The first former Arena League
Player, Bobby Jurasin is among those former CFL players to be inducted into
the Canadian Football Hall of Fame & Museum in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada,
Sept. 2006. The 5 players are:
1) DE Bobby Jurasin, who played
his whole 12-year CFL career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jurasin played
on both the winning and loosing side of the Grey Cups; in 1989 Saskatchewan
won their last Grey Cup. He played again in the Grey Cup aas the Roughriders
lost, 43-27 to Toronto in 1997. Jurasin wrapped up his Pro Football career
with the (then) Ar.FL Iowa Barnstormers [who moved down to Af2 in '01 and
later were merged into the Quad City Steamwheelers]
2) Matt Dunigan, QB becomes the
first former US-CFL'r (Birmingham) to be inducted into the Canadian Football
Hall of Fame & Museum. Dunigan played 12 years in the CFL, also playing for
B.C., Winnipeg, Edmonton and Hamilton.
3) DB Victor Spencer, also a
builder. Spencer played for the short lived Vancouver Grizzlies, who played
about 6 or 7 games in 1941(WIFU), and had a great deal to do with the later
emergence of the B.C. Lions in 1953-54.
4) RB/KR/SB Henry 'Gizmo'
Williams, Edmonton, 15 CFL season, becomes the second USFL vet to make the
Canadian Football Hall of Fame in Hamilton. Williams started out with the
(late) Reggie White / (Dr.) Pepper Rodgers, Memphis Showboats of the USFL in
1985. He also played 13 games into the
Philadelphia Eagles 1989 season os a Punt Returner for a 17 yr. Pro career
5) WR Allen Pitts, who retired
as the CFL's alltime leading receiver. Pitts played his entire career with the
Calgary Stampeders. He had two try outs with the L.A. Raiders, going a full
camp twice but couldn't beat out former CFL WR 'Swervin' Mervyn Fernandez."

Fri,
Jan 27 06 "Matt Dunigan one of the CFL Hall of Fame nominations!" Moose
Matt Dunigan is the only QB in
Pro Football history to throw for 7,000+ yards in a season and 700+
yards in a game. He lead four different CFL teams (a record he shares with
Danny McManus) to Grey Cups, winning four in six trips. Only Tom Wilkin- son
and Russ Jackson lead teams to more Grey Cups in a career, eight (Wilkinson,
who shared the QB job with Warren Moon for four years at the end of his great
15-yr. CFL/Pro career, won six; Jackson five. Moon also won five and Doug
Flutie QB'd three teams to five Grey Cups, winning three in his eight years in
the League.
In my opinion, those are the
four best QBs in CFL history; (1) Doug Flutie, (2) Russ Jackson, tied
with Moon and (4) Dunigan, who obviously never split the job with anyone. (5)
Damon Allen and Wilkinson would be fifth, McManus sixth, (7) Kent Austin, (8)
Ron Lancaster, the first QB to pass for 50,000+ yards in a Pro career, (9) Joe
Krol (four Grey Cup wins in the '40's w/ Argos and 10th, Joe Kapp (B.C. /
Winnipeg Grey Cups in '60's and Vikings Super Bowl in '70) Honourable Mention,

From Monday. Happy New Year to all mine and
Moose's "USA, Friends Of the CFL mates"! Wow, that was amazing yesterday Doug
Flutie doing the drop kick for a point! It reminded me of the olden days in
Aussie Rules Footy when the drop kick was popular. My dad could do a great drop
kick but as I started playing in the 70's it disappeared as the speed of Aussie
Rules Footy picked up and thus the drop kick was no good on the run. Russell
Ebert the Champion AFL annd SANFL player and my coach at the SANFL Woodville Warriors could also do a rippa of a drop kick. I'm sure
tomorrow Moose will be writing tomorrow on here about Doug's feat as I know Doug Flutie is one of
Moose's favourite Footy players ever. For great USA and CDN Aussie Rules Footy

