Tues, Sept 30 '03 "What a shocker! The AFL 2003 GRAND FINAL: BRISBANE Lions Defeated COLLINGWOOD Magpies" Batmans
How about this, the
same two teams playing off for the flag two years in a row! Last time the result
was only 9 points, and it was a close tough game, which was hailed as the best
Grand Final in the last few years, this time ........the Awesome Lions ate
the Magpies alive!!!!!
Without their gun player, Anthony Rocca it was tough, and In my opinion coach
Mick Malthouse got 'outcoached' by "Lethal" Leigh Mathews, The Magpies
were missing 1 player from there normal line up, and the line up that beat the
lions 3 weeks ago, but Mick moved a key defender to the forward line,
which threw the balance of the defence out, and that player had no effect in the
forward line, I think that this was a telling move in the whole confidence of
the backline, who were under pressure all day, from a rampant Lions midfield
which completely outclassed the Magpies midfield, while the Lions players went
on the hunt, the Magpies were not to be seen or felt in anyway shape or form,
they were "missing in action"
The only Magpies that could hold their heads up would be Josh Fraser, Simon
Prestigiacomo & Alan Didak, and only Jonathan Brown was really beaten on the
day in the Lions line up, the rest were very very strong! The Lions had a few
suspect injuries to a couple of their stars, but as I said in my preview, real
stars perform in the most adverse conditions even when there is a cloud over
their fitness. Brisbane was the reigning 2 time champion, and now is the 3 time
champion, the last time a team won 3 in a row was 1955,56,57 by Melbourne, and
the time before that was Collingwood with 4 in a row in 1927,28,29, & 1930,
this shows how hard a feat this is, and this Brisbane team should be labelled as
one of the greatest teams in the history of our fantastic game.
I am a hardened Collingwood supporter, with many years of pain from losing grand
finals (Collingwood have only won 1 of their last 12 attempts, have played in 40
Grand Finals, more than a 1/3 of the total, with only 14 wins) it doesn't get
any easier, is was unbelievable how a team could play it's worst game in 2 years
in the most important game, pressure is a factor, and clearly Brisbane can
handle the fire!, Collingwood must reassess themselves if they are to recover
from this!!!!! Brisbane is setting the standard and Collingwood are miles
behind.
All the best for the Cricket season, Come on Aussie's, and the European Soccer
season, Go Barcelona, Man Utd , & Juventus!!! Signing off for the AFL season
of 2003" Batmans, Melbourne

Calgary
Kangaroos defeat the Irish Gaelic guys 108 to 42!
By: Moose Salzer
Yesterday, Sunday, September 28th the Calgary Kangeroo's faced the Calgary Irish
in an Aussie Rules Footy game at the Calgary Irish Rugby grounds by the Calgary
Airport. I filmed most of the match for MYKwebTV. Myk Aussie played in Defence
for most of the game with an occasional run on the ball.
The match started at 2:30 p.m. and lasted until 4:30 p.m. The game was played in
four 15 minute quarters. At the half the score was 78-30 in favor of the Roos.
The Irish were at a bit of a disadvantage since they were more used to Gaelic
rules however they handled the Aussie Footy better than expected as Gaelic footy
is played with a round soccer type ball. Both teams played hard and fair.
Some of the stars of the game for the Irish were numbers 23, 12 and 10. Both
teams pushed the ball up the field hard and the Irish scored more one point
goals. The Kangaroos scored more six and three point goals and won the game
108-42. Myk Aussie made several nice plays and 'Roos Rosey" one of the
stars of the Phoenix tournament set up several of his teammates for goals.
Numbers 10, 16, 18 & 24 played especially good for the 'Roos.
There was a decent crowd there of people watching yesterday as well. Afterwards
the guys went into the Irish pub there at the park and had a few coldies while
watching the Raiders come from behind win over San Diego in the NFL, as the CFL
game was not on TV. A great day, a great hard fought game & again many
friends were made" Moose

Batman's AFL GRAND
FINAL 2003 Preview Myk
Aussie the weekend turned in the results that brought the two best teams in the
competition back together for the greatest game, the AFL GRAND FINAL 2003
As per my predictions last week this is what went down!
