NFL
News: Condolences to the Family of the late, great Henry G. Stram, The
alltime winningest Coach in American Football League History [1960-69]
By; Rich Salzer (also reporting, Scott Thomas Baxter)
Former two-time Super Bowl Kansas City Chiefs Coach, Hank Stram
died
over the Fourth of July weekend at the age of 82. Stram won 81
games,
lost 50 and tied 3, and was the American Football League’s
Alltime
winninest Coach. Stram’s combined NFL-AFL record in Pro
Football
was: 136-100-10. Stram also Coached the New Orlean Saints.
His
Pro Football Coaching career
spanned from 1960-77. Stram is a
member
of both the NFL Pro Football Hall-of-Fame in Canton, Ohio
and
the Polish-American Sports Hall-of Fame in Detroit, Michigan,
home
of the Fortieth Super Bowl, next Feb. 6th, 2006.
From:
Scott, “Stram is best remembered for his mixed NFL Films
appearances
during the Fourth Super Bowl, the only Chief’s Super
Bowl
victory to date: “Just keep matriculating the ball downfield,
Boys”,
and “65 Toss power trap. 65 Toss power trap might just bust
Wide
open, Rach…”)
Stram’s
philosophy is summed up in the following statement last
Year
on his 81st birthday: “I’ve had a charmed life; I married
the only
Girl
I ever loved, and was able to do a job a truly loved (coaching the
Chiefs)…”
Stram was at the Pro Bowl in 2003, with the other Hall-of-
Fame
inductees, as MykAussie and I filmed the cheerleaders that day.
A
great NFL-AFL pioneer and throwback to another ERA in Pro Football
when
players like Larry Csonka played for the love of the game. So long,
Hank
and god bless you. You were a gentleman and one of a kind! – R.A.S
& S.T.B." Moose

June 16 05 "NFL Europe National players earn places on NFL practice
squads for 2005 season!" Myk Aussie
From
NFL Europe Media.
THE
NFL Europe League’s national players have an opportunity to make an
increased impact in the NFL following the announcement that eight have
won practice squad places at NFL teams for the upcoming 2005 season.
Last
season, four national players were placed with teams in the NFC West
division in the inaugural year of the NFL International Development
Practice Squad program. For 2005, teams in the NFC South and AFC West
divisions will each carry a national player on their practice squad
roster for the duration of the campaign.
The
players selected for the program are: PETER
HEYER (G, Germany –
Kansas City Chiefs); RICHARD
YANCY (S, Germany – San Diego Chargers); KLAUS
ALINEN (TE, Finland – Atlanta Falcons); MICHAEL
QUARSHIE (DT, Finland – Oakland Raiders); ANDERS
AKERSTROM (DE, Norway – New Orleans Saints); CLAUDIUS OSEI (S, Germany – Tampa Bay Buccaneers);
PATRICE MAJONDO-MWAMBA (DT,
Belgium – Denver Broncos); ADEN DURDE (LB, United Kingdom – Carolina Panthers).
NFLEL
Director of Football Operations MIKE
CHAN said: “The quality of our national players continues to
increase every year. This can be seen by the contributions they are
making on the field in Europe and the fact that we been able to identify
eight players for the second year of this program.
“The
players who returned to NFL Europe after spending last year in this
program have demonstrated how beneficial it has been to their
development. They get the chance to experience the speed of the NFL, to
develop their skills and to face physical and mental challenges in an
NFL environment.”
Two
of the four players who were in the program last year, Mexican offensive
lineman ROLANDO CANTU, who was with the Arizona Cardinals, and German
defensive end CHRISTIAN MOHR,
who went to the Seattle Seahawks, have already been signed by those
teams, so will not be part of the program. Mohr returned to the Berlin
Thunder to rank second on the team with four sacks, helping his team to
a place in Yello Strom World Bowl XIII in Düsseldorf on Saturday
The
other two players on last year’s program are back for a second year –
Yancy, who was with the San Francisco 49ers, and Heyer, who was at the St
Louis Rams.
TONY
ALLEN,
the NFLEL’s Director of International Football and Player Development,
said: “I am proud, delighted and very excited that, in only the second
year of this program, we are able to send eight players to NFL teams. We
are confident that this group of players will more than match up to the
achievements of last year’s group and that their experience will drive
our international player programs to a higher level.”
Details
of the eight players selected for the program this year are:
Peter
Heyer, G, Rhein Fire (Germany) – Kansas City Chiefs
Started every game at the right guard position for the Rhein Fire in
2005, helping Joe Smith become the third back in NFLEL history to rush
for 1,000 yards in a season. Spent the entire 2004 NFL season on the
practice squad of the St. Louis Rams.
Richard
Yancy, S, Rhein Fire (Germany) – San Diego Chargers

tackles to rank fourth on Rhein’s defense.
Klaus

XIII. Caught 8 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown in his second NFLEL
season, finding the end zone for the first time
in Week 10. Also handled
long-snapping duties for Berlin.
Michael
Quarshie, DT, Frankfurt Galaxy (Finland) – Oakland Raiders
Joined the Galaxy in Week 5 and made an
immediate impact on the club’s defensive line, recording 11 tackles and
1 sack. He began his American adventure at St. Peter’s College in
Jersey City, New Jersey, before transferring to Columbia. He was named
team captain prior to
his senior season and recorded 59 tackles –
including an Ivy League-leading 16 for a loss – 1.5 sacks and a forced
fumble, earning All-Ivy League honors.
Anders
Akerstrom, DE, Frankfurt Galaxy (Norway) – New Orleans Saints

each passing season and became a valued member of the school’s football
team at the defensive end position.
Claudius
Osei, S, Hamburg Sea Devils (Germany) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Joined the Sea Devils ahead of Week 5 and saw action on defense and on
special teams, starting one game in the defensive secondary against

