These two comedy based MYKwebTV/TotalCFL TV shows made the latest edit of my movie/documentary "Football Fan Frenzy". Right: I'm 1 on 1 with TheGreyCup.

You may be asking why I am writing about this on here. Well because I firmly believe that I will sell this movie/documentary. It has not been my focus at all over the years but now it is. Contact me at myk@mykaussie.com if you believe you may have made the final edit or if you are interested in what I am planning. I need to now get moving in regards to some legal signoffs from the people that I talk to directly in this movie/documentary.
1999 CFL Grey Cup, my first of eleven. It was incredible! Great technology significance!
In November 2012 the 100th CFL Grey Cup Festival will be held in Toronto. The CFL Grey Cup is the Championship game of the CFL and a fantastic five day event. I have attended eleven Grey Cup Festivals, 1999 being the first. Each year it is one of my very favourite weeks. The 1999 Grey Cup also has real significance from a technology built of view as the 1999 Grey Cup MYKwebTV shows produced were some of the first ever true streaming videos to go on the Internet and seen around the World.
My love of the CFL started in 1998 when I went to a CFL BC Lions vs Calgary Stampeders game at BC Place in Vancouver. I call the downtown Vancouver football stadium “Pammy’s BC Place” as this is where Pamela Anderson was first discovered. When Pamela was 21 years of age she was at a BC Lions game and she was shown on the big screen. The crowd went wild. A representative from Labatt brewery was in the crowd, found her and offered her a modelling gig.
I really enjoyed the CFL game I attended in 1998 and the great fans. In 1999 I again attended BC Lions games in Vancouver with one of the highlights being the Halloween game, Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs BC Lions. The game was played from 7-10pm on Halloween night and many of the approximate 25,000 fans were dressed up. It was amazing. I dressed up as President Bill Clinton. My costume was a hit as many people that night and then at future CFL games talked to me about the costume, we had a great laugh. It was also the first time that I got to use my new Sony digital video camera to film an event.
It was great timing as approximately six months later people in Canada were amongst the first in the World to get high speed internet in their homes. As a result, in July 2000 the edited MYKwebTV shows from Halloween 1999 and also 1999 Grey Cup were some of the first true streaming video shows seen in the World. I uploaded these two shows to mykaussie.com within days of Microsoft releasing software that converted .avi files to .asf. These .asf files were much smaller in file size. This in combination with high speed internet enabled me to have true streaming video on the Internet. Streaming video on the Internet is still great but back in July 2000 it was truly amazing technology and I firmly believe a significant event in the history of the World.
My first CFL playoff game in 1999 was fun although I was disappointed as the BC Lions lost to the Calgary Stampeders. I then went home to Australia for a quick trip and returned in time for the 1999 Grey Cup which was in Vancouver. I obtained an excellent CFL Canadian Football League Grey Cup media pass for the Grey Cup.
What an incredible time my first Grey Cup Festival was. Attending media events and the amazing parties throughout the afternoons and evenings was fantastic. On the Sunday night after the game at The Shark Club a popular Sports bar, a Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan grabbed me and just laughed saying “Aussie mate, you are amazing! I’ve seen you everywhere the past four days and nights! Great effort!”. That sums up my time for sure, great times and not much sleep.
The Grey Cup festival started when I went to pick up my media pass. I saw all these great fans early on the Thursday night having fun at the Spirit Of Edmonton party. Edmonton Eskimos are one of the teams in the CFL and this was their party. I really had no idea the festival started Thursday night.
Friday night was the CFL Player Awards at the magnificent downtown Vancouver Convention Centre. I knew this was a TSN televised event so dressed up in a black suit, tie, my Aussie corked hat and new video camera I entered the Convention Centre. This was amazing. With my camera turned on I got to walk the red carpet filming the beautiful CFL cheerleaders from all the teams. I interviewed several of the cheerleaders including Melony from the BC Lions and Tammy from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. I picked out Melony and started interviewing her and as a pure coincidence her mother was from Australia. The interview with Tammy from Winnipeg is funny as I try and trick her into telling me her age. Afterwards I found out that Tammy got in some trouble as the cheerleaders weren’t meant to talk to the reporters. That’s so bad it’s kind of funny. The interview with some of the Saskatchewan Roughriders cheerleaders was also great and funny as one of them thought that Bill Clinton wasn’t the President of America anymore after being impeached. Bill was still the President at the time. I asked her if she had been hibernating all winter not knowing this.
