 Week
Nine Streaks, Records - League, Team and Individual Tampa's Tim Brown had
his 179 game catch streak stopped yesterday
in the Bucs win over playoff bound K.C. Don't count out
the surging Bucs. Looks like Jon & Jay Gruden have found a
QB in Brian Griese (now 3-0 since taking over from Chris (Lefty) Simms
and ancient Brad (London Monarchs) Johnson. Oakland stopped
it's club record Road Losing streak at 12 by upsetting Super
Bowl runner-up Carolina. Don't anybody blame Jake Delhomme, or for that
matter Kurt Warner for their team's losses yesterday.
Chicago Coach Lovell Smith knew all about Kurt from their
days together in Saint Louie. Virginia Beach's John Fox team has
been decimated with injuries but reliable Jake (cajan snake) Delhomme
[last yr. i used to put the nickname in Capitols...] keeps
rolling along with good performances. Dallas should have gotten
him last season when they had the chance. Arizona eviserated their own
Road Losing streak at 17 with a visit to "Rickyless Miami. Jay Feely
almost got the FISH the win late, though. The
Dave Wannstedt watch is on hot-n-heavy in Dolphinland. Sam
with Joe Paopao in Ottawa, where I'll be for the Grey Cup in
a couple weeks. Jerry Rice, bad ankle and all paid a last visit to
the Bay as the 'Hawks whipped Frisco. The Denny Erickson watch
starting to heat up too. Chirs Berman got up a bit too early
on ESPN for his top 10 picks; He called the University of Hawai'i
'Rainbow' Warriors, which will no doubt set Coach June Jones
over the edge. For the record folkes, the Kane (men's) Sports
teams at U. H. are 'Warriors', period. The Wahinies (females) are
'Rainbows'. There is not such thing as 'Rainbow Warriors'. Got it? Team
marks tied yesterday; Denver pivot Jake
Plummer tied Bronco 1981 QB Craig Morton's record with his
2nd consecutive game with 4 TD passes. Last week Jake also
threw for 499 yards, a club record. Ditto at the "Murph"
       [i.e. Quaalcom] in San
Diego where rapidly developing Drew Brees
had his 2nd consecutive 4 TD game, tying Dan Fouts, also
in '81. Big Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh set the new NFL
rookie winning mark with his 7th consecutive win. In '79 Pittsburgh's
Mike Krucek had six straight rookie start wins for a
QB and also in '79, future Super Bowl QB Phil Simms, Chris' daddy,
had 5 straight wins, to start his career. Phil Rivers sighting: 3
kneeldowns, miuns four yards. Doug Flutie firmly entreched at number 3 QB
       now. Gameballs
       for Week Nine:
 1) New England K/QB (!) Adam Vinatieri, one pass completed, 1 TD,
       4-4 XPs, 4-4 FGs.
 2) New England DB/WR Troy Brown, 3 catches, 1 TD, two tackles, tow
       pass breakups.
 3) New England LB/TE-FB Mike Vrabel, 1 catch, 1 TD, 5 tackles, 0.5
       sacks, two passes defended.
 4) San Diego QB Drew Brees, 2nd consecutive game 4 TD passes.
 5) Denver QB Jake Plummer, 2nd consecutive game 4 TD passes.
 Honorable
Mention: Carolina QB Jake (cajan snake) Delhomme 3 TDs,
no sacks, no fumbles, no INTs. in close loss at home to Da Raidahs,
       Arizona Emmitt Smith, now
only 16 yards from 18,000 Pro rushing yards, a
full 900+ ahead of CFL's Mike Pringle. Week

 Panthers
should finally win again over the Riders who are terrible. Bengals
over the Cowboys just but it could go either way this one. Lions over
Redskins. Fish over Cardinals. Why do we call the Dolphins the
Fish, isn't a dolphin a mammal? and that's all I go to say about that
game that will not be to exciting at all. Chiefs who are on fire
lately over the Buc's. Giants over Bears. Chargers on a
unusual Big roll over the Saints.
The West coast battle, Seahawks over 49ers. Broncos over
Texans but I'm a bit worried about this one. Lets hope the Bronco's can
win. Pats over Rams. Eagles just over the Steelers in the
game of the week. Ravens just over the "Shitta me Pants"
Browns. Jets over Bills easily. Colts over Vikings on
Mondee night as Randy Moss crazily didn't rest his hammy when he should

