"NFL Update" Moose Salzer
As Scott Baxter & I sat @ the Nighthawks game Sat. night @ Norfolk
Scope Arena I casually mentioned that 49.9% Nighthawk owner, current
Washington (NFL) DE, Bruce Smith was four (4) sacks away from the NFL's
all time lead, which is true. I also mentioned that former
Memphis Showboat (USFL's) Reggie White also had 32.5 move in the that Pro
League, giving him 231 total Pro Football sacks. Scott agreed but also
added that if sacks were a recorded statistic yrs. ago, Deacon Jones
would be the all time sack leader.
(I would add the caveat that if Blocked Shots had been kept since day one
in the NBA, Bill Russell would be the all time leader!)
Throw into the mix that the CFL kept the sack statistic before the NFL
did & you have the makings of a controversy. So who is the all time
sack leader. Scott says
Deacon Jones, I say Reggie White & in two months, Bruce Smith will
have a chorus of people saying him.
I say; Pro Football is Pro Football no matter what league it is, but
some common sense should be exhibited too. The Sporting News each yr. in
their Pro Football register adds all Pro totals from leagues such as the
NFL, NFL (AAA) E & CFL. They mention in player transactions/notes
that this or that player has played in the Ar.FL, but haven't gone as far
as too record any Arena League
stats to those players career totals. In other words, stuff the X-FL
stats.
I have to give The AFL Roundhouse credit, because in their player
Statistical totals, they do have CFL & X-FL stats too.
Deacon Jones, Reggie White & Bruce Smith. Pretty good company. And
the
ghost sacks of unrecorded past & Leagues that don't count (How 'bout
those stats in the WFL of '74 &'75?) hover...Controversy lives

NFL Punters, an overview: Punters always strike my fancy as I an
ex-punter
myself & holder among other positions. Here is a look @ some of the
more interesting guys that will be plucking the ball downfield in the 2nd
oldest Pro Football League, this season:
Chris Mohr (ex-Montreal), Atlanta Falcons - won't get as much work this
yr. w/ Vick having 2 seasons under his belt...
The original slash, Tom Tupa (QB/P/H/OB/WR), who's caught A 2-pt.
convert. in his career, run for 4, played two plays @ RB w/Jets, Thrown
25 TDs passes & has the third highest average punting in NFL history.
Can you say Hall-of-Fame?. Still w/ the Bucs. The last of the Ohio Glory
(remember them?) left in league. Spent his 1st 10.5 seasons w/ the
Broncos...Also played w/Pittsburgh & N.Y.
Giants last season...Just signed a one-yr. contract w/ the Seahawks.
Two Aussies now!..Myk is lovin' it...San Diego's Darren Bennett, who
should get plenty of work w/Brew Drees @ the pivot & the man he
recommended to ex- San Diego Coach, June Jones - Mat McBriar, who Myk
& I met @ the Hula Bowl last Feb. '03, who is w/ Myk's beloved
Broncos.
Two ex- CFL USA guys from '95, Arizona's Scott Player (Birmingham) &
Josh Miller, who played for my beloved Baltimore Stallions - he's back w/
the Steelers & healthy. My good friend from Friends of the CFL - U S
A, Ken Saroka teaches History @ the High School that Miller

Japanese Moose-mate, Masa Kawaguchi re-signed w/ the San Francisco 49ers
yesterday. Masa has played eight seasons w/ the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL
('AAA') Europe & is the team's all time leading tackler w/ 202 on defense
& special teams. Masa has been the last LB cut by the Dallas Cowboys,
Kansas City Chiefs & Green Bay Packers in previous try-outs.
Speaking of one of Myk's teams Green Bay, the Packers Mike Sherman made a
smart move by signing germaN WR/LS George (Jorg){Baywatch} Heckenbach,
a 6'4", 217 lb'r who played seven seasons in NFL E. 'Heck', as he is
called played the last four seasons w/ Berlin winning two NFL E
Championship rings in '01 & '02...In his seven NFL E seasons w/
Berlin, Frankfurt & the Rhein he caught 65 passes for
759 yds. & 5 TD s...He also acquired the nickname 'Baywatch' while
doing a
walk-through of Baywatch Hawai'i tow yrs. ago when he & his wife were
married in
Hawai'i.
In other NFL signing news, former Univ. of Hawai'i OL Lui Fuata signed
for one yr. w/ the N.Y. Jets. In the NIFL ('AA') playoffs the Omaha Beef
got by the Lincoln
Lightning, 72-49 & the Ohio Grayhounds beat the Lexington Horsemen,
51-42...The Grayhounds have yet to lose a game this season...Myk & I
met Herc & Scott, the co-owners of the Grayhounds last Feb. on the
boardwalk in Honolulu when we
all there for the Pro Bowl...The Grayhounds won the NIFL Championship
last

Washington has gone crazy signing former NFL E players to their training
camp roster lately, some being Virginia kids that are street free agents:
DBs Rashidi Barnes (Frankfurt), Larry Austin (F.C. Barcelona), Jordan
Younger (Amsterdam), DE
Andre Arnold (Berlin). They also placed NFL allocated players WR/KR
Justin Skaggs (Amsterdam) & DB Bruce Branch (Rhein) on the injured
reserve/NFL E list...
I see the Miami Dolphins want to try & make the playoffs after all in
resigning ex-WR Oronde Gadsden, the former Arena League great, for
another year...No doubt @ a cheaper rate...The 2nd Canadian QB is in the
NFL as the Kansas City Chiefs signed former Amsterdam Admiral David
Priestley, cousin of the Hollywood actor, to a two-yr. contract...That
means he'll have to beat out Jonathan Quinn for #3 behind ex-CFL'r Trent
Green & former #1 pick of Buffalo Todd Collins.
The leading National pass catchers in NFL E history now are Scotland's
Scott 'Scoops'
Couper w/ 101 receptions, Frankfurt's Werner Hippler w/ 80 catches (79 in

night looking stunning. Did anyone even notice the hat she was wearing!

Guy surely you have heard of Joe Montana & the San Francisco 49ers or
the Dallas Cowboys & their famous cheerleaders or what about fellow
Aussie Darren Bennett at the San Diego Chargers. You should know The
Chargers played The Denver Broncos at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney don't
you ? Embarrassing!
Americas greatest NFL movie Cwoa babe Cameron Diaz her weapon is being
unleashed again in Charlies Angels Full Throttle. Cameron the star of
many NFL footy movies
reunites with
Drew Barrymore
and Lucy Liu. Wow Demi Moore is in the movie as well & looking
amazing at 40. The 1st Charlies Angels was great.
Wonder if Cameron wants to be in my movie "Football Fan

Former Ar.FL & X-FL QB, Jim Drunkenmiller was released by the
Indianapolis
Colts yesterday for failing to grasp the offence fast enough. The
30-yr.-old former #1 draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers (1997) played
w/ S.F. in '97-'98 before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in
1999.
Druck was cut by the Dolphins in late Aug. '00. He was drafted by the
Memphis Maniax in the Oct. '00 X-FL one & only draft. He played 5
games @ QB for the Maniax in spring of '01 then in the last two games of
the season for the Ar.FL's Los Angeles Avengers after the
X-FL's demise, May 10th, 2001. Druck was an honorable mention all-american
@ Virginia Tech.
He played QB @ VA. Tech before Michael Vick got there...In other NFL

news former Ar.FL K Clay Rush was signed by the N.Y. Jets...Former NFL
14-yr. QB Jeff Rutledge continues to make progress recovering from