The
eight players will be on their team’s practice squad roster for the

Wed,
April 27 05 "Moose's NFL HARDBall Draft report!" Myk Aussie
NFL
Draft Analysis:
Arizona (NFC) Rating: A. Main Player/players taken: J.J. Arrington, RB,
California. With Emmitt
Smith's (forced) retirement, they need him. He was
my all-american RB 1st team choice last year ('04) yr.
Atlanta
(NFC): B-. Top pick: 2nd rounder, Jonathan Babineaux, DLm, Iowa. Will
start.
Baltimore
(AFC): B. Derek Anderson is an underrated QB who will make the team.
He'll enjoy playing under Brian Billick and new QB Coach Rick Neuheisel
[the ex-USFL and NFL replacement QB and former NCAA H.Coach].
Buffalo
(AFC): C-. Roscoe Parrish, WR, may start. Not too many picks for
Bills will put them in a bind in the AFC East. Only Miami will finish
lower.
Carolina
(NFC): B+. Underrated Stefan LeFlors, QB, broke most of Arena star
QB / Coach Jay Gruden's records he made under former Coach Howard
Schnellenberger. He will
battle number two QB, Chris Weinke for Jake Del- homme's
back-up spot.
Chicago
(NFC): B. Cedric Benson, RB, Texas.
Cincinnati
(AFC): A-. Dave Pollack, LB, Georgia.
Cleveland (AFC): B. Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan.
Dallas
(NFC): A-. DeMarcus Ware, DE, Troy St. [The late Al Lucas school}
Denver
(AFC): B+. There's a reason why these guys are the smartest team in
Pro Football. They may not have many picks this year, but they did well.
A trip to the Super Bowl?
Maybe - if they get by William Hughes Chiefs!
Detroit
(NFC): A-. Mike Williams, WR, USC.
Green
Bay (NFC): A-. Aaron Rodgers, QB, California. No Carson Palmer (so
far...) here. Let's do the math; Brett Favre and homebuddy Douglas
Pederson came out of
college in '91 - they want one more year. The top pick
was Rodgers...Does that leave any room for T.J. O'Sullivan or (supposed
QB of the future) Craig (Scotland Claymore) Nall? Didn't think so...
Houston
(AFC): C. Travis Johnson, DT, Florida. A solid first-round pick.
Indianapolis (AFC): A. Congratulations Peyton, Tony and Co. You guys
get the cigar. The Best
Draft selections among the 32 NFL teams. Butyou still won't win the
Super Bowl! No wonder Manning likes Marino so much!
Jacksonville (AFC): B. Chad Owens, KR/WR/SB/PR, Hawai'i Warriors.
Why didn't somebody
draft QB Timmy Chang? Why do we NEVER see teams draft
the QB and WR of some real good NCAA team?! Or even, in the Great
White North, SOME real
good CIS [CIAU] team, etiher. Maddening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kansas
City (AFC): A-. Chiefs braintrust of Carl Peterson and wily Dick Vermeil
stole the best pick in the draft, in my (and Bill Hughes) opinion, LB,
Derrick Johnson. But keep an eye on James Killian, QB from Tulsa. He
will push very hard for Todd Collins, who is solid, 's NUMBER 2 QB job.
Don't bet against this
kid. But Collins will finish his career with the Chiefs.
Miami
(AFC): D-. Saban is a joke - and so is this draft selection!
Minnesota
(NFC): B-. WR, Troy Williamson. Who needs Randy (Moon) Moss?
New
England (AFC): C. QB Matt Cassel, QB Southern Cal. He'll be ready by
'07.
New
Orlean (NFC): QB Adrian McPherson, who prepped as Rookie of the Year
in Ar.FL last season.
Anybody is better than Aaron Brooks, even if he is Mike Vick's
second cousin! But don't count out Todd Bouman yet!
New
York Giants (NFC): F. Let's see; they have the worst QB on planet earth
in Eli Manning and they
have only four draft picks (none any good)...Well, at least
Washington
is in their Conference / Division...
New York Jets (AFC): C+. Sione Pohua, DLm, Utah. Hey!, A Ute! Mahalo,
Herm Edwards! A good move
for this kanaka!
Oakland
(AFC): C+. Nobody really stands out - yet, but Andrew Walter, QB
could spell the end for
patient Marques (and injury-prone) Tuiasosopo.
Rest
are bad drafts including Washington, F-. What is Joe Gibbs thinking?"
