05 "ArenaBowl
XIX Game Summary! Arena Football Alltime
Coach
and ArenaBowl QB Rankings
by Moose
& Scott Baxter!" Myk
"Poor Doug Plank. The current
Georgia Force Coach and former Arizona Rattler Defencive Coordinator lost his
fourth consecutive ArenaBowl, yesterday in Las Vegas, NV., the home of the next
two ArenaBowls. The Colorado Crush, owned by John Elway, Pat Bowlen and Stan
Kronke won their first ArenaBowl with
Their three year old franchise and Denver
won it’s second in League history. The Crush beat the Force, 51-48 on a last
seconds FG by K Clay Rush. On Gabriel Morency’s Sportsrage, last a.m., Friday
morning, I predicted an ‘over’ Of 99 points, which was reached by both teams
exactly. I had predicted a 50-49 Colorado victory. Close enough, eh?
Colorado Coach Mike Dailey is now 2-0 in
ArenaBowls with Another victory coming with the Firebirds over Jay Gruden’s
Predators in 1999, 58-49. The Firebirds last season in the Arena League was last year in Indiana, where current New
Orlean Saints QB draftee, Adrian McPherson played.
Game Balls in ArenaBowl XIX for:
1)
John Dutton, QB, Colorado, now also 2-0 in ArenaBowls.
2)
Mike Dailey, Coach, Colorado. At midseason the Crush Had lost three
games in a row as four starters were out. No problema, as Dailey simply kept the
Crush on a steady course and didn’t panic.
3)
Crush 51% Owner John Elway, for not not panicking also during the
three game slide at midseason. Elway praised his Coach as the reason that the
Crush didn’t go south particularly after a horrendous 89-41 demolishing v.
defending Champ San Jose, who Dutton QB’d to the
ArenaBowl in ’02, after a season ending injury to Mark Grieb.
4)
Willis Marshall, the ex-Calgary Stampeder Grey Cup Champion, who
rushed for three TDs yesterday as both teams combined for 5 first half rushing
TDs.
5)
Clay [Icewater] Rush, K, Colorado for his game winning kick.
Where do Dailey and Dutton rank alltime in ArenaBowl Coaching and
QBing respectfully?
Coaches:
Tim Marcum, Tampa Bay, (2) Jay Gruden, Orlando, (3) Danny, White,
Utah, (4) Mike Dailey, Colorado
QBs - Best in Arena

And
then there were two left...American Conference Champs, John
Elway's Colorado Crush, who I will be rooting for come Sunday in
the World Championship of Indoor Pro Football. Elway's Crush, defeated
Iron Mike Ditka's Rush (no pun intended!), of Chicago as Andy
McCullough and ex-Calgary Stampeder Willis Marshall starred.
Final:
Colorado 49, Chicago 43, O.T.
In
the National Conference, the Georgia Force made Coach Doug Plank's
day, by allowing him to get to an Arena League record 4th straight
ArenaBowl as a Coach (the last three years his Arizona Rattler's,
who lost all three ArenaBowls, made it there with Plank as
Defencive Coordinator), by barely beating the stubborn Orlando Predators,
60-58.
This
Sunday, ArenaBowl XIX from Las Vegas. American Conference Champ
Colorado v. National Conference Champ Georgia. 3 p.m., EST NBC

Moose "Last Week Sportsrage Host Gabriel Morency and I disagreed on two of
the Four
Games,
but I did pick all four right:
In
the American Conference, I picked John Elway’s Colorado Crush to beat
The
San Jose Sabrecats and they did, 55-48. I also picked the Chicago Rush
Over
the Los Angeles Avergers out at Staples Centre Arena. They won, on
The
road, 52-45.
Over
in the National Conference, I picked the Orlando Predators on the road
Over
the New York Dragons, They won, 47-42. No surprise down South as
The
Georgia Force beat the Tampa Bay Storm, 62-46.
Week
Nineteen is upon us and the, and the Conference Finals are here.
In
the American Conference this week, I’m picking John Elway vs Colorado
Crush
to.(surprise), lose to the Chicago Rush with their great RUSHing attach and In
the National Conference, the CFLs second leading sacker of all time,
Elfrid
(SWAC) Payton has just about made Orlando’s pass rush too much to handle.
Sorry
Doug (46) Plank and the Georgia Force, Orlando by 9 over you guys.
I
said at the beginning of the year, Orlando and Chicago in ArenaBowl XIX and
I

