Nov 21 05 "Crush Honored at Broncos game! Arena
Football League Off season Report for Nov.-Dec. 2005 Rich Salzer & Scott
Baxter!" Myk
From
Moose and Scott "The Arena Football League and MYKwebTV would like to
introduce the newest Indoor Pro Football League team, the Kansas City Brigade.
With a logo similar to the old Af2 Wichita Stealth, the team is owned by Tyler
Prochnow and Neil Smith, the ex-Denver and Kansas City of the NFL. Sunday,
November 20th, 2005 the Denver Broncos celebrated the Colorado
Crush’ ArenaBowl Nineteen Championship with a ring ceremony at the Broncos
Invesco Field @ halftime.
The
Crush are owned 51% by John Elway, the greatest QB in Pro Football History and
minority Partners, Calgary’s Pat Bowlen, the Broncos owner and Saint Louis
Rams part-owner Stan Kronke, who owns both the Colorado Rockies and Colorado
Avalanche. Elway is the best Arena Football League V.P., taking great steps in
the three year history of the Crush to win the team the Championship. First was
a very difficult decision to release the Coaching staff of th team’s first
season, which included several ex-Bronco players and his late father Jack’s
friend, former Coach Bob Beers, Sr., who Jack knew from Coaching in the NFL
‘AAA’s. Secondly getting Coach Mike Dailey from the rival Firebirds then
signing the players necessary to win a Pro Football Championship.
In
other Arena League Free Agency News, Orlando resigned a player who helped them
go to three straight Championships from 1998-00; Clif Del, DB/WR-QB. Quoth
Predator’s Coach Jay Gruden: “It’s great to get a player like Clif back. A
dependable TD catcher and WR.” Country singer Tim McGraw, a minority owner
along with Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams, of the Nashville Kats, who has
apparently taken over Monday Night Football singing chores from Hank Williams,
Jr., will have a benefit Concert to kick off the Kats 2006 season. Look for it
in Nashvegas in early ’06.” Moose, Scott

League Profile: Deatrich Wise, former Player and Af2 Coach
Deatrich
Wise is considered by many to be the third best player ever out of Jackson State
University (behind of course, Walter Payton, RB and OLm Jackie Slater). Wise
played for the Saints during the 1987 replacement games and in 1988. In 1989 he
moved up north to the Canadian Football League to the British Columbia Lions
where he played in the Western Finals. He moved back down to New Orleans in the
Ar.FL for the ‘91’-’92 seasons. From 1993-95 he played for the Tampa Bay
Storm and won Championships in ’93 and ’95. He first became an Ast. Coach in
Pro Football with the Storm and later made to the (then) new Af2 League and was
named H.Coach by the Triuvriate of Kenny Easley, Jr., Bruce Smith and Billy Mann
in 2000. He should have been Coach of the year in the Af2 in ’00, as he lead
the Norfolk Nighthawks to an 11-7-0 record
and a away from the first ArenaCup Championship, with the team falling to
eventual Champion Quad City, 75-27 in the Semi-Finals.
The
Nighthawks got off to a slow start, 0-4 in ’01, because as Wise [pronounced
‘Vise’ in german] lost 19 of 21 players to the Arena League. Wise and I had
a good talk before the Lakeland / I.C. Norcom
game,
as I started covering High School Football games here for the local Norfolk
Pilotnewspaper, last year. Wise was let go as H.Coach and Mike Buck, an ex-NFL/XFL
QB took over. Wise was stashed in the
organization
and next season became Line Coach, a position he held until the team went under
following the ’03 season. He was then hired as Coach of Norcom.
Wise was let go recently because of an unfortunate incident in which the the
team Norcom was playing was using a foreign substance on their upper body and
pads. Wise talked to the VHSL officials about it and when they did virtually
nothing, he didn’t allow his players to shake hands with the other team of
cheaters following the game. I wish Deatrcih well, wherever he goes. He will
probably end up back in Af2 in a Line Coaching position. Good Luck Deatrich,
you’re a fine player, Coach and man." Moose
Fri,
Sept 30 05 "Meet
the Utah Blaze! Arena
Football Offseason News" Moose
The Arena League’s
newest team, the Utah Blaze should be very competitive in the Ar.FL’s
twentieth season. The Blaze are Coached by Danny White, former 13-year Dallas
Cowboy QB and 13 year former Arizona Rattler Coach. White, Coached the Rattlers
to 5 ArenaBowl appearances and two wins. He is assisted by Cedric Bonner, former
13 year Rattler QB who lead the Rattlers to one win in four ArenaBowl Qbing
gigs.
Also assisting White
will be Hunkie Cooper, another 13-year Pro player (Houston-NFL/12-yr. Rattler),
who has 21,000+ Yards in his Pro career. He is seventh alltime in Pro Football
History behind Mike ‘Pinball’ Clemons, Henry ‘Gizmo’ Williams, Jerry
Rice, Walter Payton, Brian Mitchell and Barry Wagner in career total all purpose
yardage. In the front office in a management position are: brothers, or shall we
say Hawai’ian Brudders, Tau and Alema Harrington, formerly with the Hawai’ian Islanders of the Af2. Alema used to host the
Islander Weekly Show on Hawai’I cable TV and Tau used to cover Media
for the Islanders and they looked out for me real well in the Aloha state when
in ’04 I covered two Islander
games in June ’04.
The Expansion draft
brought in many fine players to help the Blaze get off to a competitive start
(Everett Washington in Af2 with it’s Hawks will be a ‘AAA’ affiliate), and
with the cessation of operations with New Orlean Voodoo, the Blaze will compete
right away. Here’s a look at the players that will play for your Utah Blaze in
’06:
WR/LB Justin Skaggs
– experience with Wash.-NFL/Amsterdam-NFLE
and last year with the
always good Orlando Predators.
OL/DL Fred Ray who has played with both Philadelphia and Orlando-Ar.FL
OL/DL Clenton Ballard – Austin
WR/DB Dave Hill – Austin
K Tim Seder – Philadelphia
OL/DL A.J. Blazek – Chicago
TE/DE, FB-LB Rich McCelskey – Austin
OL/DL Maurice Anderson – Colorado’s ArenaBowl Champs
FB/LB Sedrick Irvin, OL/DL Ronnie Washington – both from Columbus
WR/DB Cerdic Bonner (the other one) and OL/DL Ben Huff (Detriot/
Barcelona / Indianapolis / Dallas)
OL/LB Dary Myricks – Georgia
OL/DE Madison Johnson – Grand Rapids
C/NG Chris Butterfield – Los Angeles
QB Adrian McPherson (presently no.3 with Saints – NFL)
FB/LB Chin Achedbe - New York
WR/LB Eddie Brown, FB/LB Kevin Clemons, DS Eric Joyce, DS Tony Scott,
DS Jeroid Johnson, a veteran player from both Af2 and the Ar.FL" Moose
