University of Hawai'i leading
rusher, QB, KR, H - a true Warrior now has his own Website. Myk and
I will be linking up to that also, in addition to NFL Europe star, Chris
Finlen.
I
have other exciting news for Shreveport-Bossier City Battle Wings fans -
former ArenaCup Coach, local
homer and ex-New Orlean Saints QB John Fourcade,
will be Coaching the Battle Wings in '06. There is still a good chance
ArenaCup 7 will be back in Bossier-Shreveport in Aug. '06. Fourcade's career
with all over the map in Four Pro Leagues. The former University of Ole
Mississippi QB played QB/LB in
the Arena League ('86 test game), '87 Arena- Bowl
I, '92-'93. In addition, to close out the '90's, Fourcade played and
Coached in other Minor
Pro Indoor Football Leagues, that are no longer around. Fourcade graduated
from Ole Miss in '82 and promptly signed with the B.C. Lions of the CFL.
In
1983 he was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 1984-85 he was number
three QB with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL, where some of his
teammates were: the late
Reggie White, alltime Pro Football sack leader, and Henry
'Gizmo' Williams, who Fourcade played against in the NFL in '89. Gizmo later
went on to play 15 seasons in the CFL and is Pro Football's second alltime
leading yardage gainer to Mike
'Pinball' Clemons. Fourcade played for his hometown New
Orlean Saints from the strike in '87 to '91 before returning to the Ar.FL. He
has Coached with Milwaukee and
Miami in the Arena League and Florida, Macon and
Lafayette in Af2 and with three other teams in the LA/MS states in three other
Indoor Football Leagues.
Fourcade has been to two ArenaCups in addition to winning
ArenaBowl I, with Marty Mornhingweg, with Denver. A good choice and a
good Indoor Football guy." Moose

This
is a great report as Moose headed to this game last Saturday for MYKwebTV. Great
stuff Moose. We seem to cover all footy!" Myk
"I
made it into Shreveport Airport at 12:30 (SST) on Saturday Aug. 27th,
2005 and had to hustle to make it to CenturyTel Centre Arena for the 1 p.m.
Kickoff of the
Arenafootball2 (‘AAA’)’s Championship game. This would end the 19th
Arena Football League season with a bang. Next Year will be the Ar.FL’s
Football
family’s
20th season of play and that should be huge. But Grassroots
Arenaball is taking big steps forward again. There will be three or four new
teams in the League next season, the Af2 League’s seventh year. Four new
markets/Arenas have been approved according to the League’s Director.
Also,
Fox Sports World and/or one other network are offering to show an Af2 game of
the week and the ArenaCup next season (which may be back in Bossier- Shreveport
again!) will again be on Fox Sports World. The Arena folks looked after me real
well, as usual. They are the Media & Fans most friendly Pro Football League
on planet earth. I had to catch a cab to the Hotel because my dear old travel
agent
had
forgot to add the last digit to the phone number. The Best Western Bossier City
does have a shuttle, gratis to the airport but I hopped a cab instead to get
there as soon as possible. The cabbie, a chatty old cajan chap took me to the
Hotel, I through my gear in the room (I did grab my Camera, and cell phone
however) and took me right to the Arena, some nine-and-one-half miles away! I
made it by 12:55 Shreveport-Bossier City time. I went to the Media entrance and
told the man, “I am Rich Salzer…”
before
I could get the words out of my mouth, he said, “Salzer…MYKwebTV, here you
go…” [See: and Myk thinks nobody has heard of us.]
I
found the Media room and there were thirty five boxes of Dominos pizza there and
six jugs of fresh orange juice. And Media Guides as far as the eye could see.
(They would come in handy later [pictures should be up next week guys – CWOAs
like you won’t believe!] I ate, rushed down the corridor (01:05 kickoff) just
in time for the National Anthem. Amen! Then the coin toss and kickoff. If first
drives are deceiving, then Louisville Fire set an alltime record. QB Matt Sauk,
a five year man in Arena
Football
(4Af2 and 1 in Ar.FL), completed his first four passes for 46 yards and a TD.
But
Memphis answered right back, but botched the Xtra point. Louisville, 7-6.
Louisville then scored the next two times they had the ball. Louisville, 21-6.
Then Memphis literally threw a blanket on them the Fire (PUN INTENDED!) Memphis,
behind the absolutely mistake free play of QB Brian Jones scored the next 27
points to lead at The half; Memphis 33, Louisville 21. I was stunned. It seemed
like the announcer
was
for Louisville all game. Memphis had the best Defence all season long and they
really turned it up in the second half outscoring the Fire, 30-21 to win, 63-41
in the third highest scoring ArenaCup in the League’s six year history.
It was the first time either club had made the ArenaCup. Both clubs came into
the League in 2001. Florida and Quad City have both made the ArenaCup twice
before. I
thought
that Florida would get in again. They have a strong contingent of three
ex-Norfolk Nighthawks including QB Chris Wallace. But despite a League best
14-2-0 record in the Reg. season, Louisville beat them in Semi-Finals. Sauk set
a record I don’t think will ever be broken, in any League, he threw 119 TDs in
twenty games this year. I know it’s Af2 but Aaron Garcia still holds the
record for 112 TD passes in 14.5 games (including the playoffs) several years
ago, but Sauk set the Af2 record with 99 in a season. Quad City’s Tony
Zimmerman had 93 in ’03.
Game
Balls:
Kevin
Prentiss, four TDs for Memphis
Rob Mager, OS, Louisville, 17 catches in a loss
Brian Jones, a League low 10 INTs all season, 0 in the AC
Memphis Centre / Nose Guard John Grace
Terrance
Quattlebaum, DB/WR Memphis, 2 OF 4 Memphis INTs and 1 TD catch" Moose

