NFL Update: Mr. (Shaved) Dreadlocks, Ricky Williams retires!

"Surprise, surprise, Sgt. Carter." One Gomer Pyle, USMC used to say to his Gunny in the old T.V. show, now consigned to T.V. Land (why won't they show Hawai'i Five-0?!). Anyway, as Dave Wannstedt flies back into the Western Hemisphere, he suddenly finds he has more to worry about than which second string Qb to start, come season opener v. Buffalo; RB Ricky (Overrated) Williams has decided he'd rather (Moose you can't say that) than play Pro Football. Williams, who had too very good years and even won the M.V.P @: the Pro Bowl Myk and I went to in '03, has packed it in three weeks before his 28th B-day. I have one thing to say:"Quitter!" Not that he would've caught Larry Csonka as the Dolphins all-time leading rusher (It really amazes me that Zonk, Mercury Morris and Jim Kick, after twenty-seven years are still 1-2-3 in career rushing for the Dolphins!).

Zonk amassed 6,700 yards in eight 14-game seasons with Miami (1968-69 in the AFL; 1970-74;'79 in the NFL). Zonk also had 421 more in the WFL with the Memphis Grizzlies in '75 and 1,330 more with the New Jersey Nuclear Swamp Giants '76-'78. Williams had 3,225 yards with the Dolphins the last two years but threw 1 block and caught about 2 passes (another J. Brown-type one-dementional "gimme da ball" type, no doubt), while burning himself out. Reminds me some of 9-year-almost great, Tyler Rose Earl ("'Bum' Phillips is my daddy") Campbell, six-and-a-half-yr. flash-in-the-pan Gayle ('I've got the weakest knees ever in Pro Football history') Sayers, Mr. two 6 TD games and nothing else but the wimps in Canton (who obviously hate great players like say, Art Monk?) put him in the Hall of Fame with studs like Zonk, and 26-yr. Ironman George Blanda (who played from leather helmet days ('49), to '76. Williams, who liked to wear dresses and dreadlocks in New Orleans, was an 'El Busto' with the Aint's & got Senator Ditka ('jes kiddin') fired.

It'll be good to see a real RUNNING BACK - a guy who RUN, CATCH, BLOCK & Throw the occasional option pass, play in the 'Fish backfield this season. Larry Csonka might even start watching again. At the Super Bowl M.V.P. Conference Myk and I attended one-and-a-half yrs. ago, Phil Simms, himself a Super Bowl M.V.P asked Zonk what he liked about today's NFL. Zonk thought about it for a minute and without even smiling said, "Not much". Wow. Took the words right out of my mouth. When are the H-o-F folkes in Canton gonna put some more REAL players in there instead of short-timers? Don't bet against Ricky squeezing in there in fifty years on the oldtimers ballot... Wanna Bet?! Thank goodness I won't be around to see it!" Moose

Now that was a shock to me. It seemed like Ricky was happy at the Dolphins after some trouble at the New Orleans Saints. Fri, July 23 04 "I chat with Jessica Simpson as she is in town with NFLer Walter!

Last night walking along Burrard St in Vancouver at 6.00pm I ran into the beautiful Cwoa Jessica Simpson. After filming and briefly meeting the star singer and now TV star on the sidelines of Pro Bowl 2002 I had a pleasant chat with her. She was with a Big fella wearing the legend Walter Peyton jersey. Walter the star NFL running back passed away at age 45 Nov. 3rd, 1999. The Big fella gladly took my business card after hearing me tell Jessica I am the NFL Aussie Media guy.  

What a job guarding one of the most beautiful bodies in the World but it's just a figure of speech as Jessica is recently married to Nick Lachey. The two of them have a very popular TV show called The Newleyweds. Make sure to check out Jessica on NFL Pro Bowl 2000 MYKwebTV Click here " Myk Aussie

Fri, July 16 04 "Four of the 2003 Oakland Riders were busted yesterday for steroid violations! Bill Romanowski MYKwebTV" Myk Aussie

From Moose "The NFLers busted yesterday for steroid violations included former Super Bowl XXXVII AWOL Centre Barrett Robbins, who was charged an NFL record $2234,375.00. Also giigged for steroid abuse were OG Chris Cooper, DT Dana (Stubs) Stubblefield and recently retired, future Hall-Of-Fame, Record five-time Super Bowl LB, Bill Romanowski. Romanowski still wanted to play Pro this year and had been in talks with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who could have used him. But he had trouble with Customs Canada because of assault charges from last Aug. when he beat fellow Raider TE B.Williams up in a fight in '03 preseason, effectively ending his NFL career. The NFL cannot fine Romanowski as he is now retired." Moose
