The Indianapolis Colts to defeat the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl is my pick but only just now with the reported seriuos ankle injury to star Colts Defensive End Dwight Freeney!
For coming 4th in Nasty Nate’s amazing NFL Football tipping contest I selected the Saints. Refer below for the years tips and details on this great NFL tipping contest. The Colts, Chargers and Vikings were taken by the top 3 guys in the competition. I however believe the Indianapolis Colts will win the Super Bowl in Miami.
It annoys me that Quarterbacks in the NFL get way to much publicity good and bad. That said in the case of Colts Champion Quarterback Peyton Manning I believe he will be the difference in this game. Peyton this year won his 4th MVP of the NFL. He has been one of my favorite players to watch ever since he came into the NFL. Once he retires I believe he will go down as the best Quarterback ever in the NFL. There are however NFL fans out there that knock Peyton and for that reason I hope he leads the Colts to a Super Bowl win and his 2nd Super Bowl. If the Saints defense effectively blitz's and gets to Peyton by sacking and or hurting him they could win this predicted high scoring game. If they blitz not very effectively Peyton will most likely play another great game throwing with incrediable accuracy to his offensive weapons.
I however would be all OK with the Saints winning the Super Bowl for 2 reasons. The city of New Orleans has been through so much turmoil since the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina and the Super Bowl win would give the Saints fans and the people of New Orleans some overdue happiness. The 2nd reason is I win Nasty Nates awesome NFL tipping contest and thus more money and bragging rights amongst the guys in this competition. I'm was thinking placing a bet in the range of a 14 to 21 point win by the Colts would be a good bet but now with the Colts Dwight Freeney serious ankle injury I am thinking the game could go either way. I'll stay with the Colts just, a 3-7 point margin being a good bet.

