Thurs Dec 11, 03 "Oh no Oiler babe can't believe it! The Alberta
enemy the Calgary Flames are in front of her beloved Edmonton Oilers! Oiler Babes awesome
NHL report!" Myk Aussie
"Myk Aussie & mates firstly, a little news around the NHL. Congrats to
Brett Hull this week for becoming the third in line with career goals. Brett
scored his 732nd goal on Monday Dec. 8th at 1:51 into the O.T. period giving the
Red Wings a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Hull's third spot falls
behind Gordie Howe with 801, and Mr. Wayne Gretzky with 894. Quite a
milestone for this 39yr old who once claimed he didn't even really enjoy hockey
but the money was good.
Can you believe the Flyers this year? WOW! Philadelphia has always had a
fairly strong team but this year they are untouchable. The Flyers are currently
at the top of the league recording only 1 loss in 17 games. Bobby Clarke
and Ken Hitchcock should be very proud. This is a team that actually knows how
to blend together and get the job done. With 13 players over the age of 30, it
just goes to show how experience can dominate. I have never been much of a
Flyer fan considering the history with the Oilers and of course Haxstall (Ron
Hextall) but this team is absolutely fab this year. If they continue at
this pace I think we will be seeing them go far into the playoffs. Possibly a
Stanley Cup?
On the flip side, what the Hell? My Capitals are sitting at the bottom with
Pittsburgh? I am glad to see that GM George McPhee has relieved coach Cassidy
from duty however, will Hanlon be any better? This is a very sad season for this
team. They have one of the strongest payrolls in the league and cannot
manage to pull off a win. Washington has won only 8 games this season.
Cassidy nor Hanlon have had any NHL coaching experience so I believe that is
part of the problem. I think another big problem is the huge ego curse. Jagr
does not wish to be there and his attitude has been a problem with prior teams.
Time for some wheeling & dealing, maybe a little shake-up is what this team
needs.
On to the Oilers. Yes, it is sad, sad, sad. I would much rather be bragging
about my boys in blue but this year they are in one hell of a rut. Calgary, (oh
how I hate to say this) is currently 5 points ahead of Edmonton in the Northwest
Division. There are numerous reasons we are faltering this year. One of the
biggest is goal tending. Tommy Salo has never recovered to the caliber
that he once was. Ty Conklin just doesn't have the experience and has had to be
a fill in while Salo has been on the injured list. Edmonton has never had a
goalie problem such as this. We have produced some of the best in the league.
Mac T - time for a trade. I said it before, send Comrie, Salo and Brewer and
bring us a decent goalie. With the 3 of them I am sure we could afford
someone who can make saves.
The other most prominent problem the Oilers have been facing this year is lack
of goals, powerplay or otherwise. Why is it we cannot score? We have the ability
and the right people but just can't get to the back of the net. The shots
have been there but the Oilers have only managed to show up for 3rd periods.
We cannot win a game if we slack off for the first two periods. It has
been an all around struggle for this team and lack of confidence is starting to
show. The Oilers have won just once since Nov 20th and that was Saturday
Night against Pittsburgh. Last nights loss to Carolina was definately a kick in
the ass. Time to regroup now, road trip begins tomorrow night in San Jose.
Up and coming on the road trip are Phoenix, Anaheim and L.A., with any luck and
a whole lot of prayer we can pull off some much needed points. GO OILERS
GO!!" OilerBabe xo

