 Arena Football Notes -
Newcomer to Arena Footy, Pat Haden, an ex-NFL & WFL reject from the  70's
is crazy to think that New York QB Aaron Garcia is the 'greatest QB in Ar.FL
history'. The guy has never been to an Arena Bowl let alone won FOUR like Jay
Gruden, who was easily the John Elway (only QB to get to five Super Bowls) of
Arena Football. Not just Gruden but what about underrated Shredrick Bonner of
Arizona who has been to four Arena Bowls for the Rattlers? Or Clint Dolezel
(pronounced Doll-zel) of Las Vegas who is 1-0 in Arena Bowls and got to 500 TD
passes faster than any QB in Pro Football history?

Or how about Art Schlichter who took Detroit to two Arena Bowls and won one (and
lost to Gruden in the other)? Or how about the underrated Andy Kelly who took
Nashville to two Arena Bowls in a row (but his team unfortunately lost both)?
Kurt Warner even lost two Arena Bowls. But at least he got to two! And Kelly
threw 17 more TDs in NFL E to give him over 600 Pro TDs! Give me a break. It's
the same deal with the wimps who are salivating about Peyton Manning because
he's a nice guy who puts up big numbers in the NFL regular season. He'll never
win a Super Bowl just like Garcia will never an Arena Bowl just like Khari Jones
will never win a Grey Cup.

I guarantee it. If they do I'll be glad to eat crow since it will prove me
wrong. Some QBs, even Marino and Boomer Esiason, the best lefty ever, are just
not destined to win that elusive Championship. Get over it Pat. Yea, Garcia is
in the top say; seven QBs in Arena history. But best ever. It'll never happen! *
Central Valley Coyotes used to be called the Fresno Frenzy when Ricky Ray QB'd
them in 2002. Oh, somebody asked me the other day who the best QB in the history
of Af2's short history is: Aaron Sparrow, formerly of Norfolk State. He holds
most of the records in Af2; He played for Augusta (Ga.) in '00, Tennessee Valley
(Ala.) in '01, Norfolk in '03 and he's got Wichita off to a 4-0 start this
season.

Way to go Aaron! Another QB worthy of high praise is Ricky Hebert, who retired
after four seasons with Arkansas. 10,000+ yards passing and he beat out former
Heisman winner Andre Ware after three games in the '00 season. His father Bobby
Hebert played for the Michigan Panthers and Oakland Invaders in the USFL & is
the USFL's all time leading passer - every category. He later played 12 more
years in the NFL; 8 with New Orlean and 4 more with the Falcons. He went 1-0 in
Pro Championships winning that first '83 season with Michigan where Ricky was
born. A good Father-Son QB story that beats the Mannings! And speaking of them
(try not to!) how about 'old Archie calling up the Chargers saying, "please
don't draft my OTHER son, Eli." Well bully for the Chargers for drafting him and
then dumping him on the inept Jersey Giants for Phil Rivers of Carolina? Quite
the bargain, eh?" Moose

Week 12 Picks - Arena League:
Grand Rapids over Colorado
Philadelphia over New York San
Jose over Georgia
Orlando over Dallas
Indiana over Arizona
Chicago over Los Angeles
Columbus over Tampa Bay Las
Vegas over Detroit
Norfolk Nighthawks Update:
Where are they now? would have probably been a more appropou title. Doug
Seidenstricker, who's jersey I have autographed at home is now a lawyer. He was
M.V.P that first season in '00. The Ironman of the Year, in '00, Silas Demary
(pronounced 'dim-ry') is still active in the Arena Football League with the Los
Angeles Avengers as a starting TE/DE. In the last few Arena seasons he's played
for Carolina and Buffalo (now Columbus) as well. He spend the '95 CFL season on
the Baltimore Stallions practice squad but did not get a Grey Cup Championship
ring. FB/LB Daryl Richardson ('02-'03) is now playing for Horn Chen and Barry
Switzer's Oklahoma Yard Dawgz of Af2. QB Aaron Sparrow ('03) & OL/DL Rico Ochoa
('02-'03) are playing this season for the Wichita Stealth, who are currently
undefeated at 3-0. In the Arena League KR-OS Travis Burns, who had over 3,000+
yards of offence for Norfolk last season and was with the team for three years
is a starting KR and reserve offencive specialist for the Grand Rapids Rampage,
as is K Steve Scaldiferri ('02-'03) and FB/LB Chris Avery ('00-'01). Gone but
not forgotten, eh, Scott? And if your quick, the Nighthawks site is still up.
You can get a copy of Ona Matthews and the rest of the Ladyhawks, who are
hanging in Cyberspace. Tues,

Ar.FL  / Af2 Update:
Aaron Garcia became the first Arena Football QB to pass for 600 TDs in  his
Arena Pro career. Last week Andy Kelly (599 Arena TDs alone) became the first QB
in Pro Football (all Leagues) history to pass for 600 TDs. Special thanks to the
Green Bay Blizzard of Af2 for the freebees you sent me last week. Extra means my
buddy Scott Baxter will get some too. Radio Update: Didn't get on with Gabriel
Morency until 1:45 in the A.M. with Sportsrage but had a good talk until about
2:00 A.M. about Ar.FL and the CFL. Thanks to A.M. 990 The Team in Montreal.
Merci.

Thanks to the Arena Football League, specifically Vice President Chris
McCloskey, Media's Thomas Goodhines and Thomas Yoshida, Jennifer Boehm and of
course Commissioner C. David Baker for the excellent Arena Football League Fact
and Record Books (both Arena and Af2)! I always want to give the best possible
Arena Football. Reports on the two stations I go on (Montreal and Honolulu).