A
interview with MVP Eli Manning the Giants QB from
NFL Media! Super Bowl XLII News Conference
Phoenix
,
Arizona
– February 4, 2008
(on what traits separate this Giants team from others he has played
on in previous years) “I think we just had a great will on this team
– just a great group of guys. There was something special about this
group. We were determined and we had great faith in ourselves. We had
leaders across the board in every aspect. Everybody knew their role and
their responsibility. No matter what we’ve been through, I think
it’s helped that a lot of the players have been together for the last
three or four years. We’ve just learned to deal with adversity and
learned how to overcome mistakes, a bad play or a disappointment, and
put it behind us and forget about it. We just had total faith and
confidence that no matter what is thrown at us, we can handle it and we
can overcome it.”
(on
what it is like seeing his big completion to WR David Tyree) “I did
(see the highlight) last night. When I got home, I wanted to see it. I
hadn’t seen David Tyree’s catch. I kind of saw a little bit on the
field, but didn’t really get to appreciate what a great catch it was.
People were asking me how I got out of that jam I was in, and I really
don’t know. They were pulling me down. I felt them holding me, but I
never felt anybody pull me to the ground. I stayed alive and I saw
David in the middle of the field. I gave him a shot to make the catch,
and (it was an) unbelievable catch. For him to catch that ball – kind
of hold it against his helmet – I think he pulled back and guys
(were) swiping at the ball. It’s just a great individual effort by
him.”
(on
being here after all this team has been through this season) “I think
it’s just a great tribute to this Giants team, the organization and
coaches for continuing to have faith in ourselves and in the team that
we can make a change. We can put everything that’s happened behind us
whether it’s good or bad, and just be focused on the next week.
That’s what we were able to do. We never lost our confidence. We
never lost our belief that we could make a big run. At the end of the
season, we were playing our best football. That’s what you want to be
doing. At the end of the season, you want to be at your best. We were
able to do that. We got hot at the right time going into the playoffs.
We played, really, five great games at the end of the season, the first
being against the Patriots the last game, and then the four after that
going into the playoffs. That’s what you want to be able to do.”
(on
what will stick with him about the final comeback scoring drive)
“Just everything about that drive. We had a lot of big plays. Amani
Toomer had a big third-down catch. We had a fourth-down conversion, a
fourth-and-one conversion. Steve Smith on third-and-ten. You could see
the end zone, we were getting close and we still had a lot of work. He
had a great catch on the sideline to be able to get up the field and
get the first down, and get out of bounds to stop the clock. The
offensive line was doing their job protecting, and everybody had their
part and their role. [
New England
] had been playing zone, keeping two safeties back and just playing a
little conservative through that whole drive. Finally, I knew they’d
come after us. They came out with a blitz and had one-on-one with
Plaxico Burress. That’s a match-up we’re going to take every time.
He ran a great route, got wide open and made a great catch.”
(on
how his life is different this morning than it was when he woke up
yesterday) “I’m a Super Bowl champion. That’s the difference. It
doesn’t change my attitude, my personality, or even my goals for next
season. It’s still the same. I’m happy today, I’m fired up and
I’m going to enjoy this moment. You still want to do it again. You
still want to have this feeling again. It’s hard to say that now
because you’re still enjoying it now, but you have to have the same
commitment to playing football. I’ve got to become a better
quarterback. That’s my goal. Toward the end of the season I was
playing well, but I’ve got to do it over a whole season and cut down
on my mistakes, and try to work on that this offseason.”
(on
if his parents will have another child to try to keep the Super Bowl
MVP trend in the family) “No, I don’t think so. They have some
grandkids from my oldest brother Cooper, so I think they’re putting
in their input on them.”
(on
the post-game conversation he had with his brother Peyton, last
year’s Super Bowl MVP, and what he did after the game) “Yeah, I
talked to Peyton. He came into the locker room after the game and he
was excited for me. Obviously, he knew what I was going through and
what the team was going through, having won the Super Bowl last year.
He was just fired up and said that the play to (David) Tyree will go
down as one of the great plays in NFL history. He was just excited. I
saw highlights of him jumping up when we got the touchdown throw to
Plaxico (Burress), and he was excited. Last night after the game, I had
a lot of family friends in town – a lot of high school buddies and
college buddies all made the trip out here. So (there were) a lot of
high fives, handshakes and hugs. (I had) a lot of family members in
town, so it was good to be around them and good to be around your
teammates. After the game, there’s so much chaos, so you really
don’t get to see all your coaches and all your teammates in the
locker room. So I kind of went around last night looking for everybody
and congratulating everybody on their role in winning the Super
Bowl.”
(on
how much sleep he got last night) “Not much sleep. I finally got into
my room and I had to turn on the TV and watch some of the highlights,
and watch the game again. When I finally made the commitment to get
some sleep, I just kind of sat there with my eyes wide open, replaying
plays in my head. I don’t know what I’m going on right now – just
emotions and excitement from last night.”
(on
his early-season shoulder injury) “Early in the season in the first
game against the Cowboys, I did hurt my shoulder. It was just a mild
separation. I missed practice a couple days. I knew it wasn’t that
bad. I threw on it after I hurt it in the
Dallas
game. I said, ‘Hey, just give me some days and let me do everything I
can to get this thing well.’ I didn’t want to miss a game. I want
to be out there if I can help this team, if I could help us win. I
practiced a little bit that Friday and felt I could play. Yeah, it was
sore for the next couple of weeks. During practice, any time we had a
deep throw, I couldn’t make the throw. I’d kind of say, ‘Hey, I
would have thrown it to the post,’ but I’d take the five-yard check
down. Probably after three or four weeks, it felt fine. I was able to
make all of the throws. I don’t think it affected me as the season
went on.”
(on
the possibility of playing against his brother Peyton and the Colts in
the Super Bowl) “It would be fun to be back to the Super Bowl.
That’s the way I look at it. If it happens to be against the Colts,
then that would be a fun game to be a part of. Again, it would be fun
to be back and have a shot to do this again.”
(on
head coach Tom Coughlin’s evolution this season) “I think Coach
Coughlin has always done a great job of coaching this team and getting
us well prepared. He
studies extremely hard. He
puts us in the best position every game to go out there and play our
best. I think this
year, he understood we had great leadership amongst our players.
He put faith and trust in us that the leaders, the guys on the
team, would help the young guys get focused on what we needed to do.
He’d kind of tell some of the guys in his (leadership)
council, a number of guys he would talk to, he wanted us to spread his
message to the rest of the players, where it’s not always coming from
the coach. It helps
sometimes to have your leaders talking to guys and getting messages
across. It comes over
sometimes in a better way, I think.
He understood we had a good group of guys who wanted to win and
were dedicated to this team, and he let some of those guys be
responsible for leading the younger guys and taking over.”
(on
if this team could be good for a long time) “I hope so.
I think we have a great group of guys on this team.
We’re very close, we have fun, we enjoy working hard, we enjoy
preparing and doing everything for football.
I hope we never lose that drive.
Just because you have success and you win a championship
doesn’t mean you stop for a year, or you become content with what
you’ve done. If
anything, I think it should make you strive even harder or more to try
and get here again. You’ve
had this feeling, you’ve had this taste and you don’t want it to
leave. But, we’re going to have to work even harder and better,
and that’s our goal, to become a better team.
Once we get back to working in March or April, it’s going to
be about, ‘What can you do this year?’
Last year is behind you, and we’ve celebrated for that month
or two that you have off, and now it’s back to work to see if you can
do it again.”
(on
younger quarterbacks winning the last few Super Bowls) “I figure
it’s not just based on the quarterback.
It’s based on being on a great team, having the right players
in the right situations, and coming into an organization that is
committed to winning, that’s going to get you the right players and
have the right coaches and commitment to doing everything they can do
to win. That’s what
I’ve been fortunate (to have). Our
defense has been playing outstanding.
To hold the Patriots to 14 points, they deserve so much credit.
They did a great job on them.
And then, we had a number of guys and quality, big-time players
on this team that made plays and put us in a situation to win.
The quarterback is always going to get credit for wins and
losses. That’s part of the nature.
But, it’s about the whole team coming together and winning
games.”
(on
his plans for the next two weeks) “Just try to enjoy this.
This next week, we have the parade in
New York
on Tuesday. Everybody’s
looking forward to it. I’m
sure
New York
will throw a pretty good parade for us.
After that, it’s been a long season.
Just get away and relax, recharge the body a little bit, and
take some time off to visit with friends and family.
I don’t know when we report back to start off-season training.
Coach Coughlin will have all those details.
Hopefully, we get a little break.
Definitely enjoy the moment, enjoy the off-season.
It’s a rare opportunity that you end on a high note.
Only one team gets to end with that good taste in their mouth,
after a win in the Super Bowl. So,
enjoy it, but then come back even more hungry next year.”
(on to whom, other than
himself, he would award Super Bowl MVP honors) “If I could give it to
the whole team, I would. To
win a championship, everybody has to do their role, and everybody has
to do their part. Our
entire defense and that defensive front, the way that they got after
Tom Brady and the way that they were able to get pressure on him, no
one has been able to do that all year.
The Giants’ defensive staff and the way those guys played,
they all deserve it. David
Tyree, Plaxico (Burress), Amani Toomer and Steve Smith – we had so
many guys with big plays during the game, and that’s what it takes.
You never know who is going to have that opportunity to make a
play. When the guys’
numbers were called, they made every play that was out there to be
made.”
(on
if he ever wondered if perhaps
New York
was not the right place for him) “No, I never doubted myself.
I never lost confidence. As
a quarterback, I think that’s the most important thing, that you
never lose confidence in yourself.
You’re going to go through a lot.
When you’re not playing well and when you’re losing games,
they’re going to look into everything you do and dissect it – my
demeanor or how I am on the sidelines, and my personality.
But I’m very comfortable in my own skin.
I am the way I am and I wasn’t going to change.
I love being in
New York
. I love my teammates, my
coaches and the organization.
I knew I was in the right place.
It just takes time. I
knew this is not an easy game, and this is not an easy position to
play. The longer you work
and the longer you stay committed to it, things will start happening.
Finally, we started playing good football this season.
I still want to become a better player, and that’s what I’m
going to keep working at.”

