Mooses Arena Footy report!" Myk

By: Tampa Bay Rich 'Moose' Salzer

Arena Football Notes...I am hoping for an Islanders/Nighthawks Arena Cup IV
on Aug. 23rd, 2003 in Honolulu @ Blaisdell Centre of course!..Buffalo Destroyers DS Dwaine Carpenter signed a two-yr. contract w/ the NFL's San Francisco 49ers...A great article on Commissioner C. David Baker & the arena league in Sports Illustrated this week...Look for Yankee pitcher Roger Clemons on the cover

Bad news for arena teams next yr:...Jay Gruden back @ QB for my beloved
Predators for "at least one more yr."...Jay says he's having fun & can play @ least one more...He's the John Elway of the Arena league, trying for his 5th Championship appearence @ QB...Good luck in life to recently retired Wichita Coach Bob Cortese...He experienced chest pains & tingling in his arm while in a Honolulu
Hotel last time the Stealth came to play the Islanders...

Former U. H. QB 'Red' Flint took him to a doctor back in Oklahoma & the doc said he's overweight & needs a brak from the stress of coaching so Bob decided to hang it up @ age 61...Bob is former coach of Arena League's Oklahoma Wranglers
& Portland Dragons...That's good news for Cal Lee's Islanders, who are one full game ahead of Wichita in the West Div. + tiebreaker for beating Stealth by more points than Stealth beat them...

Speaking of Islanders I spoke to the lovely Angie Yoon & Mr. Tom Yoshida the other
day, which reminds me that the Islanders E-Store is up & running for all your Hawai'i arena football gear, log on...Videos of 2002 inaugural season games, too...Wayne Lavelle of superbowltimes.com mentioned Cal lost his Cell phone
on the plane, maybe on recent road trip & has been on Wayne/Randy/Reggie's
show several times this year & may start doing a regular show w/ Wayne...Great Idea & Good luck guys...

I can be heard on KUMU 2 /AM 1500 every Sun. evening doing the weekly Arena
Report @ 6:17 or 6:33 pm, HST (that's 12:17 or 12:33 a.m., EST)...Wayne, Randy, Reggie, me& sometimes Mykaussie.com himself come aboard to talk all things Sports on the Best Damn Sports show in Honolulu, Period...Check it out as well as all things Sports on the greatest Sports webT.V./site @ mykaussie.com.
Until next Week, Aloha & Mahalo, brothers!!!!" Moose

Arena Football Report for week ending 5/25/03
By: Rich Moose Salzer

Notes...Bossier City Battle Wings Af2 WR/KR is leaving arena football this week to attend the Edmonton Eskimos CFL training camp & Moose is predicting he will @ least make the Esks practice squad. CFL fans, keep an eye out for this speedster!.. The Norfolk Nighthawks won their third game in a row last night over the Mohegan (Ct.) Wolves, who they will play next Sat. night @ Scope Arena in Norfolk Virginia.

I will be in his usual seat of Row 109, B, seat 10, down front, in the 'in-your-face' front row seating cheering on his hometown arenafootball2 warriors...Hawai'i is @ Cincinnati tonight...Super Bowl Wayne Lavelle told me he talked to coach Cal Lee before the guys were to embark on another frequent flyer mile jaunt...The playoffs in Arena League come on T.V. in about 22 minutes...Warm up those VCRs!

Colorado Crush fire whole coaching staff
By: Moose Arenaball Salzer

Yesterday John Elway released his entire coaching staff of the expansion
Colorado Crush after a disappointing 2-14-0-1 season where the Crush finished 15th out of 16 Arena League teams.

Head Coach Bob Beers, Sr., Offensive Coordinator Bob Beers, Jr., Special
Teams Coordinator
Fred Gayles, Line Coach Keith Kartz, Defensive Coordinator Lee Johnson, all
in their 1st years of coaching arenaball were released. It goes to show that experienced arena coaches are needed to build winning Arena Bowl contender teams.

