an NFL-leading 25 receptions and 348 yards receiving, St. Louis
Rams wide receiver ISAAC BRUCE is off to the best start of
              his stellar 11-year career.
               On
Sunday when the Rams face their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco
49ers, Bruce will attempt to become the most prolific receiver of
              all-time against San Francisco. Bruce
has 86 receptions for 1,334 yards versus the 49ers and needs seven
receptions and 48 yards to surpass his current wide receivers
coach, HENRY ELLARD (92 for 1,381) as the all-time leader
              against the 49ers. The
rivalry between the teams dates to 1950, with the Rams leading the
series 56-50-2. After 108 regular-season games between them, the
teams are separated by just 10 points (St. Louis, 2,422; San

 Baltimore 23, Cincinnati 6
 Jacksonville 15, Tennessee 12
 Minnesota 27, Chicago 22
 Houston 24, Kansas City 21
 Seattle 34, San Francisco 0
 Philadelphia 30, Detroit 14
 New Orlean 28, Saint Louis 25, O.T.
Denver 23, San Diego 13 [last week's pick based on whether Doug
       Flutieball played.
       He didn't thus San
       Diego lost. Case closed.]
 Atlanta 6, Arizona 3
 Indiapolis 45, Green Bay 31
Pittsburgh 13, Miami 3 [game supposed to originally be replaced a very
       CFL-like Tues night, but
       NFL brass said play anyway.]
 Oakland 30, Tampa Bay 20

 NFL Milestones yesterday - Green
Bay's Brett Favre has now started an NFL record 192 straight games,
       besting the best
ever, John Elway. Peyton Manning broke Johnny Unitas Colts team record
       with 5 TDs
in the first half [Unitas had thrown 4 in a half 12 times in his illustrious
       career]. What no TDs
in the 2nd half, Peyton?! I see G.B.'s 'D' woke up in half two! Favre
       also tied Dave Krieg
for third in NFL history with TD passes in 28 straight games. Only
       Jonh Elway and Dan
Marino ahead of Hall-of-Fame bound Brett. Good relief effort by Doug
       Pederson but it
fell short after five straight completions. Other all-time marks of note:
       Morton Andersen is
now the NFL's all-time leader in games played with 341, breaking George
       Blanda's 340.

Another all-time NFL mark fell as the 49ers of San FRAN had their
       consecutive games
played without a shutout v. them. Stopped at 420 straight in 34-0 shellacking
       by the Seahawks.
       Steak dated back until Oct
4th, 1977, when they were beaten by the Atlanta Falcons
       'Grits Blitz' 'D', 7-0. The
Falcons set an NFL 14 game record that year with only
       allowing 152 points
against. Emmitt Smith, Pro Football's all-time leading rushing yardage
       leader is running
out of steam - again. In 8 games last year Emmitt had only 252 yards.
       He has 148 in three
games this year. Right behind him is Edmonton's Mike Pringle who has
       16,967 yards between
the CFL and NFL. Pringle has passed both George Reed of the CFL
       and Walter Payton
       (16,729) of the NFL this season. Emmitt has one thing in his favor;
       the NFL season has
13 games to go but the CFL only has 3 more. Good luck to both men
       in this race!
 Other
NFL notes from yesterday. The Chargers forced partially injured Drew
       Brees back
in the lineup yesterday so Doug Flutieball only got placement holds on
       FGs and
XPs. Brees did have his first Pro catch, a 38-yarder from Sensational RB
       LaDanian Tomlinson
on an option pass yesterday. It wasn't enough as they lost @ Denver.
       Tampa's Tim Brown caught
his 100th career Pro TD catch v. his old team, Da Raidah's last night in
CA. It was about the only thing that went right for the 1-2
       Buccs. Hey
Mike Martz and the Lambs, er, ah Rams, how about those 2-1 Giants with
       that guy
you didn't want, what's his name again, Kurt somebody-or-other...Serves
       you guys
right. I hope you go 6-10-0 and miss the playoffs. Marc Bulger, indeed...So
far Kurt has O sacks, O
INTs and 0 fumbles on the season. Hhmmmm....Another former
Arenaball'r, Chris Horn, of K.C. had his first NFL TD. Way to go, kid.
       Two other former
Arena Leaguer's, Green Bay DLm, R-Kal Truluck and Colt's kicker Mike
Vanderjagt had stellar games yesterday, too. And Hey Myk, I'm giving
       one of
my five game balls this week to yer boy Peyton Manning. Hey, he deserved
       it. But
if Brett Favre wouldn't have gotten hurt and the Pack had played better
       'D' in
the first half, it might have gone the other way as in a win for Green
       Bay. Message
       to Dick Vermeil and Gunther Cunningham, the Chiefs braintrust in Coaching;
your 'D' with the 4-3 and without the aforementioned Truluck, sucks!
       Switch to
3-4 and get Kawika Mitchell in the starting lineup soon otherwise your
       9-0 start
last year will be 0-9 his year! I know you guys miss ex-Calgary Grey
       Cup hero Marc
Boerigter badly but get the ball down field to Horn. He's the fastest
       WR you
guys have, now. Let ex-CFL'r Trent Green throw deep for awhile. Also,
       anybody else that heard
that rumour about the proposed trade of Green to 'They would
be Giants' for Warner, it was a mirage. I talked to several K.C folkes
       last week.
No dice, says Tom Coughlin, who loves Warner so much, he's made Canadian
pivot Jesse Palmer 2nd string behind bust Eli Manning, who I predict
       nothing from.
Can you say Ryan Leaf, II?! If anybody would have told me several weeks
       ago that Atlanta,
Jacksonville and Philadelphia would be 3-0-0 at this point of
       the season, I'da had
ya hauled away and put in the rooms with the rubber toilets!

