The Flames trade Dion Phaneuf the young star/former star defender to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I thought he would have gone to the LA Kings. Seems what I said on The Jim Rome show over a year ago about Dion has helped in him being a "Mr Hollywood" type lately and very sadly coming true. Listen now! I believe this is a win situation for both teams!
Going to the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Calgary Flames go defenceman Dion Phaneuf and Keith Aulie and winger Fredrik Sjostrom. To the Calgary Flames come defenceman Ian White and forwards Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Jamal Mayers. Scotty my Calgary mate a huge Flames fan likes the trade.
It has become common knowledge recently in Calgary that Dion is a "Mr Hollywood" type very sadly as Dion had been one of my favourite players in the NHL until recently. 2 years ago I thought Dion would have been on the Canadian Olympic Hockey team barring injury for sure for next months Winter Olympics. He is not. I think it is a win situation for both teams. Dion now the main defenceman at the Leafs I believe will again play many minutes each game and great aggressive hockey. I look forward to watching him play in Toronto hoping that he can live up to his great form of 2 years ago. I believe this trade has dented his ego.

Arthur's thoughts on the Flames trades!
"I am happy the Flames decided to make some moves now and not wait til to close to the deadline. I am sad to see Dion leave town but we got some good players back. They didn't really show much in their first game but I think the next couple months will help them turn it around.
I am happy to see Jokinen go, he has under achieved big time. He just didn't seem to fit in any where. I really think the Flames will make the playoffs, but where they will go is up in the air. I hope they can maybe bring in another high end player, but that is a pretty big wish. I know Brent Sutter is a good coach and I hope things work out." Arthur.
From Wed Dec 20, 09. The 2010 Canadian Mens Winter Olympic Games 23 man team is named! Below is in alphabetical order. Where the player is from in Canada and who they play for in the NHL!
Forward players.
Patrice Bergeron, L'Ancienne-Lorette, Que. (Boston Bruins)
Sidney Crosby, Cole Harbour, N.S. (Pittsburgh Penguins) Named a Alternate captain.
Ryan Getzlaf, Regina, Sask. (Anaheim Ducks)
Dany Heatley, Calgary, Alta. (San Jose Sharks)
Jarome Iginla, St. Albert, Alta. (Calgary Flames) Names a Alternate captain
Patrick Marleau, Aneroid Sask. (San Jose Sharks)
Brenden Morrow, Carlyle, Sask. (Dallas Stars)
Rick Nash, Brampton, Ont. (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Mike Richards, Kenora, Ont. (Philadelphia Flyers)
Corey Perry, Peterborough, Ont. (Anaheim Ducks)
Eric Staal, Thunder Bay, Ont. (Carolina Hurricanes)
Joe Thornton, St. Thomas, Ont. (San Jose Sharks)
Jonathan Toews, Winnipeg, Man. (Chicago Blackhawks)
Defence players.
Dan Boyle, Ottawa, Ont. (San Jose Sharks)
Drew Doughty, Ottawa, Ont. (LA Kings)
Duncan Keith, Penticton, B.C. (Chicago Blackhawks)
Scott Niedermayer, Cranbrook, B.C. (Anaheim Ducks) - Named Captain.
Chris Pronger, Dryden, Ont. (Philadelphia Flyers) - Named a Alternate captain.
Brent Seabrook, Tsawwassen, B.C. (Chicago Blackhawks)
Shea Weber, Sicamous, B.C. (Nashville Predators)
Goalies.
Roberto Luongo, Montreal, Que. (Vancouver Canucks)
Martin Brodeur, Montreal, Que. (New Jersey Devils)
Marc-Andre Fleury, Sorel, Que. (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Amazingly and sadly only 2 of these players play for Canadian NHL teams, Legend Jarome Iginla for the Calgary Flames and Roberto Luongo for the Vancouver Canucks.
Canada seem to be favored to win the Gold Medal with the Russians being their main opposition. The Mens Hockey at the upcoming Winter Olympics I will be following intensely.
Canadian Team comments from Arthur!
"It's really hard to complain when there is so much talent out there. We could easily field 2 teams with the embarrasment of riches we have. My only complaint was they couldn't find a spot for Jay Bouwmeester. I have a feeling he will end up on the taxi squad. I am happy with the forwards selected. The goalies were the easy part. I was also surprised how accurate the TSN pannel was in predicting the team that was picked. Only two mistakes, I believe they should have had Bouwmeester instead of Doughty and Carter over Richards." Arthur

From Sat Oct 31. Theo Fleury's book "Playing with Fire" is excellent reading! The best interview/story so far was on CBC's The Fifth Estate. Watch it now, link is below!
Theo Fleury was a great NHL Hockey player most of his career with the Calgary Flames. His new book is great reading. An amazing Life story. Him blowing close on the $40 million that he made playing hockey on booze, cocaine, strippers, gambling etc, he buying a gun and about to kill himself, he now admitting to being sexually abused many times by his agent as a teenager, he now being sober the past 4 years, now helping people, his comeback and retirement in the NHL a few weeks ago. I received a email yesterday from Jim Balsillie AKA Mr Blackberry entitled "To all Make It Seven supporters."!
I've been 100% supporting Jim and its disappointing that he hasn't "again" succeeded in his huge desire to own a NHL team and relocate it to Eastern Canada. On this occasion it was the seriously in debt/bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes. I'm not sure why some Canadian media don't like Jim and what he is trying to do. Maybe they just are too negative or they are jealous of the millions of dollars that he has made mainly selling Blackberry phones.
There is a huge Eastern Canadian hockey market with one terrible under achieving and rich team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. There are several US teams in cities in debt. In these cities many/most people don't even care or follow Hockey and that includes fans of other sports. Hmmm, I'm confused as to why a 7th team isn't in Canada. Below is the latest email from Jim Balsillie on the eve of the NHL season.
"To all Make It Seven supporters. From the beginning, my attempt to relocate the Coyotes to Hamilton has been about Canadian hockey fans and Canadian hockey. It was a chance to realize a dream. All I wanted was a fair chance to bring a seventh NHL team to Canada, to serve the best unserved hockey fans in the world. I believe I got that chance. I respect the court's decision, and I will not be putting forward an appeal.
Nobody can deny that we are now a big step closer to having a seventh NHL team in Canada. It doesn't matter who owns that team. When that day comes, I will be the first in line to buy a ticket to the home opener.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my family for all their love and support. I also want to thank the more than 200,000 fans who supported the bid online and the countless others who contacted me personally to show their support. This bid always was about the game we all love. Thank you." Jim Balsillie
Refer below for previouos news on Jim's desire to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.
From Sat Aug 8, 09. Champ Sidney Crosby takes The Stanley Cup to his Canadian home on his 22 birthday!
In Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia Sidney paraded The Stanley Cup in front of approximately 25,000 hockey fans on his 22 birthday. This would have been a huge highlight for the young Champ Canadian hockey player who is also the captain of the Pittsburg Penguins, the 2009 Stanley Cup Champions. Each player of the winning Stanley Cup team gets to take the famous cup to their home town. Refer above to when the famous Cup was in Kelowna and I was lucky enough to drink from it.
The Pittsburg Penguins win The Stanley Cup. They defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in Game 7 in Detroit!
What a great game it was. The Penguins were up 2-0, the Red Wings scored in the 3rd period to make it 2-1. But great defense by the Penguins and great goaltending by Penguins Marc-Andre Fleury held off the Red Wings onslaught. Canadian Champ Sidney Crosby the Captain of the Penguins knee was injured early in the 2nd Period as he was slammed into the sideboards. Sidney came back for one short shift in the 3rd period but was not able to continue.
Maxime Talbot scored both of the Penguins goals while Jonathan Ericsson scored for the Red Wings. Penguins Evgeni Malkin the big man and star forward from Russia won the Conn Smythe Trophy for the Best player in the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's a great moment in sport to see each of the winning teams players scate around the ice holding the Cup above their heads. Congratulations to the Penguins.
Gary Bettman's dig at the possible Phoenix Coyotes relocation saga as he hands the Cup to Sidney Crosby!
Gary Bettman the NHL commissioner presented The Stanley Cup to Sidney Crosby stating how it was great that the Penguins were saved several years ago after financial trouble, staying in Pittsburg and to now see them win the Cup. A obvious statement by Gary with the current Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy and possible/hopeful relocation to Canada. Can't agree with you in the Phoenix situation though Gary. Refer below.
Thurs June 11. Game 7 of The Stanley Cup is Friday night in Detroit as the Pittsburg Penguins try to defeat the Detroit Red Wings!
Hopefully this is a great game 7. The Red Wings are favoured to win at their home arena and thus go Back to Back.

