It's on again Canada to play the USA in the Final today!

From NFL Media Canada will defend the NFL Global Junior Championship title that has resided north of the border the past two years when the 11th annual Super Bowl event finale is played at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, February 3 at 3:00 P.M. A familiar foe stands between the Canadians and a third successive crown. Team USA, representing the South Florida high schools of Broward and Miami-Dade counties under head coach Mark Guandolo, hope to wrestle the championship from Canada's grasp.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year JASON TAYLOR will perform the coin toss and former Dallas Cowboys and University of Miami Pro Bowl running back EMMITT SMITH will join Taylor in game festivities.

Both teams went undefeated in first-round action on Wednesday. Canada defeated France 14-0 and then produced a narrow 7-0 victory over a spirited Japan team.

Team USA topped Panama 27-0. Then they beat Mexico, who had defeated Panama 6-0.

Coach Guandolo said of opponent Canada: "They're well coached and they've been together for a while and I expect another great game. They're big and physical and we'll have to use our speed.  We have played with intensity and emotion and come together to play hard for each other." Japan and Mexico will contest third place at 11:30 A.M. Saturday in a repeat of last year's match up.

Danny Maciocia the current reigning Grey Cup Coach from the Edmonton Eskimos again led Team Canada to a win. Great news also was that Gabriel Morency from The Team 990 in Montreal was there broadcasting the final Live on the Team 990 Montreal and Internet radio.

One of my favorite events that I have web sportscast is the NFL Global Junior Championships that have been played until this year during the Super Bowl week. This year the event was held a week earlier and on Sunday the final will again be played between Canada and the USA. Canada are the reigning champions after defeating the USA last year in Jacksonville. The previous 2 years that I reported on this event the USA won. The final is to be to be played in Detroit the home of next weeks Super Bowl XL at the Pontiac Silverdome at 1pm EST on Sunday.

For newcomers to this section, obviously the USA would win this event easily every year if the side was picked from the entire USA. This year Team USA was selected from 11 counties in Northwest Ohio. The previous years the team was selected from counties near to the the city that hosts the Super Bowl. In the 3 years that I attended team Canada was made up of mainly Eastern Canadian players. I am Pro Canada each year in this event, mainly filming from the Canadian sidelines and meeting and interviewing many of the Canadian players and officials. I have also meet many great players, officials and fans from all the countries that compete in this event.

European youngsters book tickets to Japan;Holland's Arcus Knights win European School Final

ARCUS KNIGHTS, of the Netherlands, were crowned flag football champions of
Europe ahead of World Bowl XI in Scotland at the weekend after winning the
European School Final.

The 12 to 14-year-old boys and girls booked their place in the NFL Flag
Football World Championship being held in Tokyo, Japan, this summer from
July 31 to August 2.

Joining the Dutch youngsters in Japan will be Austria's SHS Air Force Graz
and IES Pere Vives, of Spain.

The Netherlands emerged victorious at Glasgow's Holyrood High School as they
defeated the Austrian team 58-27 in the final. Spain's IES Pere Vives booked
the final spot on the plane to Japan as they won the third/fourth place
playoff with Germany's Neuss Fire Wolves 34-26.

Netherland's head coach ERIK HAGEN said: "We trained hard for this since
October and I am very proud of my team. We are excited to represent Europe
during the NFL Flag Football World Championship in Japan, but first we will
celebrate our victory in Scotland."

Austria head coach BERNIE MANDEL added: "The Netherlands were the dominating
team of the tournament - they were unbeatable. But we are very pleased with
our performance and looking forward to the trip of a lifetime to Japan."

Spain's PEDRO VALIVIESO FERRANDIZ concluded: "I am very pleased with the
outcome and we will be glad to represent Europe in Japan."

The hometown Carluke Predators, of Scotland, finished fifth in the
tournament behind Germany and ended their day with a thrilling 54-53 victory
over Finland that was decided on the game's final play.

