Update! Focus on the amazing Dallas Mavericks! Andrea Bargnani player
spotlight! California Hoops! NCAA Results and radio report on March Madness!"
Moose Salzer and Michele DeWalt
From Michele "The Dallas Mavericks are hot
as Mike Modano right now and have won 18 straight NBA games setting a
franchise record! Since losing the NBA Championship last June after leading
the series 2-0, on some of the worst officiating of all time, the Mavs of
Coach Avery Johnson have been on a tear all season. The Mavs have the
best record in the NBA and have been it's top seed all year. A
'shaven-headed' and focused Dirk Nowitszki has been burning up the track as
they are the favorites to win it all this year. Recently v. the Suns, Clippers
and Lakers, three playoff teams from the Western Conference, who were in the
dance last year, the Mavericks showed much depth and style as they continue to
win, win, win. With an improved roster of Nowitszki, G Gee Terry and reserves
like Austin Croshere (no longer french for Mike Dunleavy, Jr.), the Mavs are
the team to beat in the race for the 61st NBA Championship.
Player Spotlight: Andrea
Bargnani, F, Toronto Raptors, Italy. 6'11.5", 246 lbs. Born: Oct. 26th, 1985.
Favorite Player: San Antonio's Manu Ginobilli. Favorite Band: Cheap Trick.
Bargnani has been a real big help to Canadian Matt Bonner and all-star F Chris
Bosh, as Coach Sam Mitchell's Raptors have surprised everybody and look to
make the playoffs for only the third time in their team's history. The Raptors
may have the lowest winning percentage in NBA history (.325%) but that'll
change soon.
California Hoops: Clippers,
Lakers, Warriors get badly needed wins this weekend. Lakers Kobe Bryant,
coming off his second suspension of the season (he's elbowed three white guys
this year and the league has him under a microscope now), scored 65 points
last night in the Lakers win. The Clippers blew out the Carolina Bobcats,
102-89, and the Bobcats announced they won't be utilizing Bernie Bickerstaff
at Coach next year. Team
Executive Mike Jordan said
Bernie's place in the organization is safe (why?!), but he'll be in the front
office next year. Bickerstaff, a young quality Assistant Coach back in the
'70's in three NBA Finals with Washington (one win - '78), has been fatigued
lately. It's their own fault for investing so much in Mr. No Defence, Adam
Morrison! The Clippers are injured only slightly less than the Lakers and the
Warriors are right now in eighth place, two games behind the Lakers and a half
percentage point (!) ahead of the Clippers. Expect only one of these teams
(probably Clippers) to make the playoffs, as Denver's one-name wonder Nene' (I
thought that was a Hawai'ian goose, state bird?!) has finally stayed healthy
to go with Al Iverson and Carmello (he isn't 'Mello) Anthony. The Minnesota
T'Wolves are also in the race." Michele DeWalt

Update - Clippers within striking distance of the Lakers for second in
Pacific,
ESPN's Dick Vitale to the Basketball Hall of Fame, in Springfield,
Massachusetts!" Michele DeWalt
First, California Hoops: The Sacramento Kings (Not Queens, Shaq!) must have
read Rich Salzer's report here the last few weeks. They woke up and whipped
the Los Angeles Lakers, who have lost 6 out of their last 9 games. The win
also pushed them one full game ahead of slumping Golden St (Oakland) into four
place in the Pacific West Division. The Phoenix Suns got a big boost from
ex-Clipper Eric Piatkowski Friday night in their win over slumping Indiana,
who the Clippers beat last night in L.A.'s magnificent Staples Centre. Pike
may have only hit three 3's on the night, but he torched tall Mike Dunleavy,
Jr. (the six-foot ten-and-a-half) 'power-guard' of the Pacers for 11 crucial
points in the fourth quarter.
Pike played nearly the whole fourth quarter in the backcourt with two- time
League M.V.P. Steve (Canadian-Flash) Nash(vegas) and held Dunleavy, Jr., who
is three inches taller than himself to two points in the fourth. I am
surprised Pike has been in Coach Mike D'antoni's doghouse most of the season.
In 59 games, though totally healthy for the first time in four seasons, since
he left the Clippers via F/A-cy, Pike has gotten into only four games. He hit
a three at the familiar Staples Centre stripe four games ago with 1:25 left in
the fourth, giving him a share of 22nd all-time in NBA history, tied with a
player much like himself, Mr. J. Craig Ehlo, Mike Jordan's old buddy, from the
Mars Blackmon poem.
Around the League: Division
Leaders: Eastern Conference: Atlantic, Toronto (Sam Mitchell for Coach of the
Year!), Southeast, Washington (Gilbert Arena for League

Dallas, (2) Phoenix, (3) San Antonio, (4) Utah, (5) Houston, (6) L.A. Lakers,
(7) Los Angeles Clippers, (8) Denver. More next week. ESPN's Dick Vitale is
headed to the Naismith Pro Basketball Hall-of Fame. Vitale, who won 200 games
for the University of Detroit, Coached the Pistons for two years at the end of
the Nineteen Seventies (won 51 games). Vitale, born with one eye, averaged
4.4. pts. per game in College playing on the same Villanova teams with Roland
'Rollie' Massamino (2.2 pts.). Massamino later Coached Villanova and his son,
R.C. played point guard there as well.
Vitale, Chris Berman and Dan Patrick are the last three original ESPN 1979
hires. Vitale is known for his coverage of NCAA basketball and his sayings
like "Yea, Babeeeee!" When Vitale took over the Pistons, he was an obscure
announcer, the bald basketball guru then started a trend later imitated by the
Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, as Dan Issel and Pat Riley,
respectfully, former players for those teams, later became Coaches as well,
after serving apprenticeships as first announcers. Way to go Dickee Vee!"