CFL-USA Update Part Two: Moose meets the
(outgoing?) Prime Minister
Grey Cup Sunday morning I awoke at about 8:10
a.m. to find Myk Aussie had shoved a pancake breakfast ticket under my door. $5
and at 9 a.m. I hustled to get dressed to go since I hadn’t had breakfast yet
and
noticed on the ticket, it read: “Pancake
breakfast with Prime Minister Paul Martin.” My buddy Ken Saroka,
Mr. Baltimore Stallions 10-year anniversary
watches, keeps up with Canadian politics better than me, but
I’ll get to that in a minute. I thought,
“Really – The Prime Minister of Canada. “ Not that I really expected
to see Paul Martin, let alone meet him. I walked
down Robson street to the spot on the corner where it was to be held and was a
bit early (I walk fast, but not as fast as Myk…).
I went in and the Vancouver
Fire Dept. were already flipping flapjacks and
got three, syrup, orange juice and coffee. I ate in several minutes and one of
the Liberal Party’s South Vancouver delegates noticed my Baltimore
Stallions’ jacket and started a conversation with me. We talked alternately
about American/Canadian politics and sports
and then John, his name was, asked me if I
wanted to meet Paul Martin! Holy
geez, yea, I thought. I
joked with John that I was going to present
Martin with the Baltimore Fan Club, Stable number One,
button I had on my Santa hat I was wearing.
Martin arrived about 10:25, flipped pancakes for the
Firemen and Police there, then started to move throughout the room with
security. I wasn’t able to get to him on the right side of the room, so I
moved to the left with John next to me. I went to Mr. Prime Minister with John
by my side and he looked at my jacket and cracked a big smile. I shook his hand
and said, ‘mister Prime Minister, I’m Rich Salzer, Baltimore Stallions fan
club and would like to make you an honorable member”, handing one of my cards
and the Stallions button that Joe Short gives out to everybody each year.
He patted me on the shoulder thanking me and I said, ‘Thanks to Canada for
that Grey Cup in ‘95”, and patted him on the shoulder. He said ‘Thanks”,
and signed my ticket! I want to say thanks to Prime Minister Paul Martin and Myk
Aussie.com for
their vision and Mr. Prime Minister’s hospitality. Does anybody out
there reading this really believe I could’ve – or would’ve been able to
shake hands with Bush - ? Nor would I want to make him an honourary member of
the Stallions fan club? Bushlip! When
I got done at the pancake breakfast, I walked back to Ken’s Hotel. He was in
his room watching the Parade replay from the day before and CBC had edited us
Americans out, like Jackie Jacobs had told me the day before. I told him about
my meeting with the Prime Minister, who at least now is an honorary member of
the best CFL fan club out there! Thanks again, Paul and Myk!' Moose

The
eighth annual Snow Bowl was held at Vancouver’s Stanley Park on Saturday, Nov.
26th @ 3 p.m. The Snow Bowl was started in 1998 in Winnipeg to
commemorate the passing and preserve the memory of the late, great Fred Tawney,
a great fan of the Baltimore Stallions, who passed away the previous year. Fred
fought honorably for his country, the United States of America in the Korean
“conflict”, (call it a war). This year the event was organized by
BC 49 from Lionbacker.
The
Snow Bowl is seven-on-seven Canadian outdoor football with all players eligible
to catch passes, including the Centre, after he snaps the ball. Canadian
Football rules apply and the game must be played
with
a Canadian football. The West has won four times and the East four, with
Saturday’s 12-0 win over the West. The event was filmed most of it by myself
and then Myk when he wasn't playing in Offence for the West
The game started slowly and Bill Haddox (Import; “Let’s Play some
Football”) was injured (knee) on the first Offencive play. Bill then
contributed very much to the East’s win by Coaching the Defence and Special
Teams. Bill is among very few players to have played in all the eight games
since 1998.
The
game was tied 0-0 at the half. The East, behind Marty, Argo jersey Mookie
Mitchell #87, who was seen on the big screen @ B.C. Place during the second
quarter of th 93rd Grey Cup and Ben. Each team’s
QBs,
West Grant and East’s Dano had great games. NightTrain (#62 Argo jersey) also
had a big impact
on
both Special Teams and Defence. Lionbacker13thMan had a great interception
as he played on West's defence.
Evan Wizzer from Vancouver, Myk Aussie Footy Burnaby Eagles player mate had a
huge interception on the one yard line, to stop the West’s biggest drive,
following Myk Aussie’s 30-yard reception. Myk finished with 2 of 4 catches for
45 yards. He also dived but narrowly missed what would have been a great catch.
Though we missed Terry Kazmer and his son from Green Bay, who usually officiate
the game (they didn’t make the trip) this time, the game was capably
officiated by BC49
and OrageShoes99.
This time, unfortunately, nobody from the Vancouver
Media
other than MYKwebTV/Total-CFLwebTV covered the game, despite my mentioning it on
Gabe Morency’s Sportsrage shows, twice on Saturday.
A
very good and close Defencive game, with Evan and Myk’s tough battle produced
many good memories and camaraderie, once again. Congratulations to all the
participants and all who showed up in attendance to watch our fine commemorative
game. Mahalo to all who took the time out of their Grey Cup weekend to make the
trip to beautiful Stanley Park. Myk promises to have a Total-CFLwebTV/MYKwebTV
show from this great game up by the weekend.
Congratulations

