By: Rich Moose Salzer
In the Western Conference my Dallas Stars will have plenty of difficulty
disposing of my good friend, Oilerbabe's Edmonton guys! I'm
predicting Dallas in six or, probably seven games. Darien Hatcher
& Mike Modano will probably be the reasons.
Also in the West, look for Detroit to end up on the short side of the 1st
round stick v. goaltender J.S. Giguere & the Anaheim Mighty Ducks,
much to the delight of my VA. mate, Rick Nobles wife, Jean! That's right
I'm sticking my neck out on the old chopping block & picking Anaheim
in 6 or 7.
In the other two West Conf. matches, expect the Myk's Canucks to take out
St. Louis (sorry Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk & Chris Pronger!) in 5
& Last but not least the Colorado Avalanche, who won me a small
gentleman's bet in '01, when they beat the always overrated New Jersey in
the Stanley Cup, will beat the improving Minnesota Wild-men in
a sqeaker!
In the Eastern Conf. things will be much different as the Senators will
beat the N.Y. Islanders in six, The Boston Bruins will make ex-coach Don
Cherry happy by beating Jersey in 5, The Tampa Bay Lightning will make
ex-goalie-babe Manon Rheaume pleased as they take out Washington in five
& The Maple Leafs (Hi cwoc Kathy in Ariz!) will beat the Flyers, but
I'm predicting 7 + some overtimes there.
American Hockey Playoff News...
Those pesky hometown Norfolk Admirals should finish off San Antonio's
Rampage (I just saw the Grand Rapids Rampage in Indianapolis last Sat.!)
in four. The Admirals won, 4-3 over San Antonio last night & are scheduled
to
play them again tonight @ Scope in Norfolk, VA. I'm sure that Gabriel
Morency will want to talk about this on SportsRage, Fri. 4/11/03. Stay
Tuned to 990 the Team every other Fri. night for me & Myk.

Subject: GAME 1 OF THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS
Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2003 22:21:00 -0600
Hello Myk, well what a night of HOCKEY!!! Oilers game notes
will be last on the report tonight. I would like to comment on
the other 3 games first.
Let's start in Toronto. It has been said many times that I am
not a Darcy Tucker fan however it is sad to see him suffer. Darcy
left the game early with a charley horse as teammate Nik Antropov also
received an injury, to his foot. The pain obviously didn't
stop this team as Alex Mogilny scored a hat trick, as a result the Leafs
walked away with a 5-3 win over the Philly Flyers. I am by no
means any sort of Leaf fan but I can say that they definitely dominated
on the Flyer's ice this evening. Well played game although I
stick with my prediction, Flyers in 7.
Next up we see Boston in New Jersey. I absolutely dislike
being negative but what a boring game! Jersey wins 2-1 over
the Bruins with both goals scored by Jamie Langenbrunner. Let's
hope this series gets just a little more exciting. My
prediction to this game Boston in 7.
Second best game and upset of the night goes to the Ottawa Senators and
the New York Islanders. What happened at the Corel Centre
anyway? Was Ottawa even there? Were they so scared of Yashin
they forgot to play? Sorry Sens but you put your fans to sleep in this
game. The Islanders came out strong and the Sens just didn't
fight back. Congrats to two former Oilers (Niinamaa &
Hamrlik) for leading the assists for New York and congrats to Garth Snow
for recording his 1st career playoff shutout. Isles beat
Ottawa 3-0. Despite the home ice upset I still go with Ottawa in 5.
Saving the best for last comes Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars. In
one word...AWESOME WIN! While many views differ with the
outcome of this series I had picked my Oilers in 6 secretly wishing it
could be a 4 game sweep. Nothing would be sweeter than
watching Lemieux, Hatcher and Modano crying like babies. It
has to be said that although Dallas is a strong, skilled
team the likes of Claude Lemieux should be left in the dressing room. Don
Cherry actually said it best "I can't believe they would even dress
that guy again" commenting on Lemieux's cheap shots late in the 3rd
period. We all know that Claude is famous for his dirty plays
and tonight it did him in. Payback is a bitch Claude and the
Oilers win is just what you deserve. I
will credit Marty Turco as the best Dallas Star. Marty made
some incredible saves. Speaking of saves..... Tommy Salo - YOU
ROCK! Tommy was amazing as more than once he was able to read
the puck direction even with big boys Semenov and Cross blocking his
view. The Oilers pulled off an incredible well deserved 2-1
win over the Stars. Don Cherry's post game comment
"Edmonton is my favorite team to watch, Go Edmonton". Thank
you Mr. Cherry, watch how Bubba beer sales triple after Oiler fans heard
your comments lol.
