From NHL webWORLD ....It's even worse when I see the Stanley Cup being won by these cities and teams the past 3 years, Anaheim Ducks in 07, Carolina Hurricanes in 06, 05 no one now that's another Crazy story, Tampa Bay Lightning in 04. There are not that many sports fans that even care about Hockey in these cities. Good luck to the US based teams since 1993 but it's really sad that Canada has not won the Cup since 1993." Myk

The Seattle Metropolitans were the first American team to win the Stanley Cup, but the NHL was formed for the 1917-1918 season, so the S.M. won it before the NHL was born. The NHL took over control over the awarding of the Stanley Cup after the 1926 season.  The first US team in the NHL to win the Stanley Cup was the NY Rangers in 1928.