From Thurs May 7. Make it seven, meaning seven NHL teams in Canada. Finally Jim Balsillie "Mr Blackberry" should get to own a NHL team! I and many other hockey fans believe the currently bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes must be relocated to Southern Ontario!
Here we go again as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is again defending his ridiculous stance of keeping certain NHL teams in "no chance" USA markets as Gary tries to save the Phoenix Coyotes from going bankrupt. Surely this time the NHL owners will stand up to Gary and grant Jim Balsillie "Mr Blackberrry" a NHL franchise. From Thurs April 30. Ooch again! Now there is only 1 CDN team left after the 1st Playoff Round, the Vancouver Canucks!
The Calgary Flames were beaten by the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games, 4 games to 2. The Montreal Canadians were beaten by the Boston Bruins in 4 games, 4 games to 0. The Vancouver Canucks defeated the St Louis Blues in 4 games, 4 games to 0 and advanced to Round 2. They play the ChicagoBlackhawks in the 1st game of Rd 2 tonight in Vancouver. If Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo can be great I believe the Canucks can defeat the young and very quick Blackhawks.
From Fri April 17. The NHL Playoffs have started! Only 3 Canadian teams are in, damn it!
The playoffs started on Wednesday night with a Vancouver Canucks win over the St. Louis Blues. On Thurday night the Calgary Flames blew a 2-1 lead and then lost in the 1st few seconds of overtime to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Montreal Canadians also lost the the Boston Bruins. It's unfortunately again not looking very good for a Canadian team to win The Stanley Cup. I hope I am wrong. The Vancouver Canucks I believe should win the series against the Blues while the Flames are a chance against the Blackhawks but without Robyn Regehr the excellent defender they may be in trouble.

From Feb 24. "Recent
Power Plays. Rangers axe coach." Bob
Bagley, hockey
betting consultant.
The
NHL’s longest active streak of consecutive games played ended Saturday night,
February 21st. Minnesota Wild left wingman Andrew Brunette missed the
game against the Detroit Red Wings, the first game he has missed since December
31, 2001. His streak ended at 509 games. Brunette left Thursday night’s game
against the Calgary Flame in the first period due to a lower-body injury. He
skipped practice Friday, but skated Saturday morning before receiving additional
treatments. His inability to be on the ice against Detroit was disappointing to
him and the Wild.
Andrew
has 13 goals and 19 assists in his return to Minnesota this year after spending
the last three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche. Prior to his stint in
Denver, the 13-year veteran had played 3 years with the Wild. It’s a safe hockey
bet that he will begin a new streak quickly. He loves
to be on the ice in the battle.
With a
mere 21 games remaining in a less than glamorous season the New York Rangers
have axed Head Coach Tom Renney. With the team on the brink of playoff exclusion
after being on top of the Eastern Conference earlier in the season, Renney
became the sacrificial lamb. Never mind that the players are so out of synch
that they have lost 10 of the last 12. Never mind that Renney guided the team to
the second round of the playoffs for the last two seasons. Never mind that the
coach is unable to score one goal or even slap one puck… when a team loses too
many games the owners always think it’s the coach’s fault.
Now,
maybe, the players can suck it up and act like at team again for the “fresh
blood” they’ll have in the coach’s spot… or not. Sometimes you have to
get rid of players with bad attitudes… not coaches trying to make the team the
best it can be. Conveniently, the Rangers can now say it was all the coach’s
fault. Too bad the team’s statistics don’t back up their claim." Bob

Green
is Gold!
Last Saturday night in Tampa, Florida, Mike Green did something never done
before in the NHL. He scored in his eighth straight game, a record for
defensemen. Scoring from the low-slot on a power play at the 5:33 mark in the
second period, he was summarily mobbed by his teammates there on the ice.
Green’s goal surpassed Boston’s Mike O’Connell’s record of seven
straight set in 1983-1984. His score made it 4-0 for his Washington Capitals,
who went on to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1. An elated Mike Green was
found covered with shaving cream after the win. “It’s incredible. I’m
playing with some of the best players in the world,” the modest defenseman
crowed.
The game was the fifth win in seven for the Southeast Division leading
Capitals. It’s a good hockey
bet that if Green continues on his streak the Caps will continue their
winning ways. Coach Bruce Boudreau has been given a lot of credit for
Green’s improved offensive ability. He has responded by saying: “"He
could have had Mickey Mouse coaching and eventually he was going to be a great
hockey player. I'm just happy I'm the one who right now is able to coach
Mike." The coach posted his eighth win against the Lightning without a
loss.
Also
receiving the post-game shaving cream treatment was goalie Michal Neuvirth,
who appeared in his first NHL start. The 20-year-old finished the game with 31
saves. "What can I say? It's unreal. An unreal feeling right now. I still
can't believe that. That was my best feeling ever," he said
enthusiastically.
The
Capitals are playing well right now. Perhaps even more important, they seem to
have that camaraderie as a team that makes them a threat every time they
skate. It’s a pleasure to watch a team compete that is comprised of players
who respect, and even like, one another." Bob