        AFC
       - CHARGERS QB DREW BREES, STEELERS LB JOEY PORTER & BILLS KR TERRENCE
MC GEE NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 8 Quarterback
DREW BREES of the San Diego Chargers, linebacker JOEY PORTER of the
Pittsburgh Steelers and kick returner TERRENCE MC GEE of the Buffalo
Bills are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the
Week for games played the eighth week of the 2004 season (October
31-November 1), the NFL announced today. OFFENSE:
QB DREW BREES, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS San
Diego’s Brees set a team record last Sunday by completing 88 percent of
his passes (22 of 25) and posted a career-high five touchdown passes
without an interception in a 42-14 win against Oakland. The fourth-year
quarterback opened the game by completing his first eight passes for 108
yards and a touchdown in compiling a 153.1 passer rating on the day. The
Austin, Texas native became the fourth Chargers quarterback to throw five
touchdown passes in a game and is the first to accomplish the feat since
DAN FOUTS (Dec. 26, 1982 at Baltimore). With the win, San Diego rises to
5-3 and shares the best record in the AFC West with Denver. From
Purdue, this is the first Player of the Week honor for Brees. DEFENSE:
       LB JOEY PORTER, PITTSBURGH STEELERS
 In the
Steelers’ 34-20 win against New England, snapping the previously
unbeaten Patriots’ historic 21-game winning streak, Porter registered
3.0 sacks, forced two fumbles, defensed a pair of passes, and had eight
tackles.  Both fumbles Porter forced were recovered by Pittsburgh
and resulted in Steelers touchdowns. The 6-3, 250-pounder from Colorado
State was part of a defense that limited New England to five total
rushing yards and recorded two interceptions.  The Steelers remain
atop the AFC North at 6-1 and host the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles
       (7-0) this week. This
marks the second time in as many games that a Steelers defender has
earned an AFC Player of the Week distinction (LB JAMES FARRIOR, Week 6).
Porter has now earned the award three times in his career.
 SPECIAL
TEAMS: KR TERRENCE MC GEE, BUFFALO BILLS McGee,
Buffalo’s second-year kick returner from Northwestern State
(Louisiana), promptly answered an Arizona touchdown with an 87-yard
kickoff return for a score to give the Bills a 17-7 lead which they would
not relinquish in a 38-14 victory. The 5-9, 201-pounder became only the
third player in Bills history with two kickoff returns for touchdowns in
a season (Week 4 vs. New Engand). McGee, who handles cornerback and kick
return duties, leads the AFC with a 28.0 average and is the only player
in the league with two kickoff returns for touchdowns. This
is McGee’s first career Player of the Week Award and the second special
teams honor earned by a Bills player (BRIAN MOORMAN, Week 6) in the past
       three weeks.
 NFC - FALCONS QB
MICHAEL VICK, BEARS LB BRIAN URLACHER & GIANTS WR DAVID TYREE NAMED
       NFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 8
 Quarterback
MICHAEL VICK of the Atlanta Falcons, linebacker BRIAN URLACHER of the
Chicago Bears and wide receiver DAVID TYREE of the New York Giants are
the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for
games played the eighth week of the 2004 season (October 31-November 1),
       the NFL announced today. OFFENSE:
QB MICHAEL VICK, ATLANTA FALCONS Vick
powered the Falcons to a 41-28 road-win against the Denver Broncos, as
       Atlanta overcame a 14-3 second-quarter deficit. Vick completed 18 of 24
attempts for 252 yards and two touchdowns, posting an impressive 136.1
passer rating – a Week 9 NFC high. Not to be outdone by his arm, Vick
was equally adept with his legs, rushing 12 times for 115 yards,
including a 44-yard run that helped set up a first-quarter field goal.
Vick notched his fourth-career 100-yard rushing game, tying the NFL
record for 100-yard rushing games by a quarterback, equaling the mark
held by BILLY KILMER. Vick directed an Atlanta offense that gained 467
yards and scored 41 points against a Broncos defense that entered the
game ranked second in the NFL. The Falcons’ 41 points are the most
scored by the visitors in Denver since the Raiders earned a 48-16 win on
       September 18, 1994. In
his fourth season from Virginia Tech, this is Vick’s third career
Player of the Week Award and second of 2004 (Week 2). DEFENSE:
LB BRIAN URLACHER, CHICAGO BEARS Urlacher
led a Bears defense that did not allow an offensive touchdown in a 23-13
win over the San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field. The linebacker posted
six tackles, a team-leading 2.0 sacks and one pass defensed, as the Bears
surrendered just 162 yards, the fewest Chicago has permitted an opponent
since allowing 160 in a 20-3 win over the Buffalo Bills on December 7,
1997. Urlacher recorded his first sack on a third-and-12 in the first
quarter, forcing a 49ers punt. His second sack came with San Francisco
driving and facing a second-and-nine at the Chicago 32, helping stall the
drive and force the visitors to settle for a field goal. In five games
this season, Urlacher has posted 4.0 sacks, tops among NFC linebackers.
       In his fifth season from
New Mexico, this is Urlacher’s fifth Player of the Week Award and
second of 2004 (Week 2). SPECIAL
TEAMS: WR DAVID TYREE, NEW YORK GIANTS Giants
special teamer Tyree helped set the tone on special teams for New York in
its convincing 34-13 road-win against the Minnesota Vikings. Tyree led
the team with three special teams tackles and downed a punt at the
Minnesota one-yard line. His efforts aided in limiting the Vikings to an
average of 3.0 yards per punt return (2 for 6 yards) and 17.0 yards per
kickoff return (7 for 119 yards). Seven of the Vikings’ 13 possessions
began inside the Minnesota 25-yard line. In
his second season from Syracuse, this is Tyree’s first Player of the
       Week Award. It
is so cool to be the only Aussie that has regularly reported on the NFL
for the past 5 years. Yep that's me, I have had NFL media passes at Super
Bowl's, Pro Bowl's and other NFL games. Thus I am allowed into the NFL
Media section and allowed to post their great reports on here. Much more
coming over the coming weeks." Myk Aussie

