plays Boise St, who I saw in Idaho back in late Sept,
in two weeks. Once again Colt Brennan has been named WAC Player of the Week.
Other Hawai'i QBs to be honoured for Offencive Player of the Week in June Jones
coaching tenure with the Warriors include: Shawn Withy-Allen, Timmy Chang many
times, Jason Whieldon, Dan Robinson and Nick Rolovich. Rolovich, Chang,
Withy-Allen and reserve QB-WR-H Jared 'Red' Flint have gone on to play in one
Pro League or another. Brennan may also be the best runner of the bunch, though
I still think that Withy-Allen who rushed for 1,000 arena league yards, no small
feat is. Brennan will go further in the Pros before it's all over though. Now on

that is going on at the Stadium.
Boise St 58 defeated New Mexico St 0 and I was there at the game!
The Boise St Broncos beat
up on injury depleted New Mexico St Aggies at the Broncos Stadium here in Boise,
Idaho. The air is clean, the water not so great here at this Best Western but
the I-net is free and I am feeling good this morning as the fellow WAC Hawai'i
Warriors beat the Utah St Aggies (also!), 52-37. Despite Colt Brennan
re-injuring his right high ankle sprain, the Warriors got 4 TDs out of backup QB
Tyler Graunke. Graunke and third string QB Inoke Funaki rushed for 21 yds., and
1 TD also.
Boise ST Canadian Players: OL Drew Woodruff [B.C.], 'The Canadian
Crippler', LB Josh Bean [Calgary], OL Jon Gott [Ontario] and Hawai'i player from
Moloka'i: Kapono Rawlings-Crivello. One more player also from Amsterdam, too. I
didn't get his name. Special Thanks to all those
at Boise ST who looked out for me; the Athletic Director, players, staff!
New Mexico St is mainly known for it's fine QBs over the years; Prof. Charley
Johnson, 55 once a Denver Bronco/Houston Oiler/and Saint Louis Cardinal, Buck
Pierce and Joe Pisarcik of the
CFL, et, al. But when starting QB Chase Holbrook went out with a rib reinjury it
was lights out on any chance the other Aggies had on winning up here in Idaho.
Boise St on the other hand used their first two QBs Taylor Tharpe, Nick Lomax,
and a frosh third QB to
perfection in getting 55 players time on the field in a rout.
Hawai'i
is now #15 in the NCAA Top Rankings. They are off to their best start since
1980.

Hawai'i's Junior Navy QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enada is about to break Dallas
Cowboys all-time great QB Roger Staubach's Navy rushing record and could even
come close to his QBing Passing Stats as well in the next season. He has won the
trophy for the best player in the Armed Forces sports teams for this year. Navy
has beaten Air Force and Army in the last two years. Congratulations, kanaka. No
Ka Oi!
Speaking of the University of Hawai'i, Heisman Trophy Candidate QB Colt Brennan
has now achieved 21 TDs and only six INTs though he did throw 5 (three tipped in
the air by WRs), in the Warriors rout of Idaho, 48-20 this past weekend. The
Warriors are in first place in the WAC with a 5-0-0 mark and 2-0-0 in the WAC.
Brennan has over 1,500+ yds., passing though he missed last weekends game v.
Charleston Southern. Hawai'i 66, Charleston Southern 10, More. Hangin' with
'Super Bowl' Wayne and Rand 'The Man' Miyamoto at Aloha Stadium. This week:
Hawai'i Warriors, 4-0-0 v. Idaho Vandals, 1-3-0, 0-0-0 in WAC at Moscow,Idaho.
Next weekend; I am at Bosie St. v. new Mexico St., another WAC game.
Last weekend: at Aloha Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 22nd, 2007; Hawai'i 66,
Charleston Southern Buccaneers 10. Injured and out: Heisman Trophy Candidate
Hawai'i QB Colt Brennan. Left in Second quarter: WR Jason Rivers. Charleston
Southern: Centre: Rick Howell (came back in thrid quarter) and QB Eli Byrd, hurt
twice left game for good in third quarter.
Just Wondering Dept: Whatever happened to my homeboy Pesefea Fiaseu, Jr?!
Storyline: QBs Tyler Graunke and Inoke Funaki completed 28 of 45 passes for 363
yds., 5 TDs (plus one more rushing by Graunke) and racked up: 459 yds., Offence
in Brennan's absence to help the Hawai'i Warriors NCAA team to their only second
4-0-0 start in school history. It was a game time decision that didn't set well
with Brennan, but it was a wise on for Coach June Jones. Later in the year
especially it will be looked back on as one of the best decisions Coach made.
Maybe Athletic Director Herman Frazier, who Wayne, Randy and I talked to after
the game, planned the Charleston Southern game in clairvoyance! Brennan could
have played on his bad ankle but by beating Ch. So. by 56 points (believe this
or not, the spread for the game was SIXTY!), Graunke, who played the first three
quarters and Funaki, a sub who played almost every play of the fourth (except
the final kneel down) did plenty enough.
Graunke had an inauspicious start by throwing 2 INTs in his first four passes.
But Hawai'i's Defence stopped to deep drives to the Hawai'i goaline in the first
when trick plays by the Buccs blew up in their faces. The Buccs are now 1-3-0,
but more importantly still 1-0-0 in their Conference. Truth be told, the Buccs
no huddle, type of 'K-gun' Offence caused the Warriors problems in the first
half. Hawai'i lead only 21-10 at the half. The introspective Graunke, who's
played five different positions at Hawai'i in his three years on varsity, blamed
himslef. Rust was the probable cause especially after all-WAC WR Jason Rivers
went out. Aaron Bain an Malcolm Lane (one TD each) more than filled in
adequately. To start the third quarter, Ryan Mouton, a reserve CB returned the
opening kickoff for a TD. Then on Hawai'i's first Defencive series, S Jake Patek
forced an INT that was picked off by LB Adam Leonard (who later sat out the 4th
quarter with a slight ankle sprain) and returned for a TD. All of a sudden it
was 35-10 and the rout was on. Hawai'i scored 31 unanswered points the rest of
the way out and Jones was able to get 57 players time on the field.
Game Balls: 1) QB Tyler Graunke, 4
TDs.
2) KR-CB Ryan Mouton
3) LB Adam Leonard
4) K Dan Kelly
5) DE Dave Veikune, 2 sacks
Honourable Mention: Special Teams player/reserve S Guyton Galdiera (six tackles,
five on Special Teams)
The 36,000+ fans there at Aloha Stadium sure enjoyed another Warrior blowout win
but the biggest question in Hawai'i sports lately is: Should the state of
Hawai'i build a new stadium or 'just' refurbish the old Aloha stadium? When
Super Bowl Wayne LaVelle picked me up at my Hotel Saturday morning, he drove us
down to Olelo to pick up a camera, tripod and attachments (we had to get 9-volt
batteries and film also - and a card and $20 Starbucks gift certificate for Mr.
Ben Yee,of the Na Koa (The Warrior) Club for the two VIP Passes (B) that were
left at Will Call for us (Wayne and I - Randy was a spotter for the game in his
spot in the reporters booth, as usual). We accomplished many things that I am
proud of on this day but mostly hangin' with Wayne and learning more than I have
learned with my other partnership in the last 5.5 years. Wayne and I interviewed
many people in the tailgate party outside the Stadium and inside as well on the
somewhat thorny question of should the state of Hawai'i raise the estimated
$300-$500/mil. need to build a new Stadium or 'just' refurbish the old Aloha
Stadium, which was built in 1974-75.
The first tenants of the Aloha Stadium were the old Honolulu Hawai'ians of the
old World Football League back in early '75 (the Stadium opened then in June),
then the U. Hawai'i (then) Rainbows played their first home game there on Sept.
1975. In 1977 the Pacific Coast League S.F. Giants 'AAA' affiliate the Hawai'i
Islanders started playing baseball there. One of their first players was (get
this!) Barry Bonds, Jr., sans the steroids and with the Pittsburgh Pirates in
the Bigs shortly later. The Islanders moved to Colorado Springs, CO., later in
1987. Concerts featuring Celine Dion, Cheap Trick, Janet Jackson, Sting and many
others followed. The structure of the Stadium has been weakened over the years.
All it took for me to realize this is one trot over the catwalks on the open
corners where the trade winds come in one year during an AFC-NFC Pro Bowl game
once. I love the open corners and other things about Aloha Stadium.
It's surely the prettiest Stadium I've seen Pro Football in although I love five
or six in the CFL and Cleveland Browns Stadium and QuaalCom in San Diego is
surely fine as well. Arizona's old stadium, RFK and old Memorial are also
all-time favorites of mine throughout the years. We are puting out a DVD on the
interviews we conducted and I'll have more news about that later. Super Bowl
Wayne and Rand 'The Man' Miyamoto are two of my all-time favorite Pro sports
reporting folkes and have done more than anybody in the last 5-6 yrs., I know in
the business. It's funny, but when I called Wayne and left a message, he called
right back and the Ohana Honolulu Airport Hotel did well to put the call through
to my room. When I asked about Randy M., Wayne said, "Turn on 1180
a.m. tonight and I bet he's doing a IHL or OHL game tonight. I did it right then
(!) and there was Randy! It was like I went back in time to when Randy and I
used to be on 'Sports Rap' three years earlier!
Randy is still spotting at Aloha and I learned a lot from Randy and Wayne about
being on radio which parlayed into a paying gig later with Sirius and with the
Virginian Pilot Sports. Randy informs me that in Nov. KUMU 2 radio, which I used
to be a part of too, will be going 24/7 and he hopes to get on there with
another show. I gave Randy my digits and still have his and we will be blasting
the airwaves on the Aloha state with uneasy listening soon again. Praise the
Lord and Mahalo and Aloha. Now I need to give thanks to a bunch of people here
that this the best trip of the year: The University of Hawai'i for not
forgetting a former student and a great sportscaster for the VIP passes; Rand
'The Man' Miyamoto of 1180 a.m. Hawai'i Sports Radio. Can't wait for the new
show Randy!; Gary Dickmann and Sports Animals, even though he and I have
differences, the short but effective Kalani Simpson, Wayne LaVelle, Gary, Mark

