absolute fight to the Finish !!!!!!!!!!!! No need to hang any heads after this
game, this game could have gone either way, Very exciting football, then
again,"AIN'T THAT WHAT THE CFL IS ALL ABOUT"
Saskfan
in Winnipeg Thu Jul 29 '04 7:25pm "No need to hang any heads after this
game, this game could have gone either way. On
the contrary, there are plenty of reasons to hang their heads, even the team
that won. I've never seen
such stupidity on both sides of the football. I'm
sure Dunigan is tearing his team some new orifices and PaoPao is thanking his
lucky stars."
ScottyDog
Thu Jul 29 '04 7:29pm "Well you do have a good point there, I was talking
about the team having a loss. Lots a penalties, costly penalties."
Sugarfoot
In Mouth Disease Thu Jul 29 '04 7:55pm "Outside
of the finish, that was a sloppy, poor exhibition of football. The only
good outcome is that the home fans got their money's worth, so hopefully that
helps Ottawa's attendance 'problem'.
While
there were a few good takeaways from Calgary's perspective (Jones fared well,
good d-line and linebacker play, and I cashed in for $10), the way that Calgary
lost (TD on 3rd and 29??? WTF???), leaves a very, very, sour taste in my
mouth.
It
will be interesting to see how Calgary responds next week. They're clearly
a fragile team, and they can either view this as a 'nowhere to go but up'
situation, or fall apart entirely."
Jerry
Nuffy Fri Jul 30 '04 8:00am "Please tell me how Dunigan can be so
stupid. To go into a game with a rookie quarterback and no running back is not acceptable.
Any team in this league with 57 seconds left would run the ball and win the
game. Matt Dunigan should resign or be fired. Crandell can not be his scapegoat
any more. Although Jones looked okay, he will not win this year. The Stamps will
be lucky to win another game this year. How we got rid of Buono and Barker and
hire this baboon is beyond me. Ottawa's running game was great as was Warren in
the BC game. John Jenkins should be relieved of his duties as offensive co-ordinator
and be replaced with anybody who knows what a running back looks like. I was so
happy to see Ottawa win and I hope this team under this regime never wins
another game this season. Obviously the loyal fans will suffer again. When
Dunigan and Jenkins are led out of town, lets hope Rooke is on the same plane."
I
had to join in on this!! Myk AussieCDN Fri Jul 30 '04 8:29am "Yeh Nuffy
but a good marketing ploy by Stamps to get Tom Jones playing for them seeing
crowds are down. The
alcoholic women in Calgary will here about Tom Jones on the radio and go to the
games now to watch him play & sing in the Stamps Sunny Stadium! So more
girlies at the footy for ya Nuffy."
Sugarfoot
In Mouth Disease Fri Jul 30 '04 9:51am "While
I've never been a huge Jenkins fan, last night really sealed the deal for me
with this guy. I would have said that that was singlehandly the stupidest
coaching decision I had seen in my life, if I hadn't seen Paopao fail to accept
that no-yards penalty 2 minutes earlier.
When
a team can't a) convert from inside the 5, b) burn 55 seconds off the clock, and
c) avoid putting the QB in the position of having to use a higher risk play with
the game on the line, then something is truly amiss. And this is under
ideal weather conditions; I shudder to think what this offense will look like in
late October.
Here's
where Dunigan earns his pay: Either he has the brass to do something about
the offense (beyond the standard 'looking at tape, promise to get better,
by-the-way, did anybody see where my deckchair got shuffled to? rhetoric), andd
specifically Jenkins, or his own head should be in the noose. Granted,
Coach Dunigan is only playing the cards that he's been dealt, but he was dealt
many of them by GM Dunigan.
As
for Rooke? He's a huge liability, IMO. #1, he's too afraid of the
optics of the situation to even consider the fact that there is a former
offensive coordinator in Calgary with a fist full of Grey Cup rings that would
probably kill to help this team out. Rooke would ("Oh I better edit
that bit...."Myk) himself before
he would consider making that call. BTW, Ronnie, if you are considering ("Oh
I better edit that bit as well...."Myk) yourself, I'm here to help.
Sadly,
though, All this hand-wringing might be pointless. I'm not sure that
Calgary has the horses to accommodate a change in offensive strategy, even if
they wanted to. To be fair, though, Victor Ike hasn't touched the ball
enough for me to really comment on the guy. I do know that Saladin
McCullough is rotting away on Saskatchewan's practice roster, and Kelvin
Anderson is still only 7 months removed from a 1000 yard rushing season. It
ain't like there isn't anybody out there if you wanted.
BTW,
I disagree with part of your post. I don't have a problem with the Jones
decision- he didn't play all that badly, all things considered, and demonstrated
that he has an upside, IMO. Other than carrying the ball like a loaf of
bread on that last turnover, there's no disappointment from me there."

fan from California Fri Jul 30 '04 10:13am "I
agree with your post, if someone was to ask 100 football coaches what play they
would have used in that situation, I would guess 95 of them would have said run
the ball. One has to wonder why Matt has so much faith in Jenkins. Jenkins
has to go."
True-42
Fri Jul 30 '04 10:31am "While
it was an exciting final five minutes or so (heck, even the 4th quarter), it was
brutal until then. I wouldn't like to see Matt lose his job, and I think the
Stampeders will be able to weather through the Quarterback stuff and have a
decent season. But Jenkins has to go. And I also concur with Sugarfoot's
comments about Rooke."

