06 "Moose's Titans 06 preview! Lots of NFL MYKwebTV!" Myk
From
Moose "Tennessee Titans, 47th season. Won one AFL title in 1963. Lost one
Super Bowl in' 00. 2005 Record: 4-12-0. Coach: Jeff Fisher. QBs: Billy
Volek, Vince Young, Matt Mauck. Other Key players: Centre Kevin Mawae
(HI)/Jets, Chris Hope, DB, Pittsburgh, LB Dave Thornton, Jarrett Payton,
MVP NFL E ('05), son of the great Walter Payton, RB Travis Henry, WR Drew
Bennett, OG Zach Piller, DLm Al Haynesworth, CB Andre Woolfolk, S Vince
Fuller, P/H 3-4QB / K Craig Hentrich.
Outlook: For a Coach with the second longest tenure in the League and w/
an owner like Bud Adams, not good. Jeff Fisher, who Myk and I met in HI
at the Pro Bowl several yrs., ago, Coach 'Fish' is in trouble. The team
cleaned house but chased away it's best ever QB in TN in Steve McNair.
Not only chased him away but to Baltimore, of all places. They are in the
same Conference. Not smart. Project Vince Young was brought in some
several months after leading Texas to a surprisingly good win over Card's
Matt Leinart in the big Bowl game for the NCAA National Championship.
Vince, who could wind up as a TE or WR also, is a project and young (and
injury-prone vet) Billy Volek will probably have to start at least part
of the season. Volek was very critical of the way his situation was
handled in the offseason so Fisher may have a QB controversy on his
hands. Bring on Matt Mauck? The Offencive Line is critical to this team's
chances down the stretch and has several good players like Benji Olson,
Mike Roos and Piller.
The running game
includes Payton, Chris Brown, who beat out Eddie
George several yrs., ago and Henry. The WRs besides Bennett are about
average. The Defence is centred around the Line and Hawai'i University's
Travis LaBoy, Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch, who played great in the
Pro Bowl last spring are the main men in the 3-4 Defence, which may have
to play a 4-3 or even a 5-2/5-3 at times this year. Depth is at a
premium.
Linebacking is solid with Ken Amato, Jared Newberry, Cody Spencer and
Keith Bullock onboard. Secondary is shaky at best until some of the kids
left (the 'Tits' lost three DBs via free agency) step up their games:
Gardner, Hope from Pittsburgh, who'll start, Donnie Nicks and CB Woolfolk.
The Special Teams is very special indeed with a great one like Hentrich,
who can play four different positions including QB in a pinch. He can H,
KO, P and placekick also if needed. Call him their modern day George
Blanda. Former Arena Leaguer Rob Bironas is a solid PK. Coverage is very
good and returning also good - enough for now. Predicted Finish: Kinda
hate to do this to Coach Fish but this team will have to play very smart
to win more than 5 or 6 games. I'll give them seven, and second in the
NFC South behind Jacksonville, Indianapolis but ahead of Houston, this
team's former home." Moose

"Moose's Tennessee
Titans
preview" Myk Aussie
Tennessee
Titans started in '60 in AFL as Houston Oilers. Coach: Jeff Fisher '02
record 11-5-0 QBs: Steve McNair, Billy Volek & Jason Gesser who's
rights were just traded from the B.C. Lions to the Ottawa Renegades.
Nobody gives more of himself to his coaching this side of Jon or Jay
Gruden than does Jeff Fisher, who I had the pleasure of watching up
close
in the Pro Bowl last Feb. Just replay a tape of last yrs. AFC
Championship game to see how much of a competitor Steve McNair, What a
performance.
The back up QB spot could be dicey if McNair were to come up lame for any
amount of time since Super Bowl XXX goat Neil (N)o'Donnell was jettisoned
in the off season at RB Eddie George not only has a good restaurant bar
in downtown Nash-Vegas (I've been there) but is still the best in the
AFC, when healthy. There could be trouble at FB unless Greg Comella has
recovered from the injuries that sidelined him much of last season at the
TE/WRS positions the team is stocked w/ Frank Wychek, Drew Bennett,
Derrick Mason & rookie Tyrone (slick cat) Calico. The 'O' line is
solid w/ Brad Hopkins, Justin Hartwig, Glenn DiNapoli & Benji (don't
call him A DOG!) Olson as earth-movers. The 'D'line with overrated injury
prone Jevan Kearse is erratic & needs an overhaul...@ LB are Pete
Sirmon, who played great in the AFC
Championship game in San Diego, Keith Bullock & Randy Godfrey, who
are
solid.
In the defensive 2ndary, Lance Schulters, Tank Williams (who the Tits
hope doesn't go in the
tank!), Tony Beckham (no not that Beckham!) & Andre Dyson, Kev's bro.
are solid enough &
quick. The Special Teams lost P/H Craig Hentrich so there is a hole to
fill. K Joe Nedney is solid & KR Mason is good, too. Prediction:
another 11-5-0 but no Super Bowl appearance with Rose's Chiefs & the
Broncos in the way." Moose