AFL PRELIMINARY FINAL ONE: Collingwood v Port Adelaide ( At MCG in Melbourne)
As was the case for both games this week it was a knock out game, loose and it
is off for the end of season, team trip. Win, and you have a crack at winning
the game that all teams are vying for "the AFL Grand Final" Port
started the game with 2 quick goals and looked ominous, but the Magpies settled,
and by the 1st break they were comfortably 3 goals clear, Port never really got
anywhere near the Magpies after that, and really the last couple of minutes of
that 1st qtr showed how poor the Port was going to be. With just a few minutes
to go in the 1st qtr, Port were three goals behind and instead of trying to get
a goal or two before the end of the qtr to be in the hunt, they started wasting
time in their own backline....that showed how weak of mind and gutless they had
become under the pressure cooker atmosphere of finals footy. From here on in the
Magpies ground them into the MCG dirt and shattered their confidence so much
that they even missed easy opportunities to get near in the second term.
Collingwood now go into their second consecutive Grand Final, they are strong
and confident, but the only sour point for them is that their speared and
strongman Anthony Rocca will surely miss the Grand Final because of a waywood
elbow that collected Ports Laid, and got him reported. He will miss two weeks!!
AFL PRELIMINARY FINAL TWO: Sydney v Brisbane (in Sydney)
As I said last week, Sydney destroyed Port Adelaide in their encounter two weeks
ago, and received a well needed two week rest for this game against Brisbane,
but in the end it wasn't enough to get them over the line against the rampaging
Lions, the Lions got away from Sydney in the second term, but the Swans fought
back to be only 3 points down at the final break, and looked stronger than the
Lions, however, that was not the case, the Lions big guns came out blazing in
the final term and blew Sydney away with 3 early goals which broke the back of
the spirited Swans. It just shows how strong the Lions are and even with their
backs against the wall they can not be underestimated, as they have shown more
than once in this finals campaign. Sydney bruised and battered leave the finals
as overachievers and will not be overlooked so much next year, a great result
for a team that, by all the expert opinions, was supposed to finish last!!
Here we go ...here we go...here we go!!!!!!
The AFL 2003 GRAND FINAL:
COLLINGWOOD (Magpies) V BRISBANE (Lions)
How about this, the same two teams playing off for the flag two years in a row!
You would have trouble writing the script for these two teams to get where they
are after half the season was gone, but the second half of the season has seen a
lot of success for both teams, as has the finals series. Tomorrow they go at
each other again, however there seems to be a big difference from last time, at
this time last year Brisbane were hailed as unbeatable, and Collingwood had no
chance, in the end the Lions did get up and win their second flag in as many
years, but they got a scare as the Magpies nearly pinched it in a 9 point game,
which was hailed as the best Grand Final in the last few years.
This year however sees the Magpies a year wiser, stronger, and you would think
more determined, to achieve their goal of taking the flag back to their mecca...Victoria
Park. Without their gun player, Anthony Rocca it will be tough, but there seems
to be an undercurrent of belief in the team at the moment that this is their
time, and who would begrudge them! no real football fan would, that is for sure!
(maybe the Carlton fan, but they are not real footy fans!).
The lions have a few suspect injuries to a couple of their stars, but inevitably
real stars perform in the most adverse conditions even when there is a cloud
over their fitness. Brisbane is the reigning 2 time champion, and should not be
underestimated in any way shape or form, they are a dangerous side in every way,
and given a sniff they will eat you alive!!! The Pies will have to go hard and
just not give them an inch of free space and they will have a chance. For my
part I have to go for my HOT MAGPIES to take their 15th flag.
GO PIES!!!!!" Batman's

Seems
like they are getting ready for a big AFL Grand Final Booze up!
Hundreds of VB stubbies stolen September 24, 2003 SOMEONE in NSW is in for a
hell of a barbecue after 700 cartons of beer were stolen from a warehouse near
Canberra overnight. The grog, worth more than $20,000 was stolen by clearly
sober, well-organised thieves who had planned the raid down to the last detail,
police said. Two company forklifts at the Carlton United Breweries warehouse in
Queanbeyan were used to lift 10 pallets of beer onto what must have been a large
truck.
