2003...NBC moves Arena Football, a staple of Cable T.V. to primetime as they purchase a 49.9% investment of the Indoor League, showing the games live on T.V. on Sun. afternoons.

2002...The Canadian Football League's ninth team the Ottawa Renegades play their 1st season...The NFL's 32nd team, the Houston Texans play their 1st season.

2001...NBC & WWE fail w/ their one season investment called the XFL... The league looses close to $70 million$ & folds after one season...The Los Angeles Extreme win the only 'Million Dollar Game' Championship beating Joe Paopao's San Francisco Rage

2000...The Arena Football League starts a secondary developmental league called Arenafootball2 w/ 15 AAA teams...This league grows to 32 teams in two yrs.

1996...The Canadian Football League removes it's five teams from the US...It's most successful team, the Grey Cup Champion Baltimore Stallions move to Montreal & become the new Alouettes...The Baltimore Ravens become the NFL's 31st team & play their 1st season...The CFL's
Ottawa Rough Riders cease operations after the '96 CFL season.

1995...The NFL announces that Cleveland owner Art Modell will give up the Browns to league control (they would resume play w/ a new owner in 1999) & will start a new team in Baltimore in '96...The Baltimore Stallions become the only American team that will ever win the CFL's
Grey Cup...The CFL added new teams in Birmingham & Memphis during this season...The Carolina Panthers & Jacksonville Jaguars become the 29th & 30th teams in the NFL...The NFL's (aaa) developmental league, NFL E (formerly the WL) restarts operations w/ 6 Europe based teams.

1994...The Baltimore Stallions become the 1st American team to play in the CFL Championship Grey Cup game but fall to the B.C. Lions on Lui Passaglia's last second kick...Baltimore, Shreveport & Las Vegas join the CFL. "Mooses team" Myk

1993...The Canadian Football League places it's 1st team in the US, the Sacramento Gold Miners.

1992...The NFL pulls the plug on the stuggling WL & announces it may return in 1995 as an all Europe developmental league.

1991...The NFL starts it's developmental World League...It's Championship game is called the World Bowl after the Championship of the deceased World Football League(WFL) of 1974'75.

1987...The Arena Football League begins play w/ 4 teams on June 19th... In the NFL season the union players strike for the 3rd time in 13 yrs... The NFL season is one game short-in the other three games, the league uses non-union players...The Canadian Football League increases it's
schedule to 18 regular season games...the Montreal Alouettes fold after 48 seasons of operations.

1986...The NFL loses it's court case filed by the United States Football League, as it is proven that the NFL's Commissioner Alvin H. 'Pete' Rozelle has conspired to lock up all the T.V. networks to monopolize Pro Football in the U.S...The judge only awards the USFL $3. in damages & the league folds the next day releasing it's players as free agents.

1983...The United States Football League kicks off it's inaugural season on Mar. 1st.

1982...The NFL players go on strike in Oct., which lasts 57 days.

1981...James Foster of the NFL's Promotions Dept. thinks up the Ar.FL game system while he watches the Major League Indoor Soccer League's All-star game in New York's Madison Square Garden.

1980...The NFL moves it's Pro Bowl all-star game from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Hi.

1978...The NFL increases it's schedule to 16 regular season games.

1976...The NFL increases it's league to 28 teams w/ the new Seattle Seahawks & Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

1975...The World Football League(WFL) ceases operations 12 games into it's 2nd season on Oct. 22.

1974...The NFL players go on strike for training camp & the Preseason - the 1st NFL player strike...The World Football League begina play in June...This season the NFL moves the goal posts to the back of the end zone.

1970...The NFL adopts a 14 game schedule like the Canadian Football League & the American Football League, which it absorbed into the AFC had...Super Bowl games are now following the Championship games of the AFC & NFC.

1969...The Kansas City Chiefs become the 2nd straight AFL team to win a Super Bowl game over the older NFL.

1968...The New York Jets become the 1st AFL team to beat the NFL in a Super Bowl Championship game.

1966...Al Davis, of Oakland ostensibly sells out the AFL by merging it w/ the NFL under the AFC Conference title, when the league completes it's merger in 1970...The title of 'Super Bowl' becomes the NFL v. AFL Championship game title.

1960...Formulated a yr. earlier, the American Football League begins play in eight cities using the CFL style two point conv(s) & 14 game schedule.

1958...The Canadian Football Council* changes it's name for good to The Canadian Football League...The CFL adopts a 14 game schedule.

1950...The NFL absorbs the All-American Football Conference (AAFC) league...It keeps only the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers & merges the Los Angeles Dons w/ the Cleveland Rams.

1946...The All-American Football Conference (AAFC) begins play in 7 non-NFL cities...One of it's stars is Hawai'ian Herman Wedemeyer, a RB/KR w/ the Dons...Wedemeyer would later be a stat on the popular Hawai'i 5-0 T.V. show (1968-80).

1945...The Western Interprovincial Football Union & the Ontario Rugby Football Union {WIFU / ORFU} merge & become the CFC*.

1931...The Candian Football league(s) now allow forward passing.

1929...Each Canadian team now will allow 'Imports', players born outside Canada to work in Canadian football...Up to 5 Americans are allowed by each club to suit up & play per game.

1922..The American Professional Football Association (APFA) & National Football Association (NFA) merge & become the NFL.

1920...Two union Pro leagues begin play in the United States using 11 men on each side of the line, the 'Yale Rules', established 1906 in U.S...Their names are: APFA & NFA.

1914...The Canadian Football league(s) reduce the number of players from each side from 14 to 12.

1909...The seventh governor-general of Canada George Albert Earl Grey donates his trophy to the winner of the Dominion Rugby-Football Champion of Canada, thus beginning Pro Football in Nth America in '09.