Week 3 Report! #18 Hawai'i wins big over UNLV, plus Hawai'i Stats Offence
through 3 games!" Moose Salzer
This past weekend the University of Hawai'i moved up two more notches in the
standings by pasting the University of Nevada Las Vegas, 49-14. QB Colt Brennan
crossed the wires of UNLV by beating them with his legs rather his million
dollar arm this week. Brennan ran for three TDs and lead Hawai'i in rushing for
the second time in three games this season. Brennan rushed for 19 yards in the
Warriors win.
NCAA Milestone: Brennan also set the all-time NCAA record with 29 straight 300
or more yard passing games.

Tues,
Sept 11 07 "Hawai'i
guts out tough win over Conference rival Louisiana Tech and Profile! New Mexico
St QB Chase Holbrook!" Moose Salzer
Hawai'i got by Louisiana Tech on Colts Brennan's 516 yds. passing Saturday night
in Louisiana. But it took a blocked two-point convert at the 0:00 mark of the
fourth quarter to preserve the victory against a very fired up LA Tech team. The
Warriors are home the next three weeks and I will be there for the Charleston
Southern game (Sat. Sept. 21st).
Profile: New Mexico St's QB Chase Holbrook
Two years ago Chase Holbrook thought by now he'd be the team's starting TE. But
like that 1970's N.M. St QB-TE guy Joe Pisarcik, he's at the controls of one of
the nations best Offences. Which is good timing since the University of Hawai'i
one of their Conference rivals in the WAC has Heisman hopeful Colt Brennan
(nearly 1,000 yds. passing in (2-0) games). Holbrook's journey to the starting
QB role deserves repeating. Coming out of High School at 250 lbs., and 6'5".
Holbrook last year set several school records breaking CFL'r's Buck Pierce and
Pisarcik's mark passing with 4,619 yds., and 34 TDs. Holbrook turned down offers
to tranfer to other NCAA school like Minnesota, Southeast Louisiana and Kentucky
who all but told him he's start for them at TE. Remember that Pisarcik only
started one year at New Mexico St (1973) after spending his time at TE with New
Mexico St. Pierce, 6'1", 200 has always been a QB. There is certainly a QB spot
awaiting Holbrook in the CFL, just as Pisarcik (1974-76, Calgary) and Pierce
(2005-07, B.C.Lions) have found out. That is if the NFL snubs him and he doesn't
get drafted just like Joe and Buck didn't. Good luck Chase!" Moose Salzer