is on Dec 3rd against Minnesota and I am hoping this will be a good luck

Oilers
vs Minnesota" Oiler Babe
"Well
here we go again. Tonight the Oilers played the Minnesota Wild in what
should have been the start to at least scoring some goals. The Oilers
winless in the last 5 games just could not get the puck past Manny Fernandez.
It was not without effort as Fernadez stopped 34 shots by the Oil.
Unfortunately the boys could just not find the right opening to the net.
Even with a two man advantage in the last minute of the 3rd, the Oilers still
avoided the scoreboard.
While
the game was not exciting by any means, the fans at Rexall Place showed their
dissapointment by booing the Oilers. I do have to say that I too was
feeling just as ticked off as the rest of the crowd. Gaborik's
(Minnesota) powerplay goal, half way through the first period, was the only
thrill of this game. The Oil did pick up the pace a bit near the end of
the 3rd but too little, too late. Final Score Minnesota 1, Oilers 0.
Although
I very much dislike negativity towards my team, this night was literally
pathetic. We have all the right moves but we can't be sleeping while the
party is on. The fact that some players are losing confidence in
themselves does not help the rest of the team that are trying so hard to get
out of this slump. I hate to admit to this but the Flames are now ahead
of us in points! Ugggghhh.
The
trade rumours are still circulating around Comrie and it seems there is no
other team that really wants just Mike. There seems to be something cooking as
far as a deal with Comrie and possibly two other veteran players. My
guess on this one, if we can deal Comrie it is not unlikely to see either
Brewer or Isbister going as well. The way I would like to see things is
to get rid of Mike, send Salo with him and if we have to yes, one other
player. No disrespect to Tommy Salo but I still say he lost all of his
drive when he played in the Olympics for Team Sweden. Ty Conklin has
been trying his best to fill in while Tommy has been sitting on the injured
list. However, his lack of experience and amount of
games played lately is showing. Ales Hemsky as well, what the heck is
going on with this kid? He has no problem getting assists but where are
the goals? Last season he showed us some wicked moves and this
year... where is he? Come on back Hemsky you have proven there is talent
in your skates so please start showing us again.
My
favorite player this year happens to be none other than Raffi Torres.
Raffi was acquired last March from the Islanders in exchange for
Janni Niinimma. I believe when we got Raffi I mentioned how if given the
right opportunity he could be the spark this team needed. I must have
had a vision because this boy is incredible. The numbers do not lie.
Torres is currently our top goal scorer and one of the top five point leaders
for the Oilers. Keep up the good work Raffi!!
Well,
the arena is closing so this girl is signing out. Next game up is
Saturday Dec 6th when Mario & the Penguins come to town. Good Luck
Oilers!!!" OilerBabe

