Arena week Notes: 4/28/03...Cal Lee's Hawai'i now 3-1, leading the National
Conference standings...Norfolk's vaunted offence up in smoke w/ 3 straight week
performances...Moose will be in attendence, Sat. @ Scope in Norfolk, VA for
Nigthhawks game...A look to expansion in Arena League in the next two
yrs...Expect teams in Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Boston, New Orlean,
Columbus, Philadelphia, Oklanhoma City, San Francisco & Saint Louis in
either '04, '05 or '06...
No word on more expansion for arena2 yet, although Alaska has been rumored to in
in '05 & Iowa, Kurt Warner's team back in '06...I'll keep my ear to the rail
& report when I get more info on the greatest sport ever invented! How about
the star-crossed New York Dragons?...A day before the biggest game of the
season, QB Aaron Garcia goes out, gets drunk, rolls his car, has to have stitches
on his scalp & misses the game v. the Storm..un(friggin')believable!...His
replacement/Dragon QB of the future, Brent Petrus did OK, though...especially
running the ball...
But N.Y. still lost to league-leading Tampa, who is now 10-3 w/ three weeks to
go
in the regular season...Former Dolphin backup, Todd Doxzon was the #2 man @
pivot for N.Y. yesterday w/ rook John Church #3...Petrus used to be on N.Y.'s
practice squad the last two seasons...He started for Univ. of Cincinnati on
their basketball team, too...Keep an eye on him...Buffalo, behind former Univ.
of Hawai'i pivot Tim Carey is still in the playoff race w/ a win this past
weekend...especially w/ N.Y.'s loss...Jay Gruden continues to steer the Preds
toward a 1st round playoff bye & semi-final round home playoff game w/
another win, the Preds 3rd since "'lil Gruden" came back from a
fractured ankle, which cost him 5 games (Preds went 2-3
w/out him)...
Defensive stars of the week are Sai Pouleva'ati & my man Kelvin Kinney of
Virginia St. after their intimidating game v. N.Y...How about Jon Bon Jovi, who
Myk & I saw
@ Super Bowl week in San Diego...Jon went to his 3rs Arenaball game of the
season & was again in the front row Sun. on NBC's game of the week (until
NBC changed to the closer Dallas/L.A. game in the 4th qtr)...Two games back, in
L.A., Bon Jovi was in front row w/ Flutieball, who I just read about in Dan
Patrick's sleazy ESPN book @ Barnes & Nobles, here in Ches., VA...Bon Jovi
has also been in San Jose @ a game 5 weeks ago...
Maybe he's scheduling his tour schedule around arenaball?..Athiest-kook Glen
Parker, supposed studio analyst guy was out w/ food poisoning...Probably
shouldn't pull those oily croakers out of the Manhatten slip, Glen for you're
sushi...He was capably replaced by ex-New Jersey arena QB-stud Tommy Maddox, now
the starter for Pittsburgh in 'that outdoor league'...Kurt Warner did some
play-x-play
work in the 3rd quarter w/ Mike Breen & ex-Buffalo Destroyer coach Ray
Bentley, who are the #2 NBC game-day broadcast team...Condolences to NFL
Seattle QB Trent Dilfer & family on th loss of your 5-yr-old son...More
next week Bye-cycle!" Moose Salzer, MYKwebWORLD web Sports Caster

Week 14 Notes...How about the 25 point 4th qtr that saved John Elway's Crush, in
a stunning upset in Tampa Bay...Poor Carolina still w/ only an O.T. pt., on the
season?..Buffalo fast- fading from the playoff picture...New York Dragons
basically need to win out to make the post-season...Spent 17 enjoyable minutes
on The Team - 990, Sportsrage, Montreal, Friday night w/ Gabriel Morency talkin'
arenaball, AHL
...Jay Gruden was stylin' yesterday in The Jungle on Easter, w/ bro Jon &
the kids in the front row ...It's great to see so many Coaches / Players from
"that other league" groovin' to the Arena Game, in the house...Like
last week, Doug Flutie-ball was in Staples Centre diggin' L.A., even though they
got beat...Marty Lowe is my vote for Coach-of-the-yr., if the Force keep it
rollin'... Failed to mention on Sportsrage last Fri., however that Tampa is
still lookin' like the team to beat!