Mike
Brown is a Duck
!
After getting very
little time on the ice this season at Vancouver, the Canucks traded Mike Brown
to the Ducks last week. He was enjoying his day off when his cell phone rang and
the general manager told him to pack his bags. The Ducks were playing the
Predators the next evening in Nashville and Brown needed to get there ready to
suit up. He left Vancouver a little before 11:00 P.M. that night for a trip to
Nashville via Toronto. Flying all night, he set down in Nashville about 9:30 the
next morning. After meeting his new teammates, he took a long nap before the
game that evening.
Mike
played over eleven minutes in his debut game with the Ducks, which was more time
on the ice than he had at Vancouver this season. In fact, he had only played in
2 games for the Canucks this year. He was pumped up and ready to play, as he
tied for a game high 4 hits and had 2 shots on goal. Two nights later Brown saw
extensive action again in Calgary as the Ducks beat the Flames. His first home
game in Anaheim will be Wednesday, February 11th against those same
Flames.
At
23 years old Brown admits he is playing on adrenaline for his new team. A good hockey
bet tip is that he will continue to produce for the Ducks as his career
is taken to a new level. Coach Randy Carlyle is happy with Brown. “He’s
going to go out there and provide energy, try and hit and be a physical force…
I expect him to be first on the forecheck and be a physical player,” the coach
said.
Mike
stated he is excited about the weather in California. He used to spend summers
at relatives in San Diego. “It’s good to get out of that rain and cold,”
he noted, referring to Vancouver. He also stated that his new teammates and team
staff have been very welcoming to him. He intends to return their hospitality by
playing hard and tough for the Ducks. “I play a physical game, get under
guys’ skin and I’ll fight if I need to fight… I’m always kind of looking
to agitate,” he stated flatly. His record bears him out, as he had 11 fighting
majors in 20 games with the Canucks this year. Good
luck, Mike. Welcome to Anaheim. The Ducks have put their money on the line for
you. Go out and show them they made a good investment! Bob

Senators
Hire and Fire Again!
After
a disappointing 7-4 loss to the Washington Capitals, Ottawa once again fired its
head coach. Craig
Hartsburg coached only 48 games for the Senators this year, after replacing
fired coach John Paddock, who lasted 64 games last season. The new coach for
Ottawa is Cory Clouston, who is coaching his second season at the club’s
American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, New York. Clouston made his
coaching debut for Ottawa with a 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday
night, February 3rd. The
loss makes three in a row for the Senators. Clouston is the fourth coach for the
Senators since their loss to Anaheim in the 2007 finals.
In
elevating Clouston to the Senators top spot, General Manager Bryan Murray
stated: "He knows our players, he knows our prospects and I know he gets
the maximum performance out of his players in the American Hockey League. I
think he earned this job, I think he deserved this job and I want to give him a
chance to be the guy here. I'm hoping he can help us and that's all I'm asking
him to do. Help us make this franchise be what we thought it should be from the
start of the year and that is a competitive team on a daily basis."
Murray
stated that Clouston would guide the team for the rest of this season. Last
season, after firing Paddock, Murray coached the team for the remaining games.
The NHL
odds seem to be stacked against the Senators new coach.
Hopefully, Clouston is the right man for the job. Hopefully, he will be able to
get the team motivated to play as a cohesive unit. Hopefully, the past is just
that… the past. Good luck, Cory Clouston… you will need it!" Bob

"Lemieux
is a Shark! By Bob
Bagley, NHL
bets betting.betfair.com/canada/hockey/consultant
Claude Lemieux has returned to the NHL ice for the first time since his
retirement five years ago. Once dubbed “the most hated player” in hockey by
an ESPN poll, he has been playing with San Jose’s development team in
Worcester, Massachusetts. He had 3 goals and 8 assists in 23 games there before
being promoted to the Sharks. At 43 years old Lemieux has made his comeback in a
remarkable way. After talking it over with his family and getting their support,
he hired a personal trainer for the first time in his life.
After
dropping 25 pounds of excess weight, he began skating in September. “At that
point, it was just like training camp,” he said. His hard work was worth the
effort, as he appears to be in game condition now.
Lemieux
is looking for his 5th Stanley Cup. His previous Cup wins were with the Montreal
Canadiens, the New Jersey Devils (twice), and the Colorado Avalanche. He won the
Conn Smythe Trophy for the most valuable player in the 1995 playoffs while
playing for New Jersey.
His
lifetime record over 21 NHL seasons includes 1,197 games, 379 goals, and 785
points along with a whopping 1,756 penalty minutes. He retired from the Dallas
Stars in 2003. By his own admission he is “kind of a pain in the rear to play
against.” That’s putting it mildly, as he is given the credit for almost
single-handedly igniting the furious Colorado-Detroit rivalry. Fans remember him
as a clutch hockey player with a notorious ability to agitate his opponents.
San
Jose Sharks General Manager is quick to point out that Lemieux’s appearance on
the team is based on merit, which implies he realizes the wide-spread notion it
is based on star power to sell tickets.
He
commented that Claude played well in Worcester and that he “added different
ingredients… knowing when to do the right thing at the right time, his
competitive nature.” Lemieux’s Phoenix neighbor, Sharks Center Jeremy
Roenick, states that “By no means is this any kind of gimmick or any kind of
charity…. This man can help our team.” Time will tell the verity of
those statements. Love him or hate him… Claude Lemieux is back - time to get
those hockey
bets going!" Bob

Canada
wins the World Junior Hockey Championships!
On
Monday night Canada
defeated Sweden 5-1 to win their 5th in a row, World Junior Hockey Championship.
The event was held in Ottawa, Canada's capital in front of great crowds. Canada
was coached by former NHL coach Pat Quinn.
The
Winter Classic was Classic! By Bob Bagley, NHL odds consultant
Wrigley Field lent some of its charm and aura to a venue other than baseball
when The NHL Winter Classic was held there New Years Day. The only hockey game
to ever see the light of day at Wrigley, this was one for the ages. Game time
temperature was a balmy 32 degrees and the wind chill factor made it only 15
degrees, quite acceptable by Chicago standards.
Lottery winners for tickets out of nearly 250,000 entered, the 40,818 fans in
attendance crowded into the seats. Hundreds more took it all in from rooftop
vistas along the outfield and there was plenty of interest in NHL betting (betting.betfair.com/canada/hockey/)
from spectators and armchair fans alike. The rink was laid out
with the goals roughly at first base and third base. The center ice faceoff dot
was 112 feet from home plate. Chicago fans kept up their time-honored ritual of
singing and clapping throughout the National Anthem. The seventh-inning stretch
evolved into a mid-third period stretch. Chicago sports legends Ryne Sandberg,
Bobby Hull, and Ferguson Jenkins butchered “Take Me out to the Ball Game” as
so many before them have. The atmosphere for the day was electric.
Down
on the ice the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks faced off for a well
skated contest. The combatants seemed to have an extra zing in their playing as
the fresh air and wind gusts brought to mind their youthful days of playing
hockey just for the fun of it. Detroit
Coach Mike Babcock said “Our guys looked like they were 12 years old out
there.” The Red Wings pulled down the victory, 6-4, but the NHL, Chicago and,
yes, Wrigley Field all came away winners. Long live the Winter Classic!" Bob
Bagley, NHL odds consultant. (betting.betfair.com/canada/hockey/)