CFL
93rd Grey Cup Report: Was Calvillo’s ‘pass’ and ‘kick’
legal?!
The
Edmonton Eskimos won their 13th Grey Cup in club history (which
stretches back to 1910 as the “Esquimeaux”) and Montreal lost their fifth,
to go v. five career wins. The Alouettes history is 1946-
1987;1996-present. The ‘New Als’ are the old Baltimore Stallions, so really
the franchise is 6-6 in 11
Grey
Cups. It was definitely the most exciting Grey Cup in League history, unless one
argues that the
1989
Saskatchewan / Hamilton game. But us ex-Stallions note that the 1995 win in
Regina will always
be
our favorite. Now the $64 Q’s: What about Anthony’s Calvillo’s pass? It
was illegal for him to make the
second
throw, which Kerry Watkins dropped anyway. Now on to his desperation drop-kick,
left footed, as
it
was. He stepped on the line with his right foot, which nullified it. Had it been
caught (the CFL rule is:
they
wouldn’t have been able to advance the ball) it would have been well short of
the 31 yards needed for a first down!
Congratulations to Ricky Ray for Most Outstanding Player. Ray is now 2-1 in Grey
Cup
starts
and Calvillo is 1-3. Top Canadian was Edmonton FB Mike Maurer, who gained only
one yard on one
carry
and did drop one pass on second down in the second quarter, but did have 4
catches for 41 yards and four first downs in the Esks win. The US Pro Footy rule
for batted passes is: the catching Offencive
player
CAN ADVANCE THE ball. Not so in Canadian Football. As for drop kicks, both US
and Canadian
Football
have mostly similar rules; the player can catch a punt on third (CNDN) or US (4th
down) ball
but
the play ends their, unless touched by the opposing team.
CFL-USA
Report
Finally:
some recognition for the CFL-USA’r’s in the little publication, 24 hours, a
freebie here in boxes on the streets of Vancouver, page 20, top left, had this
to say: “STALLIONS LIVE ON” The Grey Cup is Canada’s biggest sporting
celebration, but there were some Americans joining in the fun. Joe Short was one
of a dozen Baltimore Stallions Fan Club members at the Party on the Pacific.
Back home in Maryland you can find him driving a car with the license plate “CFLFAN”.
I could tear that synopsis in five directions
by
damning us with faint praise is SOME recognition after all, eh? Daved Benefield,
who was in town, the
DE
from Saskatchewan, was with his wife and 12 week old son and did mention us on
T.V on a Vancouver station the other day and had several errors about us and the
CFL in his guest columns this
week but he did OK I guess. A good guy with a good site, himself. Thanks for the
plug, Dave.
At least Vancouver had
A REAL Parade. Last year in Ottawa, the great Rider fans, bless
their
souls (and soles!) had an impromptu parade of their own until the Ottawa gestapo
broke
‘Em up. A mention or two was made of our presence but I would bet Thomas
(Anti-
American) Wright had something to do with us being cut off the televised CBC
broadcast
of
us at the showing of the parade, according to Jackie Jacobs Of North Vancouver.
She
said
she’d make me a copy of the parade, so I’ll reserve judgment. More Next week
as
the
stomach turns (and the memory returns)." Moose

million people and five million bridges, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, my

so far: Meeting Jackie (Jake) Jacobs, daughter of the

the set up of the town for Grey Cup Week, with the kickoff today; Meeting the
great folks like ‘Honest Mur’, A. Murray, his

of course once again seeing Hugh Harrison, CTV, Sudbury, Ontraio and his wife,
rabid