PostNote: Saturday April 5th the awards were given out in
Edmonton for the MVP regular season. Award winners included
Ales Hemsky - Top 1st Year Oiler, Steve Staios - Top Defenseman, Ryan
Smyth - Most Popular Player, Community Service Award - Georges Laraque,
Unsung Hero - Ethan Moreau, Top Defensive Forward - Todd Marchant and the
Feldman award for Co-MVP's - Tommy Salo and Todd Marchant. On a sad note,
Mr. Feldman whom the award is named after, passed away this same night. Zane
Feldman was an original owner of the Oilers from the WHA and was an
instrumental figure of the Oiler
organization. Condolences to the family of Mr. Zane Feldman.
As playoff fever continues, tomorrow will host game 1 for the following
teams: Washington Capitals/Tampa Bay Lightning (picked Caps in
5)
Anaheim Mighty
Ducks/Detroit Red Wings (picked Red Wings in 4)
Minnesota Wild/Colorado
Avalanche (picked Avs in 4)
St. Louis Blues/Vancouver
Canucks (picked Canucks in 6)
That's all I've got for now, will have a full report tomorrow on the
other 4 teams, and will be back with more Oilers on Friday.

Subject: OILERS READY
FOR POST SEASON!!!! by Oiler Babe.
Date: Mon Mar 31 2003
WOW!!
One hell of a week for the Oilers! First and foremost I would
like to high five all the boys and say thank you. Getting our
asses kicked at the last minute by Calgary last season has now been
forgotten. My beloved Oil have officially clinched a playoff
spot but will we remain 8th place is now the question. There
are 5 games left including tonight which could possibly
move us up the ladder to 7th or better. This is the 19th time of a
possible 24 that the Oilers have gone post season. Tough
competition either way you look at it. Detroit, Dallas or
Vancouver will be the first opponent.
I secretly hope that it is Dallas. Nothing personal, but the
way these boys are playing now, kicking some 'Star' ass in a 4 game sweep
would be the icing on the cake. The Oilers have had some incredible games
this past week. Phoenix on March
20th was a struggle for the Oil during the first period as the Coyotes
took a 2-0 lead. Edm bounced back to tie in the 3rd but not
enough spark to win. Coyotes take the game 3-2 in overtime.
The 2nd best game of the season had to be Mar 22 against Washington. I
say this because the Caps are my second fave team. Oilers
majorly kicked ass! Pisani not only scored his 1st NHL hat
trick but it was the 1st from an
Oiler this season. Moreau had an awesome game with 1 goal and
2 assists, where the hell did all this talent come from Ethan? This
has been a killer year from you - keep it up! Final Score Edm
5 Wash 3 March 23rd was also an amazing game for many reasons. We
welcomed back Todd Marchant who had missed 4 games due to an inflammation
of a membrane
surrounding his heart. Todd had an excellent game scoring 2
points, Cory Cross got his 1st goal as an Oiler and Dvorak, the other new
kid on the bus, scored 2 assists. Despite being outshot by the
Predators 34-18, the Oilers managed to end the game with a score of 3-2.
March 26th will definitely be the historical game of the year. By
eliminating the Coyotes from the playoff race the Oilers gain the last
post-season spot.