Michele De Walt
The Los Angeles Clippers beat
the cross-state rival Golden (St.) Warriors, 103-90 without starting Centre
Chris Kaman and reserve Andrei Korolev in attendance. Elton Brand, who missed
his first career All-star game two weeks ago. In the League's scoring race,
Denver's Carmello Anthony (30.4) is up one point on Washington's Gilbert
Arenas (29.4), who gets mine and Rich Salzer's vote as the current most
exciting player in the NBA.
The Sacramento Kings are still in a slump but the Lakers got their first win
in the last six games as they got by the slumping Boston Celtics (where's Red
Auerbach when you need him?!), 122-96 two nights ago. In the Western
Conference, the Clippers, Lakers, Phoenix, with ex-Clipper Eric Piatkowski,
Dallas, Minnesota, San Antonio, Denver, and Houston continue to hang onto the
eight playoff spots. In the East, Surprising Toronto, New Jersey, Washington,
Indiana, Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago hold down the playoff seedings as of
this week's report." Michele De Walt

From Michele "The Western Conference behind

was held there. MYKwebTV's Rich Salzer was there at the All-star game last
Feb. 19th, 2006 in Houston, TX. Los Angeles Clippers Power Forward Elton J.
Brand missed his first All-star game in nine NBA seasons and is inured for the
slumping Clippers (1-3 in their last four games, but still in eighth place for
a playoff spot in the West). But the Lakers, despite Phil Jackson's recent
induction into the Naismith Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, and Bryant's Allstar
game heroics, have lost four in a row.
In fact all the California
teams are in a slump. The Clippers, despite Brand's injury have moved to
within three games of the Lakers in the second spot in the NBA Pacific
Division. Duke Coach Mike Kyzyzewski (pronounced 'She-Chef-skee) is now at 743
wins in his twenty-seven year NCAA Career. He started with the US Army Team

Clippers tie franchise record! Celtics hit new low! Myk says Bill Romo's new awesome Pure Romo
Nutrition is unreal!"
Michele De Walt
Sacramento got great Centre
Brad Miller back on I.R. and this should help down the stretch, as they claw
their way out of the West's cellar of the Pacific Division. Miller is a career
4.7 assist per game man and the best passing centre in the NBA today. The Best
since ex-Clipper / Celtic/ Blazer Bill Walton (5.1)
The Los Angeles Clippers
closed to within 3.5 games of their cross-town rivals, the L.A. Lakers in the
Pacific West standings. Both teams are still behind League leading Phoenix!
The Clippers have tied a franchise record with their 6th win in the last 7
games. Something that has been done 8 times in club history, in a win in
Boston last night (for the Celtics more dubious record, see below)
Remembering players of the
past, Atlanta/Milwaukee's Sid Monciref, and Paul Mokeski (who later plaed for
the San Antonio Spurs) were two of the more colorful & likable players of the
1980's - especially when 'big Mo' kicked Charles (blabbermouth) Barkley's fat
racist butt up and down the court in a memorable fight. Barkley went ring less
after 16 NBA seasons and was one of the most overrated players in League
history. And he calls himself a 'legend?'
More dubiousness. It's a good thing Celtics great Red Auerbach has passed on
in this sense; the Celtics, who were blown out by the Clippers in Boston last
night, have now lost 14 consecutive games and are a dismal 13-34.
Is it really too late to bring
back Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale, Rick Pitino?
In case you missed it, the
Clippers won their franchise 1,300th game, in their 37th season. They have
made the playoffs seven times and had .500
or better records 11 times. They really never were as bad as the so called
'experts' said they were. It's just been a tough ride for them in Los Angeles.
MYKwebTV's Rich Salzer and I
still say that the most exciting player in the loop right now is not LeBron
James or Carmello Anthony but Washington's Agent '0', Gilbert Arenas, the guy
who can play three positions equally well and throws his jerseys in the crowd
after most home wins. A class act but needs to not get into fights with women
in Miami clubs in the off-season. To be fair, she hit Gilbert, not the other
way around. Was the women thinking she was so hot that Gilbert had to buy her
a drink?" Michele De Walt