Super Bowl I. Green Bay 35 (.548) Kansas City 10 (.464). Dr John
Murray's excellent report and MPI,
Mental Performance Index.
The MPI or Mental Performance Index is the first system of scoring
developed in sports which includes in the scoring key mental factors
such as pressure management, reduction of mental errors and focused
execution. It was developed by licensed clinical and sport performance
psychologist
Dr. John F. Murray in 2002 to
show the extreme importance of mental factors in sports. It is much
more accurate than the final score and other statistics in showing how
one team performed relative to another team. It has almost perfectly
estimated the relative performance of the teams before each of the past
5 Super Bowls. Dr. Murray's MPI forecast has also beaten the official
Super Bowl spread 4 out of 5 times now. He has appeared on hundreds of
radio and television shows, and the forecast has also appeared in
hundreds of articles. Why all the focus, energy and interest in this
topic? Because it so clearly demonstrates the importance of mental
factors in sports.

Give credit where credit is due; The misnamed 'Indianapolis'
Colts found their in the Moon over soggy Miami. I still am mystified at
Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith for keeping Rex Grossman in there until
the bitter end after such a great start;
Milestones: No team in
Super Bowl history either even; started a Super Bowl with a Kick return
TD (Devin Hester's 7th of the season, total, an NFL record) or with a
faster score. The Colts who were last in the NFL (32ND), set an NFL
record by winning a Super Bowl with one of the worst Special Teams
units to ever play in the game!. With 0:06 gone, Chicago up 7-0.
Colts Ricky Proehl
ended his 17-yr career with another Super Bowl win. I'll give Peyton
Manning and Coach Dungy Credit too. Colts are NFL Champions. Game

Bowl XLI Preview: Indianapolis Colts (15-4-0) v. Chicago Bears
(15-3-0), Miami, Pro Player Stadium, First Sunday of Feb., 2007:
Rex Grossman and his
troubled counterpart across in the other locker-room can now relax -
for now. But at game time one of these pivots will lose big-time in
XLI. Grossman, Manning, former Bear Jim McMahon, David Woodley, Ben
Roelithsberger are probably the worst QBs to ever play in Super Bowl
games and some of these guys have actually won the NFL Championship.
Hey Troy Aikman was on three winners himself, but anybody with any
intelligence knows that Steve Beuerlein and Bernie Kosar basically won
two of those Super Bowl trophies that Jerry Jones has in his office.
But back next, next Sundays game (two weeks from now, one of two first