We have now come within 2 points for the 7th spot currently owned by the
Minnesota Wild. Dvorak has become an asset to this
organization since being acquired from the Rangers on March 11th. Then
there is Ales Hemsky, if I haven't said it a million times already, he is
just simply AMAZING. Thank you to Mac T for noticing that this
kid belongs on the 1st line. He plays so well with Ryan Smyth
you'd think they have been playing together for years. As a
final note to this game I have to
congratulate Kelly Buchberger from the Phoenix Coyotes. Kelly
was a heart and soul player for the Oil for 12 years. Kelly
was awarded the 'Silver Stick Award for Dedication' by the Oiler
organization prior to game play. Congrats Kelly! You will
always be one of my fave Oilers. Having met you personally,
your kindness and sincerity will always be with me. Class act
all the way and you deserve this award.
Last but not least, a comment on the up and coming from my team as we
enter post-season in April. It has been one of those years
that you just can't predict no matter how hard you try. We
started out great and had one hell of a slide in February. We
have seen talent from players who we thought were not capable of
producing. We have made trades that were thought to 'sink' the
organization as a whole. We have seen players enter their
career years - Todd Marchant, Ethan Moreau and players with potential -
Ales Hemsky, Fernando Pisani, Radek Dvorak. I have never been
prouder to be an 'Oiler' fan. We showed that despite injuries,
trades, and tons of media criticism we can still shine as a team. There
is no 'I' in team, you guys have done it as a group and should be
commended on your efforts. As I look to the playoffs I get
excited just knowing that we 'are' capable of doing so much. Good
luck Oilers and congrats for making the post-season. GO OILERS
GO!!!

"Myk Aussie &
Mates The Oilers were the real 'Stars' in this game tonight. The new
boys in the locker room could soon have Oiler fans forgetting about the loss of
Carter & Niinamaa. With both a goal and an assist from Radek
Dvorak and a goal from Isbister, the newest Oilers proved their worth to this
team.
Solid defense and plenty
of hard hits were a big key and Brad Isbister showed us he can carry on one hell
of a fight. Tonights win was just what the doctor ordered and have
now put us 8 points ahead of the Nashville Predators. Glorious win
for the Oil, possibly the best game we have seen so far this year. As
we are still holding on to the eighth spot for the playoffs, looks like Dallas
will be our first opponent.
If the Oilers can play
like they did tonight it will be an incredible playoff battle. With a
win like this it sure makes it
easy to forget the loss to the Islanders just 2 nights ago. Go Oilers
Go!!
Congrats to the 'Blue & Copper' and thank you for showing your fans what 'Oiler'
hockey is all about!! Final score Edmonton 4 Dallas 3.

Subject: Oilers Lose Heart
& Soul in Trade Deadline
Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2003 20:01:35 -0700
Hello Myk, well trade
deadline was yesterday and I am sad to report that my beloved Oilers have lost
some star players. Anson Carter who is recorded as our #1 goal scorer
has gone to the Rangers with fellow teammate Ales Pisa
in exchange for Radek Dvorak & Cory Cross. Dvorak had a career
year in 2000-1 before suffering a knee injury which wiped out his potential
2001-2 season. If he can sustain further injuries he could be an
asset to this
team. Dvorak has incredible speed and has been known to be a solid
penalty killer. Cory Cross on the other hand, is not a strong
defensive or offensive player but may be ok as a third-pairing option. Cory,
who is a Lloydminster native played for the University of Alberta Golden Bears
in 1990-91.
The heartbreak trade was Janne Niinamaa to the Islanders for Brad Isbister and
Raffi Torres. It was originally rumored that Janne was on his way to
the Leafs for Darcy Tucker or Nikolai Antropov. No disrespect to Mr.
Tucker
but unfortunately I do not see his style of play associated with the Oiler team. Brad
Isbister however, well, lets give the guy a chance. He has never been
a 'star' player as of yet. As a matter of fact Brad's fame has mostly come from
a history of trade rumours. Time will tell if he has the ability to
hold a spot. Torres has proven in his AHL career that he has star
potential. This left winger has speed, skill and can hit with the
best of them. I think he just needs to get a little more comfortable
with the NHL style of play.
A post comment to Oiler fans. Yes, this has been a big hit to our
team losing Carter & Niinamaa. Unfortunately the team can never
improve if we do not make necessary moves from time to time. This
time it was not about the money but the future development of our team. We
will never be able to compete with the huge salaries other teams offer but we
can be proud of one thing. If you look around the NHL today almost
every team has an ex-Oiler. Most of those ex-Oilers got their start
here, played their best years here and left history here.
