Fri Feb 24th 06 "Canada the reigning Gold Medalist's in Men's Hockey are done, defeated 2-0 by the Russians in the Quarter Finals! Millions of Canadian's are annoyed! NHL MYKwebTV!" Myk Aussie

Refer below Sat Feb 18th to my Roots story and why CDN's are now winning more medals at the Olympics.

Men's Quarter Final. Russia 2, Canada 0! Even though it was a better effort than in most of the Olympic games the Canadian Men's Hockey team were outplayed, out shot and outscored 2-0 to loose to the Russians. Canadian goalie Martin Brodeur was again very good but he could not shut out the Russians lead by star NHL rookie Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin scored the winning goal and he was lightening quick and skillful throughout the game to win my 3 votes. The Canadian viewers on CBC also voted him best. Alexa Kovalev scored the 2nd goal for the Russians. Russian goalie Evgeni Nabokov was also brilliant getting the shut out.

There were many silly unnecessary penalties given away by the Canadians. Todd Bertuzzi gave away the penalty that resulted in the Ovechkin goal and thus Todd now even more than before is disliked/hated by many hockey fans in Canada. There were so many very average/ terrible performances by the Multi Million dollar Canadian NHL Men. It was good to see Maple Leafs defenseman Brian McCabe play well against the Russians after he copped it from the media for not playing very well throughout the Olympics.

As per what many of the sports show hosts and callers are saying, it was so obvious that they were "slow" on the bigger Olympic Ice surface. Many are saying and I agree with this, is the year off because of the greedy players NHL lockout last year along with the way too many NHL games schedule showed that the players were simply not up to at this years Olympics. Very, very disappointing! I am a Huge Canadian Men's Olympic Hockey fan and I personally care more about the Canadian men doing well in the Olympics than the Stanley Cup. For people that don't know this, Ice Hockey is Huge in Canada, the most popular sport by a mile and thus many Canadians are really pissed off by this horrid performance.

Get this, starting next week the Calgary Flames have to play 25 games in 49 days! How stupid it that. I'm sure the other NHL teams schedules will be similarly ridiculous.

Wed Feb 22nd 06 "Canada the reigning Gold Medalist's in Men's Hockey finally have a win as they defeat the Czech's 3-2! Canada to play the Russians today in the Quarter finals! Canadian Women win Gold again!" Myk Aussie

Canadian Men won on Tuesday morning Canadian time over the Czech's but it was not convincing at all as the Czechs out shot Canada 12-2 in the third and 33-16 overall. Canada jumped to 3-0 lead at the 1st Period but a couple of those goals were very lucky as Czech back up goalie Tomas Vokoun looked like he'd taken a possible "Operation Slap Shot" bribe! Now I'm not saying that has happened with Operation Slap Shot and the hockey players but people are still wondering who is involved and what has happened. I'm just saying it was average goaltending that's all especially when Canada's Multi Million Dollar NHL Men really needed to get some goals on the board and confidence after being shut out in the past two games.

Martin Brodeur the Canadian #1 goalie was very good, saving lots of shots however a possible knee injury is the worry as Canada now gets ready for the do or die Quarter Final today 12.30pm Mountain time against the Russians. Lets hope they can improve otherwise they will be crying and medal less later today. Go Canada!

Congratulations to the Canadian Women's Hockey team on winning the Gold medal yesterday against the Swede's 4-1.

Mon Feb 20th 06 "Canada the reigning Gold Medalist's  loose 2 games in a row in the Olympic Men's Hockey, 2-0 against the Swiss and 2-0 against the Fin's! Why the Canadian Olympic Committee dumped Roots clothing?" Myk Aussie

I like nearly every Canadian looked forward to watching Sunday's game. The many NHL stars on the Canadian Men's Hockey team needed to win after a shocking defeat to the Swiss. However the Finland players absolutely hammered the Canadians in the 1st period. They scored twice and  had another 12 shots on goal to Canada's 5 to lead 2-0 after the 1st period. Teemu Selanne scored 1st with the assist coming from Saku Koivu and then Niko Kapanen
scored. Canada goaltender Roberto Luongo played very well early but could not shut them out in the 1st period. The Fin's were definitely quicker and more aggressive as well.