NCAA '07 Picks and Notes - What to watch for:
Hawai'i QB Colt Brennan to have maybe the biggest year in NCAA history re:
passing records and be the first Hawai'i player to: (A) Win the Heisman Trophy
and (B) Be the first Hawai'i player ever taken in the first round of NFL draft.
New Mexico St Defencive Coordinator Woody Widenhofer, former architect of
the Steel Curtain, Pittsburgh Super Bowl Defence, and USFL Coach (Oklahoma
Outlaws) will be using the 5-2-4 defence this year and this is a team to watch
out for. Also:QB who I will write more about either tomorrow or the next day
[High School football begins in the VHSL tomorrow for me and I have a game at
4p.m. sharp tomorrow.]
Major Applewhite, who
split the QB job with lefty Chris Simms at Texas, is now the Offencive
Coordinator at Alabama. It could be the perfect fit there for both.
New Coaches:
Air Force - Troy Calhoun, Alabama - Nick Saban, Arizona St - Dennis Erickson,
Army - Stan Brock, the former two-team Arena League Coach, Iowa St - Gene Chizik,
Idaho - Robb Akey, Florida International - Mario Cristobal, Cincinnati - Brian
Kelly,
Louisiana Tech - Derek Dooley, Louisville - Steve Kragthorpe, Miami (FL) -
Randy Shannon
At U. Wisconsin, ex-NFL E player Paul (Jeep) Chryst is the new Offencive
Coordinator. At Texas, Defencive Coordinator is now ex-Hawai'i reserve QB Kainoa
Akina's dad, Duane who has been on the staff for seven years and also played in
the NCAAs way back.
University of California kanakas to watch for: Tyson Alualu, DL, Matt Malele,
DL, WR Will Ta'ufo'ou. Oregon St kanakas to watch for: Al Afalava, P/H, William
Akau'ola'vea, DL. Arizona U. kanakas to watch for: QB Willie Tuitama, Sr. Oregon
QB to watch for: Brady Leaf, brother of former number 1 NFL pick Ryan.
Washington kanaka to watch for: LB Trent Tuiasosopo. Southern Methodist QB
Justin Willis, NBA Kevin's nephew, threw for 2,047 yds., and 15 TDs last year.
If he stays healthy they could make the playoffs." Moose Salzer
Tues,
Aug 14 07 "NCAA
Profile, the Countries best Offencive Lineman, USC's Sam Baker! Hawai'i Warriors
2007 preview!" Moose Salzer
Yes, Commissioner C. Dave Baker sure grows 'Em big! Dave stands Six feet nine
and one half inches, oldest son Ben, who played at Duke is six feet seven and
333 lbs. and Sam is 'only' six feet five and a half, 305 lbs. Sam is of course
Sam Baker, the best Offencive Lineman in the NCAAs in football. Sam will no
doubt be a first round draft pick of the NFL next year. Heck, Commissioner Dave
Baker could probably quit as Ar.FL Commish and just make a living being Sam's
agent.
USC Coach Pete Carroll, formerly the Jets and Patriots NFL teams Coach says it's
not only the genes but the work ethic that sets Sam apart from the rest of the
outstanding linemen in the NCAAs at various University programs. Last year he
played the whole season with a piece of knee bone broken off in the joint and
loose cartilage in his left knee to boot.
Offencive Line Coach at USC, Pat Ryel says he's the best he's ever seen. He says
Sam 'may' have given up three sacks at the school in four years as a starter.
Think about all the greats that have come out of USC; new NFL Hall of Famer
Bruce Matthews, Ron Yary, Marvin Powell, Anthony Munoz and Sam's the best?
Unreal. Also look for senior Noseguard Sedric Ellis, DE Lawrence Jackson,
LB Keith Rivers and TE Fred Davis to be drafted next year by the NFL too.
NCAA Hawai'i
Warriors 2007 preview. Preseason College
Football #20 BCS pick.
Coach: June Jones, III. Ninth year: 64-40-0 record. Four and two in bowl
games. Second on all-time wins list for U/H.
Offence:
Look for Senior QB Colt Brennan to fill it up to vet WRs like Ryan Grice-Mullen,
Aaron Bain, Dylan Linkner, Jason Rivers and Davone Bess, who has learned to
catch instead of dropping the ball usually. The biggest losses on the Offence
were at RB where Regan Mauia (NFL Dolphins) and Nate Illoa (NFL Eagles)
graduated and went Pro. RBs this year, with Siave Seti going back to DL are 2
yr.vets Dave 'Farmer Dave' Farmer (2 TDs), Alonzo Chopp, Jazen Anderson, Jason
Laumoli and Cannon Berrong, a first yr. sr. The Offencive Line of mostly
seniors like Keoni Steinhoff, Herc Satele, Keith Ah Soon, Mike Lafaele,
Larry Sauafea and John Estes roam will be solid as usual. Jones' teams
have put six Offencive linemen in the NFL and one in the CFL since he came in
in' 99. Rating: A-.
Defence:
Gone are several DLm who are now in the NFL/CFL. But with seniors up front like
Karl Noa, Siave Seti (formerly a FB/MLB/DE), Dave Veikune, Keala Watson and
versatile Rocky Savi'iagaea, the Warriors won't really miss former Coordinator
Jery Glanville's sort of weird 3-5-3 set. It worked for one-and-a-half years,
then G switched to a 4-4-3. This year with the talented senior laden LBs like
Timo Paepule, Rustin Saole, 'Brad Kali'imoku, who played mostly SS last year,
Micah Lau, CJ. Allen- Jones and Tyson Kafetzis, it'll be difficult to get all of
them playing time. Lau will play U-back onpunt teams and Paepule will also play
DE. No shortage of bodies here. The Defencive Backfield is loaded too with
returning vets: Myron Newberry, Ryan Keomaka, Solomon Elimimian, Jake Patek, A.J.
Martinez, Khevin Peoples amd Mario Cox, both of whom can play RB and WLB as
well. Rating: B+
Special Teams:
Denver Broncos great Jason Elam is the best K/P in U. Hawai'i history. He
played both positions in the late '80's. Unless one of the young prospects
like Kiran Kepo'o, Ryan Mouton or Josh Aufai beats him out at P, Dan Kelly will
do both again. Kelly is the best K Hawai'i has had since Elam and the best P
since Dallas' Mat McBriar. Coverage will be laed by C.J. Allen-Jones and
Kirk Alexander. A new Longsnapper must be found. The best Hawai'i probably ever
had was former two-year Amsterdam Admiral, T.J. Moe. Returns will be handled by
Mike Washington,Khevin Peoples, Mario Cox and Dylan Linkner. Rating: B.
Overall outlook:
The Warriors have a few holes to fill in the lineup a record six ex-Warriors
were drafted by the NFL in the '07 draft. Brennan and all the starting WRs from
last year are back. All the LBs and DBs are back. Their schedule is not that
difficult. A 12-1-0 record should be good enough to win the Warriors the WAC, by
themselves, something JJ has not been able to do in the previous eight seasons
here. It's coming this year. Predicted Finish: #19 BCS, WAC winners and QB Colt
Brennan wins the Heisman and becomes the first U. Hawai'i player, Warrior or
Rainbow to be the first draft pick in the NFL!" Moose Salzer

Hawaii Warriors update! Sirius Radio!" Moose Salzer
Hawai'i Warriors QB Colt Brennan could be a Heisman Candidate. Hawai'i was
previously ranked #24, but I think they could be number #20 before the BCS Bowl
season gets too far gone.
Gabriel Morency the host of Sports Rage on Sirius Satellite radio and I reasoned
that former Hawai'i Coach Dick Tomey could have trouble with the schedule as
well with the San Jose St Spartans, they start with four road games in a row.
Hawai'i will look to finally get past Boise St, now that they don't have
QB-Hawai'i-killer Jared Zabransky (now with the Oakland Raidahs) in the lineup.
One thing that has kept Hawai'i out of bigger Bowl games
is the one thing June Jones hasn't done, yet, in his nine seasons with the
Warriors - win the WAC! Its' coming this year and I don't care about what
happens with the schedule. As Webb Wilder says, 'The rest will take care of
itself'. In PCBL News, the Sioux Falls Canaries won over Saint Paul last night
with me in attendance, 3-1. A great time here." Moose Salzer