Tonight's column is dedicated to one of my favorite Oilers - Janne Niinamaa.
Janne, you have given us your heart, soul and total dedication for the past 6
years. You will be deeply missed by your Oiler teammates and fans.
All the best to you in the Big Apple, may the team bring you much success and
happiness. Just remember to not play so well when the Oilers come
knockin'. lol.
OilerBabe XO

report" Myk Aussie
"Well Myk, as I am
reporting to you now, my team is still sitting in the eighth spot for the
Western Conference playoff race. Nashville is coming up very close
behind sitting with 65 points.
This is an "All Important" game for the boys in blue as they struggle
to keep that last & final spot for the 'Cup of Glory'. The Oilers
do not have the best success with the San Jose Sharks so tonight could prove an
interesting match up.
The rumor is that Ryan Smith may join the line-up tonight. Ryan is
the missing link to the Oilers of late, his get-in-your-face style of play is
what the Oil desperately need right now.
The Oilers, winless in 9 games, have got to prove they have what it takes to be
a playoff contender. I say watch out for Ethan Moreau and Todd
Marchant. Todd is playing his best season ever and as he becomes closer to the
free agent status, he will be the 'star' Oiler this year.
Ales Hemsky is another Oiler to keep an eye on. This kid is
unbelievable to say the least. He has the charisma and talent to be
an all-star he just needs the confidence to show it off. If not this
year, keep tabs on this kid, next year he could be a superstar.
Well that's it for the pre-game, let's see my boys take a victory and I'll be
back for the post-game."

Aussie.com as I am writing this to you I am listening to yet another
disappointing Edmonton Oiler game. Can you believe we were up 3-1 and
now we are in overtime battling yet again for a win? What the heck is
going on with my team they are looking absolutely horrible at this point. Game
over -ends in tie. What a shame that I am forced to write nothing
positive about the last seven games. Dammit Oilers get it together,

Subject: Moose Salzer's NHL
Playoff Preview '03
Date: Mon, 24 Feb 2003 11:28:59 -0500
The other night I was sort of
'stunted' because on Fri. I had done an entertaing interview w/ Gabriel Morency
on SportsRage Radio en La Belle Privonce de Montreal about Football related
stuff, especially my beloved Arena Footy. But I wanted to talk to some kanakas
about my NHL.
Since I had been on Honolulu's AM 1500 w/ Super Bowl Wayne, Scott Ka'alele,
Randy Myamoto & Johnny Miro last weekend talking mostly NBA trade rumors
& such, I was in a quandry. I don't think my Hawai'ian mates would do much
about Hockey, & being I only call in to them every other Fri. Being a
Canadian-Amer., it's kinda in my blood, even though my granddad played Canadian
Football, not Hockey.
Maybe that's why I love Hockey-Football so much, eh!? Anyway, as I am getting
ready to e-mail Myk my Week 5 Arena Football Results/Notes, etc. when I read an
e-mail s.o.s. for my top 20 NHL players & my picks for the playoffs. Glad
you ask Myk, now I can stop shakkkkking! Below is
Moose's picks for the NHL playoffs & top 20 players:
NHL Eastern Conference Playoff teams (in no particular order):
Ottawa, New Jersey, Washington, Montreal, Toronto, Tampa Bay
Boston, New York Rangers
Western Conference:
Dallas, Vancouver, Saint Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Phoenix
Colorado, Edmonton
In the playoffs in the East the Rangers, New Jersey, Boston (who's best player
Joe Thornton's 'lil bro Shawn, plays for my AHL Norfolk Admirals) &
Washington, w/ overrated Jarmir Jagr will all fall in the 1st round.