Bowls, Jones with Tampa Bay and Muhammad with Carolina. The Colts
counter with Super Bowl vets Brandon Stokely and Ricky Proehl (another
ex-Panther), if healthy and reliable Marvin Harrison. TE Dallas Clark
got open surprisingly easily v. New England who's Defence was just
tired. San Diego and RB LaDainian Tomlinson gave them all kinds
of headaches the week before. How the Patriots let that 21-3 lead slip
away will be debated for many months to come in Patriot-land. The
Saints had by far the best season of their star-crossed 40 year career
but how Chicago's Defence plays in this game will show everybody how
real the Bears are as a potential Championship Team. Bob Sanders, who
was dinged up in the Colts win over Pats has been a major factor in the
playoff turnaround of the Colts' Coordinator Ron Meeks Defence.
On the Chicago side,
Ron Rivera, who interviewed for several vacant Head Coaching jobs
recently, should be Assistant Coach of the Year. If the NFL doesn't
have an award for this they should make one up!
Prediction: Does Indy have enough to get by Da Bears. No Way. I really
kept waiting for the bubble to burst on the Windy City Boys, but it
appears the NFC is stronger than the AFC this year. 8-8-0 Carolina
almost made the playoffs and thye have the second best Defence in the
League to Chicago. Statistically, it should have been San Diego, but
thanks to Parker and Kaeding, Marty (New) Ball got derailed. Should
give him plenty of incentive to come back strong next year, eh,
LaDainian? This should have been San Diego v. New Orlean. We're stuck
with Chicago v. Indianapolis, which by the way is the closest
geographically that two Super Bowl Teams have ever been, as AFC-NFC
Conference Rivals in the NFL's biggest game (about 400 miles from
Chicago to Indianapolis, one state over!) Chicago Bears 28,
Indianapolis Colts 15.

Unfortunately did not make this years Super Bowl. I had a great day in Calgary watching the Super Bowl this year with many great CFL Stampeder fans. For lots of great CFL MYKwebTV which includes past
and future NFLers

It was a great day but not a great game
as the Steelers win. There has been a lot of talk on the sports radio
shows since the Big game about the very controversial refereeing
decisions including the Big Ben touchdown and the offensive
interference call on Seahawks Darryl Jackson. Either way the Steelers
won because they made the most of the opportunities. Seahawks
definitely had their chances but obvious missed field goals and some
horrid drops by Tight End Jeremy Stevens were some of the reasons that
cost them winning the game. Seahawks coach Mike Holmgrem now back in
Seattle complained today Big-time about the refereeing. Hmmm a NFL fine
will probably be coming to Mike. Maybe he was right but maybe not!
That's the way it goes.

"Super Bore XL Report – Congrats to the Pittsburgh Stealers (no, I
didn’t misspell that by accident!)" Moose
Super Bowl XL was fine for about the first third, as
Seattle lead 3-0. But the Seahawks were robbed of two TDs by bad calls
on alleged ‘Offencive pass interference calls that were so bad I don’t
think and Af2 Ref would have called them. All week ESPN (especially
ex-Bronco LB Tom Jackson) have railed that the Commissioner's Office at
Park Ave. should issue some sort of apology, et al, to the Seahawks for
the blown calls in the game. Amen to that. I have no problem with any
NFL playoff or Super Bowl Championship game when the best team wins and
certainly Pittsburgh DID get rooked on bad call v. Indianapolis. Jaws Jaworski
still says the Colts are the best team in the League – bullogna! Bill
"Ego" Cowher can have his Super Bowl ring for this Clunker. How about
the idiot Bill Leavy, the guy who gave Vinny Testeverde, a player I
really Do like that TD a few years ago and now he gives
Roethislisberger one in this game too. Unreal!" Moose

