Montreal Alouettes 2002 Grey Cup Champs News compliments of the Alouettes Media & Marketing Dept! 

The 2003 CFL season is barely complete but all eyes at the Montreal Alouettes are looking ahead to the 2004 campaign. Maintaining a successful franchise means the off-season doesn't last six months, or even six days. It's been business as usual since the team returned from Regina on Nov. 17 after their third Grey Cup appearance in three seasons. Here's a brief synopsis of what has been going on and what will happen before training camp opens in May 2004.

Player signings. Within days of returning to Montreal, Alouettes general manager Jim Popp was busy signing players for the upcoming season. On Nov. 19, Popp announced five signings, including a running back who twice rushed for 1,000 yards in the CFL. Darren Davis was added to the Montreal practice roster late in the 2003 season after being released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. As a Saskatchewan Roughrider, Davis exceeded 1,000 yards in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Also inking deals for 2004 were running back Daniel Pugh, cornerback DeShawn Abram and slotbacks Jason Gavadza and Andrew Noel.

Season tickets. Season-ticket subscribers will receive their 2004 packages during the second week of December. There is a modest increase in prices, about 10 per cent. As always, taking advantage of the early-bird specials will allow you save a substantial amount. In response to numerous requests, the Alouettes are making a larger allotment of season tickets available for the 2004 season. Most will be distributed to those on the team's lengthy waiting list, while a portion will be distributed by random selection. The early-bird special deadline is Jan. 9, 2004 while the regular deadline is Feb. 20.

The season ticket prices for 2004 are:

Stadium improvements. The Alouettes are continuing to work towards Phase 2 of plans to enlarge Percival Molson Stadium. A year ago, a $13-million renovation project included a new playing field, increased seating, widened concourses, improved washrooms and created new concession areas.

“We will fine tune our services, all our services towards the customers,“ said Alouettes vice president Claude Rochon. “We listen to what they have to say. We take the complaints and comments and change it for the better.“ Among the plans are pre-game tailgate parties, enriching the fans' game-day experience. Rochon is holding frequent meetings with civic, provincial and federal government officials in pursuit of funding for further stadium work.

“It's not an overnight process,“ said Rochon. “It's not an easy task. It takes time. Right now, no one has shut the door. The fact is we cannot support a CFL franchise with 20,000 seats, that's the key thing.“ The Alouettes are also examining plans for a week-long football festival to be held during the 2004 season.

Locker room visit. The team's annual locker room sale will be held Nov. 29 from noon-3 p.m. at Olympic Stadium. This is an opportunity to meet Alouettes' players and coaches, purchase game-worn Alouettes jerseys, game balls and merchandise from the club's boutique. All boutique items will be 10 percent off, with season-ticket holders receiving a 20 percent discount with their cards.