They have now asked barbecue planners, beachgoers, picnic-makers, business
owners and the general public to be on the lookout for offers of cheap booze
over the coming weeks. The haul includes 420 cartons of Melbourne and Victoria
Bitter stubbies and 160 cartons of long-necks worth nearly $21,000. The alarm
was only activated when the thieves opened a roller-door to remove the stock,
leaving them just a limited amount of time to escape. However, when security
officers arrived on scene there was no sign of the robbers, Acting Sergeant Rod
Parker said.
An unknown number of thieves forced their way into an office at the Kendall
Avenue premises and grabbed keys to the warehouse, the officer said. "The
theft appears to have been well-planned and well executed," he added.
"They've had fair knowledge of the workings of the premises." "I
would appeal for anyone offered cheap beer, including hotel or bottle shop
employees to contact us immediately," Sgt Parker said." Myk

Thanks Dessy you star Aussie Rules Football "traveling man" Dessy has
played everywhere, Toronto, San Fran, Gawler, Mt Gambier, Cairns, Evanston
Green. Mr Intl Football I call him.
Half way around the world and I felt
right at home last night as I joined my new team the Calgary Kangaroo’s at the
Flying Emu in downtown Calgary. The big screen provided great viewing as Alistar
Lynch was the main difference between the Lions and the Crows. The strongly
built full forward was brilliant for the Lions while Brett
Burton for the Crows was our best. After listening to Big
Stewy abuse nearly every player that wasn’t a former Bomber we then saw 10
minutes of highlights from the Port Adelaide Power who are in my home city
commonly known as the “PAP Smears” defeat Stewy’s favorite team the
Essendon Bombers. Stewy was a star ruckman for the Canadian Kangaroos during the
recent USAFL/CDN Aussie rules Footy Carnival in Phoenix ’s.
During the evening Chris one of our
star Calgary Kangaroo’s players and current coach provided me with his
favorites for this Monday nights Brownlow Medal, the Best and Fairest Player in
the AFL.
Chris has gone for Gavin Wanganeen and Michael Voss to win with Nathan Buckley a real
chance. Both Gavin and Michael are past winners and proven vote getters with the
men in white or yellow I now see while it would be good to see Nathan Buckley a
absolute superstar for the Colliwobbles finally win the biggest individual award
in Australian sport. Stewy says Gavin has had a better year in the back pocket
for the PAPs than the year he won the Brownlow for the Essendon Bombers. Michael
Voss has again been sensational on the ball for the reigning premiers the
Brisbane Lions.
Chris’s other Brownlow Medal tips
include,
West Coast Eagles: Ben Cousins, Michael Pavlich, Peter Bell
Sydney Swans: Adam Goodes, Paul Williams the former Magpie Hawthorn: Shane
Crawford Crows: Brett
Burton.
This weeks tips I’m going for the
Colliewooble Magpies over the PAP’s and the Brisbane Lions to defeat the
Sydney Swans while Chris has gone for his beloved Swans. I’m sure my MYKwebTV
Cwoc stars Ms Winterpeg Tammy and Regina Cwoc Charlene will be both hoping the
Swans win. Tammy can be seen helping me with the AFL tips in “CFL Grey Cup
MYKwebTV” while the beautiful Charlene the winner of the best barmaid in
Canada gladly changed in my car into her Red & White Sydney Swans bikini for
me during a recent MYKwebTV filming day. Wow!
Next
weekend will be big as we watch the AFL Grand Final here in Canada and then us
Calgary Kangaroos take on the Irish guys in the 2nd Gaelic Football
game. We will be keen to win “their game” this weekend after narrowly
loosing 3 weeks ago to the Irish boys. If our star skipper Troy Rose plays we
will be a big chance. Let’s hope its not snowing next Sunday for the big
clash" Myk Aussie
Mon, Sept 15, 03 "Oh no the Crows done! Batman's AFL Finals report!"
Myk Aussie
From Batmans in
Melbourne, Myk
Aussie here we are again after another great weekend of AFL finals footy,
As I said last week the following games were on
AFL SEMI FINAL ONE: Port Adelaide vs Essendon (in Adelaide)
I went for Essendon in this one as they were in fine form, Their captain James
Hird is was on fire, and Port were in all sorts of trouble with their inability
to perform in finals! However, I was proven wrong, just when you give someone a
good wrap, they inevitably let you down, and that is what Essendon did, Port
came out with plenty of brimstone and fire in the opening flurry, the Bombers
tried to combat this with their own style of tough footy, but for a change, and
as per last years exact game, Port stood tall and in the end went on to record a
sound victory over a team that will have to go back to the drawing board, as
their coach Kevin Sheedy has done many times in his 18 years as their
mentor.