Update! Elton Brand Sportsman of the Year (2006) in California! Some
Team-by-Team Reviews before the upcoming All-star Game, in Las Vegas, Feb
17th, 2007! Myk says Bill Romo's new awesome Pure Romo
Nutrition is unreal!"
Moose Salzer
California NBA Pro Hoops:
(1) Los Angeles Clippers - The California Pro Sports Association has named
Clippers F Elton J. Brand as their 2006 California Sportsman of the Year. The
NBA named Brand it's Joe Dumars Award Winner. Brand was the second Clipper to
at least get a share of the Award since 2003. No other NBA team has had one
player win the award more than once. The irony is that Brand will probably
miss the NBA all-star game for the first time in his nine-yr., career. There
needs to be sometime done to improve the system of the NBA's (and NFL's Pro
Bowl) voting when any hintz or kuntz can go onto a computer and vote often and
long for their favorite player, whether he deserves to be voted for or not
(for example why should Miami has been Centre Shaquille O'Neal be a starter
for the Eastern Conference when he has played exactly five games all year?).
Brand is a serious M.V.P. Candidate (again, like last year) and he will miss
the All-star game, based on the vote totals now.
Commissioner (?) Dave Sterngang needs to make an adjustment on the process. Go
to Paper Ballots, I say. People have ragged on T. (The) Donald Sterling,
Clippers Owner for years, but I say the man deserves a lot of credit for
hiring the right players and most recently rehiring Coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr.
(in recent years), who just got his contract reupped for another three years.
Elton Brand may not like this either, but it appears his former
Duke mate and current Clipper teammate, Corey Maggette may not be with
the team after the Allstar break. The rumors going around have Maggette going
to Phoenix for ex-Clipper Eric Piatkowski and Centre Pat Burke, the only
Irish-born player in NBA history. We'll see. Despite the fact that the Clips
have now won five in a row, he just doens't seem to fit in with Chris
Kaman, Brand, rejuvenated point guard Sam Cassell, Cutino Mobley and Tim
Thomas. His shot is starting to go. He just has never adjusted well to the
bench, since Piatkowski played his option as a free agent three years ago.
There just is no room for him in the starting lineup - Quint Ross just plays
too good a 'D'. Now over to the other team in Los Angeles:
(2) L.A. Lakers - Kobe Bryant
will have no trouble making the All-star game, but his team is skating on thin
ice for the playoff stretch run, if they think the Centre tag-team of
Brown/Bynum is going to take them very far. Shaq really never should have left
this team and it's too late to get him back. He's 40 lbs. overweight and the
feud between he and Kobe is back on again, albeit a slow burn. Bryant recently
said that Bynum could be the next Shaq (When? In a hundred yrs?)(?)! Luke
Walton and Bryant, both their dads' used to play for the Clippers in San Diego
in the '80's, are the teams best players and two Croats, Vlad Radmonovic and
Zelko Rebraca, both of whom played for the Clippers last year are starting to
come around. Both Brand kills another ex-Clipper, lefty Lamar Odom every time
he plays him.
I did like the gesture last year when Laker fan Jack Nicholson flew in his
private plane to Phoenix last spring to watch the Clippers go the distance (7
games) v. Steve Nash
and Co after Kobe and Lakers imploded after going up, 3-1 in the series early.
A lot of fans don't know this but the Lakers have lost a whopping 10 NBA
Championship Series! They are 14-10 lifetime but only 9-10 in L.A. They won
five in six years with the late George Mikan in Minneapolis in the '50's.
It'll be a struggle to make the playoffs in either the 7th or 8th spot, like
last year if the Clippers continue to roll down the stretch.
(3) Golden St. - Coach of the
Year Candidate Don Nelson (ex-of New York/Milwaukee/Dallas and Golden St.,
1989-95) has really gone out on a limb with the recent 4for4 trade with
Indiana. It's backfired so far and the red-hot Clippers have climbed back in
front of the Warriors and are within striking difference of the Lakers now in
third place. Golden st., when the Clips and Suns were tied for first back in
Nov. was in second place. But by trading too much to the Pacers (why did they
throw Troy Murphy, who has averaged about 10 rebounds a game into the mix, as
the fourth wheel in the deal?)!
Point-power guard Baron Davis (ex-of New Orlean/Oklahoma City) has reverted
into the selfish and now brutal player. David recently was suspended for one
game for attacking the Clippers two guards, Quint Ross and Shaun Livingston
in a game about a week ago. Davis slugged Livingston, who looks about 16 years
old and went after Ross for a semi-hard foul. Not to mention that recently
acquired head case Steve Jackson got arrested for two violations two days
after coming over from Indy! I mean, Jamieson/Davis/Granger/Jackson looks good
on paper, but don't now expect the Warriors in the playoffs or to have a
winning record for the first time since Nellie was hear in '95! They'll
be lucky to stave off...
(4) Sacramento. The Kings
Coach Eric Musselman, son of ex-ABA/NBA Coach, the volatile Bill Musselman
(r.i.p.) has pleaded gulity to a plea bargained reckless driving charge
(instead of driving while intoxicated) and will serve Community Service in the
off-season. Musselman, the younger did pretty well for the Warriors as Coach
several years ago, until replace by 'that College guy', Mike Montgomery. Ron
Arrest, er, ah, Artest is back in the lineup from the I.R. and the team's best
player remains Mike Bibby. But this team misses Chris Webber badly in middle.
Maybe they can bring back flaky Scott Pollard? C-Web recently signed with
Detroit and fans, don't forget he was part of the Fab Five frosh starting
squad there for Michigan back in 1991. The Kings will fight it out with
Golden St. [really Oakland] for the Pacific West Cellar.
Around the rest of the Loop:
The poor New Jersey Nets may have lost three one- point games in California
last week, but they did it with style! The recently divorced Jason Kidd (his
ex-wife, the Bud-lite girl must miss Spuds McKenzie - or it is it Spud Webb?!)
lead a furious Nachbar-three-point-induced comeback v. the Clippers Thursday
night on TNT. Announcing were Steve (Greatest lebanese player in NBA history)
Kerr [unless you prefer Rony Seikaly?!] and Marv (the left handed toupee/
backbiter) Albert. The Clippers were up by 21 at the half but Jersey aided by
4 for 5 three point shooting by Croat Nachbar and some nifty play by
ex-Toronto Raptors (no more!) Vince (Softy) Carter, went up by two with 5
seconds left.
The Nets lost when Sam (I Am)
Cassell backed (the) Kidd down low and rifled a pass back out cubano Cutino
Mobely, the lefty who swished a three to give
the Clips the lead back for good, with 0.06 left on the clock, 102-101. It
was a bad week, or make that 'weak' for poor Opie Frank, the Nets cute Coach,
who looks like he and Clippers point forward/ power guard Livingston should be
back in high school! Frank's troops lost by one to: (1) Sacramento, followed
by a one point loss to (2) Golden St., followed by the loss to the Clippers
two night later. It was one of the best games I've seen on TNT in a long
while. It was the Clips fourth in a row. The Division Leaders around the
League's other divisions: Eastern Conference: Atlantic - Toronto, for only the
second time in club history (they have the lowest winning percentage in
NBA history, so far), Southeast - Washington, for all the hooting and
hollering are only 25-17, Central - Detroit, followed closely by Cleveland,
'Rest of the West', Northwest: Utah, and Southwest - Dallas. Expect only one
California team of the 4 to make the playoffs." Moose

tandom continues to plug up the middle. Both should be 4 spots not Centres.