Denmark's Laessoesgades School from Aarhus ranked sixth, with A.S. Flag of
Paris, France, finishing seventh. Finland's Kastelli School ended the day
winless in eighth place.

The three European teams heading to Japan will take on the best young flag
football players in the world from USA, Canada, Japan, Thailand, Mexico,
Korea and Australia.

Note to editors: Flag football is the NFL's core international grassroots
programme involving more than one million boys and girls ages 8 to 14. NFL
Flag Football helps children learn the basics of the sport of American
football and is played in more than 20 countries around the world,
including: Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France,
Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand,
Scotland, Spain, Sweden, USA and Thailand.

On Saturday, January 25th the U S aged 16-19 high school team defeated Canada,
28-21 in OT for the NFL sponsored game between teams from the U S, Canada, Europe, Mexico & Japan. Media from the following organizations attended: Pro Football Information Library, Germany's Huddle magazine, Mexico's Frontera newspaper, S r. Photo.com, NFL E p.r., Japan's Pro Touchdown magazine, SuperBowlTimes.com. During the Wed. preliminary round(s) each of the five teams played each other in 14 minute, 7 minute half games. The top four teams played again Sat., Jan. 25th with the first of the 48 minute games between Europe, who lost 10-5, to Mexico.  

A special thanks to our man from Mexico, Jorge from chanel 12 who filmed Myk & adverted mykaussie.com on mexican sports T.V.  Also Holger & Wolfgang of Germany's Huddle magazine who pictured Moose for an upcoming article in their coverage of the 37th Super Bowl weekend. Wolfgang will be here in Honolulu for the Pro Bowl & during the NFL AAA Euro season he covers the Frankfurt Galaxy, who have Darren Bennett's mate Vern Hippler @ TE/KS.  On Wed. the highlight was the U S / Canada showdown,
which resulted in a double OT shootout which the U S won 29-23. On a controversial call in which Canada's outstanding WR/KR Matt LeBlanc's foot touched the white sideline stripe on 4th down the canuck 16-19 yr. olds lost the exciting game. 

On Sat. the U S & Canada hooked-up again @ 3:37 w/ Darren Bennett doing the coin toss for the opening kickoff. Canada won the toss but deferred to the kickoff to the U S so they could receive ther second half kickoff. With 2nd string US QB Rich Kovelcheck filling in for injured starter Rick Coppack, who broke his thumb on the last offensive play for U S on Wed. in the double OT win v. the canucks. The U S took the opening kickoff & marched 77 yds. in 9 plays for a quick 7-0 lead. Lead by the outside rushing of Brandon Bournes, the U S outgained Team Canada 297-268 yds. Bournes was interviewed by Myk & I & was our game MVP, following the Team Canada did an outstanding job in playing the U S team to two OT's during Super Bowl week in San Diego. 

Coach Ian E. Breck & his fine staff have been teaching Team Canada the U S RULES for 7 seasons now. The teams best player is definately WR/KR Matt LeBlanc from Montreal's Spartiates Vieux High School.
Myk & I interviewed Matt twice during the week & I expect we will see him in the CFL in several yrs. Team Canada's honorary Football Chairman in '03 was Edmonton Eskimo Offensive Coordinator Danny Maciocia.  The National Football Federation of Canada is the governing body over half of the Canadian High Schools & Junior Colleges. In this tournement only 16-19 yr. olds are eligible to participate.  QB Michael Faulds attends Valley Forge Junior College & L Vincent Metcalf attends

Taft also in the U S. We look forward to these players in the NCAAs in the next several yrs. Players on Team Canada come from 5 different Provinces in the great white North. They are Quebec, Alberta, New Brunswick, Manitoba & Ontario.  Team Canada draws it's sponsorship from the CFL & NFL Int'l. In our interview w/ Darren Bennett, there was some discussion of creating a sixth team made up of players from Australia, once the sport gets bigger.     Moose Salzer
