Ooch, the Hawaii Warriors were
defeated 41 to 10 by the Georgia Bulldogs in Tuesday nights Sugar Bowl in New
Orleans! The famous Villi the Warrior on NFL Pro Bowl MYKwebTV!
Wow! What a domination it was by
the Bulldogs on Offense and Defense. I watched the whole game as I had only been
able to watch the Hawaii Warriors once during the 07 season yet Moose Salzer has
written weekly NCAA Football reports on here focusing on the Warriors. I was
hoping for a Warriors win and then was hoping they could at least make a game of
it after it became obvious the Bulldogs were a better team.
I particularly enjoyed 1) The commentary by Fox about the history of the
Warriors, 2) Comments about their approximately $50,000 a year recruiting budget
compared to the massive budgets of the top rated teams 3) The great job that
June Jones has done coaching the Warriors 4) All the Hawaii fans dressed up
including the famous Villi the Warrior as pictured above.
Despite Tuesday nights lose it was a great year by Hawaii. You can see Villi the

report from Super Bowl Wayne!" Myk Aussie
I had the pleasure of watching the game on Saturday night on TSN here in Canada
via ESPN as the Hawaii Warriors defeated the Washington Huskies 35 to 28 to go
12-0 for the season. They are now off to the Sugar Bowl. Congratulations to the
Warriors on a great season, I believe there best ever.

"Colt Brennan takes a knee a foot away!" by Super Bowl Wayne
Yes folks
that is exactly what happened in Friday nights game between University of Hawaii
and Boise State for the Western Athletic Conference Championship Game. The UH
Warriors had run the ball for nearly 7 minutes up to the one foot line. UH had
just got a first and goal on the one foot line with about 42 seconds on the game
clock. On the previous set of downs, it was first and ten on the ten yard line
with two minutes left in the game.
The
Warriors took the football on their own 30 yard line and ran the ball to the one
foot line and a first and goal. UH Head Coach, June Jones signaled for Brennan
to take a knee when it was clear the game was over. UH was leading by 12 points,
the score was 39 to 27 over The Boise State Broncos. What a class act by June
Jones not going for the touch down and piling it on Boise State. The University
of Hawaii fans erupted in pandemonium. Student fans jumped the rail on to the
field. Next thousands of fans rush the field. The Police were then concerned to
protect the Goal Posts.
The fans
were a happy bunch. They wanted to celebrate their first out right WAC
Conference Championship ever. At one point the fans lifted Colt Brennan up on
their shoulders and paraded him around like their their true Football "King".
Colt himself was loving it. This win gave the Warriors their 11Th win in a row,
and kept the UH team undefeated. ( Tonight Kansas lost to Missouri) NOW
University of Hawaii is the only undefeated I-A -NCAA football team is the
country.
Next week
UH-Warriors plays host to the University of Washington Huskies. This game should
determine if the UH Warriors can receive a BCS Bowl bid. UH must win its 12Th
game next week over University of Washington to be come the only undefeated
College I-A team . The game will be again Nationally televised. What Bowl game
doesn't want an undefeated team for it game and a Heisman candidate too." Super

From Moose and Michele "Lead by the strong passing of Heisman Candidate QB Colt
Brennan (who threw 6 TDs) and the rushing of Dave Farmer, Kealoha Piralres and
Brennan, Hawai'i cruised Saturday night over New Mexico St University, 50-13.
Brennan broke the U. Hawai'i school mark of current Hamilton - CFL QB Timmy
Chang's 117 career TD passes and now the NCAA's all-time TD passer with
119 TD passes. Brennan has passed for the 119 TDs in half the time it took Timmy
Chang to pass for that many. Chang played in 56 games from 2000-04, including
that three game red-shirt season of '01 and Brennan has now started 23 games at
QB for the Warriors.
True froshman RB Pilares has beaten out Nebraska transfer RB Leon
Wright-Jackson, who has also had his time but by rJr RB Dave (Farmer Dave)
Farmer, who slimmed down from 237 to 224 lbs. this past offseason. Hawai'i has a
bye week this weekend and plays Boise St, who I saw in Idaho back in late Sept,
in two weeks. Once again Colt Brennan has been named WAC Player of the Week.
Other Hawai'i QBs to be honoured for Offencive Player of the Week in June Jones
coaching tenure with the Warriors include: Shawn Withy-Allen, Timmy Chang many
times, Jason Whieldon, Dan Robinson and Nick Rolovich. Rolovich, Chang,
Withy-Allen and reserve QB-WR-H Jared 'Red' Flint have gone on to play in one
Pro League or another. Brennan may also be the best runner of the bunch, though
I still think that Withy-Allen who rushed for 1,000 arena league yards, no small
feat is. Brennan will go further in the Pros before it's all over though. Now on