record Six Hawai'i Warriors taken in '07 NFL Draft! Jack Bicknell Tribute!"
Moose Salzer
The following six Hawai'i Warriors Kane Football Players were taken in the
2007 NFL Draft this past weekend:
RB - Nate Ilaoa, our Virginia State h.s. Prep player of the year in 2000, by the
Philadelphia Eagles.
RB - Regan Mauia, who mat move to FB by the Miami Dolphins.
DE - Mel Purcell, III, by the Cleveland Browns.
OL - Sam Satele, who started 53 of 57 games in his four years at Hawai'i by the
Miami Dolphins.
DE/TE - Ikaika Alama-Francis, son of former NFL'r Russ Francis, by the Detroit
Lions, and:
DL - C.J. Ah You, son of ex-CFL/USFL Defencive Lineman Junior Ah You, the first
player from Hawai'i to be inducted into the CFL Hall-of-Fame, by Buffalo. Junior
Ah You played ten years for the Montreal Alouettes, one for Toronto and three in
the USFL for Arizona, New Orlean and Portland.
Jack Bicknell
Tribute. H. Coach Jack Bicknell,
70 the former Boston College has retired. Some of the stars he coached included
Bill Romanowski, Doug and Darren Flutie. He retired before his 15th NFL Europa
League season due to a bronchial infection he has been fighting since late Feb.
Bicknell is recovering fine but did not want to impede the Hamburg Sea Dragons
season and was replaced by 30 year Assistant Vince Martino. Martino and Bicknell
met at the University of Maine Black Bears camp 30 years ago. Bicknell the
Defencive genius and Martino his Offencive counterpart. They moved six years
later to the Boston College Eagles, one of the worst teams in the NCAAs.
Bicknell got the Flutie's, Romanowski in the early '80's and turned them into a
powerhouse, puntated by the Flutie 64-yd., 'Hail Mary' bomb to Miami (FL)
University, 47-45 in Nov. 1984.
Coach 'Cowboy' Jack left the NCAA Eagles after the 1989 season and sent Darren
Flutie to the San Diego Chargers, then later to the Phoenix Cardinals. Doug
Flutie played in this period with the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots,
after a one year stint with Donald (The Apprentice) Trump's New Jersey Generals
in the USFL with RBs Maurice Carthon and Herschel Walker, making up one of the
greatest Offencive Backfields in the history of Football. Romanowski jumped
right into the lineup for the Super Bowl San Francisco 49ers, later the
Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raidahs, taking three of those
four teams to the Super Bowl. Romanowski is still the only LB in Pro Football
history to have played in five Super Bowls and in Super Bowls in three different
decades ('80's, '90's, '00's).
Bicknell won 74 games in Maine and Boston College and another 74 in a record
setting first 14 seasons of NFL E. Bicknell coached in the Euro Pros with the
Barcelona-Hamburg Dragons franchise and with the Scotland Claymores, winning two
of three NFL 'AAA' Championships. Goodbye and so long, Cowboy Jack. You were one
of the greats and originals. Jack sent more 'AAA' players to the CFL / NFL than
any other Euro league Coach. Think about this; Jack Bicknell went to 5 NFL Euro
Bowls with five different QBs: Jarious Jackson, Todd Bouman, Dave Archer, Scott
Erney and Jon Kitna." Moose

Offencive Linemen, Tala Esera, projected as a Centre and Sam Satele, projected

Esera or Satele expect to be taken by Seattle or Oakland (god forbid!), Ilaoa by

Update! Coaching legend Eddie Robinson, Sr. dies at 88. A tribute!" Moose Salzer,
Grambling
St.'s Eddie Robinson, Sr., who won 408 games as NCAA Coach died last Thursday
night at 88 years old. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, four children and
eight grandchildren. As Coach of the fine Football program at Grambling St.
(Div. I-AA), Robinson helped put 412 players in Pro Football, in 55+ yrs. in
seven different football leagues (Ar.FL/CFL/NFL/NFL E/USFL/WFL/XFL). Mr.
Robinson started the Grambling St. (LA) program as a 22 year old graduate
in 1941. Except for two seasons Coaching High School football in the
1940's when the College program there was cancelled because of WWII, Grambling's
entire program was put together by Robinson.
As Director of
Football Operations, H.Coach, Offencive Coordinator, Athletic Director and Head
of Football ticket sales, Robinson oversaw all aspects of his school's Football
program. Super Bowl QB Doug Williams, who now Coaches the program was Robinson's
best player. He was the first black QB drafted in the first round of the NFL
draft and won Washington the 1987 strike-shortened year Super Bowl over favored
Denver and John Elway in late Jan. 1988, setting then three Super Bowl passing
records.
Robinson
became good friends with the late Paul 'Bear' Bryant in the latter's last years
and his program mirrored that of the University of Alabama in structure as well.
Robinson was not adverse to controversial decisions either. Twice he started
white QBs at the traditionally predominantly black school and won SWAC titles
with them. Robinson passed Bear Bryant in all-time wins in 1985. He was himself
passed in career NCAA wins by Saint Mary's of Minnesota (now Div.-III) Coach
John Giglardi (pronounced 'Gill-ar-Dee), three years ago. Giglardi, now 80, is
the second oldest Coach in NCAA history to Chowan (N.C.)'s Lou Saban, who
stepped down at 81 two years ago. There will never be another Eddie Robinson,
who was once asked his biggest accomplishment in life; His answer "Having the
same wife and job for more than fifty years." R.I.P." Moose Salzer

The 2007 NCAA Hall-of-Fame Class
has announced that Doug Flutie (21 Pro seasons), Kurt Warner, Pat Fitzgerald,
Tim Brown and Randy Cross will enter this Dec. in South Bend, Indiana's College
Football Hall of Fame.
Flutie played in four CFL Grey Cup games, winning three and was CFL Most
Outstanding Player, a record six times in eight seasons. He also played one
year, 1985 in the late USFL and 12 more seasons in the NFL. The Pro Teams Doug
played for were: The New Jersey Generals, New England Patriots, San Diego
Chargers, Chicago Bears, Calgary Stampeders, British Columbia Lions and Toronto
Argonauts. Flutie is considered by most the greatest NCAA QB of alltime.
Warner, who started his career with the Ar.FL's Iowa Barnstormers, and NFL
Europa's Amsterdam Admirals,
later won two more
M.V.Ps and played in two Super Bowls,
winning one for the Saint Louis
Rams. He currently is with the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL. He still holds most
all Northern Iowa Cyclones records.
Pat Fitzgerald played in four Super Bowls for the Dallas Cowboys and played OL/LB
at Northwestern.
Randy Cross, for many years an OLm in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, has
been an announcer for CBS. Cross played both Centre and O.Guard in football and
also played Rugby at UCLA.

In the NCAA's first Bowl game
played outside the USA since the Baccardi Bowl in Havana Cuba (not Gooding), in
1937, the Cincinnati Bearcats defeated the Western Michigan Broncos, 27-24. The
game, which was announced by ex-CFL/USFL/NFL star QB Doug Flutie, Torontan
John Saunders (ESPN's NBA/NHL) and ex-NFL/USFL player Craig James (New England's
first Super Bowl team, 1985-86), Cincinnati got out to a 24-0 lead in the first
quarter, before Dr. Paul L. Meier's Western Michigan came back strong before the
half.
There were plenty of
remincences of Saunders, who grew up in Toronto and for Doug Flutie, who
QB'd the Toronto Argonauts, the second oldest CFL team
to two Grey Cup wins in the 1996 and 1997 CFL seasons. Plenty of Doug
Flutie/CFL clips shown during the game as well. Flutie spent time with
Damon Allen this week in Toronto and it was James first trip - ever to
Canada and he loved it. Back in June of 1992, my first Pro Football
Championship Trip was to Montreal, Q.C., Canada for the second WLF NFL
'AAA' Championship game at the Big O. Montreal lost to Mike Pringle's
Barcelona Dragons, 21-17. There were nine NFL/ CFL Preseason games, with
the NFL winning 5, between 1951-63. There were six AFL-CFL preseason
games also between 1960-65.
There were 26,717 fans at the game at Rogers Centre, formerly known as Skydome.
Most were fans of the two schools. About 11,000+ were Canadian Footy fans. There
will be more NCAA games played and there is talk of the Chicago Bears playing a
preseason NFL game there next year but the opponent is not yet named. The CFL
will soon announce their 17th Commissioner in the League's 99 year history in
spring '07. Cincinnati finished it's 2006-07 NCAA season with a 9-5-0 record.
Western Michigan, playing in it's only fourth Bowl game in school history
(Saunders played there in the early 70's), finished 8-6-0.

**Tied team record for 11-3-0 mark.
**Hawai'i - Team finished with highest ranking in NCAA season, 23rd, in school

H.Coach following the 1984 season? Why none other than current Cowboys NFL Coach
Bill Parcells! Also, while Parcells was H.Coach of Football back in the 1970's
at the Air Force Academy, his buddy Jeff Popovich was H. Coach of Basketball
there. Popovich also played Basketball at Air Force. DeBerry was 6-6 in Bowl
games included in his career Football Coaching mark. Parcells in 1978 was 3-8-0
in his only year before becoming LB Coach for the Larry Csonka-less Giants. The
first player drafted by Parcells Giants? Phil Simms, QB, Morehaed St, Division
I-A, who hailed from 'Turkeyneck Bend', KY, home of CFL'r Eagle Keys!