renamed 'Energy Solutions Arena'. A controversial deal there in Utah!
Mike Gminski, formerly of Duke
and who played 14 years in the NBA, averaged an unconscionable 40.7 pts. per
game in High School (Masuk, Monreo, Connecticut), breaking Calvin Murphy's
former mark of 40.3. Murphy, who many remember played for both the San Diego
and Houston Rockets (1968-81). Gminski's H.S. team set a US record of 52
straight wins. Clarence (Big House) Gaines won 828 games as Coach at Winston-
Salem St. College. He was the first black-American Coach to be named NCAA
Coach of the Year. Black history month is coming up next month and instead of
worrying about Barak Obama, a phony, let's concentrate on real men who REALLY
accomplished something FOR ALL OF US! Mr. Gaines died last year at aged 81 in
his sleep. R.I.P., 'Big House'!
The Los Angeles Clippers found
out in a hurry recently they really have a tiger-by-the-tail in the
up-and-coming Golden St. Warriors of ever inventive Don Nelson! The Clippers
lost back-to-back games to the Warriors as Elton Brand, a clear choice for
possible MVP honours this year, is just not getting enough touches...I know
Corey Maggette is his friend, but look for Clips Coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr., to
make a trade for another Defencive minded player (Eric Piatkowski, who is
rotting on the League leading Suns bench?) before the Allstar break. Speaking
of allstars, everybody knows how much I love Elton Jon Brand, and how appalled
I was when the Clippers almost Kobe (No Defence) Bryant two years ago. I could
see Myk cringe, too!
Last Wednesday the Lakers G.M.
is alledged to have called 'The Man of a Thousand (Mediocre?) Moves, teflon
Clips V.P./G.M. Elgin Baylor, and offered Bryant, one-on-one for Brand...was
he kidding? Baylor is said to have angrily slammed down the phone after
screaming, "No way!" If true, Elgin definitely earned that NBA Executive of
the Year award last year! I can't see the Clips giving up a potential MVP
Candidate for a wild 'scorer-from-the-wing'. Bryant is too small to fit in
with the Clips at either the 3 or 2 position and can't play well enough on
Defence. Really, where would he start? Would the Clips really want to bench
Cubano Cutino Mobely? Or Shaun Livingston, who has like 15 more years to play
in the NBA? Please don't EVER trade Elton, Don Sterling or Baylor! It was bad
enough Pitatkowski will probably not finish his career with Los Angeles!
Coby and George Karl Update. Most all you folkes out there know that George
Karl is the current H.Coach of the Denver Nuggets, who have made two
real good trades recently, acquiring Allen Iverson from the
'Dead-in-the-water' 76ers and getting former Maryland turtle, er, ah,
Terrapin, Steve (Def-Con...his shots are radio active!) Blake. Together for
the first time last night, Iverson scored his Nugget (so far) high of 32
points and Blake, v. his old teammates scored 25 points. Poor Andrew Bogut is
playing strictly Centre this year and not doing as well in his second season
in the loop. Obviously his game is starting to be figured out by the better
Defencive players in the League. If he doesn't back you in, he tries to pass
to the corners or down low and has not shown much improvement in his footwork
- yet.
For the Aussie Andrew Bogut MYKwebTV interview
that Myk Aussie did from the 05 US Aussie Rules Footy Nationals in Milwaukee Click here
The scuttlebut going around in whispers is that the Bucks, just to make him
feel at home might bring in 7'2" Kiwi (who grew up Aus) Luke Schensscher, who
got cacked in Chicago as the last player cut. Schenscher and Sun E. Piatkowski
were mates in the windy city and played a pretty good two man game when they
were in the lineup togther. But when Pike left via free agency this past year
for $3.4/mil on a two year deal to sit on Steve Nash's team's bench, Schescher
was lost in the full-court Offence the Bulls now play with new VA Centre Ben
Wallace. Terry Stotts Bucks play more of a half court game and getting a
bigger player will allow Bogut to go back to the 4-spot and he'll be back in
action scoring more again as 7' Forwards don't grow on trees.
Recently there was a good article on the Nuggets H.Coach's son, Coby Karl, a
6'4" G from Boise St. Coby was named after George Karl's old friend, Coby
Dietrick, a 13-yr., ABA- NBA'r who played alongside George in San Antonio in
the '70's. Dietrick, a 6'11", 234 lb'r averaged 6.1 pts., 4.9 rebs., 3 assists
and 1.04 blcks per game in his pro career and lead the ABA in shooting
percentage (.640%) in the playoffs in '74-'75, the year Kentucky won the ABA
title for Hubie Brown (74-10 regular season record, all-time Pro Best). Coby
Karl recently survived a cancer scare and George himslef had colen cancer
several years ago as well. Coby was Lymph node cancer. Both are the deadliest
to survive. These tough s.o.b.s deserve our best wishes. I know George can be
a bit hard to take, but he's one of us! A gamer!
Rest in Peace Arnold 'Red' Auerbach!
Arnold 'Red' Auerbach died quietly in his sleep of heart
failure last month right after Christmas. He was 89. Auerbach played all four
years of NCAA basketball for Coach Bob Reinhardt at George Washington
University in the late '40's. The Brooklyn, New York native was one
for Pro Basketball's first great innovators. Auerbach took over
the Washington Capitols (Later Boston Celtics) franchise under owner Walter
Brown, who basically gave Red free reign to run the club lock, stock and
barrell. Auerbach drafted the first black player, and
the Celtics had the first black starter in NBA history in Chuck 'Tarzan'
Cooper.
The Celtics then had the first all-black starting lineup and the first black
H.Coach, and Player-Coach in Bill Russell. They also had the first black
general manager. In the 1980's the Celtics had the only team in the NBA to
have eight white players, and they won three more Championships, lead by Larry
Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Bill Walton, who they acquired from the Los
Angeles Clippers for ex-Championship." Moose Salzer