It was a great night as I got to also watch the awards presentation and then meet some of the players and their ladies at the after party. While interviewing two Hamilton Tiger-Cats players they grabbed me around the neck and started saying “CFL is dangerous just like Australian Rules Football”. With a glass of red wine in my hand, I replied by saying “Well red wine is dangerous”. I started waving my glass around to escape the headlock that they had me in. It definitely worked as these two huge CFL players didn’t want red win over their nice white shirts. After the awards I went to the Spirit Of Edmonton party where I met some amazing CFL fans. Some of them loved saying to me “Throw another shrimp on the Barbie” and “the dingo ate my baby”. These being two sayings that Canadians and Americans seem to like in regards to Australia. It was a great night.
On the Saturday morning I attended a media breakfast and then went to BC Place with other media to see the setup for game day. I then ran into a great group of BC Lions fans from the night before. These guys about twenty of them were dressed in suits just like the Blues Brothers and called themselves the BC Booze Brothers. They were from BC British Columbia and BC Lions fans. It was a very fitting and a great name as I was now discovering the Grey Cup festival was very “boozey”. These guys had great fun in stickering the lady CFL fans throughout the weekend with their BC Booze Brothers stickers. The ladies butts and breasts were the favourite locations for their stickers. Great clean fun and some great footage for me.
The party that I was at on the Saturday afternoon was a lot of fun. This is where I met up with Jeffry a Tiger-Cats fan wearing his Tiger-Cats jersey and a black and yellow kilt. Jeffrey told one of the funniest jokes I have ever heard about Australian crocodiles. I then met up with some great Edmonton Eskimos fans. They invited me to The Shark Club a very popular Vancouver sports bar. I seriously thought Greg Norman the great Australian golfer known as “The Shark” owned The Shark Club as there aren’t too many sharks in the waters off of Vancouver. Greg wasn’t the owner. When we decided to leave The Shark Club I called one of the CFL Grey Cup media vehicles and we went again to the Spirit Of Edmonton party. These new Eskimo mates of mine loved it riding around in a CFL media vehicle and it saved us all a taxi fare, always a bonus. To this day the Saturday night at the Spirit Of Edmonton party was one of the best parties I have ever attended, I got some amazing comedy based footage.
Sunday was game day. Before the game I got more very funny footage, this time in the parking lot and outside the stadium. Some of the people working there remembered me as Bill Clinton from the CFL Halloween night game and we had a great laugh. At half time in the smoking area I got my Australian Rules Football out. We had a bit of a kick around and again I got some incredible comedy based footage. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Calgary Stampeders in a great game although I didn’t see much of the game as I continued to have an amazing time filming great and funny fans in the crowd.
After the game I was allowed in the press conferences in which Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback the American Danny McManus was voted MOP Most Outstanding Player while Mike Morreale was voted Most Valuable Canadian player. My media pass didn’t say I was allowed in the winning teams locker rooms but I got in without a problem. It was great times in there as the players celebrated the great win. My two mates from the CFL Awards night that got me in the headlock again loved being interviewed.
After the game it was back to The Shark Club to continue the Grey Cup victory with CFL fans and then home to bed, late on the Sunday night. An incredible three days and nights in which I had a great time and made many great mates. I am still friends with many of these fans that I met at the 1999 Grey Cup.
I have an amazing twenty minutes of edited footage from the 1999 Grey Cup as part of the movie/documentary I have produced. Several mates from this 1999 Grey Cup Festival really enjoyed the two hour video that I produced just of the 1999 Grey Cup within weeks of this great event. In my next CFL Grey Cup report I will write about the 2000 CFL season and the 2000 CFL Grey Cup in Calgary." Myk Aussie
