Talking AFL and CDN and USA Aussie Rules Footy to a massive USA and CDN audience Friday night on Sports Rage with Gabriel Morency now on Sirius Hardcore Satellite Radio! Listen now!

Wow! This really excites me. For the past 5 years on Friday nights I have been talking Sports, Comedy on Gabriel Morency's Sports Rage late night radio show. I believe Gabriel is the best Sports radio guy in the World. In January this year he moved from The Team 990 AM Montreal and Internet radio to Sirius radio. This was a great promotion for Gabriel. I talk some CDN and USA Aussie Rules Footy on his show when I get the chance. Over the past few Friday nights and especially last night after I talk what is hot in North American Sports Gabriel has then been asking me for my weekly AFL picks and comments which I think is fantastic. The reason that he now does this is that he has callers from the USA ask him about the AFL games. The Word about the greatest game in the World is spreading! Here are the details to his great Hardcore radio show along with my call on Friday June 22, bottom right hand corner. After today this should be in the Podcasts section under Sports Rage Click here

The Calgary Bears defeat the Calgary Kangaroos.
In the 2nd game of the year between the two Calgary based teams the Bears won convincingly by approximately 30 points. After Marlborough Park which is a full size Aussie Rules Footy playing field was flooded a week ago and could not be mowed we had to again revert to the Rugby fields on Sheppard Rd in the South East of Calgary. The Bears with the aid of the breeze got off to a great start in the 1st quarter. The Roo's had a reasonable 2nd quarter but were still trailing at 1/2 time. We the Roo's tightened up on the Bears dominant mid fielders in the 3rd quarter and we were confident of winning the game going into the 4th quarter with the aid of a 3-4 goal breeze. It wasn't to be as the Bears outplayed us in the 4th quarter to run out convincing winners. It was thus former Western Bulldog Brad Copeland's 1st victory as a Head Coach. The series is now tied up 1-1.

The Vancouver Cougars 18.26 = 134 hammer the Burnaby Eagles4.2 = 26.
Wow! That is a huge result for the Cougars in game 3 of the 07 season. The Eagles won the 1st 2 games of the year. For more on this game check out the Cougars site at BC Footy.com Click here

.

What a great day of Aussie Rules Footy it was in Kelowna, British Columbia. It was the 2nd Kelowna Cup which was started and organized by AB Footy President Gareth Williams. The Kelowna Cup is unique in that the Canadian and non Australians play against each other and then the Australians play each other. The Alberta Canadians won the main game of the day and thus the Kelowna Cup defeating the BC Canadians. Four Canadian teams competed. From Alberta it was the Calgary Canadians and the Red Deer MagpiesCanadians while from BC it was the Vancouver Canadians and the Vancouver Harps. The Harps led by Legend Ronan was the Gaelic Footy guys.

For the main game the best players from the Red Deer Magpies which included the Kidd brothers played for Calgary while the best Harps guys played for Vancouver thus Alberta CDN's vs BC CDN's fought it out for the Kelowna Cup. It was a great game with Alberta winning.

The all Aussie games. In 06 the Calgary Kangaroo's were dominant over the BC Footy guys but that was definitely not the case on Saturday. The Calgary Aussies were defeated by the Vancouver Cougars by several goals and then we were hammered by the Burnaby Eagles. The Burnaby Eagles also defeated the Vancouver Cougars. There were many new excellent Aussies playing for the Vancouver teams. There is no doubt we missed our Champ Brad Flower and BC have a advantage at this time of the year as they have been training for many more weeks than us due to the Crazy Calgary weather. This said I believe the BC Footy guys need to be congratulated on their wins especially as they also fielded two teams and we fielded just the one team. We need to get more serious if we are to retain the 07 Stampede Cup and the 07 BC Footy Cup against the BC guys.

Mark Block Canada's national team head coach was there and he was impressed. Mark who is from Toronto is a former Northwind Canadian player. He told me he was very impressed with the City of Kelowna and the great day of Aussie Footy. I interviewed Mark for MYKwebTV and we discussed likely players from both Alberta and BC that could make the Northwind team. What a great job Ken Freeman did umpiring many of the games. Ken umpires in Victoria. I also interviewed Ken for CDN Aussie Rules Footy MYKwebTV.

BL&GFA South Aussie Footy, South Gawler Football Club A Grade defeat the Gawler Central Tigers and retain the Tony Symes Cup. The Lions win the Legends game by 3 points. Part of this weeks In the Lions Den from President Percey!