Boise St 58 defeated New Mexico St 0 and I was there at the game!
The Boise St Broncos beat
up on injury depleted New Mexico St Aggies at the Broncos Stadium here in Boise,
Idaho. The air is clean, the water not so great here at this Best Western but
the I-net is free and I am feeling good this morning as the fellow WAC Hawai'i
Warriors beat the Utah St Aggies (also!), 52-37. Despite Colt Brennan
re-injuring his right high ankle sprain, the Warriors got 4 TDs out of backup QB
Tyler Graunke. Graunke and third string QB Inoke Funaki rushed for 21 yds., and
1 TD also.
Boise ST Canadian Players: OL Drew Woodruff [B.C.], 'The Canadian
Crippler', LB Josh Bean [Calgary], OL Jon Gott [Ontario] and Hawai'i player from
Moloka'i: Kapono Rawlings-Crivello. One more player also from Amsterdam, too. I
didn't get his name. Special Thanks to all those
at Boise ST who looked out for me; the Athletic Director, players, staff!
New Mexico St is mainly known for it's fine QBs over the years; Prof. Charley
Johnson, 55 once a Denver Bronco/Houston Oiler/and Saint Louis Cardinal, Buck
Pierce and Joe Pisarcik of the
CFL, et, al. But when starting QB Chase Holbrook went out with a rib reinjury it
was lights out on any chance the other Aggies had on winning up here in Idaho.
Boise St on the other hand used their first two QBs Taylor Tharpe, Nick Lomax,
and a frosh third QB to
perfection in getting 55 players time on the field in a rout.
Hawai'i
is now #15 in the NCAA Top Rankings. They are off to their best start since
1980.

Speaking of the University of Hawai'i, Heisman Trophy Candidate QB Colt Brennan
has now achieved 21 TDs and only six INTs though he did throw 5 (three tipped in
the air by WRs), in the Warriors rout of Idaho, 48-20 this past weekend. The
Warriors are in first place in the WAC with a 5-0-0 mark and 2-0-0 in the WAC.
Brennan has over 1,500+ yds., passing though he missed last weekends game v.
Charleston Southern. Hawai'i 66, Charleston Southern 10, More. Hangin' with
'Super Bowl' Wayne and Rand 'The Man' Miyamoto at Aloha Stadium. This week:
Hawai'i Warriors, 4-0-0 v. Idaho Vandals, 1-3-0, 0-0-0 in WAC at Moscow,Idaho.
Next weekend; I am at Bosie St. v. new Mexico St., another WAC game.
Last weekend: at Aloha Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 22nd, 2007; Hawai'i 66,
Charleston Southern Buccaneers 10. Injured and out: Heisman Trophy Candidate
Hawai'i QB Colt Brennan. Left in Second quarter: WR Jason Rivers. Charleston
Southern: Centre: Rick Howell (came back in thrid quarter) and QB Eli Byrd, hurt
twice left game for good in third quarter.
Just Wondering Dept: Whatever happened to my homeboy Pesefea Fiaseu, Jr?!
Storyline: QBs Tyler Graunke and Inoke Funaki completed 28 of 45 passes for 363
yds., 5 TDs (plus one more rushing by Graunke) and racked up: 459 yds., Offence
in Brennan's absence to help the Hawai'i Warriors NCAA team to their only second
4-0-0 start in school history. It was a game time decision that didn't set well
with Brennan, but it was a wise on for Coach June Jones. Later in the year
especially it will be looked back on as one of the best decisions Coach made.
Maybe Athletic Director Herman Frazier, who Wayne, Randy and I talked to after
the game, planned the Charleston Southern game in clairvoyance! Brennan could
have played on his bad ankle but by beating Ch. So. by 56 points (believe this
or not, the spread for the game was SIXTY!), Graunke, who played the first three
quarters and Funaki, a sub who played almost every play of the fourth (except
the final kneel down) did plenty enough.
Graunke had an inauspicious start by throwing 2 INTs in his first four passes.
But Hawai'i's Defence stopped to deep drives to the Hawai'i goaline in the first
when trick plays by the Buccs blew up in their faces. The Buccs are now 1-3-0,
but more importantly still 1-0-0 in their Conference. Truth be told, the Buccs
no huddle, type of 'K-gun' Offence caused the Warriors problems in the first
half. Hawai'i lead only 21-10 at the half. The introspective Graunke, who's
played five different positions at Hawai'i in his three years on varsity, blamed
himslef. Rust was the probable cause especially after all-WAC WR Jason Rivers
went out. Aaron Bain an Malcolm Lane (one TD each) more than filled in
adequately. To start the third quarter, Ryan Mouton, a reserve CB returned the
opening kickoff for a TD. Then on Hawai'i's first Defencive series, S Jake Patek
forced an INT that was picked off by LB Adam Leonard (who later sat out the 4th
quarter with a slight ankle sprain) and returned for a TD. All of a sudden it
was 35-10 and the rout was on. Hawai'i scored 31 unanswered points the rest of
the way out and Jones was able to get 57 players time on the field.
Game Balls:
1) QB Tyler Graunke, 4
TDs.
2) KR-CB Ryan Mouton
3) LB Adam Leonard
4) K Dan Kelly
5) DE Dave Veikune, 2 sacks