For the first time I did Gabe
Morency's Sportsrage three times in the last week. He had me on even Sunday
morning at 11:30 a.m., EST talking about the Arena Football League's Nineteenth
Season Playoffs. I say: Orlando aaaalllll ttheee way. Especially after they
signed Elfrid Payton, 14-yr. CFL vet off the Tampa Bay Storm's practice squad
[Hey Myk: Pls. post THIS on Total-CFL for me. Danke!] If one wonders why New
Orleans is in deep voodoo, and will
miss the playoffs this year, put it this way: Coach Mike Neu is now 0-5 v. Jay
Gruden, Coach of the Predators, who let his brother Jon, Coach of the Tampa
Buccs address his team before their Sun., NBC game.
QB Andy Kelly, Pro Football's alltime
leading TD thrower (735 now) is 0-12 v. Jay Gruden, at QB or Coach. Talk about a
Hoodoo that Jay Gruden Doo so well...For the second year in-a-row Las Vegas
flamed out before the playoffs and ended up 8-8, not 7-9 and as I erroneously
said in my 2005 Ar.FL preview (see, Bob Molinaro, I Doo correct my mistakes!)
Week 17 Scores:
Chicago 45, Nashville 21
Orlando 51, New Orleans 40
Arizona 49, Las Vegas 42
Dallas 77,
Philadelphia 63
San Jose 54, Georgia 48
Grand Rapids 71, Los Angeles 65
Milestones:
G.R. / Toronto Argo pivot Mike Bishop set an alltime Ar.FL rushing record with
459 yards rushing in a season. That's like 900 yards outdoors! Also: San Jose's
great QB Mark Grieb set a new Ar.FL passing record with 4,803 yards in a single
season.
Week
17 Game Balls:
1) Tim Marcum, Tampa Bay, Coach
2) Jay Gruden, Orlando, Coach
3) Jon Gruden, Tampa Bay Buccs Coach

4) Matt DOrazio, Columbus QB-RB
5) E.J. Burt, Orlando, DE/OG

Scores, Notes, Game Balls
Bryan
Adams the award-winning Canadian singer/rocker will play the lead
role at halftime of ArenaBowl XIX, June 12th, 2005, and I won't be there.
Oh well; The ArenaCup is where I'm headed, August 27th & 28th. Also:
according to the printed version of Pro Football Weekly, in an article
by Gary (US?) Bonds, the ArenaBowl will be played in Las Vegas THE
NEXT THREE YEARS (though 2007), so relax, MykAussie!
Week 16 Scores:

Tampa Bay 61, New York 58
Grand Rapids 51, Chicago 40
Columbus 55, Philadelphia 52
Colorado 52, Nashville 49
Week
16 Notes - Dallas,
San Jose, the defending Champs and Chicago have picked the wrong
time to go cold. Dallas has missed the ArenaBowl playoffs for the second
straight year and Chicago and San Jose are teetering on the edge.
See, Columbus, what happens when you are patient with QB Matt D'Orazio.
A stellar performance v. Philly and he outguns overrated Tony Graziani,
who probably makes four times as much as Matt does! Austin is
the best 6-10 team in Arena Football history! Big game in the TD Waterhouse
Centre Arena this weekend; Orlando v. New Orleans and I believe the
boys from the Big Easy are in 'Deep Voodoo!' Jay Gruden and Co. all
the way, like Ray
Bentley and I have said from the beginning.
WEEK
16 Game Balls:
1) Matt D'Orazio, QB, Columbus