Does Sean
Avery really deserve to have the book thrown at him? from O'Dell Isaac
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, Avery, the
former Dallas Stars forward, made a very crude public comment about his
ex-girlfriends dating other hockey players (or, to be more precise, about hockey
players dating his ex-girlfriends). Avery used a term that was vicious,
intentionally hurtful, and ultimately incorrect (because it implies that
Avery’s former girlfriends were virgins when he began dating them, which they
likely were not).
The
NHL hit Avery with a six-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league,
then the Stars severed ties with him altogether just as he was scheduled to
return to the team. Twenty-three games into Avery’s contract with Dallas, he
was out of a job. Still being paid, yes. But out of a job.
Dallas Stars’
management claims that Avery’s dismissal was the result of a number of
factors, citing the fact that the forward went out of his way to alienate
teammates and management.
The
comment about Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel Hunter (Avery’s former girlfriends
who have both moved on to other hockey players) was simply the last straw. But
something about it seems wrong.
Didn’t Brett Hull have
some idea what he was getting when he signed Avery? Didn’t he do any homework?
A guy with a reputation as a cancer in the locker room usually leaves his muddy
footprints all over previous teams. It will certainly have made a difference to
the Stars’ standing in betting.betfair.com/canada/hockey/
Didn’t
he talk to the Red Wings, the Kings, or the Rangers and try to get a sense of
the guy?
Sean Avery’s statement
was awful. It was embarrassing to the NHL and to the Stars.
The guy is very likely a jerk. But Brett Hull should at least apologize to the
fans for not doing his due diligence." O’Dell
Isaac, consulting on betting.betfair.com/canada/hockey/

Talking NHL and

Listen now for Free!
On Easter Friday I was lucky to get on The Jim Rome show. Jim has a
syndicated sports radio show to many cities in the USA and several in Canada. It
is believed he has a audience of several million daily listening to his 3 hr
sports radio show. I met Jim in the Super Bowl Media centre during the Super
Bowl XXXVII in San Diego. I believed this helped in getting through and on this
great sports show. I have now added what I said to my YouTube/com Directors

The Montreal
Canadians could not bring the Stanley Cup "finally" back to Canada!
There is now no Canadian teams left in the Stanley Cup race. Refer below.
From Sat May 3. Oh Canada. The Official Lyrics of O Canada. But Oh Canada, what
is going on?
Below is the awesome Lyrics of the Canadian National Anthem that I love hearing
being sung at the start of NHL games.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O
Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
But Oh Canada! What is going on?
Hockey is the most popular game by a streak in Canada but no Canadian team has
won the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadians in the 1992-93 season. That's
15 years ago.
The obsession with winning the cup is driving many Canadian sports fans Crazy up
here as per the example below with the huge 3 meter replica being made here in
Calgary.
It's even worse when I see the Stanley Cup being won by these cities/states and teams
the past 3 years, Anaheim Ducks in 07, Carolina Hurricanes in 06, 05 no one now
that's another Crazy story and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 04. There are not that many
sports fans that even care about Hockey in these cities. Good luck to the US
based teams since 1993 but it's really sad that Canada has not won the Cup since
1993.
This years playoffs I'm not liking this but it yet again doesn't look good for a
Canadian team. I was hoping for Canada's sake and my calmness that the Calgary
Flames
can go deep into the playoffs and win the Cup. Can the Montreal Canadians come from behind and now defeat the Philadelphia Flyers!
Many Canadians will still watch the NHL Playoffs with or without a Canadian team
in it but I won't be watching too much. I loose a lot of interest and am annoyed
when it's the USA teams fighting for the Cup with many Canadian players on their
teams in most cases.
05 no one won, that's another Crazy story!
I follow hockey intensely up here but this is still confusing me. There was
no 04-05 NHL season. Not one game played! Why? $$$$$$ issue was the main reason
with the NHL owners and the players on strike. Yet 3 years later many of the
players are signing bigger contracts. I'm confused. A year of hockey lost. Why?
Human Sports Stupidity! Fighting amongst rich owners and over paid players!
It happened just after the Calgary Flames "finally" came good after many years
of being bad.
Calgary Flames trade rumors. Kristian Huselius seems very
likely. Alex Tanguay?
There has been lots of talk this week on Calgary sports radio about
possible Flames being traded or let go. Its seems very likely that Kristian
Huselius won't be a Flame next season. The Flames radio guys here are also
predicting that the Flames will try and trade Alex Tanguay because of his $5+
million a year pay. Alex is a excellent player and if his shot in game 7 against
the Sharks that hit the cross bar had gone in the Flames may have won and thus
still be in the playoffs.
So today I'm going for a run along the Bow river here in Calgary and I
recognized that it was Alex Tanguay walking his dog that I ran past. So I run
back to my car grab a mykaussie.com business card and write on the back of it
about how I stuck up for him on Sports Rage Sirius Satellite radio just before
the trade deadline saying he wouldn't be traded when many of the sports media
guys here were saying that he would be. I then run back and have a brief chat
with him and give him my business card saying how I'm the Aussie guy reporting
on many sports here in Canada and how I talked about him on Sports Rage. I
obviously did not want to hassle him like some crazy fans do but it was good to
meet him and especially tell him about Gabriel Morency's radio show on Sirius
Satellite radio. Gabriel is from Montreal and so is Alex.
The San Jose
Sharks defeat the Calgary Flames 5-3 in game 7 to advance!
The city of Calgary is in mourning today as the beloved Flames for the 3rd
year in a row get defeated in the 1st round of the playoffs. Flames star goalie
Miikka Kiprusoff being taken off and replaced by Curtis Joseph by coach Mike
Keenan after the Flames went down 4-2 was huge talk here today on radio. With up
to 13 Flames players becoming free agents next year it looks like there will be
a few changes as many believed this team had the potential to make a good run
for the Cup this year. I like coach Mike Keenan but I and many Flames fans
thought it strange that Miikka was replaced last night in goal. It was a great
series and in the end the Sharks were the better team and deserved to advance.
Now it is up to the Montreal Canadians in the NHL East to try and bring the
Stanley Cup "finally" back to Canada.
The Calgary Flames defeat the San Jose Sharks
2-0 in game 6 to tie the series 3-3!
Game 7 is Tuesday night! Can't wait!
A Huge Stanley Cup replica arrives in downtown Calgary!
On Friday a 3 meter replica of the Stanley Cup was delivered to the
Scotiabank on Stephen Ave in downtown Calgary. The cup was made from aluminum by
Black Diamond Industries. Apparently the metal fabrication shop took 200 hours
to built it with another 40 hours polishing it. Scotiabank are having a
Canada national contest inviting Canadians to build Stanley Cups. This one would
have to win it I presume.
The San Jose
Sharks defeat the Calgary Flames 4-3 in game 5 to lead the series 3-2!
What a great game it was on Thursday night in San Jose. The Flames got out
to a early lead but then the Sharks came back strongly to take a 4-1 lead. The
Flames then replied with 2 goals but in the end went down 4-3.
From Wed April 15. The San Jose Sharks defeat the Calgary Flames 3-2 in game 4 to tie the series
2-2!
Flames were up for most of the night and then the Sharks won it with 7
seconds to go.
From Monday April 14. The Calgary
Flames defeat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in game 3. Can I say the Sharks are
chokers are being up 3-0 after 3 minutes of play!
Wow! The Calgary Flames came back after being down 3-0 after just over 3
minutes of play to win 4-3. Champ Flames goalie Mikka Kiprosoff was replaced by
Curtis Joseph after the 3 early goals. In the last few minutes former Shark Owen
Nolan scored the winning goal for the Flames in a great comeback.
As I was waiting today to get on
The Jim Rome show I was going to start by saying "Yeh yeh Clones I know Champ
Aussie Golfer Greg Norman the Shark choked in the Masters but what about the San
Jose Sharks choking last night. Soft!"
Unfortunately I didn't get on
today but hopefully I can get on The Jim Rome Show next Monday and qualify for
the April 25 Smack Off contest. I must have been close to getting on as they
took my call and I was on hold listening in the phone box to the show for 2 1/2
hours. I nearly peed me pants it was so long. Refer below for the link to when I
got through the screening system and was talking NHL Hockey on Easter Friday on
the very popular Jim Rome show.
From Sat April 12. With the series
tied at 1 the Calgary hockey fans are all
excited as the Flames are now home to take on the Sharks in game 3 on Sunday
night!
The San Jose Sharks
defeated the Calgary Flames 2-0 in game 2 of the playoffs. The Calgary Flames
defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in game 1 of the playoffs.
Excitingly it seems the Flames can compete with the more fancied Sharks. I
really do hope they can win the series as it is definitely exciting when your
favorite team is in the playoffs.
What are Toronto Maple Leafs fans doing this time of year?
I presume many are still watching hockey but many will be again still crying
after another year of not making the playoffs. What a badly run organization.
A CBC Hockey commercial?
I was watching a CBC NHL television commercial the other night and was a bit
dumbfounded. The commercial featured legend Mark Messier going through the
streets somewhere in Canada promoting the hockey playoffs "Bring Home the Stanley Cup contest."
The 3 NHL jerseys they showed in the commercial were the New York Rangers, the
Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche. To a Canadian television
audience why would they show 3 USA based teams jerseys and no Canadian teams
jerseys?

