League Players of Week 3" Myk Aussie
From Neil Reynolds Public

Repeat winners as Davey, Jackson and Heckenbach earn Player of Week awards
THREE players have scooped Player of the Week awards for the second time in the
opening month of the 2004 NFL Europe League season following standout
performances in Week 3.
Quarterback ROHAN DAVEY (New England Patriots) was named Offensive Player of
Week 3 as he led the Berlin Thunder to a 35-31 defeat of the Cologne Centurions
by completing 19 of 27 passes for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns for
a 127.9 passer rating.
Davey became the first quarterback since KERWIN BELL (Orlando Thunder 1991) to
win two Player of the Week awards in the opening three weeks of a season. The
Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots in 2003 also earned
Player of the Week honors in Week 2 when he led the Thunder to victory in
Amsterdam.
Through the opening three games of the 2004 NFLEL season, Davey has compiled a
league-leading passer rating of 122.8 - that is the highest mark of any
quarterback in NFLEL history through three weeks of play, surpassing the
efforts of NFL quarterbacks such as KURT WARNER (105. 7 rating for Amsterdam
1998) and JON KITNA (93.2 for Barcelona 1997).
Thunder head coach RICK LANTZ said: "Rohan Davey is just outstanding and he had
a big-time football game against Cologne on Sunday. He is the complete package
at quarterback and he is always in command. If he continues to play
this way, we will keep winning."
Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Frankfurt Galaxy defensive end COREY
JACKSON (Cleveland Browns), who helped his team record a 28-10 victory over the
Rhein Fire to go 3-0 for the third year in a row. Jackson - who was
named Defensive Player of Week 1 - recorded 4 tackles, 2 sacks and knocked down
a pass against the Fire and he now leads NFL Europe with 5 sacks in three games.
He has also recorded 10 tackles and forced a fumble.
Amsterdam kicker TODD SIEVERS (Houston Texans) earned Special Teams Player of
the Week recognition after his 44-yard field goal gave the Admirals their first
win of the 2004 season, 3-0 in Scotland.
Sievers is the leading American kicker in NFL Europe this season, scoring 11
points in three games, having connected on 3 of 6 field goals and 2 of 2 PATs.
For the second week in a row, Berlin Thunder German wide receiver JÖRG
HECKENBACH was named National Player of the Week. In helping the Thunder record
a 35-31 victory over the Centurions, Heckenbach caught 3 passes for 41 yards and
scored on an 8-yard touchdown strike from Davey.
In the first three games of 2004, Heckenbach has scored 3 touchdowns, matching
his career total heading into this season. He is the club's all-time leading
receiver with 67 catches after adding 5 receptions for 136 yards and 3
touchdowns this season.
Heckenbach - who spent the summer of 2003 in training camp with the Green Bay
Packers - has a receiving average of 27.2 yards per catch this season (highest
among receivers in NFL Europe with more than one reception).

Thanks to Matt Hale and the NFL office for faxing over the 2004-05 season
schedule. Matt Hale likes Mykaussie / MykWebT.V. and he helped me out as well by
sending me the NFL E 2004 Fact and Record Book and shame on me for not
mentioning it last week. Mea Culpa. Here's one 'ole Myk Aussie should like:
Green Bay, Wisc. is the smallest Pro Football market in North America. 102,506
people according to the last census. Smaller than all the CFL team cities. And
like a large number of CFL teams, the Packers, since 1920 have been a community
owned club. No wonder their fans are so great! Reminds me of my beloved
Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL. Packer fans, give your fellow cheesehead
fans a pat on each other's backs!