Troy Smith became the second The Ohio St. Offencive Back

just finished his 11 year NFL career with Dallas two years ago, was
drafted by the Houston Oilers, who became the Memphis (TN) Oilers, then
the Nashville Oilers than Tennessee Titans. I personally don't think
Smith will be a long time QB in the NFL. I think he's probably headed to
being a RB at some time, but then I thought Vince Young, now with the
Tits would be a TE/WR like Matt Jones is with Jacksonville.
I think that Hawai'i's Colt Brennan should have been the choice as he
tied Dave Klingler's 54 TD passes in a single season. There could be more
to come as Hawai'i takes on Arizona St. on Dec. 24th in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl Live at midnight of Dec.24th/Melikelikimaka

best 10-3-0 right now and could set a school record with a win for an

The Nations top ranked Offence totaled a season-high 653 yards v. the Purdue
Boilermakers in Hawai'i's stunning come-from-behind win, 42-35 in Honolulu,
Oah'u, Hawai'i at Aloha Stadium. Heisman trophy candidate QB Colt Brennan nows
has an amazing 50 TDs on the season and people in Hawai'i are now saying
"Timmy who?". Colt threw for 400+ more yards and RB/SB Nate Ilaoa, our Prep.
Player of the Year here in Virginia, rushed for 100+ yards and scored two more
TDs. The deal was sealed late with CB Ryan Keomaka's INT return for 51 yards.
LCB Kenny Patton also had a crucial late INT.
A
season-high 47,825 people at Aloha Stadium saw eight different WRs including
Dylan Linkner (1-15) play his first game of the year since coming back from
injury catches Brennan's passes. The 6'3" junior QB set four Hawai'i passing
marks, or advanced three previous of his own club marks. In Hawai'i Rainbow
basketball, the Men's Warriors are now 3-0 in the Alaska Shootout Tournament.

Hawai'i is now in top 25 and 8 wins in a row! Warriors now 9-2-0! Mat McBriar
former Hawaii Warrior now staring with the NFL Cowboys MYKwebTV!" Myk Aussie
The Hawai'i Warriors averaging
42 points per game and really on a rip and are now in the top 25 NCAA teams for
the first time since 2002, when they finished at number 24 with an all-time high
10-4-0 mark.
This even included losing
two of the last three games of the season to Alabama and Tulane, in the
(then) Con-Agra Hawai'i Bowl, 36-28. Warrior QB Colt Brennan has passed
for a Hawai'i all-time record 45 TDs (in only 11 games) and thw Warriors,
who have never had a thousand yard runner in June Jones tenure, have
rushed for 1,300+
yds., to boot. Besides Brennan's 200 yards rushing (the most since Shawn
Withy-Allen's 261 to lead Hawai'i in 2002), Virginia's Nate Ilaoa has six
hundred plus and six other players combined have the other nearly six
hundred more, including two back up QBs, Inoke Funaki and QB-RB Tyler
Graunke.
The Receiving corps, which dropped at least 40+ passes last year, has
dropped only 11 so far and four of the seven WRs are Sophs! Brennan has
one year left, if he doesn't go hardship for the NFL draft and two CFL
teams are chomping at the bit as well, according to several sources.
Don't scoff; several under classmen have left early, like Maurice Clarett
should have two years ago, for the CFL in the past, if the money is
right! The Defence, lead by sixth year Lenny Peters who has been
red-shirted twice and who has experience at five positions there are
finally in tune with goofy Jerry 'Gritz Blitz/House of Pain' Glanville's
somewhat odd 3-5-3 alignment. Hawai'i has three games left and then the
Bowl - Hawai'i or BCS, to be determined..." Moose

Report! Hawai'i wins Seventh Game! Gets Invite to Hawai'i Bowl but shooting for
Higher Bowl Game + Why Colt Brennan is the Best QB Hawai'i has had under Coach
June Jones, III" Moose Salzer
The University of Hawai'i's
Offence has never played better under Coach June Jones then it has this year.
Even in the magical 10-4-0, 24th ranked season of 2002 with the Withy-Chang QB
duo for much of the year (Shawn's running - over, through and around
people/Timmy's [and occasionally Shawn's] Deep strike arm), the Warriors are on
pace to obliterate the all-time NCAA Top Scoring Points mark for a single NCAA
season. Why should anyone doubt it that June's Troops would NOT do it with a
staff of 74-yr-old Mouse Davis, his all-time best pupil Jones, Jeff Rheinbold,
Cal Lee et, al. There are Seven ex-H.Coaches (five Different Leagues) on the
Coaching roster alone. Aloha! And Mahalo!
Still, it's remarkable the flack that Jones took when he brought Brennan in last
year when he alternated three games with current backup Tyler Graunke [they
benched two fifth-yr seniors, Rhode and Akina to squeeze him into the lineup of
an Offence he didn't even know!), nobody could have predicted the quick
ascendancy of Brennan, who I dare say is the number One QB in the Nation right
now! At the throttles of the Best Offence in the country. Goodbye 5-7-0 record
of 2005, eh?
Top Ten List of Why Colt Brennan is the Best QB (Ever!) Under Coach June
Jones, III:
1) He's more mobile than any June Jones Coached Hawai'i QB [except of
course Shawn Withy-Allen!],
2) He's the most durable STARTING QB June Jones has had [Once again, no
way is bigger or strong than Shawn, but he's a clear-cut starter, not a
part-time starter (Remember Shawn/Timmy combo?)
3) He's already set the alltime Hawai'i record for TDs [39 this year - IN
ONLY NINE GAMES. It took Timmy 14 games as Senior to get 38.)
4) He took less time to learn the Run-N-'Shoot Offence; Remember Timmy
played for Coach Cal Lee at Saint Louis (as did Jason Gesser!)
5) He still has one year left, unless the NFL drafts him...
6) He still could get better - WAY BETTER!
7) He won't break ALL if Timmy Chang's records but in three years time,
he's about to break all of Shawn Withy-Allen/Nick Rolovich/Dan
Robinson/Jared Flint/Chad Kapanui/Jason Wheildon/Tyler Graunke's marks -
put together!
8) The bigger the game is, THE BIGGER HE PLAYS!
9) No fumble problems, like with Kainoa Akina, Jeffrey Rhode or INTs like
Timmy.
10) Hawai'i's best ever mark was 10-4-0 in '02, when Timmy and Shawn
alternated 7 games to get it; They are 7-2-0, 5-1-0 in the WAC WITH Colt
Brennan by himself!" Moose

Don Strock, ex-Ar.FL, now NCAA Coach of Florida Atlantic has apologized
profusely for his team's part in the 69 player scrum with the Florida (not
Greenbrier Christian) Gators last Saturday night in Florida. He even kicked the
two instigating players off his squad. Four players from each team were
suspended. Correction: I said last week that the University of Virginia was off
to it's worst start ever, but actually it's off to it's tied-for-worst start
ever. They have actually lost four games, not five. But on the filp side, the
Division I-AA Elizabeth City State University Vikings of the NAIA are off to
their best start in twenty-five years! They are 6-1-0 under Coach Waverly Tillar,
who's QB has a 15-to-1 TD to INT ratio. Way to got Vikings! Now to the