       "My NFL Rd 3 picks!"
        I
picked 9 last week. Rd 2 is often a hard Round. Below is some of what I
said last night on SportsRage with Gabriel Morency the best Sports radio
       show in the world.
        Broncos,
Colts, Seahawks over 49ers oh no Jeff and Terrell are gone
and so are the 49ers, Raiders, Eagles over Lions and I think
Terrell Owens may again be in trouble with the NFL. His new very
impressive website has video game action of his TD's etc. The NFL don't
normally allow the NFL players to show game action on their websites. I'm
a big Randy Moss fan so Vikings over the Bears. The Bears have
been so bad the past couple of years even the overrated Rider CFLer Henry
Burris got a game at QB, Falcons, Chiefs.
Giants What's Jesse The Bachelor doing? Still prancing up and down
the sidelines impressing the babes in the crowd. Rams, Tits that's
short for Titans if you don't get it, Fish, Bengals, Cowboys
       to defeat the Redskins
as Big Mike Sellers the Champ Winnipeg Blue Bomber and former Brown is
again in the NFL with the Redskins. But gotta go for Cowboys now that Mat
McBriar a 2nd Aussie punter is in the NFL. NFL Sundee and Mondee night.

 Poor
QB play marred an otherwise pretty good weekend in the NFL. Red Garciaof Cleveland had as bad a second half as did Vinnie Testeverde in Dallas,
Sunday. Difference: Dallas won at home. They may not be as lucky this
       weekend
 against arch rival
Washington. Mat McBriar got plenty of 'on air' time this weekend,
 which will make Grey
Cup Media bound Mykaussie.com happy. Didn't see much of the other
two Aussies on T.V. last couple of weekends as Nathan Chapman is not
traveling with the Pack on the road as he is chained to the practice
       squad bench.
 The
Vikings showed they mean business as big Mike Tice cut two starting
DBs yesterday as well as backup punter/kickoff man, Travis Dorsch,
       who originally
beat Bennett out for the starting punter job with Minnesota, Aug. 27th.
       Bennett was temporarily
released and had some of his greenbacks deferred until
next year in the two year
deal he signed in late Feb. QB injuries, to Drew Brees
       of San Diego, Brad Johnson
of Tampa Bay, Mark Brunell of Washington and Tommy
       (Arenaball) Maddox of
Pittsburgh took place putting all four of the fine pivots
       in jeopardy of not
playing this weekend. How about ageless Doug Flutie? He became
       the oldest player in NFL
history to rush for a TD, surpassing George Blanda, with
his 6 yard score v. the
Jets Sunday. Doug also passed for 77 yards and is 816
       yds., away from
59,000 Pro passing yards for his remarkable career. A-Mazing!
 Maddox was replaced
       v. Baltimore with top draft pick, Ben Roesthlisberger, who did OK.
       But who wouldn't be scared
against that Baltimore Defence? Brees tried to play
       after a partial concussion
and after answering 'Thursday' to the team Doc when
the Doc asked him how many
fingers he was holding up, was pulled too late for
       Doug Flutieball to do
anything heroic. The Chargers lost by seven to the Jersey
       Jets, who should be ashamed
of themselves for having great CFL players like Ricky
Ray and Matt Dominguez on their practice squads. I hope they don't
       sent these
two guys to the NFL 'AAA'S in Europe next spring, although I wouldn't
       mind seeing Werner Hippler
catching passes for Colonge from Ray.

 I also hear Dominguez
wouldn't mind an NFL paid for European vacation. Just as long as he
       doesn't run into Chevy
Chase and Co! Red Garcia was mercifully pulled from the
Brownie's lineup with 8 seconds left in one of the worst NFL games in
       the League's
85 year history! With Testeverde and Garcia trading INTs in the second
       quarter it seemed like
Cleveland would pull off the upset with a last seconds
       throw from rookie QB
Cade McCown (not to be confused with current Football unemployed
       Cade McNown (a flop with
the Bears, Dolphins, 48ers). But guess who knocked down
       his pass to about Dallas
five yard line? FS Keyshawn Johnson.