VI Preview: Louisville Fire v. Memphis Xplorers [Phil
Simms and Will Wohlford v. (Dr.) Pepper Rodgers for
the Grassroots Indoor Pro ‘AAA’ Football Championship for
$300/game warriors]
“There
are no millionaire contracts. There IS television coverage (Fox
Sports Net / World).” Well, sort of.. I started out to spell out
the writing on
the back of a Green Basy Blizzard Arena football (Man’s
XL) T-shirt I’m about to get. It is very funny and good.
In
this the sixth installment of the ArenaCup of the Af2 League, the
lowest rung on the Pro Football ladder, players get $300/game. Fifty
more if they win. And now there are only two left to compete for
the Championship. And two new teams at that. Neither Louisville nor
Memphis have ever been in the ArenaCup. And that’s good News for
the League. No more “how much will Florida or Quad City win by.
In the Sixth installment of the ArenaBowl’s little brother, the $300
warriors will
be from basically the same area of the country.
Louisville,
Kentucky v. Memphis (actually Robin Costa’s bunch hails from upper
Mississippi. Hope Brett Favre shows up), TN/MS! Will Wohlford, who
also owns a piece of a Kentucky Derby racehorse, along with Simms is
fighting for bragging rights v.Costa and Rodgers MadDog/Showboats/Phoarohs-Xplorers.
Here’s the Matchup: Memphis
(15-3). Coach: Danton Barto, former Mad Dogs and Pharoahs OL/DLm.
The only Coach in Xplorers (those guys in GREEN and gaudy GOLD
unis) His Story. Louisville (14-4) Fire: Coach Tommy Johnson, 12-9
in his last 21 games. Johnson is young, enthusiastic and in over his
head, says the Moose v. the Red-hot Fire (Pun intended!), lead by sixth
year Af2 QB Matt Sauk. Sauk threw 9 TDs in the last Postseason game.
Nine! Other players to watch: Memphis: OS Kevin Pretiss, who is pure
lightning in a bottle; WR/LB Terell Adams. The OL/DL is the best maybe
ever in Af2. Three should move up to the Ar.FL next season.
Who
to watch for Louisville, besides Sauk; WR/DB Rob Mager, nine catches
in their last postseason game; WR/LB Mike Larkin and All-world Indoor Kicker
Danny Kight, ex-of the Giants / Rhein Fire (pun not
intended) / Indianapolis Colts. All-League Kicker of the Year. And
I think he will
win it for the Fire. Moose’s Pick: Louisville 54, Memphis 50."

Moose "Arena Football2 Update: Withy new Fayetteville Offencive Coordinator
– Ex-Saint Mary’s
Huskey Pivot Steve Panella sets Af2 Record in first start!
Injured
Fayetteville QB Shawn Ke’ali’I Withy-Allen isn’t taking any wooden
pickles, so to speak. He
fractured his forearm in Fayetteville’s loss to Arkansas ealier this year
but has been acting as the team’s
Offencive Coordinator to pay bills and rehab since he
may no return to an Indoor Pro teams field this calendar year. Just a
precaution. Fayetteville
hasn’t won a game without him on the field. Last year, with the Hawai’i
Islanders, now defunct, Withy set
an Af2 accuracy record and earned Week 16 Player of
the Week Honours with 24 completions in 33 attempts for 326 yards and five TDs
in Hawai’I’s win over
Bakerfield. The record didn’t last long as ex-Saint Mary’s CIS QB
Steve Panella passed for 18 completions in 21 attempts for 165 yards and four
TDs
In
expansion Amarillo’s win over Shreveport-Bossier City it was the first time a
non-American QB started an Arena Football game, ever. There are
six non-American QBs on Arena/Af2 team rosters; four Canadians, one Aussie,
and one Japanese QB. All have