Thunder pair rewarded for Week 2 showing; Fire and Galaxy playmakers
honoured
TWO Berlin Thunder stars who produced offensive fireworks in Amsterdam at the
weekend have scooped NFL Europe League Player of the Week honours.
Quarterback ROHAN DAVEY (New England Patriots) was named Offensive Player of
Week 2 after he posted a passer rating of 132.6 during Berlin's 28-17 defeat of
the hometown Admirals. Davey - a Super Bowl winner with New England
during the 2003 NFL season - completed 12 of 18 attempts for 164 yards,
2touchdowns and no interceptions.
Through the opening two weeks of the 2004 season, Davey is the top-ranked
quarterback in NFL Europe with a passer rating of 110.2 and has helped the
Thunder get off to a 2-0 start for the first time in team history.
On the receiving end of Davey's touchdown strikes in Week 2 was German wide
receiver JÖRG HECKENBACH, who earned National Player of the Week recognition
after grabbing touchdown receptions of 52 and 43 yards.
Davey said: "I have complete confidence in all my receivers. Heckenbach came
into my reads on both occasions, made great plays and took them to the end zone.
Since we came to NFL Europe, he has really impressed me and when a guy works
that hard you try to get him the football."
Heckenbach, who spent the summer of 2003 in training camp with the Green Bay
Packers, added: "It was a tremendous night. It doesn't often happen that a
national player has two catches for two long touchdowns. It shows our
quarterback trusts me to make those kind of plays. We came away with a win, too,
so I can't really ask for more."
Rhein Fire safety ABDUAL HOWARD earned the Defensive Player of the Week gong for
his outstanding display during his team's 31-3 defeat of the Scottish Claymores.
Howard turned the game completely in Rhein's favour in the third quarter when he
ran back a Nate Hybl interception 79 yards for a touchdown. The second-year
safety also registered 3 tackles, knocked down 1 pass and forced a fumble.
Fire head coach PETE KUHARCHEK said: "The interception return for a touchdown by
Abdual Howard was a key play in the contest and really put the game in our
hands."
Howard, who scored on a 93-yard interception return against the Claymores in a
Week 3 meeting last season, added: "It seems I always do well against Scotland.
They are a tough group so I am just happy we got the win."
Special Teams Player of the Week honours went to Frankfurt Galaxy wide receiver
JERMAINE LEWIS (Houston Texans) who blocked a punt and recovered the loose
football in the end zone during his team's 20-10 defeat of the Cologne
Centurions in Week 2.
The score came at a crucial time in the contest, giving the visiting Galaxy a
14-3 lead early in the fourth quarter. Lewis also added 1 special teams tackle
as Frankfurt improved to 2-0 on the season.

NFL Euro Notes - Hey Pete Vaas, Coach of Cologne. You've lost two games in a
row,
how about throwing the ball to German TE Werner Hippler, the fan' favorite. Look
at how Rick Lantz, the overmatched Coach of Berlin has instructed inexperienced
QB Rohan Davey, from the Super Bowl Champ New England Patriots, to throw to
german WR Jorg Heckenbach when he gets in trouble. Davey didn't hesitate and
'Heck' caught two TDs yesterday in the Thunder's big win v. Amsterdam.
Interesting start to NFL 'AAA' Europe season with three teams now 2-0 and three
0-2. Hhmmm. It's never too late for the bottom feeders in this League, even
though it's a short season. My new number one rated NFL 'AAA' Euro team is.
Berlin! Not that Rohan Davey is anywhere near as good a QB as Rhein's Chad
Hutchinson but Berlin (somehow) is 2-0 to start the year. I don't expect them to
be more than 5-5 when the smoke clears at the end of the year, but we'll see how
they hold up." Moose

From NFL Europe Media: The NFL Europe League
will kick off its 12th season this Saturday, April 3, with some of the NFL’s
top young talent competing abroad, hoping to add to the legacy of NFL Europe
League success stories in the NFL.
The Kickoff Weekend schedule features the
Amsterdam Admirals taking on the defending-champion Frankfurt Galaxy on
April 3, followed by the Cologne Centurions-Rhein Fire and Scottish
Claymores-Berlin Thunder matchups on April 4. |
The impact of NFL Europe is evident, as
237 players with experience in the spring league appeared on NFL rosters in
2003, including Carolina Super Bowl XXXVII quarterback Jake Delhomme, who
led the 1999 Galaxy to a World Bowl victory.
“My time in NFL Europe was a huge factor
in my development,” says Delhomme. “The quarterback position is one of the
toughest in the business, and that’s why NFL Europe is so crucial. Young
players get a chance to play in game situations, and that is something you
don’t get in practice.”
NFL Europe quarterbacks have become as
synonymous with the Super Bowl as Roman numerals, as a quarterback with
experience abroad has started in each of the last three contests (Delhomme,
Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner) |
Chad Hutchinson is among

waynepaulo.com |
A talented group of passers are currently
working to improve their game in
Europe, including Chad Hutchinson (Rhein
Fire/Dallas Cowboys), Gibran Hamdan (Amsterdam/Washington Redskins) and
Rohan Davey (Berlin Thunder/ New England Patriots).
“I am very excited about the opportunity
to prove myself in NFL Europe,” Hutchinson says. “I aim to make the most of
this chance.”
In addition to the influx of NFL talent,
the league is also welcoming a new team with the debut of the Centurions,
led by head coach Peter Vaas.
“I’m thrilled about the chance to build a
winning team for Cologne and to help introduce the NFL Europe League to a
brand new city,” says Vaas.
Some familiar coaching faces are in new
places this season, all vying for a chance to play for a championship at
World Bowl XII on Saturday, June 12 at one of Europe’s most prestigious
venues -- the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Longtime Barcelona Dragons head coach
Jack Bicknell takes the reigns in Scotland, while Rick Lantz, Dragons
offensive assistant in 2003, joins the Thunder, and former Rhein Fire
offensive coordinator Mike Jones hopes to guide Frankfurt to its second
consecutive title