Port did what Fremantle didn't, they held Essendon's champion captain, James
Hird, to just seven possessions, and none were telling, Port stopped the heart,
and the Essendon body couldn't go on. Port now have a chance to get through to
the Grand Final, but they will have to get passed the Collingwood magpies, Port
Coach Mark Williams, and ex magpies captain will know too well that this will be
an even tougher game that the Essendon battle, but will feel much better with a
win under his teams belt, the mental battle begins today to get his team up for
next Saturday.
AFL SEMI FINAL TWO: Brisbane vs Adelaide (in Brisbane)
This was a very tough one to pick, there were two very experienced teams,
Brisbane had home ground advantage, but injury worries, Adelaide were in good
form, but have to go to the Lions den, I believed It was The Crows best chance,
but my better judgment said to pick Brisbane in a very tough encounter. I was on
the ball with this one, some of the Lions may have been injured, but a few pain
killer injections before the game, they came out and slowly mauled The
Crows.
The Crows were always playing catch up and the third qtr, (the premiership qtr)
was a beauty, the lead changed 5 times before The Lions stamped their roar on
the game, they were certainly the "kings of their jungle" in this
encounter, The Crows will fly home with their wings clipped and their ego's
brought back to earth, they are in a bit of trouble with an aging side of ex
champions to work with and will have to look seriously at who stays and who goes
next year.... that includes the coach! Brisbane on the other hand must now firm
up as the best pick for the flag, they showed that they should not be
underestimated, and as the winner of the last two premierships, they became
stronger as the night wore on, Sydney must again be on the back foot for this
upcoming encounter with the roaring Lions!
This
coming weeks games are
AFL PRELIMINARY FINAL ONE: Collingwood v Port Adelaide ( At MCG in Melbourne)
As is the case for both games this week it will once again it will be a knock
out game, loose and it is off for the end of season team trip. Win, and you have
a crack at winning the game that all teams are vying for "the AFL Grand
Final" Currently with home ground advantage you would have to go for the
magpies over Port, but in finals footy it all rarely matters, as it boils down
to what happens on the day, it is not the best of three or five etc, etc.
Collingwood have had the weeks rest after their great win against Brisbane two
weeks ago and they are fine tuning their strong team oriented approach to this
game, Port will have to play at their best, physically and mentally to beat the
pies, and after a great win over Essendon they would be confident, however I
will have to be totally biased and pick the mighty Collingwood magpies for this
one, they are quietly going about their business to secure a second crack at the
Grand final after loosing to Brisbane in last years 9 pt thriller. I think they
have proven that they were the 2nd best team last year, and this year they will
want to prove that they are no.1
AFL PRELIMINARY FINAL TWO: Sydney v Brisbane (in Sydney)
Well Sydney absolutely destroyed Port Adelaide in their encounter two weeks ago,
and received a well needed two week rest for this game against Brisbane, but in
achieving that win they still have major injury worries with 5 of their best
still in doubt for this week, and as we all know, this team has performed well
beyond even the most ardent fans expectations, this week will be no exception,
they have beaten the reigning champion 'Brisbane', twice this year in the home
and away games. However, as I said earlier, this is finals footy, and currently
there is no one better at it than Brisbane, who, as I described above are now
back into firm contention for their 3rd consecutive Grand Final, and not many
would dispute it. Sydney would have to put in a superhuman effort to beat the
lions, and in my position I can't see that happening so I will pick the Brisbane
Lions to have the Swans for din dins!