 That's right FS K.
       Johnson! Boy if that
Parcells don't know how to make chicken salad out of chicken you know
       what, I don't know who
does! Big days by ex-CFL'r's Mike Vandejagt, Mike Sellers
       (Washington) and Joe Horn
(Memphis). Horn had 8 catches, for 120 yards, 1 TD and
no cell phones in the end zone! I left a message for him to call me last
year but I didn't mean for
him to do it during a nationally televised game! How did
       he and ex-Arenaball'r
Mike Lewis know which goalpost pad in which end zone to place
       the cellphone under?! How
about Kurt (Mad Dog) Warner? Still think he's through,
Scott? Randy Moss also was terrible
Monday night with 4 drops and two Offencive
       pass interference calls in
the Eagles spanking of overrated Minnesota. And I
       still don't think QB/TE/FB
Duante Culpepper is anything all that either. It would have
       made much more sense last
year for the Viking s to have kept hometowner Todd Bouman
and New Orlean to have kept their hometowner, Jake (cajan snake) Delhomme!

Colts, Saints, Seahawks, Steelers (even though I don't like Black and

Pats, Fish, Cowboys, Jets, Vikings as the

 I
had a fantastic day Sunday watching all the NFL. Great games but my
highlight was watching new Viking star punter Darren Bennett up against
newcomer Mat McBriar, for the Cowboys the 1st ever Aussie Challenge in
       the NFL.

Tonight: Green Bay at Super Bowl Runner-up, Carolina

Week One Notes / Observations: Quite an interesting Punting dual,
Minnesota v. Dallas. The student becomes the master, eh? Young Mat
McBriar, who broke all one of my marks at the University of Hawai'i,
threw his first incomplete pass of his NFL career but out punted great
vet Darren Bennett, the best Punter in NFL history (and NFL E as well!).
The Vikings cruised which is why Parcell's had Mat try that fake punt.
The intended receiver turned the wrong shoulder to the ball. Anyway,
it'll be along year in big 'D', I think. In Cleveland, the Red Garcia Era
got off on the right foot of the hand (Sorry, Greg Frers), so to speak
with the Browns 20-3 win over hapless Baltimore (did these guys REALLY
win the Super Bowl 3 yrs ago?). Red had three rushes for 13 yards and a
TD. And completed 15 of 24 passes for 180 yards and one TD pass, with no
INTs and no fumbles or sacks. I expect Cleveland in the playoffs with at
least a wildcard. Cleveland has the best QB trio in the Division.

Memo to Dennis Erickson: the two QB system with the pivots you have won't
work. Just start Tim Rattay, mediocore as he is. I know Dorsey won 37
games, including Bowls, etc., with Miami but he isn't ready yet. Rattay
threw two fourth-quarter TDs but his two-pt try for the tie was knocked
down at the goalline. Jim L. Mora, son of James Ernest Tabor Mora (the
elder), won game one in his career. His dad won 141 games between the
NFL/USFL and was in three USFL Championships. Other ex-USFL'r's to try to
Coach in the NFL: Marv Levy, formerly of Montreal/Buffalo, very
successful. But Steve Spurrier and Lindy Infante, not so successful. I
like the backfield Washinton used much of the game v. Tampa; Brunell at
pivot, Winnipeg's Mike Sellers at FB and Clint Portis at Halfback. Portis
is really the only reason Washington won the game but Brunell and Portis
need to work on those handoffs. A better Centre than Len Friedman would
help. Memo to Boss Hog, Joe Bugel: move him to guard and get Moe
Elewonibi back to Washington as it seems that most ex-Washington'r's end
up in Winni- peg. Speaking of the Blue Bombers, they just picked up QB
(supposedly) Tee Martin. G.M. Brandon Taman must really be desperate!
Ex-Memphis Mad Dog Joe Horn had a big day with 6 catches for 110 yards in
Saints loss. And no TDs and no cell phones in the end zone. It was a
rough weekend for Jim Haslett's 'Aint's.

Bravo to rapidly developing Drew Brees of the Chargers. See, Doug Fluite
is a good mentor after all. And with young Phil Rivers on Board, who
needs Eli Manning. Or Peyton Manning. Or even Ricky Manning, Jr.? Eli got
garbage time with the Giants V. Philly after Kurt Warner got beat up
behind that Papermache Offencive Line and played like garbage completing
only 3 of 9 passes. Can you say 1st round Bust? I think Ryan Leaf is safe
for the moment! LaDainian Tomlinson is the MAN but so is Shawn Alexander.
They are simply the best RBs in Pro Football, respect to the CFL's Mike
Pringle, who is now number two alltime between the CFL/NFL Pro Rushing
stats. Pringle now at 16, 832 combined NFL/CFL. But old Emmitt Smith also
had 87 yards yesterday to make his career total now 17, 500 yards.
