McCoo rewarded following big Thunder win; Claymores national heroes scoop prizes
FOLLOWING a weekend when he powered his World Bowl-bound team to the top of
the NFLEL standings and took over as the league's leading rusher, ERIC McCOO, of
the Berlin Thunder, has been named Offensive Player of the Week.
Other stars of Week 8 to collect awards were Cologne Centurions defensive
end FELIPE CLAYBROOKS, Scottish Claymores kicker ROB HART and Claymores wide
receiver SCOTT McCREADY, who was honoured for the third time this season.
McCoo - allocated to NFL Europe by the Philadelphia Eagles - gained 187 yards
from scrimmage during Berlin's 31-27 defeat of the Frankfurt Galaxy on Saturday
night in what served as a dress rehearsal for World Bowl XII.
The former Penn State star rushed for 106 yards on 23 carries and added 5
catches for 81 yards, scoring on a 28-yard screen pass from ROHAN DAVEY in the
second quarter. Through eight games this season, McCoo has rushed for a
league-leading 534 yards on 113 carries, scoring on 3 runs. He has added 22
catches for 198 yards and a touchdown.
Claybrooks led a Cologne Centurions defense that held the Rhein Fire to just
six points in a game broadcast on the main FOX TV network in the United States.
The Cleveland Browns-allocated defender recorded 5 tackles, including 3.5
sacks, forced 2 fumbles and knocked down a pass as Cologne ran out 7-6 winners.
On the season, Claybrooks ranks third in NFL Europe with 7.5 sacks and has
recorded 27 tackles and 3 forced fumbles.
Barefoot kicker Hart, who has spent the past two NFL seasons in training
camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002) and Miami Dolphins (2003), was
named Special Teams Player of Week 8 after he kicked a game-winning 43-yard
field goal during Scotland's 19-17 victory over the Admirals in Amsterdam.
Hart, who also earned Player of the Week honours in Week 6, added a 24-yard
field goal and 1 PAT for a total of 7 points. He is currently NFL Europe's
all-time leading scorer with 346 points and he has converted more field goals
(60) than any other player in league history.
Hart has kicked 7 of 10 field goals and 8 of 9 PATs this season for a total of
29 points, ranking him third among NFL Europe kickers.
McCready - who became the first Brit to win a Super Bowl ring as a member of
the 2001 New England Patriots - was named National Player of the Week for the
third time this season.
The sure-handed, London-born wide receiver caught 7 passes for 91 yards and
added 1 run for 7 yards during the Claymores two-point victory in the
Netherlands. McCready leads NFL Europe with 47 receptions for 414 yards and
1 touchdown this season and is bidding to become the first national player
in league history to lead a major statistical category outside of kicking.
McCready's other Player of the Week awards came in Weeks 1 and 7.

Hicks grabs second Player of Week prize; National pair rewarded for Week 7
displays
FRANKFURT Galaxy league-leading rusher SKIP HICKS has been named NFL Europe
Offensive Player of Week 7 following his game-winning performance against the
Scottish Claymores last Sunday.
Hicks, who tops NFL Europe with 458 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns (7 rushing, 2
receiving) this season, rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries against Scotland and
scored on runs of 2 and 9 yards.
Those first half touchdowns gave Frankfurt a 21-3 lead in a game they went on to
win 27-24 in front of more than 26,000 fans at the Waldstadion. Hicks also set
up a second half Galaxy field goal with a 59-yard sprint to the Claymores'
8-yard line.
Galaxy head coach MIKE JONES says of his star running back: "I will tell Skip
Hicks to keep up the good work following his showing against the Claymores. He
has done a great job for us up to this point of the season. Skip has been a big
part of our offense and I have to take my hat off to him because he has produced
some great performances."
Hicks was also named Offensive Player of Week 4.