Tuesday night the Calgary Flames defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-2! Oilers are
knocked out of the playoff race!
It
was another classic Battle Of Alberta. The young and talented Oilers after a
great past 1+ mths have now been knocked out of the playoff race.
On
Sunday night the Vancouver Canucks hammered the Calgary Flames 6-2 in Vancouver!
What a horrid lose it was for the Flames but it was a great win by the
Canucks. The Western playoff race is crazy! Tonight the Flames play the Oilers
again but this time it is in Edmonton.
On Saturday night the Edmonton
Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1! The Oilers are amazingly still alive and
a chance to make the upcoming Wild West Playoffs!
It was a great Battle Of Alberta game on Saturday night. It was a bad lose
for the Flames but the win by the Oilers has kept their playoff chances alive.
From Mon March 24. The
Calgary
Flames defeat the Minnesota
Wild 5-4 in a great game on Saturday night in Calgary. Jarome Iginla the Flames
Champ captain scores a hat trick. Dion Phaneuf the Flames Champ defensemen
scores a great goal!
What a great game of hockey it was on Saturday night. The goal that Dion
scored was amazing. He went pass all the defencemen for the Wild and scored a
great goal then ended up on the ice against the boards. It was a such a great
goal that his team mates were heading of the ice for a change thinking that Dion
had no chance of scoring a goal. Then Jarome Iginla scored 3 goals to set up the
Flames win. I loved this especially as on Friday I talked about how great both
of these guys were to a huge USA audience on The Jim Rome show.
From Sat March 22, 08. Talking NHL on The Jim Rome
show on Easter Friday!
Wow! This was big yesterday. Seeing Jim introduced me as Myk in
Calgary I started my sports talking about The Flames Jarome Iginla being one of the best hockey
players in the World and about Dion Phaneuf and
his apparent new Cwoc
actress girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert.
I then also talked about NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman doing something good last
year in regards to I believe helping in getting Paris Hilton locked up right at
the time that the Stanley Cup was doing the rounds of LA last year so that she
wouldn't be able to get her dirty rotten stinking mouth etc all over The Stanley
Cup. You know what I mean? Paris just has to be in the limelight and I know she
would have been hanging out with the Anaheim Mighty Donald Disney Duck players
or whatever their name is and The Stanley Cup. The Fan 960 in Calgary did not
broadcast this great radio show on Easter Friday and thus no Calgary sports fans
heard me talking about the Flames to the massive USA audience. I am guessing
that they did not want to pay for the feed seeing it was a holiday here in
Calgary on Friday. Oh well I had made up my mind on the Thursday night to try
and get on.
I
believe Jim Rome has about 5 million listeners daily. He is the biggest
sports radio guy in USA with his show going to many USA markets. Many
places in Canada also carry his daily 3 hour sports radio show. I met Jim
Rome at the Super Bowl Media centres in 03 and 04 and thus I believe this
is a reason why I got through and thus got on his very popular sports
radio show yesterday. Next time I need to slow down a bit and realize
that the large USA audience is not used to my Aussie accent. I tend to
get very excitable and passionate when I talk sports on USA and CDN radio
especially when I talk about Aussie Rules Footy.
I just
subscribed to his online pod cast to re listen and I was on for 3 minutes
without him interrupting at all. He bagged me a bit after the 3 minutes saying
"I didn't understand Myk, I heard about Brett Favre and Darren Bennett." but
then he said "No Myk I did understand you. That was Myk for 3, 5, 8 minutes
however long that was and yes we do see Myk down at Super Bowl's in the Media
Centre. That was Myk Aussie in Calgary". If you are a subscriber or wish to

Nashville. They have the best second, third and fourth lines in the league!
Barry Trotz (from Winnipeg) is the longest tenured Coach in the league and the

Buffalo. Most all of the Canadian teams will make the playoffs, but I don't

The Stanley Cup Champs loose season opener in London, England. The Los Angeles
Kings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 last Saturday night to start the 2007-08
NHL season.
NHL Preview 2007-08 Season. What to look for in Each Conference:
Predicted Order of Finish in Each Division and Conference Playoff Teams:
Eastern Conference: Atlantic Division Order of Finish: (1) Pittsburgh*, (2) New

Northeast Division: (1) Buffalo*, (2) Ottawa*, (3) Toronto*, (4) Montreal, (5)

Southeast Division: (1) Carolina*, (2) Florida*, (3) Atlanta*, (4) Tampa Bay,
(5) Washington
*Playoff Teams*
What to Look for in the East: Despite the best Russian player in the league
[Naturally Ovenchkin!] and great passing, Washington will sink and Coach firing
talks will fill the air. Carolina will dominate early but expect Lindy Ruff's
always tough Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa and maybe Sid 'The Kid' Crosby's Penguins
to make a late run. Prediction: Buffalo and Carolina in the East Finals, Crosby
for M.V.P. again and a Carolina Stanley Cup in seven over Nashville Predators."