Western Conference: It'll be a
long season for the Los Angeles Clippers if they don't get all their guys
healthy soon. No, they probably won't have a losing season, but with Golden
St. (Oakland) playing above their heads with goody John Madden-like Don
Nelson's five forward/three Centre alignments, the Warriors are having their
best year since they last made the playoffs in 1995, which coincidently was
the last year Nelson Coached them. This is his third stint Coaching them. He's
also Coached Milwaukee, Dallas, New York and San Antonio.
Eastern Conference:
Washington. This is getting scary! If Gilbert Arenas, the Wiz' G/F doesn't cut
this out, maybe he WILL win MVP this year. Arenas, easily Washington's best
player, scored 34 points as the Wizards beat my beloved Clippers, 114-99 three
nights ago. Arenas has averaged 34 points per game in his last eight games and
is averaging 22 per game this season, a career high.
The Philadelphia 76ers just
rehired former Coach Larry Brown (2003-1997) as Director of Football
Operations, Ast.V.P. and 'shadow' General Manager to Billy Knight. The muich
traveled Brown, from Manhatten, has also Coached the Los Angeles Clippers
(1994-92), the New York Knickerbockers (2006-05), the Detroit Pistons
(2005-03, two NBA Championship appearances, one win), the Indiana Pacers
(1997-94), the San Antonio Spurs (1992-88) the the New Jersey Nets (1983-81),
the Denver Nuggets (1979-76) and the old ABA Carolina Cougars (1976-73, when
he was a 'player-Coach'. Brown has the highest number of wins in Pro
Basketball history, but nowhere near the winning percentage of the top 15
Coaches in NBA history.
Brown has been fired by six teams (one in the NCAAs) and is regarded as a kook
by some (check out Dan Issel's 'Parting
Shots', a real good basketball book, I reviewed
at
Amazon.com for more) and a
vagabond, a maddening
perfectionist who can't own up to his own many flaws, which is why he has
never stayed in one place too long. A year after he lead the Clippers to the
playoffs, back in 1993, he was fired when he and owner 'The Donald Sterling
almost got into a fight after Brown lost the final game of '94 and the
Clippers finished 41-41 and didn't make the playoffs in his second year
there." Moose

The Los Angeles Clippers won their third game in row yesterday when MVP
Candidate Elton Brand blocked a franchise record 8 shots. This ties Elton's
career high again. The Clippers blew out the fLakers, Rockets and Boston in
the last three games to get right back in the playoff race. Across town in
'La-La-Land, Kobe Bryant, G/F for those cross City rivals of America's team,
has been on fire lately as well! Kobe torched Utah for 52 points two weeks
ago, right before Christmas and is pushing Brand for co-MVP honors.
It'll be a better race to the finish than the last few years for the Clips and
Lakers as the Lakers have been well below the Clippers the last few years as
the number two team in 'Lost Angels', as Paul Hogan called L.A. in the movie
Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. The Clips, and those other guys home, the
Staples Centre got a nice arial shot in the movie, which I think is his best
yet! But back to the NBA; the League's oldest player, venerable Cliff Robinson
of Jason, the Kidd's New Jersey Nuclear swamp-Nets is out indefinitely with
shin splints, so to speak. Robinson may also get his left knee

I
think it is a load of rubbish that a team gets criticized for trying to bury a

Aussie Sports guys like me. Seems certain people in North American sports
"lately" think that its bad. This was also was the case in a CFL game this
year when the Bombers coach "crazily" was not happy that the Montreal
Alouettes buried them. What if you relax and do as the Knicks coach wanted and
then you loose? Bury your opposition at every chance is the way it has always
been in Australian Rules Football and its the way it should be in any game of
sport! Kids games? hmmm maybe, maybe not." Myk
From Moose "Virginia's Allen Iverson was traded for three players and a draft
pick from Coach Maurice Cheek's Philadelphia 76ers to the Denver Nuggets
yesterday in a deal necessitated by the Nuggets having overrated Carmelo
Anthony and three other players suspended from the recent brawl in Madison
Round Garden (it ain't square!) v. troubled Isiah Thomas New York
Knickerbockers.
Anthony will miss 14 more games without pay, G Nate Robinson of New York 9
more, Denver G J.R. Smith nine more, New York G Marty Collins, five more, New
York F Jared Jeffries, three more, and Denver F Jerome (Nene) James 1 game.
Lameduck Commissioner Dave Stern (any relation to Howard?), who is rumoured to
be on the way out anyway, issued the League's stiffest monetary penalty
in League history, $500,000 to each team and put Isiah Thomas, who is skating
on thin ice anyway, on notice. Denver F Carmello Anthony, who was
ejected from the Nuggets, 4-1 games playoff loss in the first round to the Los
Angeles Clippers last year, is falling apart and continues to backslide. The
Nuggets franchise has been in trouble since it's main man, former 4th leading
scorer in Pro Basketball history, V.P.-G.M.-Coach Dan Issel resigned
under fire a few years ago.
Last year is the first time since Issel ask for and received a two million
dollars buyout, that the Nuggets made the NBA playoffs. Coach George Karl has
done about all he can and bringing in Iverson can only help them in case
Anthony is released or traded in the near future. I had predicted big things
for the Nuggets and thought Anthony would be the better of the two between he
and Cleveland's former High Schooler, LeBron James. I am wrong and James has
been very good for Cleveland. But when Anthony threw that stray elbow at
L.A.'s Elton Brand in the playoffs in May of 2006 and was ejected, it was the
beginning of the end - maybe-, in his progress. Brand won the NBA's equivalent
of the Aussie Footy's Best and Fairest Sportsmanship Award, the second Clipper
in three years to win at least a part of the award (Eric Piatkowski, now with
Phoenix was co-winner).
The NBA's Division Leaders now are: East - Boston, Southeast - Orlando and
M.V.P Candidate Centre Dwight Howard, Central - Detroit. In the West, Phoenix,
with two-time M.V.P Steve Nash leads the Pacific with the Clippers now at
10-13 because of injuries to Sam Cassell, Chris Kaman and Shaun Livingston,
Northwest lead by Utah, who I saw play two games three weeks ago and Southwest
- lead by San Antonio. Look for more trades near the All-star Break in Feb.,

The Los Angeles Lakers have
beaten the L.A. Clippers twice now so far this NBA season in the 'Battle of

streak which was broken in Utah with MYKwebTV's Rich Salzer in attendance last

and Portland, which will be moving after this season.
Rumor has Seattle going to Oklahoma City and Portland being recruited up the

Will the Sonics be called 'SuperSonic Oklahomans' next ano? Stay tuned on that
one. Kobe Bryant has been red-hot lately and so has Elton Brand, while Eric