Beers, Sr. is a former college coach & NFL assistant. Beers, Jr., the last
two seasons was Line coach for the two-time defending NFL E Champ Berlin Thunder (who are presently 2-5-0 w/out him), Johnson & Kartz friends of Elway (still?) & former NFL players & Gayles a former 10-yr arena player in his first yr. of Pro Football coaching. Gayles should still be a shoe-in for the Arena Football League Hall-of-Fame." Moose

May 20, 2003 "Legend John Elway dumps his entire coaching staff! Moose Me Nth American Footy Expert his Arena Footy update!" Myk Aussie

After a disappointing 2-14 1st season in Arena Footy former Bronco's star QB John Elway dumped his entire coaching staff today!

It was reported John Elway said today. "We feel like we've built a solid foundation but are very disappointed with the record we had this year. We will do everything we can to put a winner on the field because that's what Crush fans deserve."

Big John Elway is a legend being a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Denver Broncos. John owns the crush along with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke.

Arena League/Af2 Notes:...Ex-Baltimore Stallion WR Shannon 'skinny' Culver played a great game in Dallas Central Div. win over the Rampage, in Grand Rapids, MI. on NBC yesterday...The studio crew for this 1st season on NBC needs improvement...They wasted too much time worrying about what 'that other (outdoor) league does & never got in a rhythm on the arena game...I'll mention it in a
nice way on Gabriel Morency's show this Fri. night when I do my 2003 season
wrap-up...
"Moose Gabriel is under a MADNess Suspension still!" Myk Aussie

Dallas QB Jim Kubiak wrapped up a great season w/ over 4,700 yds. passing, a new
record...One of the things that the meatheads on NBC never mentioned that NBC moved the arena season back & took away the two preseason games they used to play & added two more regular season games to the schedule which, naturally allowed the players to set quite a few records this season...More to come on that in the next week...

The Hawai'i Islanders are holding their own in fine fashion so far as they beat Div. opponent Wichita, 50-48 @ Blaisdell Centre, Fri. night...I had to keep up w/ it on
the internet since I was in Charlotte, N.C. watching the poor, beleaguere Cobras lose a record 17th straight game (they finished the season 0-16-0-1. Ouch!!), to New York, 63-47...N.Y. QB Aaron Garcia passed for 100 TDs in a season for the 2nd time in his career...He has 600 on his career now...The Islanders got into a big brawl v. Wichita Fri. when rush end Kenny Linnear crashed into Hawai'i kicker Kimo Neahu...Holder Mike Tillis & FB/LB-blocker on special teams, Morrie Roe #44 got ejected from the game for Hawai'i for body-slamming Linnear after he hit Kimo...Order was restored by the magpies & both teams were sent to their respective locker rooms for 10 minutes each following the fracas...

Onto the playoffs & Arena Bowl XVII for the following teams: Orlando, San Jose - the defending Arena Bowl XVI Champs, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, Arizona, Dallas, Georgia, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas, Grand Rapids, New York & Chicago...

Orlando, San Jose, Tampa Bay & Los Angeles have 1st round byes...I'm going w/ Orlando probably v. San Jose in the finals..Dark Horse candidates are Las Vegas,
Georgia & maybe Los Angeles

....In other Af2 news, Fri. the hometown Norfolk Nighthawks traveled to PA. to defeat Ken Saroka's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, 49-35...They beat the Pioneers last
weekend, Sat. @ Scope in Norfolk, VA., 48-34, similar scores...Jay Clarke (3 rec(s) & 4.5 tackles got Ironman of game & Travis Burns, OS/KR was voted MVP...

Stu Brown, #12 has played very well since being moved down from Arena League,
6 weeks ago, too...FB/LB, Chri Morant, who played last season in Arena 1 w/
N.Y. will be leaving for a try out w/ the Baltimore Ravens (not Stallions, Myk) on Jun. 8th he told me last weekend...Ex-reserve Hawai'i Warrior QB Jared 'Red' Flint is still a back up for Wichita & didn't play except holder v. the Islanders back on 'the Rock', Oahu, Honolulu last Fri...More next week - THE PLAYOFFS!!!

I can be heard on KUMU 2 /AM 1500 every weekend now discussing w/ Super Bowl Wayne & Randy Myamoto &  Reggie 'The Jazz-man', the newest member of the team, -all things sports.