'03 VHSL season...He is currently head coach of the Hawai'i Islanders of
Arenafootball2...His brother Ron has been receiver's coach @ Univ. of Hawai'i
since I was there, 20 yrs. ago...Cal Lee has also been an assistant @ U H...
He is rumoured to be in line for the Defensive Coordinator job after the Af2
season, replacing Kevin Lempa, who took Univ. coaching job on the mainland after
Univ. of Hawai'i's 10-4 season in '02...Speaking of U H, I see our friend Wayne

Notes...Poor Mike Hold, Flint Fleming & Maurice Blanding, the coaching brain trust
@ Carolina...The Cobras lost their 11th game of the season, & 12th in a row
dating back to the playoff semi-final v. Arizona in '02...They did pick up an
O.T. point, however...How about the Preds w/ Jay Gruden back in the
lineup?..Stylin'!..They play Vegas this weekend on NBC...
Only Michael Irving seems to be trying...Why couldn't NBC get Eli Gold, Jill
Arrington & Charles Davis in there?..They have been doing the arena games on
TNN the last four seasons & knew what they were talking about...The
production
values of the broadcasts & game-day teams of Tom Hammonds & Pat Haden
have been superb, however...The ratings will go back up now that the March
Madness is over with.....
Buffalo's offense has been stumbling since they have been using reserve QBs
w/out regular Jeff Loots in the lineup...The sand may be running out of Loots
hourglass on his Arena QB career, however...He's been in the league 10 seasons
& keeps getting hurt or has been a back-up...he's now on his 7th team,
too...
Dallas has come back to earth after the schedule has gotten tougher, but QB Jim
Kubiak still continues at a high level...5 all-time records fell yesterday as
L.A.
lost @ Staples Centre in an O.T. shootout w/ Danny White's Rattlers'...23 TDs,
2nd most points ever in a Pro game, two QBs both throwing for 9 TDs each in a
game, 7 onside kicks, two missed FGs on L.A.'s last drives on game, 7 players
injured...whew!..What a game: Final - Arz. 82, L.A. 76...& to top it off,
Doug Flutie in attendence... Sideline Ace reporter Lew Johnson had a great
interview w/ Flute-man in the 4th quarter...
Jon Bon Jovi there, too...Both were guests of owner Casey
Wasserman...Flutie says he loves Arenaball & watches it on T.V...
Says he loves the fact that players play offence/defense & special teams
...New York w/ great QB, Aaron Garcia clawing it's way back into playoff
contention w/ 4 wins in last five...Mike Furrey or L.A.'s Mike Hopkins
making strong bids for Ironman of yr. or Offensive MVP...Don't forget
gamer-winner by Arizona's Hernandez 'Hunkee' Cooper, also...More next week

"If, as the logic goes, the NFL is number 1, since it's the biggest league
out there (over 1600+ players participate in it every season; 50 players (at
least) per team X 32 teams = 1600), then the CFL would be next
w/ over 500 players (40 per team at a time X 9 teams, Then the Ar.fl w/ 400+
players (16 teams X 24 per squad, like in Hockey) then why would we worry about
AAA leagues like NFL E & Af2 you might wonder.
They have proven out to be fine developmental leagues who have produced some
good players for the top three leagues. Simply as that. Players fall threw the
cracks. Well get ready Hawai'i for an advert. @ Blaisdell
Center for Moose, Myk & Super Bowl Wayne Lavelle & company @ Kumu2 / AM
1500. I HAVE REACHED AN AGREEMENT that will be mutually beneficial for us &
the Af2 Hawai'i Islanders, too.
The lovely Rachel of the Islanders is going to provide MykAussie.com, Moose-man
& Super Bowl times.com w/ a dasher board advert @ a reasonable price for the
season. Moose is also getting media accreditation for the home games he can
make. The Islanders are currently 2-0 & in 1st place in the Amer. Conf. West
of the arenafootball2 league & I'm hoping they will host the 4th Arena Cup
in Aug.
Listen to Moose Salzer, Super Bowl Wayne, Johnny Miro, Scott Ka'alele & my
man Randy Myamoto every other Sun. @ 6:33pm on Kumu 2 / AM 1500 (that's 12:33pm,
EST) for Footy (indoors & out!) & all things Sports!
In other Arena Footy news, former Arizona Rattler speedster Chris Horn has
signed w/ Rose's Kansas City Chiefs & will probably be the kick returner
this season. He left the Rattlers 2 weeks ago.
Aaron Garcia, who has 500 career TDs & 25,600+ yds. in the arena league had
a great article about him in the Sporting News two issues back: "... In the
Arena Football League its quarterbacks must make quick decisions and sling the
ball into tight spots while at the risk of being pureed in the pocket. The
league's most prolific passer du jour, current New York QB, Aaron Garcia (no
relation-Moose), broke of Iowa Barnstormers records of Kurt Warner. Garcia also
threw an uncontainable 112 TDs in 14 1/2 games in 2001 for New York. But can
Aaron, like Warner & Tommy Maddox, go from amazing Arena productivity to
playing & shining in the
NFL (or for that matter, the CFL-Moose)? Strengths: Shows an accurate arm w/
good strength. Knows how to get rid of the ball quickly & accurately. Is a
fiery competitor. Sees the entire field well. Goes for the big play. Bottom
line: W/ Garcia's numbers, he deserves a shot in the NFL, BUT as w/ all
experienced Ar.FL QBs, if it's his time, it must be now.
The NFL used the Dallas Desperados players of the Ar.FL as guinea pigs last week
as they tested a laser light for measuring 1st downs in an effort to get rid of
the 'chain gang' guys. 72-yr-old Pat Summerall, who
won a Championship ring w/ the (get this) '47 Chicago Cardinals(!), & who
John Madden's partner for 21 seasons on CBS & Fox likes the idea & says
it's time has come. Sounds like another gimmick to me." Moose