Northwest Division: (1) Minnesota*, (2) Edmonton*, (3) Vancouver*, (4) Calgary,

Pacific Division: (1) Phoenix*, (2) Anaheim*, (3) Dallas*, (4) Los Angeles, (5)
San Jose *Playoff Teams* "What The Sharks
5th. A surprise pick." Myk
What to look for the in the West: Phoenix will surprise everybody but not in the
playoffs! Anaheim got good and lucky late last year. But congrats to the Ducks.
Vancouver's one-and-only chance is if Luongo REALLY does replace New Jersey's
Broduer as the best Goalie in the game this year. I believe he will by a
whisker.
Detroit with aging Goalie Hasek will wilt in the first round of the playoffs
like two years ago v. a red-hot Edmonton team. Nashville is the cream of the
crop in the West with the best three young Defencemen in Shea Weber, Dan Hamhuis
and Ryan Suter. This team will probably leave Music City in a year or two,
but not before they win one Stanley Cup. Moose you're wrong. Nashville will play
Carolina (or Lindy Ruff's Buffalo) but will cream either one in five or six.
Nashville over Carolina/Buffalo is six." Michele DeWalt

Moose's NHL - AHL - ECHL Hockey Report is below!
The Donald Daffy Disney
Anaheim LA Ducks or whatever their name is win the Stanley Cup defeating the
Ottawa Senators 6-2 in game 5! To me it was a disappointing Stanley Cup
series. The Ottawa Senators did not play that well or was it as thought the West
was way better than the East this year and a Western team was expected to win.
Again the Stanley Cup goes to a city where many sports fans don't really
care too much about Ice Hockey. Since arriving in Canada in March 1998 I eagerly
await the day that a Canadian team can again win the Cup. For the 3rd year in a
row a Canadian team has lost in the Stanley Cup Final. The Crazy thing was the
Senators last night scored a goal for the Ducks.
The goal that came off of Ray Emery's skate after Senators defenseman Chris
Phillips screwed up by loosing control of the puck was amazing, very bad, silly,
a stupid mistake, sad, pitiful.
Imagine all the Edmonton Oilers fans felt last night as they watched the now
Hatred Chris Pronger the "Prog Her Man" carry the Cup around the rink.
I like NHL Hockey but the season goes way too long. It's summer now.
Moose's NHL - AHL - ECHL Hockey Report!
"Champions, Champions, Champions of the Hockey World! Anaheim Ducks, Hamilton
Bulldogs and Idaho Steelheads!" Moose Salzer
NHL - The 89th NHL Stanley Cup was won on NBC here in the states by the
Anaheim (Just) Ducks, 6-2 over the slumping Ottawa Senators, who haven't won a
Stanley Cup since 1987 [the Ottawa CFL'r's haven't won a Grey Cup since 1976,
also]. The Ducks, lead by the Neidermayer brothers from British Columbia were
just too strong in goal with J.S Guegerre dominating and beat a worn down Ottawa
team four games to one. The placement in the Stanley Cup was only the second in
Ducks history and they lost, 4-3 to New Jersey in 2003, despite Guegerre's M.V.P
that year. The Ducks have made the playoffs only five times now in their 14 year
career.
AHL - The Hamilton Bulldogs won their second overall Calder Cup, 2-1 over the
Hershey (PA) Bears, four games to one last night in Hamilton, Ontario. On
Gabriel Morency's Sports Rage after hours show last Saturday a.m., morning side,
a guy called in right before my Arena Footy segment from Hershey, PA from last
weeks 4-2 Hamilton win. The Bulldogs won the Calder Cup Series, 4-1 like the
Ducks did in the Stanley Cup Series.
I
predicted both that Ottawa would make the Stanley Cup and that Hamilton would
win the Calder Cup several weeks ago on Sports Rage with Gabriel Morency. Lead
by ex-6.5 year Norfolk Admiral Captain A.J. Baines, who scored the winning goal,
the Bulldogs took out the team that knocked our Norfolk Admirals out of the
playoffs in week one. Baines, like the Neidermayer's is from Kamloops, B.C,
Canada.
ECHL - Zonk's Alaska Aces are no longer the ECHL's Champions, as the Idaho
Steelheads defeated the Dayton Flyers for the Kelly Cup Championship, in six
games, 4-2. It was Idaho's first ever Kelly Cup win. The old Hampton Roads
Admirals won the 1991, 1992 and 1998 Kelly Cups here in Norfolk, VA. [The Kelly
Cup in '91 & '92 was called the Jack Riley Cup, when John Brophy coached our
team. Brophy was fired after a 28 win season in Richmond earlier this spring. We
have a banner for Coach Broph's accomplishments in Scope Arena]." Moose

As I said on Sports Rage last night. The Shane Doan Disgrace!
"Un, Deux, Trois! Un, Deux, Trois! Un, Deux, Trois! No not 1, not 2 but 3
goals Shane Doan the Canadian Captain scored yesterday in the 6-3 win against
Belarus at the IIHF World Championships of Hockey. He obviously was very angry
at the disgraceful proceedings that happened in Canadian Parliament in Ottawa
this week.
The umpire in a NHL that Shane was playing in several years ago was a
Canadian Frenchmen. Shane was accused and cleared of calling the umpire "a
Frenchman" or something similar thus a "apparent" racist remark. Many Tnucy's
Quebec politicians were this week going off in Canadian Parliament as to why he
was named Canadian Captain. Yet he was cleared of this! Amazing!
The Wild Wild West has been in
uproar this week over this seeing that Shane is from Halkirk Alberta. The guys
on the Fan 960 radio here in Calgary were going right off and I agree. With the
problems that Canada has along with other countries as well how could the Tnucy
Quebec politicians waste time and money on this "non issue". For non Canadians
Quebec is a mainly French Province in Canada. Many French/Canadians in Quebec
also want to separate from Canada.
Also from Sports Rage last night. I believe I know why Canucks star goalie Roberto Luongo missed the 1st 3+
minutes of the 2nd overtime period on Thursday night!
Roberto who is from Montreal Quebec but now a Western Canadian was I believe
also so disgusted at the Quebec Tnucy politicians this week that I think he had
cronic diarerra during the week and then unfortunately during the game on
Thursday night. See its kind of hard to have a crap with all the hockey goalie
equipment on but I'm thinking he simply had to go again to the dunny at the
break after the 1st overtime period.
Well his Cleveland Browns shitta me pants was all over his hockey equipment and
thus it had to be cleaned up before he could rejoin his mates in the 2nd
overtime loss against the Disney Ducks. Roberto played a great game under these
stressful circumstances. There has been no other explanation that I have heard
yet as to why he missed the 3 minutes. The Canucks bosses did say it was a
equipment issue.