At this stage which was about 1.30pm Mountain time many Canadian men, Cwoc's and Awoc's that were enjoying beers with their mates started drinking quicker in worried ness as their hero's were completely outplayed. Plus with a holiday on Monday here in Alberta for Family Day many knew they could sleep off the extra beers and no doubt parties were planned all over Canada and especially Alberta.

The 2nd and 3rd Periods saw a better effort from Canada but the NHL star forwards could not score a goal. Fin's goalie Antero Niittymaki was very good and no doubt this will be a highlight for him, shutting out the reigning Gold Medalists.

Canada are now a terrible 2-2. They play the Czech team Tuesday morning, 8.30am Mountain Time so I'll be up watching this game for sure. Below is the remaining schedule.

Canada is doing better in this Olympics than in recent games. The Roots Clothing looked nice but it did not help performance instead the men and Cwoc's were having too much fun I heard.  Refer to Sat Feb 18thg report below as to why.

I really enjoy watching the Men's Olympic Hockey. Country vs Country is awesome and the wider Ice arena makes it more open and more exciting hockey than the NHL.

After the Canadians arrived and defeated the Italians easily they had a good win on Thursday over the Germans. Canadian goal scorers were Redden, Captain Sakic, Gagne. Heatley and Doan. Ehrhoff scored for Germany.

I got to watch all of this game, well except for the few minutes when disgustingly CBC Canadian TV switched over to men's figure skating. This was crazy! I can't believe they interrupted the hockey for men's figure skating, Hmmm millions of Canadians would have been wild like I was especially those without $40 a mth cable!!!! Then it was even funnier as possible Canadian Medalist Emanuel Sandhu fell flat on his ass twice after missing his jumps. He then pulled out of a couple of other jumps as well. How's that, he had millions of Canadian Hockey fans watching him only to completely screw up and have a absolute shocker.

Luckily when the next Canadian figure skater came on I realized that TSN had the hockey on as well so I quickly switched over to TSN who were receiving the feed from CBC. I don't really get that, men's Figure skating as a sport but everyone to his own I suppose.

Get this, this is funny as well. I heard on Calgary sports radio that TSN media were not accredited for the Olympic games and CBC guys were not helping them at all thus a fight between CBC and TSN media guys. Apparently TSN Hockey expert Bob McKenzie is over there not accredited thus he has to buy tickets to report on the games. Wow, CDN Media fighting with each other. That's funny I think.

Wayne Gretzky and his new Roots clothing line! is now in some more Hot sports talk this week as he has a new line of clothing coming out from Roots. Some Canadian Media are upset as Wayne wanted to stay out of the spotlight but then Roots announce this on Wednesday. Hmmm not sure about this one as Roots lost the Canadian Olympic clothing contract and Wayne apparently shouldn't be wearing Roots clothing at the Olympics.

Why do you think Canada went so bad in the summer Olympics in Sydney Australia in 2000???? Think about it all the Canadian Cwoc babes getting off the plane in Australia and walking around Sydney in their Roots clothing, they had so many offers from Aussie men that they couldn't concentrate on performing on the track! Same with the Canadian guys also wearing their Roots clothing, the Aussie babes were all over them. I seems the Canadian Olympic Committee made a wise decision in not re doing the Roots clothing contract!

To a Aussie the name "Roots" clothing is hilarious. What is "getting a Root" if you are a Aussie mean???? Can you guess?  For my Aussie Lingo Click here

Contd from yesterday...... It was amazing talk all day yesterday and last night on Sports radio. Calgary's QR77 Mark Stephen and Jock Wilson believe that Wayne should not go to the Olympics as Canadian Manager as he will be too much of a distraction. I have mixed feeling on this as I do agree that the media will be all over him and want to talk to every Canadian athlete about the Big Operation Slap Shot gambling and money laundering story instead of the Olympic events themselves. The athletes deserve the publicity!

