Wed, Aug 24 "CFL update week 9! 1/2 way comments! Week 10 picks!" Moose

Week Nine Gameballs

Henry Burris, QB Calgary
, Damon Allen, QB Toronto Analyst / Footballer, Sean (The Gloves) Millington, RB/reserve, TO. Ricky Ray, QB Edmonton Kevin Glenn, QB Winnipeg (see what having Russ Michna pushing Glenn Will do?)

B.C – Great start. But can they finish it out this year. Maybe.

Calgary – Great MOVE GETTING RID of Feterik’s and bring in Higgins.
But Denny Crehan is a lousy Defencive Coordinator!

Hamilton – Still trying to get a very good Coach fired. At least Danny Mac
is back. But for how long? If Marshall starts Khari again, he should be fired!

Edmonton – Shouldn’t have lost to Toronto, the most overrated team in theLeague!

Montreal – Hey Don, where the hell is the Defence this year?!

Ottawa -  The Surprise team in the East, but 4-4 ain’t gonna save
Paopao’s job. Forrest Gregg (failure @ Shreveport and Toronto) to the rescue?

Saskatchewan – Fire Roy Shivers, fire Danny Barrett, whatever the cries will
be if this multitalented but seriously injured squad doesn’t make the playoffs with THAT roster. But for crying out loud, please stop torturing my man Nealon Greene. I told them last year they should have signed Shawn Withy-Allen!

Toronto – Totally overrated. Hopefully this is Damon Allen – and Sean Millington’s last year. Sean, you shouldn’t have worn those gloves in the studio on T.V. Only Pinball will get this bunch back to the playoffs again. Winnipeg – It took Jim Daley awhile, but these guys will make the playoffs, or they or Saskatchewan will crossover. But with young southpaw Russ Michna (three TDs and O INTs, so far) breathing down Glenn’s neck, notice how quickly Kevin got healthy. He’s still not out of the woods! I still say Michna may be the guy down the stretch. Playoffs for sure!

Week Ten Picks:
Calgary OVER Toronto
Hamilton OVER Winnipeg
Edmonton OVER Montreal
Saskatchewan OVER B.C. [upset special. And if the Riders lose again,
Somebody’s head will roll!]

Thurs, Aug 18 "CFL update! Week 9 picks" Moose

CFL Update
Scores from Week Eight:
Winnipeg 44, Hamilton 14
Ottawa 22, Saskatchewan 17
Montreal 18, Toronto 10
British Columbia 39, Calgary 31

Well, my picks of Hamilton and Calgary to win, didn't come out. But Calgary has played very well lately and they make the Playoffs, Tom Higgins should be flat out Coach of the Year. Where has Saskatchewan's Offence gone, eh? Real embarrassing loss to former Dormat, Ottawa. The Roughrenegades are pulling out all the stops to save likable Coach Joe (Coconuthead) Paopao's job. I still say he's headed for the soup line, but we'll see. Good luck, amigo Joe. Myk is right - right now Hamilton does suck for some inexplicable reason. I know Danny Mac is the best pivot have and he's out but for gosh sakes, Mr. Marshall, Khari is way past his prime! Marcus Brady isn't getting a fair shake in Steeltown. His stats have been good in 3 of the 4 games he's played. At least Khari ran for a TD...

Game Balls, CFL, for Week 8:
1)  Corey Holmes, RB/KR in a loss for Roughriders.
2)  Kevin Glenn, QB, Winnipeg (has exciting young Russ Michna breathing
down his neck for playing time. Both however looked very godd v. Hamilton)
3)  Keith Stokes, SB/KR, Winnipeg
4)  Korey Banks, Ottawa. He was outstanding!
5)  Dave Dickenson, QB, B.C. back after a week out with injury.

Week Nine Picks:
Montreal OVER Calgary
Winnipeg OVER Ottawa
Hamilton OVER B.C.
Edmonton OVER Toronto" Moose

Tues, Aug 9 "CFL update!" Moose

Week Seven Scores:
Montreal 42, Saskatchewan 13
British Columbia 25, Edmonton 19
Ottawa 28, Hamilton 12
Calgary 30, Winnipeg 22

 Week Seven Game Balls:
1) Sam Young, DB, B.C.
2) Casey Printers, QB, B.C.
3) Anthony Calvillo, QB, Mont.
4) Jermaine Copeland, WR, Calgary
5) Russ Michna, QB, Winnipeg