Even though I am not in
Detroit this week I have enjoyed listening to many of the great sports
radio shows including The Jim Rome Show on Calgary's The Fan 960, Sportstalk with Mark Stephen Calgary QR77
and of course SportsRage Team 990 Montreal and Internet with Gabriel
Morency.
Memories! Jim Rome kept saying all week how amazing the massive radio
row is in the Media Centre. I agree and in some ways I didn't miss not
being there that much seeing the Bronco's weren't in the Big game as I
kept thinking of the great times I have had in radio row the past 3
years during the whole of the Super Bowl week. A couple of my Super
Bowl MYKwebTV shows, show the massive Radio Rows.
From the reports below
you will see that I have tipped the Steelers to win Big over the
Seahawks even though I hope the Seahawks win! Refer to Moose, Scott
Baxter's and my argument/discussion below Jan 27 report. After the
Championship games I made my selection and decided not to be influenced
by the media talk/reports over the 2 weeks leading up to the Big game.
However a real interesting interview I heard was on QR77 with Mark
Stephen with the great CFL coach/manager Jim Barker. Jim had some very
good insight into the Steelers "erratic or somewhat concerning
preparation" up until Tuesday of this week. That made me think slightly
more towards the Seahawks but I am sticking with what I said, the
Steelers will win and I think it will be a Big win! Go Seahawks though
as I am a bit like what Mark Stephen says, "We have been forced to
watch many Seahawks games over the past 20-30 years here on the West
Coast of Canada, lots of them when the Seahawks were horrible".
Yeh I agree I've watched many Seahawks games on Fox over the past 8
years, or should I say I have watched "some of their games when I had
no CBS AFC choice" Let's hope it is a great game, Sunday 6pm Eastern
US/CDN time.

STOCKTON &
JOHNSTON TEAM UP ON SUPER BOWL XL WORLD FEED. The FOX-TV broadcast team
of DICK STOCKTON and DARYL JOHNSTON will serve as announcers for the
world feed of Super Bowl XL on Sunday, February 5, the NFL announced
today.
Stockton will be providing commentary and analysis to international
audiences for the fifth
consecutive year, while Johnston will be making his fourth appearance
on the world feed.
The broadcast will provide game and color commentary with in-depth
information on the players,
coaches and history of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks
catered to an international
audience.
"It is a pleasure to have Dick and Daryl again lend their talents to
the world feed broadcast," said
CHARLES WHITE, NFL vice president of international media. "In the past,
they have delighted our
international viewers with exciting commentary and incisive analysis of
the game."
With more than 30 years of broadcasting experience, Stockton has seen
the impact of Super Bowl
grow. "Realizing the audience ranges from Americans traveling or living
abroad to hundreds of countries fascinated by this great event makes
broadcasting the Super Bowl each year a unique and special experience,”
says Stockton.
Johnston, a former running back for the Dallas Cowboys, is no stranger
to the Super Bowl. He won
three Super Bowl rings as the starting fullback for Dallas in 1993,
1994 and 1996. The Super Bowl continues to grow in popularity around
the world. This year’s game will be broadcast to 234 countries
and territories in a record 32 languages. ABC will televise the game in
the United States.