this week. So also went Hardcore Sports Rage on MLB for a bit last night. For

The Flames were so hot in the 2nd "period" that they set off the Fire Alarm in

The commentators were a bit worried for a bit as well as a evacuation of the

The Calgary Flames get Hammered by the Detroit Red Wings 4-1!
As I drive
around Calgary in the afternoon's I get to listen to The Fan radio with 95%
Flames talk, over and over again it's often the same stuff but that's OK I
suppose. Thursday night nothing changed really, the Flames absolutely suck when
playing away from the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary. They were hammered 4-1 by
the Red wings. If Flames Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff hadn't played awesome it could have been 10 goals by the Red Wings. Game 2 is
Sunday morning 11am Calgary time. I'm really hoping the Flames come good and
defeat the Red Wings in the 1st Round.
It's great
living in a Canadian city when their NHL team goes deep into the playoffs. It
sucks when they don't. I'm glad I'm not in Oiler Babes Edmonton or Gabriel
Morency's Montreal or Smelly Toronto right now.
The Vancouver Canucks win game against the Dallas Stars in the 4th Over Time
"Period" 5-4 but then loose game 2, 2-0!
Wow! What a game it was Wednesday night between the Canucks and the Stars at GM
Place in Vancouver. I watched into the 2nd Over Time "Period" and then in the
morning gladly saw how the Canucks won. Jim Rome talked about this game on his
show on Thursday and how their is nothing like the NHL Playoffs with some game's
going to many Over Time "Periods" and well into the night. The Canucks fans got
their moneys worth but that's Crazy the game going so long, 3 at 20 minute
"Periods" and then well into the 4th 20 minute Overtime. w
Canucks Brent Sopel hurts
back picking up cracker!
This is funny. Canucks defenseman Brent Sobel
missed game 1 of the playoffs after he reportedly strained his back picking up a
cracker biscuit off of the floor. Amazing! I can't believe he admitted this is
how it happened. He didn't need to lie but letting people know this, is simply a
Crazy Canuck story.
Canucks defenceman, Kevin Bieka what a player!
After watching a great interview of the CBC guys interviewing Kevin a few weeks
ago on After Hours I thought I better see how good he is. Kevin in his 1st full
year as a Canuck defenseman is now one of my favorite players. The guy is
everywhere in defense. His reading of the play is unreal. He just seems to have
the uncanny knack of being in the right place on nearly all of the attaching
moves by the opposition team. He likes to fight as well. Hers Kevin's profile on
the Canucks site Click here
The Ottawa Senators hammer the Pittsburg Penguins in game 1, 6-3!
I'll be watching as much of this series and as many "Periods" as I can. The
Senators the only Canadian team in the East versus the young Stars from the
Penguins including the NHL leading scorer "Sid the Kid", Sidney Crosby
A Hockey game has 3 "Periods"!
This really freaked me out when I 1st came to Canada in March 1998. I was
invited to a game at Maple Leaf Gardens and at the end of what I thought was the
3rd Quarter of the 4 Quarter Leafs vs Flames game I stayed sitting down when
everyone started leaving. I couldn't believe it when my new CDN mates told me
the game was over. What game has 3 terms or "Periods" they call it. Every game I
know of has 4 quarters or 2 halves.
I have some fun with this 3 "Periods" in the commentary that I did recently of
the Calgary Kangaroo's Aussie Rules Footy and Canadian guys playing in a Hockey
Final at Olympic Oval. The tape has now been send to Vancouver for Joe to do the
MYKwebTV edit. I'm looking forward to seeing the final edit of this the 1st ever

American Hockey League Playoff Preview:
Eastern Conference:
Norfolk, Manchester, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hershey, Hartford. Sixth and last
spot up for grabs between: Worcester, Providence and Lowell. I predict
Providence will secure it as they currently have the most wins, 41, so far.
Western Conference:
Manitoba, Hamilton (West? Hamilton? Like when Paul Tagliabue had Montreal in NFL
Europe in '91-'92!), Omaha, Chicago, Milwaukee and Rochester, who Don Cherry
Coached and played for!
Calder Cup Prediction: Norfolk Admirals v. the Manitoba Moose. Manitoba in six!
New Direction for 2007-08 Norfolk Admirals, now property of the Tampa Bay
Lightning! Poor Coach of the AHL Year, Mike Haviland will be ostensibly out of a
job, at least with our Admirals (as opposed to the Milwaukee kind!), as the
Tampa Bay Lightining, who won the 2004 Stanley Cup, will be our parent team in
the NHL next year. I was hoping like many others in the area that it would be
the Stanley Cup Defending Champ Carolina Hurricanes (who finished ninth in the
East in the NHL and didn't make the playoffs this time). Haviland Coach of the
Year in the AHL Norfolk Coach Mike Haviland is the American Hockey League Coach
of the Year for 2006-07, and much deserved. With six games left in the AHL reg.
season, Norfolk is 48-21-6-2 with 104 points our best season in quite a while.

Part way through last nights game between the Flames and the Oilers the Flames
got news that the Nashville Predators had defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-2
and thus they secured the 8th spot in the West. To then loose 3-2 to the lowly
Oilers was not good. The Flames now play the Detroit Redwings in the 1st

Again 2 Canadian teams in the East miss the playoffs. It's disappointing
that the Ottawa Senators are the only Canadian team to make the playoffs in the
East.

Flames defeat the Oilers
and they make the playoffs!
With the Colorado
Avalanche 3 points behind the Calgary Flames and only 2 games to go, the Flames
can lock up the 8th playoff spot in the powerful NHL West tonight with a win
over their number 1 rival the Edmonton Oilers. If they don't defeat the horrid
of late Oilers they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
The Flames then venture to Colorado to play the Avalanche on Sunday in what
could be but shouldn't be the decider of who gets the 8th spot.
A new place to watch the Flames "hopefully" next week as well.
From Jerry Nuffy on Total-CFL Discussion today. "As the Stampeders are a part of

Go the Canadians! I can't believe it, again this year the Toronto Maple
Leafs are a average team. They have lots of money, a huge fan base but are a
average team. I was told recently that the owners don't really care if they
don't win the Stanley Cup as they make so much money anyway.
I know one thing, even though Gabriel Morency is now based in Toronto with
Sirius Satellite radio he will be rooting for the Montreal Canadians.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Montreal Canadians then it will be either
they or "Crying" Ryan Smith's new team the New York Islanders that will get the
8th spot in the weaker NHL East.
As I now leave here to go for a few Kokanee's and get ready to watch the Flames

Forty-five year old winger Chris Chelios became

the Anaheim Ducks tonight, 1-0. Chelios, who has been on two Stanley Cup winners
says he plans to play 'until he's fifty.' That I'll believe when I see it! But
as far as I am concerned, he's certainly NOT the best American player of
all-time. Take your pick between Mike Modano or Brian Leech folkes, but don't
say Chris, unless you're just talking about longevity! Focus on red-hot Detroit.
The Red Wings are now in a three way tie with Buffalo of the Eastern Conference

is conceivable that the team that finishes second in the West, either Nashville

The Hockey Roo's defeat the Ice Roo's
3-0 in Sundays Hockey final at Olympic Oval!
On Sunday afternoon at
Olympic Oval here in Calgary I witnessed and very luckily filmed something
great in Canada.
The Hockey Roo's and the Ice Roo's teams were made up of many Calgary Kangaroo
and Calgary Bear Aussie Rules Football guys. Many of these guys only started
playing Ice Hockey in late 2006 and many of these guys had hardly ever even
skated before. I was amazed at how well me Aussie mates had picked up Canada's
game. I actually thought I would be getting some funny MYKwebTV with some of the
Aussie guys going ass up but not to be, I got great footage. Both of these teams
were part of a 7 team competition here in Calgary. The Ice Roo's finished top
and then on Sunday lunchtime the Hockey Roo's won their semi final to get into
the final.
The Hockey Roo's caused a upset winning the Big game 3-0. Winning the right to
wear the magnificent Blue and White Calgary Kangaroo jerseys I believed helped
somewhat. Aussies Troy Rose, Judgey, Brad Flower, Beau Toohey and Gonads
were telling me how they really enjoy playing hockey, learning new things and
seeing improvement in their games. Brad Copeland has been in Canada for 7-8
years now and started playing hockey when he arrived here so he was definitely
one of the best Aussies.
Several of the Canadian guys that also play Aussie Rules football for the Roo's
including Trevor Stewart and Smirley were telling me how they liked teaching the
Aussie guys and seeing them improve.
Number 8 for the Hockey Roo's got
my vote for Best on Ice. He was dominant in attack. Afterwards I found out that
this guy was in fact a Aussie but he had grown up on Canada and thus played for
quite a few years. The goalies on both teams were great but my 2nd Best on Ice
goes to the Hockey Roo's goalie. These guys should go join Cake out in Eastern
Canada in his successful Rent a Goalie business.
Even better is the Hockey Roo's
and Ice Roo's often played at 11pm on a week night as this was the only Ice time
available here in Calgary for them. That's keen I reckon. After working all day,
settling in at home and then many nights they had to get into freezing cars to
drive to play there new loved sport, Canada's game of Ice hockey. A great story! MYKwebTV