 I've been to three Super Bowl weeks in the NFL Media Centre's and I've seen 1st hand how crazy the media can make a small story into something huge. In many ways it's disgraceful but I suppose as human beings many love the gossip! The reason the media are all over Wayne is because his wife Janet has admitted to placing some bets with Rick Tocchet's alleged huge gambling ring.

Canadian legend goalie Martin Brodeur was today on The Jim Rome show saying that he is looking forward to seeing Wayne at the Olympics. He believes Wayne should still go.

I will continue to report on this story as I am mostly against gambling. Funny thing was I was so confident in a Steelers Super Bowl win I was thinking of for the 1st time ever going to bet on the Super Bowl. In the end I did not as I did not want to be barracking for the Seahawks but having money on the Steelers plus I just don't like to bet and very rarely do it at all. Even at the great Horse Racing events in Australia I was more concerned with meeting and chatting up the Aussie babes than betting. I have also seen a SANFL Aussie Footy player mate get so caught up in gambling it was ridiculous and sad.

Thurs, Feb 9th 06 "Operation Slap Shot is all the talk as Phoenix Coyotes Assistant Coach Rick Tocchet seems to be the ring leader in the betting, money laundering  scandal! NHL MYKwebTV!" Myk Aussie

Wow! This is all the talk over here in Canada and the USA on the radio sports talk shows, on TV and in the press just before the Winter Olympics in which Canada is again the favourite to win the Gold medal despite some recent injuries especially to defensemen.
 
Authorities in the USA say from Dec. 29 through to Feb. 5 Super Bowl day bettors placed a total of $1.7 million in wagers with the ring run by a New Jersey state trooper, Phoenix Coyotes Assistant Coach Rick Tocchet and a South Jersey man. All face charges of promoting gambling, money laundering and conspiracy and are scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Mount Holly on Feb. 21, the state Attorney General's office said Thursday.

Now they are dragging "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky into this as apparently his wife actress Janet Jones has placed some bets. They are also saying NHL players are involved but no one knows yet if they were betting on NHL games or just the other sports that they are allowed to if it is legal betting. NHL Hockey players are prohibited from making NHL bets, legal or otherwise. There are however no rules that stop them from betting on other sports.

The media is going Crazy over here. Today they are suggesting Wayne Gretzky should maybe not go to the Olympics as Team Canada boss. All I can say is innocent until proven guilty especially with the Great One but as normal especially if you grow up in Australia it is always "knock the tall poppy." ie Criticize, Bag, talk about them, the famous people at every possible chance just like "some" Aussie CPWETPSK out there that used to Bag the great Greg Norman and even the stunning famous "The Body" Elle McPherson for no or very little reason. That's one area were American sports fans kicks but over Australia sports fans. Americans idolize their sports people whereas too many Aussie like to be CPWETPSK. I'm sure this Operation Slap Shot story will be in the news for quite awhile.

Thurs, Feb 2 06 "I meet and interview Flames Stanley Cup 89 member Ric Nattress! Moose's hockey report!" Myk Aussie

After approximately 23 years Wally Honey's sports bar in Calgary closed on Saturday night due to the big boys coming in and building a multi story complex. Wally's bar has had many sports greats visit over the years including Flames Ric Nattress a regular. It is a well known story amongst Calgarian's that have visited this great bar that after the Flames won the 89 Stanley Cup they arrived back in Calgary late at night and after a phone call from Ric to Wally the whole team partied at the bar well into the morning.

Interviewing Ric late at night on this last night Ric told me that his years at the Flames were fantastic with the 89 Stanley Cup win being the highlight. He also said his time at the Montreal Canadians was enjoyable as he learnt about the NHL in his early years. He said the Montreal Canadians are a class organization. I have some MYKwebTV from this night with the highlight showing close up Ric's 89 Stanley Cup ring. Ric likes the flames chances this year while he sees the Ottawa Senators as the favorite in the East.