the last couple mornings, tracing the whole Grey Cup Parade route out with my

On tap for today; The Grey Cup is making an

Moose “Folkes, I DID pick both the West Conference and East Conference winning
CFL teams correctly – my to mine and Myk Aussie’s surprise. Wow! When I woke
up this morning, @ 2:30 am back in Virginia to get ready for my 5 AM flight to
Atlanta, then on to Vancouver, to meet Myk and Jackie and all my US CFL mates
for a week of fun and frivolity @ my 13th Grey Cup, 3rd in
11 years here in Vancouver, where I am now, and I started out the morning by
turning on Sports Centre on ESPN back in ‘ole Virginia.
Much
to my surprise, ESPN’s Chris Berman said, “So Montreal will meet the
Edmonton Eskimos in the 93rd Grey Cup…” Say WHAT? Myk had
called me last Night from B.C. Place Stadium, to say he was @ the West Final.
Jackie Jacobs e-mailed me yesterday to say “Hi” and “Go Lions”. What a
surprise when Mr. Berman
said
the above this morning! Myk had told me last night, from his cell phone @ B.C.
Place that Montreal had INDEED beaten Grey Cup Champ Toronto (one of which I
predicted). When I boarded the plane in Atlanta for the 4;44 min. flight to
Vancouver, a couple told me the sad news that B.C. HAD INDEED lost the West
Final @ home.

Lines – East: Damon Allen, vet QB of Defending Champ Toronto was rushed into
submission by an aggressive Les Alouettes ‘D’, as I predicted on Gabriel
Morency’s Sportsrage last Thursday in the AM. The Don (Montreal Coach
Matthews) wasn’t gonna be out coached two years in a row, was my logic for
picking the Als. The Alouettes have been to four Grey Cups in the last six
seasons, to start the CFL’s second century of play.
In
the West Final, the storyline was waiting too long to go to last year’s CFL
Most Outstanding Player, Casey Printers, instead of letting Dave Dickenson,
who’s been to four Grey Cup before (2-2, but 0-2 as starter), and also been
Most Outstanding Player himself. Dickenson
has been hard pressed to duplicate
the men he’s been behind; Doug Flutie & Jeff Garcia.
Maybe it was those puke orange uniforms the Leos went to this year, or
maybe it was the 15 penalties that Wally Buono railed @ his team about.
Don Matthews doesn’t seem to have those problems, does he Wally? Wally, the
CFL’s second winningest Coach, will seemingly always be behind ‘The Don’.
This week, he gets to watch Matthews lead Montreal to the Als fourth Grey Cup in
six years. The two-QB system that
has worked so well for Edmonton
(hey, back when it was Tom Wilkinson / Warren Moon, it worked too!) with Maas /
Ray, who is in his third Grey Cup in three CFL seasons, not a bad record, but it
sucked for poor B.C. down the stretch in the most important game of their
season. How, may I ask can a team start 11-0 and end 1-8?! SB/TE Jason Clermont
said it best, “ When it came time to finish, the last 7 or 8 weeks, we
didn’t”. Don’t worry Dome-haters, Winnipeg is set for Grey Cup #94 and
Nature already has a ticket! Party on the Parries…” Moose

From
Moose "The first Weekend of CFL playoffs: Time to clean out the stable in
Saskatchewan. Yep - get rid of Roy Shivers, Danny Barrett and while
your at it bring a real QB like let´s say, Jason Maas? Just thinking out
loud...
Game Balls for the first week of the CFL Playoffs:
1)
Jason Maas, QB, Edmonton 2)
Anthony Calvillo, QB, Montreal 3)
Sean Fleming, K, Edmonton} 4)
Don Matthews, Coach, Montreal, who broke ´The Professor´ Frank Clair´s
alltime mark for most playoff wins in the CFL, with number 18 over
the under achieving Roughriders, yesterday. 5)
Travis Moore, WR, Saskatchewan
Pam Anderson was on Jimmy
Kimmel´s show
last week before I left for good óle Mexico on what will undoubtedly be
my last trip here. Twice in 19
months is more than enough donkeys, refried bean,
burritos and bullfights for this Canadian-American boy. Was channel
surfing one night and saw Pam
Anderson rapping with Jimmy
Kimmel, who was supposed to have Myk Aussie on his show two years
ago. He announced that she would be at the Grey Cup, and I THEN didn't
turn the channel off. He said, caustically, "Pretend football."
Pam corrected him, "The Super Bowl, if you will´, of the
Canadian Football League."
He
slammed the CFL and she said, "I was first ´discovered at a B.C.
Lions game." I have it on
VHS. Way to go Miss size 42 breasts! Defend that CFL game.
My
Picks for the Eastern and Western CFL Finals:
East Final: Montreal
OVER Toronto by 7
West Final:
Edmonton OVER
Britsh Columbia by 9." Moose