From Moose "Myk, Did you even watch the Denver / Pittsburgh game?
Pittsburgh is the most overrated team to EVER make the Super
Bowl. Cowher is 10-and-friggin'- 9 in his career in the playoffs
and 0-1 in the Super Bowl v. a very mediocore Dallas team that
had no business winning, 27-17 back in Jan. '96! Besides four or
five players tops, Pittsburgh is playing so far over their heads,
Seattle will bring them back to earth. I guess I may have been
wrong on my choices for League M.V.P - Alexander will run all
over the Stealers. The is the worst Pittsburgh team TO EVER make
a Super Bowl. Any of Terry Bradshaw's Steelers' teams of the
'70's WOULD DESTROY either of Cowher's Super Bowl teams...Denver
laid down and got killed ! They should have went to their SEVENTH
Super Bowl, but Plummer had the worst game of his career! Get rid
of him, Mike Shanahan! If he can't beat this sorry Steelers team,
he doesn't belong playing with Elway's former team! Consalation
though this weekend, Myk. Elway's Championship Crush play on NBC
(SCHEDULED) in the Arena League season opener. Why don't the
Broncos get QB John Dutton from the Crush, and move Plummer
indoors? Pat Bolen owns 35% of them too (Elway 50.1%). Dutton is
two-and-0 IN ArenaBowls...Just mussing!" Moose
"Moose sometimes you live in the past too much! Yes of course I
watched my #1 team the Bronco's get beaten by the Steelers! I
don't give a rats fanny about Cowher's past record, they have
beaten 3 very good AFC teams to make it and they deserved it.
What about Plummer in the 2nd 1/2 he was very good. American
sports people piss me off when they always blame the QB. What
about Denver's 2ndry, they were horrid. Steelers WR caught
everything. How is that Plummer's fault. I hope I am wrong as I
don't really like the Steelers that much, it's the Black and
Yellow Aussie Footy Gawler Central Tigers thing. Seattle is like
a 2nd home in many ways living in Vancouver. We will wait and
see. I very rarely ever bet on footy but I'm going to put $$$ on
the Steelers as I firmly believe AFC teams have been way better
than NFC teams all year.
Did you see Bill Romanowski and his wife on Big Idea Donny show with Donny Deutsch
on Tuesday night. Great interview. I'm buying his book for sure.
He wouldn't even tell anyone when he had concussion. You guys know more than
me about the NFL but I'm sticking with a Steelers win by a lot
but like I said I hope I am wrong!" Myk Aussie
Now lets get another opinion from
Scott Baxter "Myk, I will take Pittsburgh in this game.
Something like 23-17. I don't believe it will be a blowout because
Seattle's defense is vastly underrated and fast. Seattle has
a good secondary, but it was hard to tell since both the Skins and
the Panthers each have limited options at receiver. Seattle lead
the NFL in sacks, but no one had double digits in sacks. They do
pressure the QB, but that might lead into Big Ben's hands since he
can throw well on the run. The problem is that the Steelers have
various options at receiver like Hines Ward, Randle El, Cedric
Wilson as the deep threat, and UVA tight end Heath Miller finding
dead spots in the zone. Seattle will do a fairly good job stopping
the run, but the secondary WILL be tested."
Scott
From Scott Baxter "Super Bowl XL
Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (-4 to -4.5)
Advantages:
Quarterback: Reason: Ben Rothleisberger is the second youngest
quarterback to start a Super Bowl. He has a 25-5 record as a starter.
Usually in the Pittsburgh offense he was more of a game manager, or
"just don't lose this game" type of quarterback. In this year's
playoffs, Big Ben has been allowed by Cowher and offensive
coordinator Ken Wisenhunt more freedom to make plays, and
Rothleisberger has blossomed into a top flight quarterback. Big Ben
is very accurate, especially when he moves out of the pocket.
Matt Hasselback, while making a
couple questionable throws, helped win the game against the Redskins
with his leadership when NFL rushing lead and MVP, Shaun Alexander,
left early in the game with a concussion. In the Carolina game, he
was flawless. Excellent game. Hasselback has made some strides this
year. He threw 24 TD's this year and only 9 INT's. However,
Hasselback has been known to improvise at times during a play (some
would call it a "gunslinger" mentality), and can force the ball from
time to time. He should have been intercepted at least twice in the
Redskins game, one of which would have been returned for a touchdown
by Carlos Rodgers. Saying that, being in the Mike Holmgren offense
for six years (one with Green Bay and the last five in Seattle),
Hasselback makes very good audibles at the line of scrimmage. The key
36 yard run by Mack Strong late in the Skins game was a check-off at
line by Hasselback
Accuracy: even
Arm strength: Rothleisberger - Especially on the 20-25 yard out
patterns.
Scrambling or running ability: Hasselback - He is more likely to
run for a 1st down or extra yardage than Big Ben...However,
Throwing on the run: Rothleisberger - Excellent in this aspect. About
half the outside the pocket throws are designed.
Audibles: Hasselback, by being in Mike Holmgren's system for 6 years,
has really done well with changing plays at the line. This year's
playoffs highlighted this strength Holmgren has about 30-40 audible
plays for Hasselback to use before the play. Big Ben, by being only
in his 2nd year, rarely calls a different play at the line (However,
I believe that he gets older, he will be given a lot more autonomy on
the offense. You can see him growing during the playoffs.).
More likely to force a play (i.e. make
a crucial INT): Hasselback - see above comments. Big Ben is more
likely to take what the defense gives him.
Leadership: Even
Advantage: Rothleisberger - He doesn't force the issue quite as much
as Hasselback.
The offense coming." Scott