Last night, Sun., May 18th According  to Wayne I had a great show as he discussed the results from the Arena League, Af2, the NBA playoffs & the Islanders dramatic win over first place Wichita @ Blaisdell Centre, Fri. night. Randy was there & he & I discussed the 10 minute delay in action following the brawl & ejection of two Islanders players, Morrie Roe & Mike Tillis following Kenny Linnear's
attack on Hawai'i kicker Kimo Neahu. Moose was live from Omaha, Nebraska where Big John Parella & Eric 'Pike' Piatkowski went to college after watching an Af2 game from press row.

The never ending 'Economy w/ Dignity Footy Tour' rolls up to Canada starting Jun 17th w/games in Calgary, British Columbia, Saskatchewan & Edmonton - 5 in 11 days time! Que Barbaridad!!

Gabriel back after a mysterious suspension! Jared 'Red' Flint is still hanging on as backup QB of Wichita after spending 4 games as Islanders backup QB last season.

Arena Notes:
How about the Nighthawks, w/ Moose in attendance beating a fiesty   Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers squad @ Scope...The Nighthawks travel to
Wilkes-Barre Fri. night, in Pa. to play them in the rubber match.

My beloved Hawai'i Islanders won also this weekend (it would figure a grassroots footy nut like moi would like the furthest two teams apart in Af2 - Honolulu & Norfolk) over the Bakerfield Blitz, who they play three times (scheduling wrangle?) this season...The 3rd game will be on July 27th @ Blaisdell Centre in Honolulu w/ Moose Salzer there!..

Aaron Garcia is back in the lineup in time for New York to make it's playoff push, w/ 1 week left in the season...The Dragons take on Carolina's 0-15-0-1 Cobras
in Charlotte Colesium Fri. night & Moose plans on making the trip...Come on Cobras, let's win one before the off-season! If they do, they'll play spoiler & knock New York out of the playoff race - providing that Indiana's erratic Firebirds win their last game, which I think they will...If the Cobras lose & go 0-16 on the season they will officially clinch last place - all-time!..The New Orlean Night went 0-10 in '91...Their coach,?..Current Carolina headman, Eddie Khyat!..Massive irony...Josh 'Zeus' White ruched for a league record 5 TDs in the Islanders win last weekend...Josh only has one eye & is a real inspiration to his teammates...Way to go, Josh!..

Former Univ. of Hawai'i QBs are all over the place!..Former reserve Jared
(Red) Flint, who played three games as number 2 for the Islanders last
spring '02 before being optioned to Wichita (who plays @ Blaisdell Centre in
Honolulu Fri. night), is still the number 2 man w/ the Stealth ...Must be interesting to go back to 'The  Rock' as part of the opposition!...Former U / H QB Tim Carey, who was injured in the Destroyers loss Sat. to New York was coach June Jones 1st QB after he took over Univ. of Hawai'i...His 2nd QB Dan Robinson played NFL E for two season & current Bronco Nick Rolovich is over their this spring playing well for Dan's old team, the Rhein Fire...By the way, Red Flint's favorite alltime football player is legendary PA. QB, Joe Namath...That's a good choice & goes back a ways!. It's hard to believe that Namath lead the Jets to Super Bowl III win back in 1969!...Que barbarridad!...More next week from Carolina-bound VA." Moose

I was on SuperBowl Wayne's show @ 12:08, EST (6:08 p.m.,HST) Sun. on KUMU2 / AM 1500...The topics Moose, Randy Myamoto & Wayne discussed were an update of the Norfolk & Hawai'i Af2 games, The Arena Football week (14) in review, the Alabama Football coach's dismissal over credit card/strip joint/room service daliances, etc & Moose's & Myk's upcoming CFL & other Footy trips...

I'll be on again Fri. in two weeks & I should be on The Team 990 w/ Gabriel Morency on Sportsrage this coming Fri, May 9th...Canadian Football League import &fellow Virginian Kelvin Kinney, on loan from the Edmonton Eskimos has been a real blessing for the Tampa Strom as they continue to roll over opponents...

Yesterday following the NFL E Fox game of the week (Nick Rolovich's Rhein Fire over the Frankfurt Galaxy - in tape delay form), The NBC game of the week was Dallas v. the Storm from Reunion Arena, Dallas...A very well played game that proved the Storm certainly have the best defense in the league...How about 3rd string QB Walter Church coming into the lineup for seemingly fast-fading New York & leading the Dragons to a one-pt. win over playoff-bound Las Vegas, a mild upset...So much for meathead QB Aaron Garcia who is out for @ least another week after rolling his car in a stupid, selfish drunken bout 1 day before the Dragons played Tampa last week?..