Amsterdam Admirals defensive end CHARLES ALSTON (Atlanta Falcons) was named
Defensive Player of Week 7 after he recorded 4 tackles and 2 quarterback sacks
during his team's 17-10 defeat of the Cologne Centurions on Saturday.
Alston spearheaded an Amsterdam defense that forced five Cologne turnovers in
the Amsterdam Arena. Through seven games, he leads the Admirals with 5
quarterback sacks, ranks third on the team with 35 tackles and has batted down 5
passes at the line of scrimmage.
Danish kicker HEINZ QUAST scooped Special Teams Player of the Week honors for
his perfect day during the Berlin Thunder's 33-20 defeat of the Rhein Fire,
which booked RICK LANTZ's team a berth in next month's World Bowl.
Quast connected on field goals of 21, 21, 24 and 28 yards and tacked on 3 of 3
PATs for a 15-point haul against the Fire. The NFLEL rookie has kicked 5 of 5
field goals and 22 of 24 PATs this season to lead all kickers with 37 points.
English wide receiver SCOTT McCREADY picked up his second National Player of the
Week award of the season following another performance which highlighted just
how important he is to the Scottish Claymores.
McCready - who won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the 2001 New England
Patriots - caught 8 passes for 71 yards during the Claymores' three-point loss
to Frankfurt.
McCready leads NFL Europe with 40 receptions for 323 yards and 1 touchdown this
season and is bidding to become the first national player to end a campaign
leading one of the major statistical categories apart from kicking. McCready's
first Player of the Week award in 2004 came in Week 1 following an impressive
display against the Berlin Thunder.

Fire's Hutchinson among two Cowboys honoured; Claymores' Hart rewarded for
record points haul
RHEIN Fire quarterback CHAD HUTCHINSON (Dallas Cowboys) has been named NFL
Europe's Offensive Player of Week 6 following an outstanding display of
efficiency during his team's 20-13 defeat of the Amsterdam Admirals last
Sunday.
Also among this week's award winners was Scottish Claymores kicker ROB HART, who
became NFL Europe's all-time leading points scorer during his club's 15-13 loss
to Frankfurt, Berlin Thunder safety KEITH DAVIS (Dallas Cowboys) and Claymores
wide receiver HERB HAYGOOD (Kansas City Chiefs).
Hutchinson - who started nine games in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys in 2002 -
showed his big-league pedigree in leading the Fire to .500 on the season (3-3).
The former Major League Baseball pitcher completed 20 of 27 passes for 263
yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for a quarterback rating of 129.1.
Paying tribute to Hutchinson, Fire head coach PETE KUHARCHEK said: "Chad played
a super game and he made some key throws at the end when we wanted to keep a
drive alive to run out the clock."
Speaking of his NFL Europe experience, Hutchinson added: "I love playing in NFL
Europe. The fans are really noisy and we have great support here for the Rhein
Fire. Playing in NFL Europe is the best thing for me - it is huge because I
needed the reps to get experience.
"I have confidence in my own ability but this was all about getting experience
and I will have had that in these 10, hopefully 11, games with the Rhein Fire.
We are still in the World Bowl hunt but we probably have to win all our games
from here on out to get in. We can do that."
Davis - also allocated to NFL Europe by the Cowboys - was named Defensive Player
of the Week after he recorded 3 tackles, knocked down 3 passes and recorded 2
interceptions in the fourth quarter during Berlin Thunder's 28-27 loss to the
Cologne Centurions.
Both interceptions set up scoring opportunities for the Thunder, putting Berlin
in position for JONATHAN RUFFIN (Dallas Cowboys) and HEINZ QUAST to convert
field goals. Through six games, Davis leads NFL Europe with 3 interceptions and
has added 40 tackles and 9 pass defenses.
Haygood was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he returned a kickoff
95 yards for a touchdown during Scotland's home loss to Frankfurt. It proved to
be Scotland's only touchdown of the day.
Haygood added 5 receptions for 55 yards on the day. This season, he has caught
10 passes for 100 yards and returned 3 kickoffs for 126 yards (42.0 average).