* Winnipeg WILL beat Hamilton if red-hot Michna (pronouced MYK-na) is @ pivot for the Bombers. + Toronto WILL beat (or Tie) Montreal if Mike Bishop plays QB. Additional Notes: Memo to Mike Daley @ Lake City; Start red-hot young'N Russ Michna next weekend or your job will be on the line. Unlike Kerry Joseph, who is having a surprisingly good season - so far (!), Tee Martin is another NFL / NFL E reject who isn't the answer, despite his good strong young body and mobility. Michna looked outstanding, throwing 14 completions and 2 TDs in the fourth quarter @ Calgary. At least the Bombers beat up the Stamps. Slumping Saskatchewan is an enigma - but they still are way better than Hamilton who seems to be trying to get a very good Coach in Greg Marshall fired. Shame on them for that idiotic 0-6 mark. Even without Danny Mac, they are way better than that. Memo To Marshall: pls. DO NOT start Khari (Washed up ) Jones this weekend. Please?

Profile: Winnipeg’s Russell T. Michna (pronounced MYK-na), 22. first year CFL QB. Other Pro experience: Fourth-string (practice squad) QB, 2004 season, Saint Louis Rams. He was given a training camp look by Rams, after signing one day before the Ram’s ’04 camp opened. Contract expired in Feb. Signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ONE DAY before their ’05 camp opened! Beat out vet Spurgeon Wynn

for the number three QB spot during final week of ’05 Preseason. All Winnipeg WRs & SBs think he throws the best balls of all four Bomber QBs (Wynn is on practice squad). First Left-handed QB in the 75 year history of the Blue Bombers! Palyed the fourth quarter of loss to Calgary, with Winnipeg trailing, 29-8. Threw 2 TDs and completed 13 of 18 passes, no INTs, no sacks, no fumbles. Calgary still won game, 30-22. Should start for the Blue Bombers this week. Watch out for this kid, Bomber fans.

Week Eight Picks:
Saskatchewan 2 OVER Ottawa
Calgary 1 OVER B.C. ("Doubt it" Myk)
Winnipeg 1 OVER Hamilton*
Montreal 3 OVER Toronto+

Wed, July 27 "CFL update week 5! Week 6 picks!" Moose

Week 5 Scores:
British Columbia 28, Hamilton 22
Winnipeg, no linger winless(!) 51, Montreal 46
Edmonton 29, Ottawa 21
Calgary 44, Sask Riders 18

CFL Notes, this week: The hot seat just got hotter in the Nations Capitol for poor 'ole Honolulu Joe Paopao! The Glieberboobs want two ears and a tail if Kindly old Joe can't give them Nine wins. By Labour Day, my insiders in Ottawa tell me, expect either Honolulu, Kani Kauahi, an ex-Warrior teammate (er, ah, Rainbow) of mine will be in the dirver's seat, or 71-yr.-old step-n'fetchit', NFL Hall-of-Famer Forrest Gregg. Kerry Joseph returning to earth this week as well. Game Balls for week Five in the CFL:

1)   Henry Burris, QB, Calgary
2)   Mark Washington, DB, B.C.
3)   Dave Dickenson, QB, B.C., the only undefeated team in the League
(still think I'm crazy, Mykaussie?!)
4)   Winnipeg Coach Jim Daley, who completely out coached The Coach,
Don Matthews
5)   Ricky Ray, QB, Edmonton

Week Six Picks
Montreal 6 OVER slumping Toronto
Saskatchewan 9 OVER Ottawa (poor Joe Paopao, a real sitting duck!)
Calgary (EVEN) B.C - you pick 'Em!
Hamilton OVER Edmonton by 1 - Hamilton is too good to keep losing!
Wendy's (Next) Monday Night CFL Football
Winnipeg OVER Toronto by 1- no rest for poor Mike Clemons Argos!

More CFL Notes: Those Hamilton WRs and SBs are doing QBs Danny
McManus and Marcus Brady (played in first two games) no favors. They
are dropping passes worse than the Seattle Seahawks WRs did last year.
Why did the Seahawks let Jerry Rice get away to DENVER? Whoops, sorry, NFL Previews coming. Wrong League!" Moose

Thurs, July 21st 05 "CFL Update IS Ottawa REALLY this good, well, no, but they are improved!" Moose

Week Four Game Balls:
Josh Ranek, RB, The Real MAN @ Ottawa
Lewyllen, ‘YO’ Murphy, SB-WR, Ottawa
Danny Barrett, Coach, Saskatchewan
Ricky Ray, QB, Edmonton
Tom Canada (great name!), DL-LB, Winnipeg