The
Playoff picture has cleared up considerably with the Loss of both Southern
Division rivals, New Orlean and Tampa Bay yesterday. I predict in the American
League, San Jose, Las Vegas, Chicago and Colorado will make the Playoffs.
In
the National Conference, it should be Orlando, Georgia, Dallas and New York.
Yesterday, on NBC’s halftime show, Windbag Ron ‘Jaws’ Jaworski, former
Super Bowl losing QB for the Philthydelphia Eagles, said the Ar.FL should Become
more like the NFL to attract more fans. I say bull-Bleep! I like the Arena
Football League and it’s younger Cousin, Arenafootball2 just as they are!
Don’t change any Of the rules. In fact, Sportswriter Ken Saroka and I
discussed This some time back: the League is GETTING too much like the NFL
anyway! Besides, the NFL runs the Arena officiating Anyway.
I
wouldn’t read too much into the Orlando loss at Austin, who Is a very good 5-2
at home this year. New Orleans and Tampa, Orlando’s Southern Division rivals
both lost, so why cry overSpilt milk (type A2, I hope).
Arena
League Milestones this weekend. Even though the League doesn’t recognize New
Orlean QB Andy Kelly’s 17 TD passes outdoors, for the NFL ‘AAA’ Rhein Fire
in 1995-’96, he still is Pro Football’s all time leading TD passer. Kelly is
seven behind New York’s Aaron Garcia in ALLTIME ARENA TD passes (711-704) but
he reached 700 Pro TDs Before Garcia did, including his 17 NFL E TD passes. Two
Grand Rapids Rampage players (maybe soon three?) have set Arena League single
season and career marks that are worth Noting: FB/LB Chris Avery, who started
his Pro Football career Here for the Norfolk Nighthawks, of Af2, has set a
single season Record for most tackles by a FB/LB, with 49.0. That’s solo
tackles, Guys. DS Damon Mason, who helped the Orlando Predators get to Three
straight ArenaBowls back in the late ‘90’s / ’00, is now the
All time leading tackler in Arena Football history, period. He has 703.0
total career tackles to San Jose’s Barry Wagner’s 698.0. Wags played
alongside Mason on the Predators’ ’98 Ar.FL Championship team.Ex-CFL’r WR,
Demetrious Bendross, Ex-SASK./Ottawa RoughRenegade, has cut his teeth in Arena
Ball the last two weeks and played pretty well. He has six catches For 4 TDs. He
should be back in Ottawa for the start of the CFL’s 97th season,
June 17th.
Week
15 Game Balls:
John
Fitzgerald, QB, Austin
Damon Mason, DS, Grand Rapids
Leon Murray, QB, Nashville

Bye:
Dallas
How about the (late)
surging Nashville Kats, eh? Five consecutive wins without a loss! They tied Dallas five weeks ago and have
now won four in a row. Getting the quality players they did in trades before the
trade deadline, did the trick as Nashvegas was under the salary cap anyway. It's
apparent that this is just not poor Columbus ' year. No matter what Coach Chris
Spielman tries, it blows up in his face. Hey, Chris - stop being such a sourpuss
and rotating QBs! You should have never spent all that offseason money on a
lemon like injury-prone ex-Chi./ Toronto pivot as Chad Salisbury! Around trade
deadline time, the Destroyers did ship him and his hefty contract to Grand
Rapids , who is almost equally bad. But Grand Rapids already has exciting
double-dipper [CFL/Ar.FL'r], Michael Bishop.
Speaking of
'double-dippers', Tampa Bays Kelvin Kinney and Jonathan Ordway really kicked
butt last weekend to help keep Tampa 's slim playoff hopes alive. Orlando should
be OK once they get Joe Hamilton and Jimmy Fryzel and Kenny 'The Glove' McEntire
back off I.R. soon. They're loss to Philly really doesn't hurt as much as come
people think. But Tampa needs to do their cross-state rival a favor and beat
Doug Plank's Georgia Force this weekend. I think they will.
But SHhhh!! Don't tell
Plank I said that! Game Balls this week to:
1) Marcus Knight, OS-WR/DB,
Philadelphia , who is just about lethal!
2) John Fitzgerald, QB,
Austin. Why, Coach Skip Foster, did you have
him on the bench
earlier in the year behind - gasp! - Bobby Pesavento?!
3) Kevin Kinney, DE/TE/ST'r,
Tampa Bay
4) Michael Bishop, QB,
Grand Rapids . Somebody pls. explain to me why this team needs Chad Salisbury,
Darnell Kennedy and on the practice squad, Nick (Fumbles) Browder, when they
have potentially the most
exciting player in
Ar.FL history, Mike Bishop? Why do we here rumors each week that Bishop might be
benched for one of the other three guys? Bishop is already 8th in A.rFL history
in rushing - and he's only been in the League two seasons!
5) T.T. Toliver" Moose