Last week end proved that football in Gawler is very healthy when South Gawler hosted traditional rivals Gawler Centrals in what was truly a ‘local’ blockbuster. The large crowd enjoyed fair and willing football across all grades in an atmosphere that was almost finals like. Thanks to all concerned including the clubs workers and volunteers but not least the supporters of both clubs. Best of all the Exchange Lions recorded six wins out of seven against the old enemy.

The Modified and Little League teams enjoyed their victories as the two clubs played off in these grades for the first time. The Under 15s had a hard working, ‘come from behind’ win whilst the Under 17s recorded a huge win given the wet ground and the un-availability of players due to senior and Central Districts commitments. Our senior squad has a large amount of injuries which was reflected in the Reserves who had the clubs only loss for the day despite battling hard. Congratulations to a true club man in Shaun Fulton who played his 100th senior game in typical gritty fashion. The A grade lead all day and retained the ‘Tom Symes’ Cup for the third time in a row for the first time – well done. Congratulations to Michael Dimmuccio on his A grade debut where he acquitted himself well. It’s a healthy sign to see our juniors starting to emerge in the seniors. It was also great to see Dean Fraser at the ground and obviously well on the road to recovery.

In their own minds the highlight of the day was the Legends match which went for too long at half time of the A grade and was played in a fun atmosphere and enjoyed by players and spectators alike. Thanks to Tony Lamont of Dynamax Signs who made and donated a fine trophy that will reside proudly in the Den for at least the next 12 months (the same time it will take for the players to recover!)

This weeks Kingsford Hotel ‘Club Person of the Week’  is Darren Bloffwitch who played his last game for the club last weekend. ‘Bloffy’ has been a long term servant of the club who has a fine playing career. All Lions looking for some great South Gawler camaraderie are invited to meet at our major sponsor ‘The Exchange’ from 6.30pm this and every Friday. Enjoy the week off, good luck to all our players in the BLGFA Association squads and look forward to Barossa at Williamstown next week - ‘Go the Lions!" President Percey

From Thurs, May 30. The Calgary Kangaroos, Bears and Kookaburra Aussie Rules Footy guys and Cwoc's/Aussie Birds play in the Gaelic Tournament!
What a great day it was here in Calgary on Saturday as we played in the Gaelic Tournament. The Calgary Kangaroos team was made up of the Aussies from the Roo's and Bears while the Calgary Bears team was the Canadians and other non Aussies from the Roo's and Bears. We did this to prepare for this weekends Kelowna Cup. The Cwoc's and Aussie Birds making up the new in 07 Calgary Kookaburra's played against the Irish girls. They recorded a win which was great.

The Calgary Chieftains men's team were too good on the day while the new Red Deer team were also good. There were several fights on the day but as Aussie's and Irish do, we were all having a few beers together afterwards.

BL&GFA South Aussie Footy, South Gawler Football Club
. A Grade get their 1st win. Part of this weeks In the Lions Den from President Percey
Congratulations to South Gawlers A grade on recording their first hard fought win last weekend against a determined Nuriootpa team. The win was a morale boost for the club and hopefully the first of many more this season. Well done to 17 year old Nick O’Reilly who had a fine game suggesting much potential for the future.

However the gloss was taken off the win by serious injuries to Souths Dean Fraser and Nuriootpas Craig Burgess in the last minutes of the game. In a freak accident, where both players had only eyes for the ball in a brave contest, their heads clashed heavily resulting in injuries that will side line both players for a number of weeks. South Gawler wish both Dean and Craig speedy and full recoveries.

The Modified team was the only other South winner when they recorded a big victory – well done to the tiny Lions. The Little League battled hard but were over run. The Under 15s had their first loss in over a season in what should be reality check for them. The Reserves were outclassed by the best Reserves team seen this year but the seven debutants in our team showed plenty of potential and competitiveness

This Saturday is the ‘Tom Symes’ Cup against arch rivals Gawler Centrals – can we win it three times in a row for the first time? It is also the ‘Presidents Luncheon’ for sponsors and guests including David Fawcett MP, Tony Piccolo MP and the Brian Sambell, Mayor of Gawler. Half time will feature a ‘legends’ game as the stars of yesterday squeeze themselves into those old shorts and guernsies and spend the rest of the year recovering! All team members are required to attend compulsory training this Thursday where they need to report to coach Wilbur Rolton (at the bar). See you at the Den on Saturday at the local ‘Block Buster’ between two traditional arch rivals in over 100 years of competition and ‘Go the Lions !’" President Pervey