Week Four Scores:
Edmonton 14, Winnipeg 12
Ottawa 33, Calgary 18
British Columbia 30, Toronto 22
Saskatchewan   , Hamilton

First of all, in case nobody noticed, I’m not a Kerry Joseph fan. Except as a punt
returner, like when he helped the Rhein Fire win the NFL (‘AAA’) Europe Championship, v. Frankfurt, there in Spring ’98. But I have to give Kerry Joe a plug for his very good performance v. Calgary in the Lightning-prone Capitol last Saturday evening. Old Coconut-head, Joe Paopao, has his players Playing their butts off, collectively, to save his job. ("Yeh, Moose finally paid credit to Kerry Joseph who I think is a excellent youngish QB" Myk)

The CBC Panel had thirty extra minutes to gab last Saturday eve since the lighting stopped the start of the game until 7:30, EST. I disagree ENTIRELY about what Brian Williams, Sean Millington, Lil’ Flutie, who I do love and Greg Frers said about Time Magazine ("edit, edit, edit....... Moose ????? Come on be +ve about the CFL" Myk)

Week Five Picks:
Edmonton OVER Ottawa
Winnipeg OVER Montreal
Hamilton OVER B.C.
Saskatchewan OVER Calgary {sorry Jeff Younger and Old Paint!)

Canadian Football League Update Folkes, there's no time like the present to plan for the future. I know that the 93rd CFL Grey Cup is still five months away. But it's in Vancouver, and it'll be my 12th and my third in Vancouver since '94. But next year is not only Manitoba's third Grey Cup as a city but the Blue Bombers 75th season as a team. Do you know that the Bombers have been around longer than three quarters of the NFL? And the League has been around 11 years longer! That is special!

Now, here is a CFL Historical Figure who's profile I looked up in my voluminous files last night. I talked to him in Hawai'i, which is where my daughter is right now: Dick Thornton. Dick Thornton played 12 CFL seasons and two more in the World Football League for the Honolulu Hawai'ians in 1974-75. From 1961-66, Thornton played DB/QB/P for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. From 1967-72 he played WR-RB/KR for the Toronto Argonauts. He played fourteen seasons in the bigs and had 6,013 yards punting, 679 passing yards, blocked three kicks, had 338 yards receiving, 585 rushing yards, 42 INTs for 847 more yards (third in CFL history, when he retired), 3 fumble recoveries, 50 punt return yards on 8 returns and 525 more kick return yards. He also scored 23 TDs in the 14 Pro seasons. Why does it seem that players like Thornton and Cookie Gilchrist played so many positions in those days? Because the CFL used to only carry 32 players (up until 1973). Cookie Gilchrist, for example played all 60 minutes of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1957 Grey Cup win. Pls. support the CFL and all the great organizations.

BC Lions Hall/Wall of Fame "Hey Moose at last nights great game here in BC Lion land I got some signed Huge CFL cards from BC Lion Hall/Wall of Famer Alan Wilson. Reading Alan's HOF plague behind him he was #52, played from 1972-86, 233 games, Western all star 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81 Wow! CDN All Star 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80,81 Wow again! This guy must have been a absolute star. With Alan was Dwayne Derham a Defensive Lineman also signing magnificent Huge CFL cards." Myk Aussie

Tues, July 12th 05 "Moose's CFL report and week 4 picks!" Myk

Scores: Week 3:
Calgary 21, Winnipeg 15
Montreal 32, Edmonton 29
British Columbia 37, Ottawa 29
Toronto 27, Saskatchewan 26

Week Three Game Balls:

1)  Anthony Calvillo, QB, Montreal
2)  Anwar Stewart, DE, Montreal
3)  Travis Moore, WR-SB, Saskatchewan
4)  Nealon Greene, QB, Saskatchewan
5)  Henry Burris, QB, Calgary

Week 3 Observations: Well, well, well. Ottawa came back to earth this week. QB (?) K. Joseph has one 300+ - 400 + game every season then returns to earth. It'll be quite dull watching Calgary and Ottawa this Sat. night on Comcast / CBC. The Don, Matthews that is, is starting to lose his touch. Losing to Ottawa last week? Come on, Als! Ditto for the Roughriders, who blew a big lead to lose @ TO., to overrated Toronto!

Week 4 Picks:
Winnipeg 1 OVER Edmonton, O.T.
B.C. 12 OVER Toronto
Ottawa <TIE> Calgary
Saskatchewan 2 OVER Hamilton" Moose