Tues Dec 2, 03 "I'm back, so is Oiler Babe! Oiler
Babes Heritage Classic report! Lots of NHL comedy style
reports coming! Let's start with why Cwoc Tina reckons the Canucks
defeated The Montreal Canadians!" Myk Aussie
Cwoc
Tina in Vancouver sent me this picture & reckons this is why me Vancouver
Canucks beat the Montreal Canadians this week.
Cwoc
Tina thank's for the picture but I'm not sure about that. The Canucks are
playing great Hockey & a big chance to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada
this season.
Oiler
Babes Heritage Classic report. What a Save Grant!!!!
Well,
it's been over a week now but the chatter is still going strong over what some
call the best hockey event in history. The Molson Canadian Heritage
Classic was truly a hockey fan's dream come true. With ticket sales
ranging from $350.00 a seat in the nosebleeds to $1500 a seat for center ice
viewing. Two days prior to the event people were practically crying for
tickets.
Of
course OilerBabe already had a seat amongst the 57,167 other hockey
fans. We dressed warm, drank lots of beer slurpies, and cried together
with the introduction of Mr. Wayne Gretzky.
The
pre-game show was a spectacle in itself. With the snowbirds and the F16
fighter jet drowning out the roar of the crowd. This day was just
beginning. To some it was very cold. At one point the temperature
managed to drop to -18 celcius. To the rest of us, especially one crazy
fan, it was warm enough to start stripping. Although, the streaker as we
will call him, is banned from any future sporting event. I wonder if it
was worth showing the world his 'wee' one. I do have to say he had a
nice butt or at least it appeared that way after 6 beer slurpies lol.
Speaking of butts, OilerBabe shed clothing a few times during the day.
Unfortunately my two new Manitoban friends are Flames fans. After watching
them freeze most of the day I decided to be a good samaritan and lend them my
'Oiler' blankets. After tucking them in to make sure they were warm, I
dropped my 4 pairs of pants and showed them Oiler Centre Ice (lol). The
logo got a loud cheer from section N (lol), or maybe it was my butt? hmmm...
The
announcement of the greatest Oilers of all time definately brought tears to my
eyes. I have been with these guys through 5 Stanley Cups (4 with Wayne)
and it was like seeing my old friends again after many years. The best
line-up in Oiler history and they were back together for one last time.
Gretzky, Tikkanen, Kurri, Anderson, and let's not forget Moose (Messier).
Of course we shall never forget our two best goalies. Billy
Ranford made a great save in the second period. However, the highlight
of the game goes to Grant Fuhr. Grant's glove save in the first period
took us all back in time. This is the reason we were so proud in the
80's. Grant Fuhr, that save will be talked about for years to come.
You are AWESOME!!
Of
course I would be shallow if I did not mention the Canadien Legends. The
Habs were my team prior to Edmonton joining the NHL. Guy Lafleur is a
gentleman beyond anyones imagination. Guy took time out to chat with the
media, sign autographs and smoke (lol) with some local radio personalities.
I have always been a big fan of Guy so it was a pleasure to see him here.
Along with Guy, Steve Shutt, Larry Robinson, Mark Napier, Guy Carbonneau and
others made the trek to centre ice.
One
lasting memory for me was being this close (lol) to Don Cherry as he gave our
section the thumbs up, and Girls, Nick Kippreos really is that
HOT!!!
I
could go on for days talking about the Classic as every memory is etched in my
mind. Unfortunately there is just not enough space. So as
conclusion to this report I would like to end giving credit to those who made
this possible.
As
this was Grey Cup week and the Eskies brought the cup home, this was by no
means meant to over shadow their win. Congrats to the Eskimos for a well
deserved win. We Edmontonians are proud of you. With the Grey Cup
and the Heritage Classic both being celebrated in one week, we have proved
once again that Edmonton really is the 'City Of Champions'.
To
Mr. Patrick Laforge, I thanked you once already before the event but I wish to
extend that now. You have made a dream come true for many hockey fans
and especially Oiler fans. You give me reason to be proud of my team and
as I wear the logo, the memories are with me for life. I thank you and
the whole Oiler organization for putting on the 'event of a lifetime'.
To all sponsors, media, volunteers, fans, November 22nd, 2003 could not have
been possible without people like you. We have made history and shown
the world how genuine we are.
In
closing I would like to thank the players for both the Alumni Oilers and
Canadiens and the staff who put their time, talent and dedication to
make this such a success. Lastly, to CBC and the HNIC crew, thank you
for the coverage and showing the rest of the world that 'Hockey does Live Here"

Dan

Calgary Flames: On QR77 radio here in Alberta last night, Sportscaster

the opening game of the Stanley Cup!" Myk
Seemed
like the CDN TV & radio Hockey experts were right & the 10 day break meant the
Ducks had wet feet in game 1. They reckon the Ducks were going to be a bit slow
& waterlogged after flogging the Minnesota Wild 4-0 in thee Western Final
& then having such a long break.
After
a very even 1st period the Devils hammered the goals early in the 2nd period.
Finally a long nice shot to the upper left corner of the net caught Giguere the
recent Jay Leno star goalie from Montreal Canada off guard. Then later in the
period Giguere saved a rippa but then left the net wider open than Monika's
mouth & bang 2-0 Devils.
In the 3rd period the Devils tightened up as good as Mullets Sth Gawler Lions BL&GFA
defense & game over. They scored the 3rd goal on a even wider open net as
goalie Giguere was pulled off the ice with 1 minute to go. Bye Bye back to see your Disneyland & Hollywood