The University of Virginia Cavaliers are having their worst season ever. No ,
really...IT IS THE WORST THEY'VE EVER done to start a varsity Football season.
They have never started 0-5 before! Coach Al Groh will be lucky to keep his job
after this season. Here are two main reasons for the Cavs horrid start are (1)
Nepotism and (2) Nepotism. Daddy Groh had employed his sonny-boy (not the David
Carradine movie!) as Offencvie Coordinator this season; here is the entent of
Mike Groh's Experience: third string Pro QB on NFL 'AAA' team with Rhein Fire,
who lost NFL E Bowl to Barcelona and Jon Kitna in 1997, one year Assistant with
Daddy Al in New York with the Jets and several years on U. VA's staff as
Offencive Assistant.
Al was pressed hard by those of us in the Media when he made what turned out to
be the fateful choice of Mike as Offencive Coordinator earlier in the year. And
it has blown up in both their faces! Mike is not ready yet, Coach. The QB
merry-go-round hasn't worked either. Young rFr, Jamel Steele isn't ready to
carry water yet, let alone start over a rSr and rJr, Christian & Olsen & Co.

The University of Hawai'i finally got their Run-'N-Shoot Offence
in gear and won their first home opener in three years with a decisive
42-13 thrashing of UNLV. Virginian RB Nate Ilaoa, a sixth-yr redshirt (two
medical seasons! and our Prep Player-of the Year here in 2000) had 104 yards on
only 10 carries and scored two TDs to lead the Warriors in an all-time high 202
yds., on the ground! Nate was the Western Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week
for his performance. Here are the Warriors Offencive Main Stats through two
games:
ACC Problems - Why is Virginia in such a panick?
The University of Virginia Wahoos are all panicking about their
0-2 start but if they would just settle on one QB instead of 3 (!!), they could
turn out to have quite a good season with the soft
schedule they have. There is nothing wrong with rSr Christian Olsen! But they
keep yanking him in and out of the lineup in place of his young understudies
(Kevin McCabe, rSoph and rFr Jameel Sewell) that the
Offence can't get into a rhythm. I knew there would be trouble when Coach Al
Groh, the ex-Jets H.Coach and Bill Parcells deciple
decided to install his son Mike Groh (one year as reserve QB with the NFLE Rhein
Fire) as Offencive Coordinator. Correction: Last week I erroneously said Hawai'i

It serves me right! I go on Montreal Radio and make a fool of myself building up

converts for, eh? In other news I know Morency will get me next week on Montreal

games last weekend, Wilson at Menchville [Mike Vick's High School] and Brunswick
(Stew) Academy at Tidewater Academy), Norfolk St. and semi-New Coach Pete
Adrian, the former Chicago XFL Def. Coordinator, are looking OK after beating
Virginia State (Kelvin Kinney's old School!) by three scores.
In the ACC it looks like Virginia will surprise a lot of people and don't look
now, but Boston College will have another Flutie QBing them in a couple years -
Bobby Flutie, Doug's Nephew of his brother Rich, Jr. But back to the local
schools for a moment, Hampton University which has put 10 players in the CFL the
last few years could make noise on the local scene too. Coach Joe Taylor, in his
15th season (120-42-1) returns 8 players on Offence and 7 and the K on Defence/Special
Teams. WR Jeremy Gilchrist, a relative of THE Cookie Gilchrist has transferred
from VA Tech, where he was buried on the depth chart.
The NCAAs have shortened the games somewhat this year and there's a 5th BCS
playoff game and a new (gasp!) Instant Replay. As much as I hate Instant Replay
in the Pros, I'm sure to hate it more in the NCAA! Why does the carp always