Well, so much for Garcia's potential NFL career...Speaking about last
week's Dragon game, which was attended by St. Louis RAM qb & former Arena
star Kurt Warner, the Rams took the time to fill the hole in their lineup
vacated by Carolina bound Ricky Proehl...The Rams signed SB/WR Mike Furrey,
who was leading the league in TDs w/ 46, to a 1 -yr. contract that is
guaranteed...Same deal was signed by Chris Horn w/ Rose's K.C. Chiefs four
weeks ago...

Speaking about meatheads, Larry Phillips, who's flamed out in four different leagues now, was released by the CFL's Les Alouettes, for
"failure to maintain minimum conduct standards...If Alabama's Bob Price
(not the same Price who coached Mont. in '96, & was a fine assistant w/ the
Baltimore Stallions (not Ravens, Myk!) in '95-'94 CFL seasons...Interesting
stuf in all 3 Football Leagues this past week...Feterik's in Calgary tell
Dave Dickenson THEIR not interested...Dave won't stay unemployed
long...Rumor mill has him meeting w/ Arizona this or next week...

Me & Myk's buddy, Mat McBriar, who broke all one of my punting records @ Hawai'i signed a three-yr. deal w/ Myk's Broncos...They'll need him w/ ancient Steve Beuerlein, skitterish Jake (the flake) Plummer & Nick Rolovich @ QB...No, I didn't forget Jarious Jackson, who I see going to either Toronto or another
NFL as number#3 QB...The Broncos can't keep all 4 of 'em...Speaking of 3rd
(or 2nd) string QBs, expect Parcells to pick up his Jets buddy (No Sugar) Ray Lucas as a reserve pivot...Lucas played for Tuna in N.J. & on P's Super Bowl runner-up team v. Green Bay in '97...

How about Toronto releasing Jimmy 'the jet' Cunningham, Robert Drummond, Juan Johnson, et, al?..Are they cleaning house or what?..Expect Saskatchewan to not make the same mistake twice...They lost to - guess who? -Toronto in the 1st round of the playoffs w/ Drummond in the backfield...They wanted Drummond @ 1st last season when Myk's meatheads in B.C. let his Drummond-ness go but waited a game to long thinking the price would go down, then the Argos picked him up...Expect Drummond or the Jet to play arenaball next spring if they don't get picked up by a CFL team...

Gotta run mates, gotta cover NFL Europe now, - oh, before I forget - how about Marty Lowe, the Georgia Force coach...He loses starting QB James Brown to Frankfurt (NFL 'AAA' E), so he inserts arena vet Donnie Davis into
the lineup - now he leaves to go to the CFL camp(s) so he inserts 3rd
stringer Leon Murray (a late cut by Washington, NFL in '02) - & the Force
blow out playoff bound but slumping Indiana in Conseco fieldhouse yesterday
by 20+ points?!...

That man is my  Coach of the yr. in arenaball right now!..On to the sad case known as the Carolina Cobras...What a class guy that Mike Hold is...He was let go by the Cobras on Tues. last week (74-yr.-old G.M. Eddie Khyat replaces him on an interim basis rest of '03 season) & has nothing but good things to say about the current 0-14-0-1 team...I met 12 yr. arena vet Mike Hold in '86 @ the league's test game @ Rosemont Horizon & Mike later QB'd Tampa Bay-NFL during the strike in'87 before embarking on a 12-yr. arena football career...This man is not @ fault for the team's misfortunes...The Cobras moved after a surprising playoff run in '02 from Raleigh to Charlotte when the NBA Hornets moved to New Orleans...They let last yrs. coach, Mike Neu go, brought all assistants & hold up from the defunct Augusta Stallions & signed nothing but hard working but overmatched arena retreads or Af2 players & they expect Mike Hold to put these guys in the playoffs?..Give me a break!..Mike has been part of the Arena family for 15 yrs. & he will rebound! Aloha 'til next week! Rich

"Sorry Moose had to delete that about Stamps QB situstion but you  may be correct. Another great Arena report but also talking CFL & NFL." Myk Aussie