what Eskimos over Lions? And Al's over Argo's? I think you have a chance saying
Al's but I think it will be a Lions vs Argos Grey Cup for the 2nd year in a
row!

Lee Anderson Harrison was also recently
sighted out and about in Vancouver in during the Halloween 05 weekend in
readiness for her upcoming Grey Cup 05 appearances. Pammy was again not only
very popular with the guys but also the ladies. Wow! For Pammy

"East Preview: There
may not be many people left alive who can remember this but Montreal and
the Green Riders met once before in the Grey Cup/Playoffs - 1931. Of cause
it was (then) the Montreal
Winged Wheelers v. the Regina Roughriders, who were
in five straight Grey Cups, from 1928-32, losing all five of them. Montreal
won that Dec. day in 1931, 22-0,
behind historic Warren Stevens, who threw the
first Grey Cup major. TDs back then (up until 1950) were worth five points.
Stevens,
an ´´import´´, was Australian born and American bred. He threw also}
the first forward pass in CFL
history in 1929 {the NFL adopted the forward pass in
1926]. The Alouettes come into this years playoff hunt for the 93rd Grey
Cup with a 5-3 lifetime mark.
The (now, since 1947) Saskatchewan Roughriders are 2-16
lifetime in the Canadian Pro Football Championship.
This
Years/Weekend´s game: It comes down to Marcus Crandell v. Anthony Calvillo.
I´m taking Saskatchewan by one point, 25-24.
"Stevens, an ´´import´´,
was Australian born and American bred. Wow! That's awesome!" Myk
West
Conference: Historical
Perspective: Records: In 1990, Winnipeg´s great Trevor ´Hammer´ Kennerd
sliced a 47 yard FG attempt and Calgary´s Ron Hopkins took theMFR back for
128 yards and a major. But Winnipeg still won the Grey Cup that
year, Kennerd´s third Grey Cup win in four attempts. Way to go Trevor!
This
Year: Winnipeg is not in the playoffs and Calgary & Edmonton meet for
the fourth time this year.
I'm taking Ricky Ray and Edmonton over the Stamps let´s
say, by three, 28-25. I can´t take Hank Burris despite a very good year
over Ricky Ray and the Esks, who
will fall later in the playoffs/ or Grey Cup..." Moose

CFL week 19 report!" Myk Aussie
CFL
Update: Well...I wasn't perfect on my playoff picks this year, but I did
pick Saskatchewan to crossover
to the East semis.
Scores
from week 19 in the CFL (by now everybody has had their two two bye
weeks!):
Saskatchewan (last
bye of the CFL's 97th season)
Montreal 43, Ottawa 23
Toronto 34, Hamilton 11
Edmonton [Jason Maas didn't play a down. Colour him a-gone!) 22, B.C. 19
Calgary 46, Winnipeg 24 (Well Jim Daley, at least it's over. And I owe a
certain Calgary Cowboy a Canadian
Beer!)
CFL
Notes: I still don't believe in TO., even though they did have a better
season than I thought. Colour
them gone in Eastern Finals - either Saskatchewan or Montreal will punch their
lights out! Mark it down - whoever wins the
East Semis will romp over Pinball Clemons guys! In the West, with B.C. falling
apart (god only knows why?), it's wide open. I like Edmonton v. Saskatchewan
in the Grey Cup. Why? Defence, defence, defence. Plus two good Grey
Cup QBs - Marcus 'Mad Dog' Crandell v. Ricky (Should be starting for the
Jets) {Frito} Ray. Allen is too old, Calvillo is too beat up and Burris will
have to prove it to me. I said
to anybody with ears that work, and in this column
at the beginning of the season, June, that it'll be Edmonton v. Saskatchewan,
and until one or both of these teams lose, I a-stickin' with my picks (guns)"