Sat,
July 15 2006 "NCAA -
University of Hawaii Warrior Football Preview!" Moose Salzer
Coach: June Jones, III, 8th season, 53 wins, 37 losses, 2-2 in Four Bowl
games,
Offence:
QBs: Colt Brennan, rJr., Tyler Graunke, rSoph, Jack Rolovich, rJr, Inoke
Funaki, rFr, Brandon D Satcher, Jr [Dixie College re-transfer], Kiran Kepo'o,
rFr. To start the 2005 season, Graunke got two starts (losses to USC and Mich.
St.) but alternated with Junior College (one-yr.) transfer Brennan, after they
beat out vets Kainoa Akina, Jeffrey Rhode (both fifth-yr. Srs. who were moved to
Defence after the season started) and rSoph Rolovich, who didn't make the
100-man opening day roster. Brennan was clueless, basically, until game five
when he got comfortable in the 'Run-'n-Shoot' Offence [basically four WR set in
US 11-man footy]. After that, Gruanke started three other games at three (!)
other positions. Ironically, Graunke came from the same H.S. team in Arizona
that Akina did! Akina started one game at S and Rhode one at LB. They are gone.
Rolovich may not return but two yrs. ago number three (until he left in middle
of yr. for his native South Carolina), Satcher, after a yr. in run-n-shoot
@ Utah's (!) Dixie College, returns. They might need him and Funaki, if Graunke
cracks the starting lineup at another position. Brennan passed for 4,500+ yds
and 35 TDs, second only to NCAA all-time leader Timmy Chang, on U/H's career
list. Brennan, unless he turns Pro, will probably be Hawaii's all-time best, if
he plays for Jones and Hawai'i in 2007! The top Five QBs for the University of
Hawaii in the 21st Century are: (1) Chang, (2) Brennan, (3) Nick Rolovich, (4)
Shawn Withy-Allen (three yrs. in Af2), and Jason Whieldon. Rating: This area is
a strength, but nowhere near as good as when Withy-Allen and Chang alternated, 7
of last 8 games of the '02 season. Rating: B+
Running Backs: Three rSr.s, coming off medical redshirts of the last
couple yrs., Nate Illoa, from here in VA, our 2000 State Prep player of the
year, Bryan Manefaiga, and converted lineman, Reagan Mauia, 303 lbs., are the
main guys, if they get there eligibility down. Not as strong as in 2002 when
Thero Mitchell, Withy-Allen, and Sr. Josh Galeali were the top carriers,
but close. 'Super' Mario Cox, a rFr. last yr., has been moved to LB, and may
start there. Subs include: 'Farmer Dave', Dave Farmer, Jazen Anderson and Siave
Seti (another 303 lb. FB) are the newcomers who will see a midge of action.
Also: Kekoa Kama, Ahmad Po'okela, Alasi Toilolo, Peyton Ma'o and Wayne Lolotai
will probably be redshirted. Rating: B-
Wide Receivers: Jason Rivers, Jason Ferguson (inj. in game one for year
last), Dylan Linkner, Desmond Thomas, Chad Mock, Ryan-Grice Mullen, Davon
(Whoops) Bess and Mike Washington. The Starters should be: Rivers (who broke his
ankle and missed last season hitting a parked car on Alawai Blvd., on a moped,
plus was academically ineligible), Ferguson, Linkner and either Grice-Mullen,
who broke Bronco Ashley Lelie's single season pass receiving mark, or Mock, Ross
Dickerson, mainly a KR, or Bess will play most. Thomas, Dickerson, who was
behind Rivers the year before, will be the top reserves. Linkner has the best
hands here, Bess the worst. Three receivers should have over 1,000 yds., again.
If all stay healthy, this area could be the strongest on the team. No newcomers
will get much time. Rating: B.
Offencive Line: Projected starters: Srs: Dane Uperesa, Sam Satele,
Marques Kaonohi, and Tala Esera join Jr: Herc Satele up front. Kaonohi is like
his Centre protege, Derek Fa'avi, too light at 270 lbs. to be very effective in
the middle. Look for a big push from: Larry Sauafea, Jr., and rFrs: Raph Ieru,
Dave Veikune, Laupepa Letuli and Fr. Brysen Ginlak. The losses were kinda huge
(Brandon Eaton, try out with Houston Texans) but not irreplacable. If the three
main Srs: Uperesa, S. Satele and Esera stay healthy, then whoever wins the
Centre sweepstakes won't matter. Kaonnohi might be moved to DE or MLB and Ammon
Tong may move to OLm. Rating: C++
Defencive Line: Ikaika Alama-Francis, son of former San Fran./N.E. NFL'r
Russ Francis (10-yr NFL TE) came over from the basketball team several years ago
and beat out fellow former basketballer Tony Akpan for the RE job when the team
went from a 4-3 to a 3-4 (a mistake; not Francis starting but the switch to the
Jerry Glanville / Jeff Rheinbold Defencive front switch), early in the year.
Moving Kila Kamakawiwo'ole from LE to LB paid dividends down the stretch but
when the team had a chance to win several of it's last games to get to .500 on
the year, the three man front was gassed and couldn't get the job done
properly. Mel Purcell, III, Mike Lafaele, Ammon Tong, who looks to maybe move
over to Offencive Line, got plenty of playing time, at least. If Glanville hopes
to keep employing his blitzing 3-4-4 package, he must get more rotation from his
bench: Clarence Tuioti-Mariner, Kekoa Kama, Fale Laeli and Jason Laumoli. Two
separate units should be employed to keep these guys fresh. Rating: C++
Linebackers: U/H had the most injury plagued linebacker corps in the
country last year and Kamakawiwo'ole, Tanuvasa Moe and Ikaika Curnan have
graduated. Projected starters this year are: Brad Kalilimoku, unless he stays at
SS, Mario Cox, over from Offencive back, C.J. Allen-Jones (the first hyphenated
'Allen', since Shawn Withy-Allen), Khevin Peoples and Amani Purcell. The top
candidates for subs are: Rustin Saole (started 2 games a yr. ago), Timo Paepule,
Tyson Kafentzis and Solomon Elimimian, who's brother played CB here for four
years and graduated two years ago. None of the newcomers appear ready to move up
and Hawai'i, if these guys stay healthy should be one of the best units in the
NCAAs! Rating: A--
Defencive Backs: The move of Kalilimoku here, from LB and expected
redshirt medical return of Lennie Peters helps immensely. Others expected to
start are: A.J. Martinez and Ryan Keomaka split the S job last year w/ Kainoa
Akina (1 game started) and Khevin Peoples (now at LB). All are good tacklers but
suffered in the coverage Dept. when playing v. the best teams early last year
like USC and Mich. St. Reserves who will make this team but aren't expected to
push for the starters jobs, yet, include: C.J. Hawthorne, Brashton Satele, Micah
Lau, Keao Monteith (Suspended?), Desmond Thomas, who may move to WR and Kirk
Alexander. This could be a major area of concern, if Peters doesn't make it
back or Kalilimoku can't be spared from LB duty. A bit thin until some of these
guys step forward and make up for lost time and advance quickly. Rating: B--.
Kicking game: Dan Kelly played every game as Frosh starter and will again
be handling kicking duties. Jeremy Shibata is the back up, and P Kurt Milne, who
should lead the WAC this year in boots. Rating: B+.
Outlook: Rheinbold officially joined the staff in the off-season and will
'coach the LBs. He lost his job in NFL Europe last year and it was curious that
Jones took a flyer on him, unless he doesn't think he can get much more use out
of some of the old guys (Mouse Davis and Glanville) on his staff. At 49
Rheinbold should have enough left to go for awhile. The rest of the staff is
totally underrated: George Lupkin, Wes Suan, Ron & Cal Lee, et, al. All know how
Jones runs things. It appears that Jones was right to move out Rolovich, Akina
and Rhode and move in Graunke (who became the first Warrior to start in a single
season at 4 different positions: QB/RB/WR/CB) and especially Brennan, @ QB.
Brennan will probably be the first University of Hawaii QB to get a real shot at
the NFL (N.Rolovich hung around for two years, Withy-Allen continues to tear it
up in Af2 and Timmy Chang has bounced around three different NFL clubs camps the
last two years).
Jones continues to keep much local talent home and get good pickups from the JCs.
The schedule is not that difficult and they could win at least nine games, if
Brennan stays healthy and plays like he did in six of last eight games (He was
awful v. Wisconsin and USC)! The WR corps is both over and underrated at the
same time. Injuries and inconsisitency kept this unit from dominating the WAC
last year. But if the redshirt RBs can come back, they are deep on Offence, but
establishing who the backup pivot is early is vital...just in case.
I
predict a big year for the Warriors and expect four or five to be in the NFL in
the next year of so. Predicted Finish: T2nd in WAC, Hawaii Bowl winner over

From Moose "I could see Marcus (Felon) Vick’s end coming at Virginia Tech a mile
away before he stepped (not stomped on the opposing player’s leg) in the Bowl
game. Vick, who his brother Michael says is “innocent” (– with bros like that,
who needs enemies?) I think that the Virginia Tech Hokies did the right thing in
getting rid of Marcus. He was a good athlete but very inconsistent. I don’t
think he will make it in the NFL except maybe as a reserve RB or DB. Marcus Vick
also missed out on a free trip to Hawai’i with the NCAA’s footing the bill as he
could have played in the:
Hula Bowl. Update, East 10, West 7
Four University of Hawai’i players played for the losing West squad Coached by
Washington’s Tyrone Willingham; Olm; Brandon Eaton, DE-LB Kila Kamakawiwo’ole,
DB-LBs: T.J. Moe and Lono Manners. It was a bad idea by the Hula Bow Committee
to move the game back to Aloha Stadium (there couldn’t have been more than a few
thousand people there!) after the last eight years of the game on Maui @ The
Memorial Stadium.
Game Balls: DE, Jeremy Mincey, East, P, Mike Mintzer, West, QB, Brett Elliot,
East, LBs: Lono Manners & Kila Kamakawiwo’ole, Hawai’i, West. Ex-‘Hog’, Mark May
did a fine job calling the game with his mates in the booth. They had to use
tricky camera work to keep the T.V from focusing in on how few people were in
the stands. Also, why did the game have to be played on a Sat., in Jan.?" Moose