From Moose "Well, I believe I will be right after being wrong last
week. First Congrats to my buddy Scott Baxter and also to Seattle for
making their first Super Bowl (they came in the League in 1976 with
Tampa Bay), and Pittsburgh, who is in way over their aging
heads...Anybody that thinks that Seattle could've beaten Carolina, if
the Panthers had a healthy, say, Steve Davis, DeShaun Foster, Rod 'He
Hate Me' Smart (he did 'dress out' & play the last two games -
sparingly!), Kris Jenkins, Mark Fields, et, al is Dreamin', like the
old Vanessa Williams song! Carolina would have trounced the S'Hawks and
cake walked away with THEIR first Super Bowl. But Jake Delhomme was
rushed many times and WHY DAN Henning, Sr., did you wait so long to
make Steve Smith the 'go-to-guy'? As an aside, I do believe that Ricky
Proehl, the greatest 3rd WR in Pro Football history will be back.
Fields and Davis are questionable though. Denver's 'performance', if
one can call it that, is the worst in AFC Championship history, unless
one wants to argue for Da Raidahs getting smashed by Buffalo, 51-3 with
Marv Levy completely out coaching Art Shell, who was a pretty darn good
Coach with Oakland.
If I am Coach Mike Shanahan, cut your losses now and dump 'that other
Jake', the Plumber! [no I didn't misspell that by accident!] Plummer
absolutely played the worst game of his career, after playing his
best career game, against a vastly superior team, New England(, than
Pittsburgh) Pats and a much better QB, Tom Brady. I swear, in all my
years of watching NFC & AFC Championships, I have never seen a
HOME TEAM (& this team, the Broncos should have been in their SEVENTH
Super Bowl!) play any worse! Sure, it's not all Jake's fault. But
I would still trade him to, say, San Diego for either Drew Brees
(depending how he makes out in his shoulder surgery) or talented Phil
Rivers. There's always, maybe Brad Johnson [don't laugh - he's 1-0 in
the Super Bowl], who said he doesn't want to be JUST a backup (again)
in Minnesota - to Culpepper or anybody else. Pittsburgh is simply
overrated and their Coach Bill Cowher is no Offencive Coach. He's also
10-9 in playoff games. How do you think he will stack up v. a genius
like Seattle's Mike Holmgren? Holmgren is 1-1 in Super Bowls and guns
for being the first Coach to win Super Bowls with two different teams -
one in the NFC & one in the AFC.
Teams announce new Coaches: Gary
Kubiak to Coach Texans and Dick Jauron to Coach Buffalo. Both good
moves. Now if only Detroit and two other clubs had made good hires...
A rock was throw through the
Indianapolis home front window of NFL referee Pete Morelli, one of
the NFL's worst officials. He was the guy who took Troy 'Mad Dog'
Polamalu's INT away in the NFL AFC Divisional Playoff game and tried
to give his hometown Colts a win and bail out always underachieving
in the Playoffs Peyton Manning. Morelli says it's because he's a
Principal in a school in the offseason. Sure, Pete.
Moose's Super Bowl XL Preview:
Advantages: Offence: Seattle
Passing: Seattle Rushing: Pittsburgh Receiving: Seattle (bring in
Seneca Wallace!) Offencive Line: Seattle (the best in the business, now
that Carolina is gone!) Defence: Pittsburgh (by the length of Troy
Polamalu's hair!) Def. Line: Pittsburgh (this'll come down to Kimo Von
Oelhoffen v. Grant Wistrom) Linebackers: Seattle [Lofa Tatupu, son of
former New England FB/ST Super Bowl'r, Mosi Tatupu] Defencive Backs:
Seattle by a good bit, but Polamalu could still get Super Bowl M.V.P.
even with Pittsburgh's impending loss - which could be huge!
Intangibles: Pittsburgh
Special Teams: Seattle Kicking: Pittsburgh Punting / Holding: Seattle
Returns: Pittsburgh (Antwann Randall El, of course) Coverage: Seattle's
Kaczavenski and Kouvides by a mile! Coaching: Seattle's staff by a good
bit.
Overall: Seattle by a pretty good bit. Special Teams and Offence beats
Defence like 2 out of 3 beats kinds beats a Flush! Outlook: There are a
lot of good players on the Steelers: Polamalu, Von Oelhoffen,
Roethlisberger, Kreider, three good to very good RBs, but no great ones
like The S'Hawks Alexander, who I still think was NOT better for his
team than the G-men's Tiki Barber and San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson.
The WRs are all Seattle, give a slight edge to Heath Miller (Univ. of
Virginia) @ TE, and depth to Seattle. First Super Bowl with two german-American
kids @ QB for both teams - Joe Gibbs'll hate that! Hasselbeck, who was
trained by Jeff George, Brett Favre, Doug Pederson, Brock Huard and of
course Trent Dilfer, learned much from all of 'Em! Hasselbeck is on a
roll and won't be stopped now. Pittsburgh has been playing over their
heads for seven weeks now and will be body-slammed back to earth.
Seattle will score early and often and may break several records.
Expect Alexander to have 100 yards by halftime! All Hasselbeck has to
do is not throw any INTs, or fumble (are you listening Peyton & Eli
Manning?)
My Pick: Seattle 33,Pittsburgh 17. It's an NFC kinda year!" Moose
"Moose you're tipping Seahawks,
that's weird? The Colts and Bronco's were better then the Seahawks and
they couldn't beat the Steelers! I hope I'm wrong but I will be very
surprised if the Seahawks even get close in the Super Bowl. Steelers
have outplayed and out coached the 3 AFC teams brilliantly in the
playoffs!" Myk Aussie