In the West, Chicago, Colorado, St. Louis & Phoenix (sorry, Wayne!) will not
survive the 1st round. It will come down to red-hot Dallas (the 'South Stars')
or San Jose v. either Ottawa or Tampa Bay (Manon Rheaume will be proud of her
former mates!) in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Again, since Moose-man's Carolina Hurricanes are in the soup but good this
season, I have to go w/ my next best teams; Dallas & Tampa Bay. Dark Horse
contenders who can't be counted out & who may scrape by include Myk's
Canucks in my third favorite Canadian City - Van, or Edmonton (the
Babe's Oilers) may pull a couple of upsets. Edmonton has the toughness &
Vancouver the O. But San Jose has just too much talent to keep coming up short
in the West. Tampa is very underrated & could be
the Carolina of the '03 season. Either Dallas v. Ottawa or San Jose v.Tampa or
Vancouver v. Montreal. Wouldn't Don Cherry & Ron MacLean be happy about an
all Canadian Stanley Cup (it would be the 1st since 1989).
Hey Oiler babe, Myk didn't believe about Manon Rheaume, the gorgeous goalie w/
Tampa in '92. I gave him the documents & he hasn't posted them yet or linked
to my girl's site! The only female to every play in a man's league. Back-up
goalie for one period w/Lighting before being sent back to the minors @ Atlanta
w/ the ECHL Chiefs.
Moose's top twenty players (in no particular order);
Joe Thornton - Boston, Mike Modano - Dallas, Olie Kolzig - Washington,
Martin St. Louis - Tampa Bay, Ron Francis - Carolina, Mark Messier - N.Y.
Rangers, Radek Bonk - Ottawa, Mario Lemieux - Pittsburgh, Pete Forsberg -
Colorado, Todd Bertuzzi - Vancouver, Marty Turco - Dallas, Jeff O'Neil -
Carolina, Ed Belfour - Toronto, Kevin Weekes - Carolina,
Manny Fernandez - Minnesota, Markus Nasland - Vancouver, Ray Whitney -
Columbus, Al MacInnis - Saint Louis, Brett Hull - Detroit, Patrick Lalime -
Ottawa(another former ECHL Norfolk Admiral) & Anson Carter -
Edmonton (Lalime & Carter tied @ 20.....More to come...In the coming weeks
Moose will be attending many of the Norfolk Admiral (AHL) remaining home
games & playoff games as the no.3 team in the AHL goes for the Calder Cup!
Moose Salzer is a season ticket holder of all 3 AAA
Norfolk teams - Af2's Norolk Nighthawks, Baseball's AAA Mets affiliate
Norfolk Tides & AHL's Norfolk Admirals. Oh, Don Cherry's #14 was great!
From Oiler Babe contd "Myk you
asked me to give you a fav list of NhL players, God Myk we could be
here all day. Instead I will give you 1 favorite from each NHL team.
New Jersey - Martin Brodeur, New York Islanders - Roman Hamrlik, New York
Rangers - Mark Messier
Philadelphia - Mark Recchi, Pittsburgh - Mario Lemieux, Boston - Sergei Samsonov
Buffalo - Miroslav Satan & Jochen Hecht (had to pick 2 - both ex-Oilers),
Montreal - Saku Koivu
Senators - Marian Hossa, Leafs - Mats Sundin, Thrashers - llya Kovalchuk,
Carolina - Ron Francis
Panthers - Staphane Matteau, Lightning - Nikolai Khabibulin, Washington - Peter
Bondra
Chicago - Lyle Odelein, Columbus - Ray Whitney, Detroit -!!STEVE YZERMAN!!,
Nashville - Vladimir Orszagh, St
Louis - Al MacInnis, Calgary - Craig Conroy, Colorado - Joe Sakic
Minnesota - Cliff Ronning, Vancouver - Trevor Linden, Anaheim - Paul Kariya,
Dallas - Pierre Turgeon
Kings - Felix Potvin, Phoenix - Kelly Buchberger, San Jose - Evgeni Nabokov
As far as favorite Oilers go - this is simple, Todd Marchant, Mike York, Ales
Hemsky, Ethan Moreau, Mike Comrie & Tommy Salo.
Predictions for the playoffs
still too early to tell but I do see Washington & Vancouver in there
somewhere. Hopefully with any luck and a whole lot of prayer,
Edmonton will at least make it to the first round. Disappointed OilerBabe XO