Arizona 52, Austin 26 (Austin now two straight LOSSES @ home)
The
Ar.FL playoff chase is almost decided, and NBC will have a terrific game
this weekend, Las Vegas v. Chiacgo. Hey Ron 'Jaws' Jaworski, still
think you and Bon Jovi have an "elite" team? Nevermind Jon, I always
liked Cheap Trick (especially with JON B Brant on bass), better. Utah
is the first of next year's expansion teams to be announced. Danny White,
with his 141 wins, second in Ar.FL history, will be the Coach. Lee Johnston
is his first choice as an Ast. Coach, but Hunkie Cooper could be next.
Somebody ought to pick up Hunkie soon for the playoffs, as a player. Boy,
talk about a rout. No, not Philadelphia for a change, Colorado.
That's right, Pat Bowlen
and John Elway's Crush. Lost by 48 at San Jose. You'll love
this; ex-Hawai'i QB Nick Rolovich (played the second half) and starter Mark
Grieb both COMPETED THEIR FIRST 17 PASSES - EACH!! Both tying each
other for Ar.FL team and League records. Grieb lead San Jose to 45
points and Rolovich 44! In the
last two weeks, the Crush have given up a combined 165 POINTS! Hey Big John
and Coach Mike Dailey, what happened?! I
still think Colorado will back in the playoffs. All those injuries are the
culprit. But speaking of
injuries, The Orlando Predators and Jay Gruden, now fifth in Arena
League history in wins, are hanging in there.
They won at home in TD Waterhouse
Centre Arena, 52-49 over Georgia, but got a huge break at the end
of the game when Troy Bergeron's TD catch from QB Matt Nagy, was ruled incomplete.
But Arena League, pls. no instant replay! Columbus continues to find
new ways to lose and Tampa Bay will miss it's first playoffs ever under Coach
Tim Marcum. They blew
there game v. Nashville and Philly got finished off by New York,
who PROBABLY won't make the playoffs either. Serves knucklehead QB Aaron
Garcia right for listening to that idiot Tapac (of sugar?)!

Game
Notes, Ar.FL - Somebody
will be fired in Columbus this week. Mark it down. Especially
after a blowout like this weekend! Wow! Philadelphia, who
spent $300,000+ on a very good QB, this past off season, should
have gotten some Defensive help instead! Coach James Fuller,
the poor guy, has gotta be ready to bang his head against the
liberty bell! He'll learn. But thank Bon Jovi and the Amateurs for
his dilemma; he's not ready to be a Pro Football H.Coach, as evidenced
by his 3-5 record (so far). Dallas will rebound from their tie
to Nashvegas next week, on NBC, regional considerations, of course.
Friday night in my area, we get to see the Desperados v. hapless
Columbus. Congratulations to Colorado's Kyle Mooore-Brown for
the setting the Arena Football all time record for most consecutive starts;
168, breaking Flint Fleming's mark of 167, pretty remarkable for

neck and spine in a freak injury, making a routine kick coverage tackle in Los
Angeles win at the Staples Centre, Sunday afternoon. Al played in 20 games for
the Carolina Panthers in 2000-01. He was the last player cut by the Panthers on
the eve of the 2002 season.
In
October 2002 he signed to play with the Tampa Bay Storm and helped them win
their 5th Arena Bowl title in club history, an Arena League record, in the
spring of '03. He teamed with CFL great Kelvin Kinney and former Kansas
University star, Nyle Wiren on the D-Line that lead the League in sacks and
tackles. In Oct. '03 he signed a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Avengers,
who he played for until his untimely death, Sunday, at only age 26. Lucas was
6'1" and 300 lbs., and quick! He was leading Arena League at tackles and
sacks upon his death and seemed to be headed back to the NFL, or at least back
to an NFL camp this summer. Lucas played has college ball at Troy State in