Ar.FL week 12 notes:..3rd-string QB Chris Sander replaced injured 2nd- stringer,
former Univ. of Hawai'i QB, Tim Carey & passed for 5 TDs in Buffalo's must
win over divisional rival New York...1st-string Destroyer QB Jeff Loots is 3-4
weeks away from returing to the lineup...WR/LB Will Pettis 2 yd. TD run w/ 22
sec(s) remaining allowed the Desperados to eek out a win @ home over defending
Champion San Jose...Dallas will be in Indianapolis, IN. this weekend Sat. v.
Firebirds, who I saw lose a great game, Sat., 4/5 v. Grand Rapids...Met some
great fans in Indy, home of both the racecar Hall-of-Fame & NCAA men's
basketball Hall-of-Fame(s)...
I took a picture of the great Baseball Stadium & Conseco Fieldhouse Sat.
too...I gave out some of my new business cards as well as mykaussie's... I
visited the office of the baseball Indianapolis Indians, a great farm club for
that other great farm club known as the Milwaukee Brewers...Q- How can a minor
league team have another minor league team?..Oh, back to arenaball...The Hawai'i
Islanders won their 2nd straight game, off now to a 2-0 start in the Cal Lee
Era, Fri. night in Moline, Ill. @ the Mark over 2000-01 Champions, the Quad City
Steamwheelers, owned by Jim Foster who started the Arena Football League back in
'87, when Moose wasn't even shaving every day yet...
Had a great 12 minutes tour-de-force on the radio w/ Super Bowl Wayne LaVelle,
Johnny Miro & Big Scott Ka'alele on AM 1500/ KUMU 2 Sports Radio Sun/Mon. AM
@ 12:33-12:45, EST...Gave out the mykaussie.com/mykWebT.V e-address several
times...We talked to the lovely Dede Desoto, the Sports matchmaker...She asked
me what I look for most in a woman (we're talking dating here, gents...). I
answered, "a pulse of course!"..Seriously, though Dede, Scott, Wayne,
Johnny & I had a great time talking about how hard, from guys & girls
standpoint it is to date someone who works sports, ostensibly for a
living...I've got a great idea, I believe...If Dede is single herself, maybe she
& I can meet when I come to the rock next time to see the Islanders v. my
Norfolk Nighthawks in the Arena Cup, Aug...Otherwise I probably will go back to
Hawai'i w/ Myk in Feb. '04 for my sixth Pro Bowl...
Yes, Virginia we may have lost Nate Ilaoa to the Univ. of Hawai'i but our arena2
low- budget, tight (Ken Easley) fisted Nighthawks have actually won a season
opener w/ basically the same low budgeted crew (Ken McDaniel, Jay Clarke
Anthony Stringfield, etc, yawn...)This is the 1st time in Af2's short lived
history that the Nor'hawks finallyyyy won the season opener...They should...w/
the best coach in arenafootball2, former Milwaukee Mustang head sideline
boss/ex-Toronto Phantoms ASt.H.Coach/defencive coordinator Rick Frasier @ the
helm they'll be no letdowns as in the Dietrich Wise/ Tony Missick one-yr.
eras...
Cal & Rick are terrific coaches, I fully expect Cal to get a call from U. of
Hawai'i since defensive coordinator Kevin Lempa has left for a college coaching
job on the mainland, after the Islanders season is over...Thanks to SuperBowl
Wayne & the crew for putting' up w' me & I'm on the air w' them again
12:30am Mon. in two
weeks...Thanks to Matt, Claire, Kelly & Vince...I met them @ the Firebirds
game in Indianapolis Sat. night when I went to see my VA. cousin, OL/DL Chris
Snyder, who played his high scholl 'ball @ Indian River H.S. & College 'ball
@ Penn St. for Joe P...Hey Chris, Scott Baxter, Mark Sawyer & Jimmy Morrison
say hello...More next week & check that schedule of ours here on the site as
Myk & Moose may be doing a gig near you...Mahalo & Aloha!" Moose