Wearing out Trojans on and off the field!" Myk
It was a unbelievable game
Wednesday night that lived up to all the hype! The star players including this
years Heisman Trophy winners Reggie Bush and last years winner Matt Leinart
both from the University of Southern California Trojans while the Texan
Longhorns out of Austin Texas had star Vince Young at QB. What a great game he
played, I was thinking he looked so much like CFL BC Lions 04 MVP Casey Printers
the way he runs and throws. Amazing finish as Vince ran in for a Touchdown with
seconds remaining. Lendale White at Running Back for the Trojans was brilliant
along with WR Dwayne Jarrett.
Kind of funny though isn't it The Longhorns vs the Condoms? I'm sure many of you
guys out there have a Trojan or 2 in your wallet prepared for "Safe sex" which
is definitely advised these days. I bet the Longhorn players will be wearing out
many Trojans of the plastic slippery kind with the Cwoa babes over the coming
weeks since their new elevated star status. Not only did they wear out the
Trojans on the field but they will be wearing them out off the field as well I
would have a guess!
Why did the Longhorns have their names on
their backs but the Trojans no names? That was kind of weird and what about the
crowd there seemed to be more Texans in the crowd than Californians or maybe we
just know Texans make more noise and are load mouths! Only joking as I like
Texas and have some great visits there especially to the Super Bowl in Houston
and I have meet many great Cwoa babes from Texas.
It was also great to be on
Austin Texas radio several weeks ago with Gregg Henson talking about this game
and the NFL and lots more crazy stuff. I tipped the Trojans on his Austin Sports radio show, Oh well.
Congratulations to the Longhorns! You check out me touching the Heisman Trophy

it’s season on a sour note, losing two of it’s final
games to close the
‘Bowl-less’ ’05 season, the first in the 21st Century without
QB
Timmy Chang on the roster,
by finally winning a home game. The Warriors went
an abysmal 1-6 @ home by
beating San Diego St., and drunk Coach Jim (Hiccup)
Harbaugh, 48-39. There is
hope for the future; thought Coach June Jones, III,
signed through the ’08
season,’s team went a very respectable 4-1 on the road
& finished a
respectable 4th in the Western Athletic Conference.
Jones
took a big gamble when he moved two fifth year senior QBs, Kainoa Akina
& Jeff Rhode to other
positions before the year began. Both got a smidge of mop
up duty (combining for 1
completion [Rhode’s 4 yard first down] in seven attempts
for 1 INT]).

started out holding USC to 10 points for the first 2/3 of the season opener
before being
blown out in the last 1/3
of the game. Things didn’t get much better, as they dug themselves a
1-4 start. They got close
to .500 with a 4-5 mark before falling apart late in the year. Jerry
Glanville’s silly 3-5-3 defence which the Warriors employed three quarters of
the year really was the
main culprit. A young
squad that didn’t suffer from a lack of Offence, but 5sr. Ilaoa (RB-SB)
missed 4 games and may
have run for 1,000, the first time a U.H. back would do that under
Jones, since he left the
San Diego Chargers to return to his Alma Mater. But Ilaoa did have a
career best 151 yards in
the final game of the season. Granuke, who played four different
positions in the season,
started 2 games at QB and Brennan, who really caught fire in seven
of the last nine games the
other 10. Rhode and Akina got one start each at other positions.
With ninety percent of the
team back next year, we in Warrior nation would have a better
team to root for next ano.
Awards:
All-WAC: LB Kila
Kamakawiwo’ole, who started the year with one game each at DT & DE
before Glanville moved him
permenantly to outside LB. He should be in the NFL or CFL
next year. WRs Davon Bess
(who still dropped 20-25 balls during the year) and Dickerson,
who replaced an
injury-prone Jason Rivers (broken ankle), have good upside. So does Tyler,
if he moves fulltime to WR
& backup Dylan Linkner, who frankly should have started.
On
Special Teams, true frosh K Dan Kelly was outstanding. Better already than
four-year
starter Justin Ayat was.
Brennan has one more year and at times looked better than Chang
in terms of not many INTs,
something that haunted Chang for 3.5 years here. But neither
he nor Graunke were better
than Shawn Withy-Allen as a running QB. Jones record now is
@: 53 wins and 37 losses.
This was only the third team in the seven that he has Coached
here at Hawai’i that
have failed to make a Bowl game. No, there will probably never be a
better Warrior team than
the 10-3 (10-4 after the Hawai’I Bowl loss to Tulane by a TD),
#24 ranked team of ’02,
with both Withy-Allen and Chang splitting the pivot job thelast
seven games. But 5-7 is almost unacceptable. Come on guys, get better!” Moose

Moose, Aussie and former Warrior Mat McBriar seems to be punting well this

Parcels so he must be doing well!. I believe I saw him do a AFL Aussie drop
punt as well on Sunday, it is the kick all us Aussie footy players use 95% of
the time and it's the style of kick that Darren Bennett shocked the NFL world
with over the past 10+ years.
Darren was amazing consistently landing his drop punt on the 3-5 year line and
making it spin back a couple of yards to give the Chargers and Vikings who he
played with a 10-15 yard advantage. Newcomers to NCAA or NFL footy if the punt
goes through the end zone then the other team starts on the 20 yard line thus

Salzer "The
University of Hawai'i came up with a final solution (no pun intended) for
the "too many QBs" problem by moving Kainoa Akina to safety and
utlizing rFR Tyler Graunke to CB
to fill in for Elimimian and Peters injuries. Akina
started at S and Graunke played his fourth different position since the
start of the year, as Hawai'i beat San Jose St., and former Coach Dick
Tomey (1977-86). Tomey is the thrid, soon to be fourth winningest Coach
in Hawai'i University Football History. Coach June Jones, is now 51-34-0
with five Bowl appearances and three wins, and is now in his 7th season
at the helm of the Warriors. QB Colt Brennan had his second strong
game with 36 completions for 457 yards on 47 attempts. He also
passed for 3 TDs in the Warriors 45-38 win over the Spartans in California.
Game
Balls to: (1) QB Brennan, (2) Kila Kamakawiwo'ole, (3) RB/SB Nate Ilaoa
[13 carries for 39 yards, 1 TD/ 6 catches for 47 more yards], (3) Graunke,
who played at the same Arizona
High School that Akina did, (4) The Offencive Line,
even Derek Fa'avi, the inconsistent Centre, and the (5) Secondary, with
Akina and Co. Lennie Peters,
Ryan Keomaka and two others reserves are out, but
the Warriors got their record to a more respectable 3-4-0. They still need to
run the table to make the
Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, Dec. 24th. A 7-5-0 mark may get
'Er done. (Fingers and toes crossed)
In
the ACC here in our area, after a week of big talk from a big Maryland Coach
Ralph Freidgen, former San Diego
Chargers Offencive Coordinator, when June Jones
was there as Coach, Maryland played Virginia Tech close - for about one-third
of the game - but guys, getting into the red zone four times in the first
three quarters and only
coming up 3 points definitely lead to the 28-9 loss to (I still think)
overrated Hokies. The VA Tech 'O' sputtered enough with Marcus (Felon) Vick
throwing three picks for Maryland's high-powered, No. 4 ranked 'O' to have
at least tried one fourth down
convert! Sheesh, going for FGs v. the Hokies is
a sure-fire way to lose!
In

Conference: Hawai’i wins big as Colt Brennan ties two of Nick Rolovich records
The main storyline in the Warriors 49-28 win over Joe Pisarcik’s old scholl is
that QB Brennan tied two school records, both held by current Warrior Jack
Rolovich older brother, Nick Rolovich; 7 TD passes and 515 yards in a game two
WRs (Grice-Mullen and Mock) had over 100 yards apiece and scored two TDs apiece.
An area of concern should be at FB where starter Nate Ilaoa, from here in
Virginia, got hurt, aggravating a knee that bothered him earlier in the year. He
was capably filled in for by rFr Dave (Farmer Dave) Farmer, from California.
Once again, Kila
Kamakawiwo’ole dominated playing all over the field like a young Jared Allen.
His move
back to LB from first
DT (game 1) and DE (games 2-4) has been the best thing that new Defensive
Coordinator Jerry Glanville has done this season. Another bright spot has been
the play of true frosh K, Dan Kelly. He replaced a pretty good four-year starter
in Justin Ayat. Hawai’i will have to really hustle to get to that Sheraton
Hawai’i Bowl game. Coach June Jones won his 50thgame in his NCAA Coaching career. His record now stands at: 50-34-0.