Once again what a great weekend of footy, and the way it has shaped up, this
week it is looking like a repeat of last years Grand Final, but,...a big but,
this is not a given! and the games will have supporters on the edge of their
seats, and at the end it will be down to 2! BRING
IT ON!!!!!" Batmans
"Thanks
Batman's another great AFL Footy Finals report" Myk Aussie

defeat the Magpies! Bombers defeat the Dockers! Well well well! It's AFL finals
footy again here in Oz! For the 1st time in the history of AFL/VFL, all the non
Victorian teams are in the finals!" Myk Aussie
An excellent report on the 1st week of the finals from Batmans in Melboure
Victoria being the origin of the AFL as the VFL, and being the premier football
state in the country for a 100years. Being a Victorian I may not necessarily
like it, but, it is good for football an a national level, so I say to one and
all......................

So
the way it works is the bottom 4 play off in the first week and the losers exit,
the top 4 play off and the losers play the winners of the bottom 4 and the
winners get a weeks rest!
Essendon v Fremantle
Game 1:
Fremantle in the finals for the first time had home ground advantage to host
Essendon, one of the premier Victorian teams, Unfortunately for Fremantle,
finals experience overcame them and Essendon were brutal in their demolition of
the inexperienced dockers! Playing hard tough footy the Bombers rolled the
dockers by 50+ points. The Bombers are flying high, and with their captain,
James Hird in sublime form, the other teams should not underestimate them.
Adelaide v West Coast
Game 2:
Adelaide, two time champions in the last 10 years, had the opportunity to host a
young and talented West coast team who have performed beyond expectation this
year. Both teams came into the finals in less than perfect form, but when the
finals start it is a whole new 'ball game' As in the 1st game, experience showed
through and The Crows easily accounted for The Eagles, and literally clawed them
into making poor choices with their disposals enabling The Crows to rebound and
capitalize with goals. The end result was a 56 pt win to The Crows! ....Watch
out for this team, they are experts at finals footy and on their day are
formidable.
Collingwood v Brisbane
Game 3:
Brisbane have won the Flag for the past two years, and are arguably the toughest
team in the competition, These two teams played off in the grand final last year
with The Lions rolling The Magpies by 9 pts. The Lions have one 8 of the last 9
encounters, but the young Magpies were pumped after a great win over The Bombers
in the last home and away game before the finals. This time The Magpies held on
all game in a thriller, that wasn't won until the last 5 mins when young Didak
broke Brisbane's back with two quick goals with less than 5 mins to go. The
Magpies get a weeks rest, which would have been vital for Brisbane, who have
several injury worries. But do not dismiss The Lions as they are the reigning
champions, and even when injured they can come out and maul any opposition.
Port Adelaide v Sydney
Game 4:
Port Adelaide have finished on top of the ladder for the second year in a row,
last year they went straight out of the finals with two poor losses, and are now
the team with the most pressure on them as they have only won 1 finals match in
seven appearances. Sydney were predicted to finish in the bottom half of the
ladder at the beginning of the year with a young team and a 1st year coach, they
have blown all away and are a genuine contender. Well sadly for Port Power they
were true to form and a magnificent Sydney blew them away in the 1st half to be
ahead by 40 points, the second half was a tough struggle with Port fighting back
and Sydney loosing players to injury, however Sydney manages to hold on in a
courageous effort by 12 points. Sydney have now proved themselves and all the
other teams best beware! Port are once again in all sorts of trouble as their
mental strength is more questionable than ever and other teams will have no
mercy!
There you have it two games true to form and experience and two upsets, with
Port losing it has thrown the whole playoffs into an unexpected draw, and this
coming week we will have two teams with a rest, Collingwood, and Sydney, Sydney
will especially need the rest to get several of their injured list back on the
park.
The games to be played are:
AFL SEMI FINAL ONE: Port Adelaide vs Essendon (in Adelaide)
I will have to go for Essendon in this one as they are in fine form, Their
captain James Hird is on fire, and Port are in all sorts of trouble with their
inability to perform in finals!
AFL SEMI FINAL TWO: Brisbane vs Adelaide (in Brisbane)
This is a very tough one to pick, two very experienced teams, Brisbane will have
home ground advantage, but injury worries, Adelaide are in good form, but have
to go to the Lions den, It is The Crows best chance, but against better judgment
I will pick Brisbane in a very tough encounter, where there will be some blood
spilled!!!!
What a great weekend of footy, and the way it has shaped up, the next two weeks
will have supporters on the edge of their seats, and also have them talking
about the many permutations of who will play who!