Nashville 41, Dallas 41 - tie (The second tie game in Ar.FL history; the first?
try New England and Los Angeles in 1988! Coach Pat Sperduto of the Kats did well
on the halftime of the NBC game Sunday)
Arizona
70, Grand Rapids 53 (poor Michael Bishop - Penthouse [Toronto in the CFL, Grey
Cup winners to the Outhouse in the Ar.FL with G.R.]
Week
11 Ar.FL Game Balls:
1)
John Dutton, QB, Colorado
2) Al Lucas, OL/DL/STs, Los Angeles, R.I.P.
3) Clif Del, WR/DB, Tampa Bay
4) Ray Philyaw, QB, Chicago
5) Damien Harrell, OS, Colorado
Best
Signing of the Year; Tony Graziani, QB, Philadelphia Worst Move of the Year;
Philadelphia, a second year club, axing an excellent Coach like Mike Trigg and
basically replacing him with a question mark? Dumbest remark of the Year:
Ron Jaworski, former Philadelphia Super Bowl QB saying the 'Soul(less)es' have
"an elite team." Yea, right, sure, Jaws.
Best
Ownership in the League, John Elway / Pat Bowlen – Colorado
Worst Ownership in the League: Jon Bon Jovi / Craig Spencer / Ron Jawaorski,
Philadelphia. What amatuers! [That's what got Tampa legend
Tim
Marcum suspended the last two weeks and the first two weeks of next season -
criticizing Philly. Well Dave Baker and Co., you can't suspend me!]
**Colorado's
Damien Harrell has set a new Ar.FL record with his 43rd game with at
least one TD. Way to go D.H.! ** Don't forget Ar.FL fans, May 23rd the NBC Las
Vegas show has John Elway and 'lil' Jon, Bon Jovi that was just taped last week!
Georgia Coach Doug
Plank took 60 stitches to the face when a
Tampa player crashed over the boards two weeks ago. He caught
the former Chicago Bear / Chicago Blitz player with the
buckle on his helmet. Plank was FINALLY REMOVED from
the field, got stitched up and returned to Coach out the game!
What a guy! Someone WHO HAD TO HAVE PLAYED in
the good 'ole USFL! Former XFL / CFL B.C. Lion /NFL Super
Bowl Packer, Mike Sutton (I have his XFL card! Memphis Maniax!)
has been almost unstoppable for the Storm the last 2 weeks!
Versus Philly, in the loss that got Marcum squaking &
suspended for bashing the Commish and Refs for favorin' Philly
(!), Sutton blocked a kick, had 1.5 sacks and recovered a
fumble. Versus Orlando, in the 37th version of the war on I-4, Sutton
had nine tackles and 2 pass breakups

"There's
an old saying - "Don't Mess with Texas". In the Ar.FL this season,
it should be, "Don't Mess
with Texas Arena Football Teams at home!" The Austin
Wranglers and Dallas Desperados are a combined 7-1 at home this year.
Austin's only loss was to guess who? Dallas, in the Battle of Texas.
Expect
Columbus Offencive Coordinator Pete Costanza to be fired any day now
after the Destroyers got beat again at home. He simply is an overacheiing Af2
Coach who can't compete in the show. He is doing Coach Chris Speilman and QB
Matt D'Orazio no favors. The Los Angeles / Orlando game was simply
a typical great L.A. / Orlando game. Two of the best Coaches in the League,
Orlando's Jay Gruden and L.A.'s Ed Hodgkiss teed it up and went at
it for 5 periods with the A's falling on the road by one point. I'll be
on Gabe Morency's Sports
Rage with "This Week in Arena Football" again this Fridayin the
a.m. at 01:45-2:00. That's 10:45-11:00 p.m. for our friends and fans in