Report: L.A. Hoops Update Clippers/Lakers currently tied in Pacific Western

"Several Preseason and Internet Reports Predict Clippers Elton Brand to be in
the lead for the M.V.P this year. Last year, though he came in fifth for the
award, he won two other awards; 'Best and Fairest [Citizenship Award]' and
'Best Defender'. The Clippers, after losing a close 110-104 loss to Phoenix,
with ex-Clipper Eric Piatkowski (yet to play... stay tuned...), the Clips beat
both Denver and Phoenix the last two games. They and the Lakers are tied at
2-1 records on top of the Division in the Pacific West, to start the year. In
December, the 'Battle of L.A.' kicks in.
Rich Salzer will be in Salt
Lake City, Utah on Nov. 28th to report on a Jazz game and the pics should be
up by Dec., first week. In other NBA News, Yao Ming scored a career high 36
points in the Rockets 107-76 win over Dirk Nowitski-less Dallas Sunday.
The second most exciting player in the NBA to consistent Elton Brand, Gilbert
Arenas, scored 44 pts., in the Washington Buzzards win at Boston. Despite the
Clippers blowout over the Suns in L.A., Steve Nash, the only Canadian to win
the NBA MVP (2x), has two very good games v. the Clippers early this season in

"Moose's "Pro" Clippers 2006-07 Preview!
More previews!
Bill Romo's new awesome Pure Romo Nutrition!
" Myk Aussie
From Moose "NBA
Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs
and Denver Nuggets Previews:
(1) The Los Angeles Clippers look on paper to be the 'Best In
The West' this year. Coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr.'s roster is loaded and F Elton
Brand is currently the only Clipper playing for Team USA. The only F/A losses
were the Croatian bros., Zelko Rebraka and Vlad Radmanovic. The draft brought
Mich. St.'s C/F Paul Davis to add to an allstar roster that includes Brand's
old mate from Duke, sF/GCorey Maggette, G/F, Quint Ross, Gs Sam (I Am) Cassell,
Cutino Mobely, Centre Chris Kaman, and they added F Tim Thomas from the
(2) Phoenix Suns, who crossed up the Clips wires a bit by signing former Mr.
Clipper, ex-L.A.,Chicago, Houston 6'7" G/F Eric 'Pike' Piatkowski right aorund
the same week the Clips struck back and got T.Thomas. The Suns, who won the
Division by five games over the somewhat injury-depleted Clips, who rallied
with a strong finish, acing the Clippers in a tough 7-game second round
playoff series but losing to Canadian two-time NBA M.V.P. G Steve Nash(vegas)
old mates, Dirk Nowitzki and the
(3) Dallas Mavericks. The Clippers and Suns, with Centre Amoure Stoutamire
coming back from injury, to go with F Shawn Marion, G Landro Barbosa. Coach
Avery Johnson showed his team is much improved, but they did lose to a bad
Championship opponant in the Miami has beens last June. Bad Officiating also
hurt the cause. So in the offseason, the owner who is more into his team than
anybody in the League, Mr. Moneybags Mark Cuban went out and got some depth
for his frontcourt in ex-Indy Pacer Austin Croshere (french
for Tod Murphy). It's akin to locking the barn door after the horse has
escaped [i.e., too little too late].
(4) The San Antonio Spurs still have the goods to close on the Mavs,
Clips an Suns in the West with Centre/F Tim Duncan, Gs Tony Parker and Manu
Ginobilli in tow and the Coaching in Bill Parcells old buddy from Air Force,
Greg Popovitch. The
(5) Denver Nuggets, who got clobbered by the Clippers in round
one of the Western Conference playoffs last year, 4-1 are still a work in
progress under vet Coach George Karl. But with Fs Carmelo Anthony and Big Ed Najera manning the corners and Evans and Elston playing
the Fs off the bench, expect the Nuggets to be in the playoffs again. Remember
ex-H.Coach Doug Moe (hey, he's coached just about everywhere...) is the main
Assistant and this team is young, can leap, run and score."

The Dallas Mavs sent Taivon
Daniels (his real name) to the Boston Celtics for former Mavericks
Centre/Forward Raef LaFrentz, then traded him to the Indiana Pacermakers for
Forward/Centre Austin (Man of Mystery) Croshere (french to english
translation: Pau Gasol wannabe), so he can back up import Centre/Forward Dirk
(Cheated out of NBA trophy) Nowtizki. The Celtics just reupped the contract of
Forward Paul Pierce to three more years for a cool $20.5-mil. The Bulls signed
former VA Union Centre and Detroit two-time NBA Champion Series player Ben
Wallace to a four year deal making him the highest paid Centre on the planet,
which frankly may be too much. True, Shaq O'Neal is on his way out, but Dirk
deserves to be the highest paid after the season he had.
Owner Mr. Dolen of the New York Knickerbockers (I swear, it's their real
name!) is giving CBA and Toronto Raptors ruin-ER Isiah Thomas one-year, to
straighten out the mess he created last summer by signing Larry Brown to that
expensive contract. Thomas has been fired everywhere he goes but the players
CLAIM now, that they will play hard for him during the 2006-07 season. We'll
see...The Los Angeles Clipper have dominated in both the draft (Paul Davis,
et, al) and free agency as they reupped point guard (two Championship
rings from Houston 1994'-95) Sam (I Am) Cassell to a new two-year deal in
which he has an option to be an Assistant Coach in '07-'08, if he chooses and
signing tough shooting Tim Thomas from Phoenix. I hope this doesn't mean the
end for the best player in the NBA Elton Brand's buddy Corey Maggette in L.A.!
When the Clips couldn't resign ex-Clipper standout Eric (Pike) Piatkwoski and
the Suns stole him from Wallace' Chicago, the Clips struck back by signing
Thomas, who grew up in L.A. (AND GET THIS;) used to root for the CLIPPERS!
At this point, if the Clips do
keep Maggette, it was a non-brainer to get Thomas and let Steve