Barefoot English kicker Hart - who has spent the past two summers in NFL
training camps with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002) and Miami Dolphins (2003) -
became NFL Europe's leading scorer by converting field goals of 24 and 43 yards
and adding a PAT against Frankfurt.
Now in his seventh NFLEL season, Hart's career points tally stands at 333,
moving him past JESUS ANGOY, who scored 329 points for the Barcelona Dragons
from 1997-2003.
Claymores head coach JACK BICKNELL, who also coached Angoy when he was in charge
of the Barcelona Dragons from 1991-2003, said: "Jesus was a real good kicker and
Rob is obviously in that class too. Rob is a quality kid and a real competitor.
I was happy he had the opportunity to break the record."
Claymores general manager STEVE LIVINGSTONE added: "Rob's contribution to the
Claymores and the NFL Europe League has been immense. To eclipse Jesus Angoy's
record is a huge achievement and a reflection of how consistent Rob has been
down the years."

Davey grabs Player of Week prize for third time; Claymores' hero McClain
rewarded after first win
BERLIN Thunder quarterback ROHAN DAVEY (New England Patriots) has been named NFL
Europe's Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in the opening five
weeks of the 2004 season.
With half of the regular season still to go, Davey has tied a league record by
being honoured as an offensive star for the third time. The only others to win
three Offensive Player of the Week prizes in one season are QB WILL FURRER
(Amsterdam 1996), QB JON KITNA (Barcelona 1997), QB JONATHAN QUINN (Berlin
2001), RB MIKE GREEN (Barcelona 2001) and RB KEN SIMONTON (Scotland 2003).
Davey was rewarded after he completed 10 of 17 passes for 149 yards, 4
touchdowns and no interceptions during Berlin's 33-29 defeat of the Amsterdam
Admirals. The Super Bowl winner compiled a passer rating of 127.2 and also
scored on a 1-yard run. That performance helped Berlin become the fourth team in
NFLEL history to open a season with five straight wins.
Davey tops NFL Europe with a passer rating of 116.3 having completed 66 of 102
passes for 896 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Thunder head coach RICK LANTZ says: "Rohan Davey is becoming a real leader of
our football team. He is doing things extremely well and he is making clutch
plays. I am excited about him. He has been well coached in college and in the
NFL and he just needed playing time. The Patriots wanted to see him under
pressure and we are putting him under more pressure than we would like because
our games have been so close."
Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Scottish Claymores linebacker JIMMY
McCLAIN (Jacksonville Jaguars), who recorded 11 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass
defense during his team's first victory of the season against the Rhein
Fire.
McClain spearheaded a tough Scotland defense that limited the Rhein Fire to no
touchdowns and just four field goals during the Claymores' 13-12 victory at
Glasgow's Hampden Park. For the season, McClain ranks second on Scotland's
defense with 36 tackles and 1 sack.
Speaking of his performance against the Fire, McClain said: "That ranks right up
there as one of the best games I have played during my football career. It was
good to be at the heart of the defensive effort and to help my team win."
Fire kicker MIKE SHAFER - allocated to NFL Europe by the Buffalo Bills - was
named Special Teams Player of the Week as he kicked field goals of 48, 45 and 41
yards against the Claymores.
Mexican wide receiver CARLOS ROSADO - who spent the summer of 2003 in training
camp with the New York Jets - was named National Player of the Week after he
shone during Amsterdam's four-point loss in Berlin.
Rosado led all Admirals receivers with 6 catches for 96 yards and scored the
first touchdown of his seven-year career on a 29-yard reception from CLINT
STOERNER (Miami Dolphins). In the opening half of the 2004 campaign, Rosado has
caught 14 passes for 218 yards and 1 touchdown.
Admirals head coach BART ANDRUS said: "Carlos Rosado had a big game for us
against Berlin. To see him catch his first career touchdown in NFL Europe was a
special moment."