       04 "Moose's
as always HARDBall but informative NFL report!" Myk Aussie
        Midseason
Report cards for all NFL teams are in. Arizona, do not pass go, do not
collect $200, proceed directly to jail for flagging for excessive
boredom! Poor Emmitt Smith. Even if he goes through with his
threat to go into the Hall-of-Fame as a Cardinal (Yeech!), what a dismal
way to end your career. Salary-Cap days in this League suck. If there is
anybody out there that still thinks the 'They would be Giants' aren't for
real and aren't going to the playoffs, I have a 'Great Bridge' here in
Chesapeake, VA to sell you. I  still
think the Giants v. the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in Jaxonville, in three
       months.

        Dave
Krieg's record in jeopardy; the former best QB ever of the Seahawks has
had more '5 TD' passing game than any QB in history ; 8. Marino had 7.
John Elway 6. Peyton Manning now has 4, Duante Culpepper, 3. But somebody
forgot to tell Manning and Culpepper THEY HAVE TO WIN THE games they
throw 5 TDs in. Anyway, never let it be said that Manning can't pull
defeat from the jaws of victory! Records: Brett Favre doing it still
despite passing for three picks v. lousy Washington. But the Pack soldier

        on.
He is dedicating the rest of the season to injured buddy Doug Pederson.
He is still first all-time with most consecutive games starting at QB.
Also, poor Phil Simms. The two-time Super Bowl winning QB with the Jersey
Nuclear Swamp Giants lost his NFL record of most consecutive starts as a
rookie NFL QB when Ben Roelithsberger beat New England and Tom Brady
breaking their two records (most consecutive NFL wins by team &
starting QB). Roe's now 6-0 as rookie starter for Pittsburgh, who plays
Philly in the battle of PA this weekend. The Steelers Offencive
play-calling was superb this weekend. And they have found a use for that
broken down old 'Bus' that should have been put up on blocks a long time
ago. Bettis now up to whopping 2.5 yards

        per
carry. Duce Staley to play his old team this weekend. I'm predicting a
Pittsburgh upset, which would actually be a mild upset. But the team I
still say will eake through in the AFC this year for the Super Bowl, is
       Kansas  City. That Offencive
show they put on yesterday, v., I admit is an average Indy defence, was
excellent. Even without ex-CFL great WR Marcus Boerigter they are still
lighting it up. 101 points in the last two games. The longest pass play
for a TD last season for the Steelers was an 80-yd'r from 'ole 'Thunderarm'
Josh Miller, their holder/punter par excellance, now with the Patriots,
the ex-CFL Baltimore Stallion. Man do I hate to see Mike Gazstation
Raidahs get hammered the way they have been. But Al Davis has really
screwed up in trying to recycle Norv Turner and Warren (whata) Sapp at
DLm. These two are meant for each other! Other surprises in the AFC West
include the incredible meltdown of the Broncos the last two weeks and the
rise of the San Diego Chargers. I guess I have to admit Marty-ball might
just make it after all out in Bolt City. But I'm still picking

        the Chiefs because
Dick Vermeil HAS NEVER NOT TAKEN whatever NFL he

        team he Coaches to
       the Super Bowl.

        Game

        1) Atlanta QB Mike
Vick, (2) N.Y. Giants (tied) TE Jermey Shockey, QB Kurt (Mad Dog/Arenaball)
Warner, the Giants Offencive Line - fifth game in seven for Warner with
no fumbles, INTs or sacks, and of course RB Tiki Barber, as a group,(3)
Denver WR Rod Smith, (4) K.C. as an Offencive Unit, one ball & (5) Tennessee
P/H/QB - that's right, situational QB Craig Hentrich,

        that
Jeff Fisher knows his personnel better than any Coach in the League.
Hentrich was a backup QB in college and a good one in High School.
Honorable mention, Pittsburgh QB Ben Roelithsberger and Pro Bowl OL Alan
       Faneca.
