Talking NFL  on The Jim Rome show on Easter Friday. Listen now!

Wow! This was big. I was lucky to get through and on his show yesterday and I talked about the time I tried to hunt down and interview Brett Favre. Refer below March 4 report on NFL webWORLD Click here. I also talked about the Denver Broncos along with saying NFL is the equal best game in the World along with Aussie Rules Football. I talked about how Darren Bennett changed the NFL the way NFL punters now punt using the Aussie Rules Footy drop punt when they need to land the ball inside the 20 yard line. I also talked about Aussies Mat McBriar, Ben Graham and Sav Rocca currently punting in the NFL along with how the Pittsburg Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda who is from the USA learnt and effectively uses the Aussie drop punt.
 

I believe Jim Rome has about 5 million listeners daily. He is the biggest sports radio guy in USA with his show going to many USA markets. Many places in Canada also carry his daily 3 hour sports radio show. I met Jim Rome at the Super Bowl Media centres in 03 and 04 and thus I believe this is a reason why I got through and thus got on his very popular sports radio show yesterday. Next time I need to slow down a bit and realize that the large USA audience is not used to my Aussie accent. I tend to get very excitable and passionate when I talk sports on USA and CDN radio especially when I talk about Aussie Rules Footy.

I just subscribed to his online pod cast to re listen and I was on for 3 minutes without him interrupting at all. He bagged me a bit after the 3 minutes saying "I didn't understand Myk, I heard about Brett Favre and Darren Bennett." but then he said "No Myk I did understand you. That was Myk for 3, 5, 8 minutes however long that was and yes we do see Myk down at Super Bowl's in the Media Centre. That was Myk Aussie in Calgary". Moose's New York Jets 06 preview!
New York Jets, 2005 Season Record: 4-12-0, 47th season, One Super Bowl, One AFL Title. Coach: Eric Mangini. QBs: Chad Pennington, Pat Ramsey and Kellen Clemens, 2nd rd. pick from Oregon St. Newcomers to watch: Kimo Von Oelhoffen DLm Pittsburgh, WR/KR-RB Tim Dwight New England, Centre Trey Teague,Buffalo, OLm D'Brickashaw Ferguson 1st pick Virginia, Centre Nick Mangold 1st pick THE Ohio St.
Outlook: Gone are QBs: Vinny Testverde who set an all-time NFL record by throwing at least one TD in 19 consecutive NFL seasons and weak armed and injured Jay Fiedler who gives it one more shot in Tampa with the Buccs. In are second round pick Kellen Clemens rated bysome noted observers thought to be the second best QB in the recent NFL draft after the Cardinals picked Matt Leinart.

Oh yea; Chad 'what's-his-name' is back after a second arm injury in three years. Don't expect this to be his team' much longer with Clemens onboard. Just for the sake of depth the Jets picked up Pat Ramsey not one of Joe Gibbs favorites from Washington. Ramsey may have been departed Steve 'Ballgame' Spurrier's guys, but not Oldschool Gibbs. Also gone is "players Coach" Herman Edwards who the Jets kicked aside after (surprisingly enough!) The Kansas City Chiefs became obsessed with his services. Say what? This is the same guy who had potential stud and current Grey Cup magnet Ricky Ray (Edmonton-CFL) on the roster and called him "a nice Canadian QB". Whatever, Herm.

The biggest additions to this rapidly improving team are pass-rush specialist and the Steelers biggest and best DLm down the stretch, the Big Island of Hawai'i's Kimo Von Oelhoffen. He should have two or three big years left in him. He'll be a welcome addition to a Defence that realized too much on fine LBs like Jon Vima last year. Gone also is Pro Bowl CB Ty Law, to K.C. Dwight will help the Special Teams where reliable Punter Ben Graham the Australian stood out last year.

RB Curtis Martin should have at least one 1,000 yard season left in him, but with all-time second best WR Wayne Crebet gone (second only to the immortal Don Maynard), Dwight may have to do double duty. Getting help in the draft in these crucial areas helps but the Jets won't make the playoffs this year. If New England's child-Coach prodigy Mangini (or boy-ish, not goy-ish new G.M. Mike Tannenbaum) develop quickly, they could surprise everybody and go 8-8-0 this year. That's my pick, but third in the AFC East Division. No playoffs in '06, but watch out for them in '07." Moose

BALTIMORE RAVENS (5-3) at NEW YORK JETS (6-2): An ol’ time ground-game in the making?

Could be, for several reasons. First, the teams are two of nine NFL clubs that show a run-oriented offense, running more than they pass. Two, Ravens running back JAMAL LEWIS says he wants more carries, and head coach BRIAN BILLICK says he wants to accommodate him. "He needs the ball more," says Billick. "Anytime he doesn’t have the ball 25 times, it’s something we’ve got to go back and check."

Finally, although no team can eschew a balanced offense, the Jets might depend even more on workhorse running back CURTIS MARTIN – the NFL’s third leading rusher (865 yards) – to take some of the burden off quarterback QUINCY CARTER, starting his first game with the club in place of the injured CHAD PENNINGTON. Seven of Martin’s top 11 rushing performances have come in cold-weather November.

Matchup to watch: The Jets’ Carter against S ED REED, he of the NFL record 106-yard interception TD return last week. The three-year veteran has 16 pickoffs in 39 career games.