Eric Piatkowski became the

The NBA Championship Series

Dallas blasted Miami 99-85 last night to take a decisive 2-0 lead in the best
of 7 Championship Series. Joining the has beens, a guy I forgot to mention
last week in list of old timers competing for the Heat, Antoine Walker,
ex-Maverick and Celtic, who despite body-beautiful likes to play soft and
shoot jumpers from the outside! I predicted a sweep by Dallas and I expect
this prediction to hold up.
If the Heat have any chance it may be on me as I have predicted all three Pro
Football Championships wrong this year so far; I picked Seattle OVER
Pittsburgh
in Super Bowl XL, I predicted Amsterdam to repeat in NFL E Bowl XIV (Frankfurt
won) and I predicted Orlando OVER Chicago in ArenaBowl XX. Wrong again. I
guess that means I'll be correct in the Grey Cup as I am taking Edmonton to
repeat." Moose

Moose Salzer
Earth to Detroit's Ben Wallace
and Co; You can wake up any day now, Miami is not that great. Sure, Dwayne
Wade is a fine young player. Maybe I overstated things when I said that no
Canadian teams would make the Stanley Cup this year. I sure didn't expect
Edmonton, as young as they are to be in it! I was wrong. No biggie. I've been
wrong before. But when they pulled a major upset over Red Wings (to be honest,
I would rather have seen them v. the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup
Finals, like in '02), now the same thing is about to happen to the Pistons,
who have just fallen asleep v. the Miami has beens. 'Take Dallas -
Please', as a certain comedian
used to say. "Really, this Polish prince from Deuschlaund, Dirk Nowitzski is
better than I thought." And Avery Johnson certainly DOES deserve Coach of the
Year. But Dallas v. Miami in the NBA Finals? Nah, momma, wake me up!" Moose
From Clippers to Moose!
Dear Rich,
CC: MykAussie.com
On behalf of Owner Donald T. Sterling and the entire Clippers organization,
please accept our thanks for your undying support this season. It has been a
great season; full of record-breaking accomplishments – and you were there for
each and every minute of it.
Together, we were able to celebrate so many breathtaking experiences,
including All Star Elton Brand's emergence as the NBA's elite performer, the
development of Centre Chris Kaman, and the introduction of Sam Cassell as the
team's confident leader.
How about the tremendous growth of Shaun Livingston, the steady influence of
Cuttino Mobley, as well as the consistent contributions of the ultimate
warrior, Corey Maggette?
It all started with a franchise-best 9-2 start, and just kept rolling from
there - all the way to a Los Angeles Clippers record 47 wins (,54 total; reg.
season and playoffs combined). And who will ever forget the sea of red and
the Staples Centre Arena volume level during the playoffs?
The best part of it all was sharing it with you. That's why I wanted to take
a minute and send off this letter as a tribute to you and to your huge role in
our success.
It doesn't stop now. Via our Full Court E-Newsletter service, we will continue
to update you with the latest Clippers' information pertaining to the NBA
Draft, team transactions, special offers and much, much more. And drop in at
www.clippers.com every time you get
a chance to keep up with all the happenings in the Clipper Nation.
We wish you the very best this off-season, and can't wait to see you at
Staples Center for an even bigger and better 2006-07.
Sincerely,
Andy Roeser,
Executive Vice President

Clippers look to eclipse Suns tonight; Detroit moves on; Battle of Texas to

Awards Update: As reported
last week, Clippers General Manager Elgin Baylor won the NBA's Executive of
the Year Award by leading the Clippers to acquiring: Cutino Mobely, Sam (I Am)
Cassell, and resigning Elton Brand and Corey Maggette two years ago. The Los
Angeles Clipper and Defending Champ San Antonio Spurs look to wrap up their
surprising 7-game Semi Finals Series tonight on ESPN & TNT respectfully. The
Clippers got plenty of rest the last few days after blowing out Phoenix in
L.A. last Friday night.
If they beat the Suns, which
most people expect them to, they would go to the Western Finals for the first
time in franchise history (though they did make the Eastern Finals with Boston
once as the 'Buffalo Braves') The Spurs look to shake off the pesky Dirk
Nowitzski lead Mavs and Coach of the Year Avery Johnson. That's what's in
store IN The Western Conference. In the Eastern Conference, the Miami has
beens look to oil enough joints with Geritol to try to make a good Series out
of it with Flaky Fred 'Flip' Saunders underachieving Detroit Pistons who
finally got pesky LeBron James and Cleveland out of the way." Moose

Scores:
Los Angeles 114, Phoenix 107
Miami 102, New Jersey 92
Dallas 104, San Antonio 103
Cleveland 86, Detroit 77 (Shame on you Ben Wallace!)
From Moose "Chris Kaman DID
indeed hyperextend his right shoulder in Friday night's game (loss) with
Suns. So he did the right thing last night in sitting out the Clips
impressive win over the Suns in Los Angeles. Elton J. Brand and Vlad
Radmanovic played in his place, and with Amon Staoudamire out for the series
v. LA., the Suns are just not strong enough to stop the Clips duo in the
middle. Radmanovic who had 18 points playing both the PF & SF positions
Friday in the narrow loss, had 13 pts., and four blocks last night to go
with Brand's 30 points, nine rebs., eight assists and six blocks.
The CLippers had the League's
best 'D' in the regular season, something I did not know until last night.
They also moved Corey Maggette, Brand's old teammate from Duke U. into
the lineup ahead of over acheiving Quint Ross (6'6", 185) @ SF/SG.
Maggette is forty pound heavier and a half inch taller. He's also a better
three-pt. shooter. Maggette had 18 pts. and nine rebs. But the star of the
game, really for L.A was vet PG Sam (I Am) Cassell, with his 28 points he
also held (supposed) M.V.P Steve (CanadianCrash) Nahs to 8 points. Some
M.V.P.!
In other NBA News: It appears
that flaky Larry Brown, who Coached the Clippers to the playoffs, twice in
the early '90's, is on the way to being bought out @ New York. Hopefully
this will be the last stop for the overrated 'Coach', who is one of the
worst in NBA history in terms of CONsistency. Brown started out as
player-Coach of the old Carolina Cougars in the ABA down in these parts back
in the early '70's (when colleague Scott Baxter was born and I was a-youngin').
Brown has lost almost as many games as he has won. Surprisingly,
NON-Successful former CBA Commish, Isiah Thomas, the ex-Det. Champ G, and
current (not jelly!) N.Y. G.M. is the lead man for the job. I guess he'll
bowl himself over in the Interview!" Moose