STUDENTS FROM FLORIDA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND THE BLIND TO ACCOMPANY KEYS
Grammy-Award
winning ALICIA KEYS will sing "America the Beautiful" prior to Super
Bowl XXXIX at ALLTEL Stadium, Sunday, Feb. 6, the NFL announced today. Keys’
performance will mark only the third time in Super Bowl history the song has
been sung.
Keys,
who has earned five Grammys and is nominated for eight more this year, joins
VICKI CARR (Super Bowl XI) and Jacksonville’s legendary RAY CHARLES (Super
Bowl XXXV) as the only artists to perform the song at the Super Bowl. She will
be accompanied by 150 students from St. Augustine-based Florida School for the
Deaf and the Blind, which Charles first attended as a youth in 1937. The
students will sign and sing along with Keys.
Super
Bowl XXXIX will be televised by FOX to a potential worldwide audience of 1
billion viewers. Watched by a record 144.4 million viewers in the U.S. last
year, the Super Bowl is annually the nation’s highest-rated TV program and the
most-watched single-day sporting event.
"I'm
very excited to be playing at the Super Bowl for the first time especially
because I will be singing a song made famous by an artist I admire, miss and
respect, Ray Charles, along with the Florida School for the Deaf and the
Blind," said Keys. "I know that this is going to be very touching and
memorable moment."
Keys,
whose recent album The Diary of Alicia Keys has sold more than six million
copies, was nominated last month for eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the
Year and Song of the Year for "If I Ain't Got You." She won five
Grammy Awards in 2001, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Best
Female R&B Vocal Performer.
Keys
will hit the road in a newly announced "Diary Tour" of 34 U.S.cities.
She will kick off her theater tour in South Carolina on February 25.
In
addition to producing the AMERIQUEST MORTGAGE SUPER BOWL XXXIX HALFTIME SHOW
featuring PAUL McCARTNEY, Emmy-Award winning Don Mischer Productions will
produce the pregame show.
This
year, the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is celebrating 120 years of
successfully developing a child’s potential. With a current enrollment of 750
students K through 12, it provides outreach services to an additional 116
infants and pre-K children throughout Florida. The school provides free
education and services to eligible hearing and visually impaired children in the
state of Florida.

From
Arif Imran Kant, Cricket webWORLD reporter.
"Myk
Aussie & mates during the Super Bowl, there was another football game of
note between the big animals and the small animals. The big animals were
crushing
small animals and at half-time, the coach made a passionate speech to rally
the little animals.
At the start of the second half the big animals had the ball. The first
play, the elephant got stopped for no gain. The second play, the rhino was
stopped for no gain. On third down, the hippo was thrown for a 5 yard loss.
The defense huddled around the coach and he asked excitedly, "Who
stopped the elephant?"
"I did," said the centipede.
"Who stopped the rhino?"
"Uh, that was me too," said the centipede.
"And how about the hippo? Who hit him for a 5 yard loss?"
"Well, that was me as well," said the centipede.
"So where were you during the first half?" demanded the coach.
"Well," said the centipede, "I was putting on my shoes."
Thanks
for that funny story Arif." Myk Aussie

Subject: Super Bowl week
@ San Diego Date: Tue, 28 Jan 2003 15:21:47 -0500
By: Moose Salzer
Myk Aussie.com & Mates Super Bowl week actually started 1 1/2 weeks before w/ Moose Salzer's trip to
L.A. I got a chance to see my beloved Clippers (w/out Big John Parella's Univ.
of Nebraska classmate, Eric Piatkowski in the lineup) beat both the crosstown
Lakers & the Kings (sorry Shaq, no queens here). I sat in a great Jack (Schmidt) Nicholson seat & saw Billy Crystal, Penny Marshal & King's
owners the Maloof Bros. The comeback win over Kings, 112-107 was as big a
highlight as the 'Battle of LA'. I met a great couple named Steve & Chrissy
Hyndes (no relation). I took a picture of Steve, who won a contest to shoot a
half court shot @ the end of the third quarter, & will mail them the pic when I
get it developed this week.
Myk caught up to me in
San Diego @ the Best Western Mission Bay on Sunday, Jan. 19th. Monday was recooperation day as we watched the Clips battle the hated Lakers on TNT.
The Hollywood Boys got by the Clips 96-93 as Keyon Dooling's last second three
point shot was rule not good, as he stepped on the white side line (shades of
Matt LeBlanc for team Canada later that week). Tuesday Myk & I got the Media
passes from the San Diego Conference Center where we would spend much time
during the week. The first ladies we met were the Scotland Tourism, Kristen
Crowley (any relation to Dan?) & her mate Caroline Gray. We told them we
would hopefully see them in Scotland during the week of June 6th-14th for the NFL EuroBowl XI. It's always been my dream to go to Scotland
& Australia. Maybe this yr.
Myk & I did quite
a few interviews on both Radio & T.V. this past week & especially
enjoyed the props from Fox Radio's team of Ex-Chicago Fire LB Kevin Kiley &
his mate Craig Shoemaker. But our favorite was the SuperBowlTimes.com crew of
Crazy Wayne, John, Randy & Big Scott of Kumu2 in Honolulu AM 1500. We are
hooking up on AM 1500 w/ the guys this week in Prp. for the Hula Bowl in Maui
& Pro Bowl here in Honolulu.
Special shout-outs to