 Arena / Af2 Notes -

The Predators had a hard decision to make, but Coach Jay Gruden made it and
released former two-time Arena Bowl QB/WR Connell Maynor. He brought back former
X-FL/NFL QB Craig Whielehan, who had knee problems wipe out much of the last two
years. Whielehan played well off the bench in the Preds big win over expansion
New Orleans. But the big news for Gruden and Co. was the return of vet Joe
Hamilton, the
ex-Montreal Alouette and Tampa Bay Bucc, who has also played in the NFL E
'AAA's. Hamilton made the decision easy for Gruden to part with 10-yr Arena vet
Maynor who has player six different positions in the Arena League and used to
back up Jay when Gruden was the man at QB for the Tampa Bay Storm in the early
to mid-'90's. Hamilton, who through 4 TD s and ran for
one more appears to be fully recovered from the knee sprain that kept him out
the last three games.

If Gruden decides to bring Maynor back, if the Preds make the playoffs, they can
always use him at WR/DB/KR or H. But his days as an Arena QB are over. The
Hawai'an Ilsanders amde all kinds of moves last week when Brian Ah Yat, the
ex-Winnipeg Blue Bomber came off the I.R.; they sent former Montana teammate of
Ah Yat's, Randyn Akiona, a WR/WLB to Cape Fear, NC, which is the closest team to
yours truely, Also being moved were three year OL/DL Evile Puna, who was also
the team's kick snapper, and WLB/WR/OB Aaron Smith. OL/DL Jerry 'Big Daddy'
Crafts seems to be out of the woods with the law but the 6'7" 355 b'r hurt
his SHIN in the Detroit Fury's win over Chicago last weekend. He is going onto
the two-game disabled list. Detroit needs 'Big Daddy' back to make a run for the
playoffs. Shalon Baker, a former one-time Edmonton Eskimo Rookie of the year was
released by San Jose. Just too many WR/DBs on the roster. Quad City is my number
one rated Af2 squad this week and San Jose, for the fourth week in-a-row is my
number one rated Arena League squad, in power points." Moose

April 5 04 "MYKwebWORLD
reporter Moose Salzer caught up with Aussie Arena Coach, Doug Sea! Mooses Arena report & scores" Myk Aussie

Moose did this interview last
Thursday before Team 'Down Under's game v. the Columbus WarDogs in the state of Georgia.

Moose: "Team Down Under held their first practice after a 24 hour trip and has
only been in town now 29 hours. How does everybody feel, Coach?"

Doug: "I have to admit, mate, we're struggling a-bit. Despite this we did
practice today. Just a walkthrough but ran about (10) plays."

Moose: "How were the players selected?"

Doug: "Last December, after the third annual Pacific Rim Arena Footie camp,
Presided over by Commish Dave Baker, the Af2 Coaches there and Gridiron,
Australia."

Moose: "How different was the first practice, here?"

Doug: "Well - it was our first ever indoors!"

Moose: "What is the toughest adjustment from Outdoor Footie?"

Doug: "We're well on track, but the speed, speed, speed of indoor footie, in
running plays, etc."

Moose: "What players should we watch for to star in the game, from Team 'Down
Under'?"

Doug: "OS Steve Curwood. QB Glenn Parke. FB/LB Peter Steve and OL/DL Lou Levea-Williams
from New Zealand."

Moose:
"How have you been treated since you arrived into Georgia state."
Doug: "Mate, the hair on the back of my neck stood up when the mayor of Columbus
gave me the key to the city. Says volumes for the Community."

Moose: "What are your thoughts on the WarDogs?"

Doug: "To be honest, not a lot. We really don't know much about them. I know
Coach John Fourcade has been to one Arena Bowl and two Arena Cups, so I imagine
they'll play great."

Moose: "How does this game help the development of Arena Footie back home?"

Doug: "This is a vital step, mate. The game experiences is priceless. To get
into a game that counts and get that experience. The kids will never forget it.
And the yanks will always remember the day those funny talking Aussies came to
town."

"Great stuff Moose & thank you to Doug for spending the time with MYKwebWORLD.
Moose great that you are helping us Aussies & doing a interview like this via
the phone" Myk

Ar.FL Update In the NBC
Studio this weekend was Jim Kubiak, an injured QB with the Detroit Fury. He did
well. The other tow guys in the NBC studio, Glen Trautwig and Al Parker are
starting to become a little better on there broadcasts. At least they look (semi)interested.
The halftime piece on "AAA" Af2 was good but Jay Marcus , who is Dave Baker's
director of Af2 did make one huge glich. When tlaking about Pro Football in general he said
that the NFL & Ar.FL's have been around longer than any other Pro Leagues. Not
true. The CFL goes all the way back to 11 years prior to the NFL. Marcus if he
has any Football in his background, or fore- grounds or even coffee grounds
should have heard about the CFL! Sheesh! Interesting deal in Detroit next season
as Andy Kelly, who now has become the first Ar.FL QB to have thrown for 30,000
in the Ar.FL is a free agernt and Tom and Al Luginbill's buddy Kubiak will be
well enough to play. They can't keep both. Kelly would look great in a Predators
uni, I think (hint-hint!). Kelly also played in NFL E for two seasons with Rhein
and has 600+ career TDs, too. Can you say the Dan Marino of Arenaball?
Especially if he doesn't win the Arena Bowl! The Scores from this weekends
games:

 Columbus 55, Orlando 46
 New York 57, Carolina 41
 Philadelphia 47, Dallas 31
San Jose 62, Tampa BAY 55
 Detroit 42, Georgia 40
 Los Angeles 81, Austin 70