Pickin' Troy Westwood moved up to sixth in CFL history! CFL
all-time kickers update!" Moose Banjo
Pickin' Troy Westwood moved up to sixth in CFL history with his 700th FG attempt
in Thursdays blowout loss to B.C in Winnipeg. The following is the list of all-time
top 10 CFL FG Kicking attempts. Just ot save your calculators!:
1) Lui Passaglia (Myk & I have interviewed Lui in his office at B.C Place
before. A great guy & I have in my CFL gear a number #5 Lui B.C, black
jersey.) 1,203 FG attempts
2) Paul Osbaldiston, 927
3) Mark McLoughlin, 897
4) Dave Cutler, 790
5) Dave Ridgeway, 736
6) Troy Westwood, 703
7) Terry BAKER, 630
8) *Bernie Ruoff, 595
9) Trevor Kennerd, 592
10) Sean Fleming, 584
* In 1988, Bernie Ruoff also kicked for one season for New England in the Arena
Football League. His career Pro Total is: 631 attempts, which would place him
ahead of Nova Scotia's Terry Baker, if the CFL recognized these stats. Just a
historical footnote from your friendly neighborhood sports reporting

July 16 04 "Oh no David De La Perralle cut from the Ottawa
Renegades! David on Renegades Total-CFLwebTV!
From
Arash at Renegades media.
OTTAWA
– The Ottawa Renegades released offensive tackle David De La Perralle
Thursday, and also announced that 2003 draft pick Patrick Kabongo has reported
to the team.
De
La Perralle, who was inactive through the first four games of the regular
season, has had an injury-riddled CFL career since being drafted by Toronto in
1999. The Montreal native got banged up in the first game of 2000 and did not
play for all of 2000 and 2001. He appeared in four games last season, before
missing the last 11 games due to injury as well.
“We
want to thank David for his contributions to our club over the past three
years,” said Renegades General Manager Eric Tillman. “We fully expect that
he will be playing again in the Canadian Football League in the very near
future.”
I
met David at Gabriel Morency's RoadRage in Montreal in Jan and then again at
Super Bowl week. Seems
injuries caught up with the big fella. Here's David the only CFLer at the Global
Jnr's in Houston helping the young future CFLers. Click

Wed,
July 14 04 "We talked
lots of CFL on Detroit
Lions radio yesterday! Who
was the best holder in CFL history? Definitely not me mate Nuffy!
Detroit
radio was huge, was on for 20 minutes and even had 2 people call in to ask me
questions. Tonnes of CFL talk and Aussie Footy. They knew of current BC Lions
QB Dave Dickenson from his days at the NFL Lions and of course I mentioned how
I am a BC Lion just like many of your listeners being Lions fans.
So
Greg the host says to me "So who's going to win CFL Grey Cup?" I
said "I think it will be out of Montreal and Edmonton again but the
Regina boys, you know the great name of the city here that sounds like the
woman's body part they are a chance".
Then
Michelle the co host starts talking sexy saying "Yes we know it's all
warm and moist ..... gotta go to Mates Club here. Can't upset me CFL mates and
Cwoc's on here. Invest

From
Total-CFL Discussion. A different type of topic this week was a rippa.
"Who was the best holder in CFL history" Moose "Best
holder in history?!?!?! Talk about an episode talking about nothing. That of
course is with no disrespect to players handling that responsibility as it is an
important one. Simply I doubt many of us could name more than 4 current holders
much less many "greats". All I know is usually that job goes to either
a backup QB or the punter if a team employs both a punter and placekicker.
Once and a while it might fall to another player. These days it is almost
unheard of to have the starting QB do it. That's why your selection of Dickenson
seems odd. I'm sure he doesn't hold for BC so it must've been for something he
did in Calgary. Jason Crumb has done some holding for BC in recent years and
seems to me either Wynn or Printers did some last year.
Eskinator mentioned Wilkie. The only guy I'm aware of who had holding
responsibilities for a good chunk of his career is Glen "Pup" Suitor
who was Ridgway's trusted holder for almost all of the years the two played
together. Darren Flutie was another positional player who did it a few times in
his career as well. That's about the extent of my knowledge of who has handled
the job over the years." Hambone
"...most famous Lion's holder was back-up QB Peter Ohler ... on a botched
FG in the 64 Cup ... he scrambled and passed to TE Jim Carphin for a TD"
3rd Down "Kevin
Eiben has done an outstanding job holding for Noel Prefontaine for the last few
years." Ravi "Definitly
not Nuffy! He doesn't even
get to "hold" a can of beer at Stamps games! It's gone down his gut in
seconds and back to the beer booth I have to go!" Myk Aussie Thurs,