The 36,000+ fans there at Aloha Stadium sure enjoyed another Warrior blowout win
but the biggest question in Hawai'i sports lately is: Should the state of
Hawai'i build a new stadium or 'just' refurbish the old Aloha stadium? When
Super Bowl Wayne LaVelle picked me up at my Hotel Saturday morning, he drove us
down to Olelo to pick up a camera, tripod and attachments (we had to get 9-volt
batteries and film also - and a card and $20 Starbucks gift certificate for Mr.
Ben Yee,of the Na Koa (The Warrior) Club for the two VIP Passes (B) that were
left at Will Call for us (Wayne and I - Randy was a spotter for the game in his
spot in the reporters booth, as usual). We accomplished many things that I am
proud of on this day but mostly hangin' with Wayne and learning more than I have
learned with my other partnership in the last 5.5 years. Wayne and I interviewed
many people in the tailgate party outside the Stadium and inside as well on the
somewhat thorny question of should the state of Hawai'i raise the estimated
$300-$500/mil. need to build a new Stadium or 'just' refurbish the old Aloha
Stadium, which was built in 1974-75.
The first tenants of the Aloha Stadium were the old Honolulu Hawai'ians of the
old World Football League back in early '75 (the Stadium opened then in June),
then the U. Hawai'i (then) Rainbows played their first home game there on Sept.
1975. In 1977 the Pacific Coast League S.F. Giants 'AAA' affiliate the Hawai'i
Islanders started playing baseball there. One of their first players was (get
this!) Barry Bonds, Jr., sans the steroids and with the Pittsburgh Pirates in
the Bigs shortly later. The Islanders moved to Colorado Springs, CO., later in
1987. Concerts featuring Celine Dion, Cheap Trick, Janet Jackson, Sting and many
others followed. The structure of the Stadium has been weakened over the years.
All it took for me to realize this is one trot over the catwalks on the open
corners where the trade winds come in one year during an AFC-NFC Pro Bowl game
once. I love the open corners and other things about Aloha Stadium.
It's surely the prettiest Stadium I've seen Pro Football in although I love five
or six in the CFL and Cleveland Browns Stadium and QuaalCom in San Diego is
surely fine as well. Arizona's old stadium, RFK and old Memorial are also
all-time favorites of mine throughout the years. We are puting out a DVD on the
interviews we conducted and I'll have more news about that later. Super Bowl
Wayne and Rand 'The Man' Miyamoto are two of my all-time favorite Pro sports
reporting folkes and have done more than anybody in the last 5-6 yrs., I know in
the business. It's funny, but when I called Wayne and left a message, he called
right back and the Ohana Honolulu Airport Hotel did well to put the call through
to my room. When I asked about Randy M., Wayne said, "Turn on 1180
a.m. tonight and I bet he's doing a IHL or OHL game tonight. I did it right then
(!) and there was Randy! It was like I went back in time to when Randy and I
used to be on 'Sports Rap' three years earlier!
Randy is still spotting at Aloha and I learned a lot from Randy and Wayne about
being on radio which parlayed into a paying gig later with Sirius and with the
Virginian Pilot Sports. Randy informs me that in Nov. KUMU 2 radio, which I used
to be a part of too, will be going 24/7 and he hopes to get on there with
another show. I gave Randy my digits and still have his and we will be blasting
the airwaves on the Aloha state with uneasy listening soon again. Praise the
Lord and Mahalo and Aloha. Now I need to give thanks to a bunch of people here
that this the best trip of the year: The University of Hawai'i for not
forgetting a former student and a great sportscaster for the VIP passes; Rand
'The Man' Miyamoto of 1180 a.m. Hawai'i Sports Radio. Can't wait for the new
show Randy!; Gary Dickmann and Sports Animals, even though he and I have
differences, the short but effective Kalani Simpson, Wayne LaVelle, Gary, Mark
and Kimo at Olelo for the use of the equipment, Bobby Curran, Kaleo
Pilanca,Robert Kekaula, Crystal (Gayle) Akana, Ben Yee, Lois Manin, Herm
Frazier, Colt Brennan, Ryan Grice-Mullen, Dave 'Farmer Dave' Farmer, Keala
Watson, Kim, Ohana Honolulu, June Jones, Paul Arnett, Lanai, Starbucks Honolulu,

Boise St. Fan likes Haka: "As a graduate and avid fan of Boise St., University
of Hawai'i fans may not be too interested in my opinion, but fear not. This
member of Bronco Nation [the real Broncos!] was diappointed to see that Karl
Benson and the WAC discouraged and even penalized you for the Haka. I think you
should be proud of your team, successes and culture. Intimidating? Heck yes, but
it is exactly what is good about NCAA Football rivalries. I applaud your
defiance Coach June Jones! Amber M. Beierle, Boise Idaho."
Question from the Star Bulletin lately: "Should the University of Hawai'i
continue their Haka Dance before their games": 82% - Yes {I agree}, 18%
Nambi-Tambis, No.