Congrats to Canadian Steve
Nash who win the MVP for the 2nd year in a row. Some media guys are
saying that Steve is now possibly Canada's greatestt ever athlete! He is
definitely a amazing basket baler to watch. I was predicting and hoping that
Kobe won it. Watching Nash play recently he is a amazing player. Now Moose,
seriously I have known Moose for about 6 years and he has always been a #1
Clippers fan. Finally he has something to cheer about.
From Moose "Boy did the NBA
pick the wrong time to tell Elton J. Brand,
"sorry, no M.V.P. this year, but you'll have to settle for the Sportsman of
the Year NBA Award."
This award is the equivalent of the Aussie Footie's "Best and Fairest".
Quote: "For the Player who best exemplifies Ethical Behavior, Fair Play,
Integrity and Respect for the Game" Past winners include: (2005) Grant Hill,
Orlando, (2004) Ray Allen, Seattle, (2003) Eric Piatkowski, L.A. Clippers,
(2002) P.J. Brown, New Jersey, (2001) Steve Smith, San Antonio, (2000) David
Robinson, San Antonio, (1999) Hersey Hawkins, Seattle, (1998) Eric Snow,
Seattle, (1997) Avery Johnson, San Antonio, (1996) Terrell Brandon,
Cleveland, (1995) Joe Dumars, Detroit. Elton J. came in fifth in the M.V.P
voting, which is an absolute travesty! It should make him plenty fired up
tonight as the Clippers invade Sun Valley to take on Phoenix. The Suns
ousted the overrated Lakers, 4-3 Saturday night, 121-90. Kobe even got
benched (!) with seven minutes left and L.A.'s other team only down by 15
points.
Then after Kobe left, the rout
was on! Kobe came in fourth in the voting for M.V.P. after Canadian Steve
Nash, who should be an easy target tonight as his ankle was sprained in the
blowout of the Lakers Saturday night. Sam Cassell, "Fasten your seat
belts!", as Ralph 'The Voice of the Clippers' Lawler says. KTLA - WB and
KTLK will of course be bringing you all the action with Lawler, Mike Smith,
Matt Pinto and Lee Klein.
Lakers try to assess the mess
that's left from the Phoenix fallout. How can you have a team down 3-1 then
get blown out three straight playoff games?! Not easy, that's for sure.
Bryant was alternately awful or awesome in the Series. In the 4 Laker losses
he shot only 17 of 53. But in the wins, he scored 37.8 pts. per game. Don't
blame him for poor Defense the Lakers played throughout the season, Reg. and
Playoffs. Bryant never was good on that end of the floor, but for crying out
loud - will somebody give this man some help? Kwamie Brown disappeared and
was benched in game seven and Luke Walton, normally a F was utilized at
Centre here and there in this series as well. Walton is of course ex-San
Diego and Los Angeles Clipper Great Bill's son (actually he had four sons).
Bill Walton is one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history and the
Clippers only M.V.P. pick - until this year of course with Elton Brand, the
perennial all-star having a career year. I guess Billy Crystal will have to
cry in his beer and motzoh balls since they'll be 'Hallway Series". I would
have loved to see the Lakers get their asses kicked by the Clippers in the
playoffs. But it wouldn't have been the same with Eric Piatkowski in a Clips
uniform anyway." Moose

"Moose's Pro Clippers NBA report! Kobe what a Champ! Buck's Andrew Bogut MYKwebTV!" Myk Aussie
Kobe Bryant has been unreal in
the playoffs! The Lakers my favorite NBA team lost last night 114 to 97 to
the Suns. They surprisingly to many lead the series 3-2. Kobe should be the
MVP this year although it is believed it will be Canadian and Sun's Steve
Nash for the 2nd year in a row. Now here goes for Moose's Pro Clippers anti
Lakers report!" Myk
From Moose Mon, May 2 06 "NBA Update: Clippers to close out Denver tonight; Is a Second
Round "Battle of L.A. in the making?" Moose Salzer
Recent Scores: Los Angeles
Clippers 100, Denver 86 [not as close as the score might indicate; The Clips
never trailed!]
L.A. fLakers 99, Embarrassed Phoenix 98 ( Suns down 1-3?!)
Chicago 93, Ancient Miami 87 (How about the 'Baby Bulls' and old man Eric
'Pike' Piatkowski? He's played in every game so far and hit some big threes
for the Bulls!)
Washington 106, Cleveland 96
Indiana & New Jer(k)sey tied @ 2-2
Milwaukee (despite Bogut's worst game of the year!) 124, Detroit 104
The Suns are really doing the Los Angeles Clippers a REALLY BIG favor by
folding up v. Kobe and the Lakers (who have lost more NBA Finals than any
team [10] in NBA history!). I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A "Battle of L.A." in the
second round! I think the NBA would too! For the last two years the Clippers
have had by far the better record of the two L.A. Men's Pro teams and the
Clippers are hitting their stride!
They blew away 'Enver (where's
the 'D'?) Saturday night I would much rather them face the barely adequate "Leakers"
(44-38) than the supposedly great Suns (52-30) in the next round. Then if
Memphis takes out Dallas, that'll leave us (Clips) to face Defending Champ
San Antonio in the Western Finals. The Clippers have now won 50 games (reg.
sea. & playoffs and can win their all-time high (54 games) with a win in
round two. Myk doubted when I said I had a feeling about these Clips early
in the year. Now he knows different!" Moose