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburg
Penguins reaches 100 points in a season, Wow!
On Saturday night the young Super Star of the NHL Sidney Crosby scored his
100th point of the season, the 1st player to reach this mark this season. What a
great effort in only his 2nd year in the NHL. He is now the youngest player in
NHL history with two 100 points seasons. Sidney was built up to be the next
Wayne Gretzky and he is damn well living up to all expectations and more. He had
a excellent 1st year in the NHL and is now in the running for the Best Player
Award in the NHL this year. The Penguins in the East Division are a chance for
the Stanley Cup especially with Sidney the young Champ.
It annoyed me last year when some media people were saying he wasn't as good as
Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin. Both these guys were stars in their 1st
years. But what annoyed me was if the NHL lockout hadn't occurred Alex would
have played that year and thus it would have been Alex the Best 1st year the
year the lockout was in effect and then Sidney Crosby last year.
Chris Simon suspended for the rest
of the season including the playoffs!
The much awaited Hockey
decision was made yesterday. Chris Simon was suspended for the rest of the
season including playoffs for the Crazy hit on Rangers center Ryan
Hollweg. He is suspended a minimum of 25 games, 14 Islanders games are
now left after he missed Saturday nights game. He would serve additional games
at the start of the 2007-08 regular season to satisfy the minimum term of the
suspension if the Islanders do not qualify for the 2007 playoffs, or if they
play fewer than 10 upcoming possible playoff games. I wonder if Ryan Smyth a new
Islander is crying again over this, probably not. I like Ryan but damn that
annoyed me two weeks ago when he cried on TV then next day said he was glad to
be a Islander. What a load of crap.
From Sat
Mar 10 Chris Simon the
New York Islander and former Calgary Flame must have said something like "You
smack me into the Hockey Boards and I'll use my stick and Hurt you!"
Wow that was a mean hit! It was like a good Cricket shot, a "Pull shot" or it
was nearly a "Hook shot". Chris Simon has been suspended indefinitely for the
hit with his hockey stick to Rangers center Ryan
Hollweg. It has been Big

This hit is being compared to the

Talking NHL Flames and Oilers on Sports Rage Sirius Hardcore radio with Gabriel

Last night I was on with Morency for the 1st time
since he joined Sirius late night Hardcore radio from The Team 990 out of

Hardcore on why they are such a bad road team. Something is drastically wrong
when they play away from the Calgary Saddle dome. They are terrible. The Flames
have the best home record with 27 wins yet the worst road record with 7 wins.
We also talked about the Ryan Smyth trade from the Edmonton Oilers to the New
York Islanders and how one day he is crying and then the next day he says he's
happy to be a Islander. What a load of crap that was. I like Ryan Smyth but if

The Stanley Cup Champions Carolina Hurricanes picked by winger Anson Carter who
has 421 career points on 219 goals and 202 assists with the Washington Capitols,
Vancouver Canucks, Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers and the New York
Rangers. Carter, from Yonge Park off Yonge street in Toronto has yet to play for

Don't look now Norfolk, VA, but we may have an AHL Championship in our near
future! The Admirals lead the American Hockey League with a 32-10-4-1 record!
Our home record is now a League leading 23-1-2 at Scope Arena. Other Division
Leaders: East: Atlantic - Manchester, Western Conference: North - Rochester,
West - Chicago. Rochester is second in the League with 63 points to the Admirals
69.
Current NHL Division Leaders are: Eastern Conference: Atlantic - New Jersey,
Northeast - Buffalo, Southeast, still surprising Atlanta. I expect Carolina to
be back in the chase soon (R.A.S.). In the Western Conference, Central -
Nashville, with their second most tenured Coach in the League, Winnipeg's Barry
Trotz, Northest - Calgary, who I thought was going to the Stanley Cup last year
(Michele) and Pacific - Anaheim, who probably will represent the West in the
Stanley Cup unless somebody (Nashville?) can catch them (R.A.S.).
The All-star game was held on Jan. 24th in Dallas, TX. The Eastern Conference
was Coached by Buffalo's Lindy Ruff and Randy Carlyle of the Anaheim (Just)
Ducks Coached the Western Conference. The West won, 12-9. Ynaic Perreault of
Wayne Gretzky's Phoenix Coyotes scored what turned out to be the game winner off
an assist from Minnesota's Brian Rolston. They teamed up for two scores. The MVP
of the Game Buffalo's Daniel Brierre with one goal and four assists. The biggest
change, besides the still new rules is the new uniforms worn by both Conference
clubs teams.
In the last All-star game, held in 2004, the longtime Quebec/Colorado Av Joe
Sakic was the M.V.P. Sakic is now in his 18th NHL season and this was his 12th
straight all-star game, four off the record (Gordie HowE Mr. Hockey played in
23, but seven were in the defunct WHA). New Jersey's Martin Broduer, arguably
the best goalie in the NHL today, allowed 6 scores in 16 shots in 2 periods.

Pro
and Minor League Hockey Update. Hockey has a very fine and long history in the
Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake, VA area, in several different Leagues.
Despite a lack of booming Zamboni Technology here, the first Tidewater Area team
was a Red Wings affiliate known as the Tidewater Wings, in 1971-72. Later, their
leading scorer, Robbie Ftorek became an AHL and later NHL Coach. He was one
of Wayne (Genius) Gretzky's Coaches in Los Angeles w/ the Kings. In 1974 the
area's Hockey team became the Hampton Gulls of the Southeastern Hockey League.
They later moved to San Diego and died there last June, '05. They began under a
very familiar named Coach, John Brophy, who is currently Coaching Richmond, VA
in the ECHL. Brophy later coached our Hampton Roads Admirals to three Jack Riley
Cups and even coached the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late '80's. Brophy's
15-28-3 mark would be his only losing record of his career. A banner hangs from
the rafters in the soon-to-be-remodeled Scope area of Norfolk, VA where our AHL
Admirals currently play.
From 1978-81 the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL)'s Hampton Roads Aces played
@ Scope Arena, home of the former Norfolk Nighthawks of the Af2. Current Tampa
Bay Coach John Torterella played for both the Hampton Roads team and the former
Roanoke Express (who once owned the Af2's Roanoke Steam). Five years later the
ACHL merged with the East Coast (now just ECHL) League.
NHL
- Tidewater, VA Connection - Recently the Chicago Blackhawks fired former
six-year Norfolk Admirals, AHL Coach, Trent Yawney, a resident in the offseason
of Regina, Saskatchewan. Yawney had our Admirals in the playoffs six years in a
row. This year the AHL Admirals have had no less than the third best record in
the League all season but still have trouble with the teams from Pennsylvania.
They must keep up the pace to have a chance to win with the prestigious
Calder Cup at the end of the year. Good Luck Admirals!" Michelle
