New Orlean 27, Kansas City 20,
New England 29, Buffalo 6,
Green Bay 34, Minnesota 31 (gotta give the 'Vikes credit here; I figured
Brett would
throw 4 TDs on 'em, but they hung in there. Culpepper is not a bad QB
after all)
Week
10 Game Balls: 1) QB
- Brett Favre, Green Bay, (2) QB - Peyton Manning, (3) PR / KR - Eddie
Drummond, Detroit Lions,
(4) WR / Showoff - Joe (Mad Dogs) Horn, New Or- leans,
(5) Duncan O'Mahoney, B.C. Lions [Yea, I know; he plays up North in
the CFL.
So what. It's my column and my e-Newsletter - I can do what I want
here, besides
beating Grey Cup bound Saskatchewan in the Western Finals was a good
accomplishment - and like
Lawrence Tynes, expect him to being in the NFL next
season.
NFL
Report - Week 10 NFL League, Team and player records first. Yesterday
there were many records broken or tied in the second best
outdoor Football League on planet earth and the biggest; Brett
Favre, dedicating his season to fallen comrade Doug Pederson, his backup,
has extended his most consecutive starts streak
for a Pro QB to 198. Eddie Drummond, a return specialist for
the Detroit Lions, who beat out ex-CFL/Af2'r Reggie Swinton for
the job earlier this year (Swinton is still on the team as a reserve WR
though), had two punt returns for TDs IN ONE QTR for
the U.S. Lions, who's Canadian counterparts play for the 92nd Grey
Cup Championship in Ottawa, where I'll be this weekend.
Also,
Pittsburgh's California Polynesian, Troy Polamalu had two INTs
in a quarter of play v. ice-cold Red Garcia, who was benched yesterday
in favor of Scott Baxter's man, Kelly (Barcelona) Holcomb. Pittsburgh's
Big Ben Roethlisberger extended his consecutive wins streak
for a 'rookie' QB to 8. The Chicago Bears became the 2nd team
in NFL history to win an O.T. game by a safety. The first was Minnesota
back in 1989, when Da Bears beat the now cold Tennesee Titans, despite
the fine game by reserve Billy Volek, with Air McNair
still grounded for the Tits. Emmitt Smith, needing 16 yards for
18,000 on his career, had 67 and 2 TDs in the Cardinals shocker over
the New York Football Giants. Kurt Warner, though, did have a
very strong game for the G-men. The Question: Is Peyton Manning on
pace to break the Outdoor Pro Football record of TD passes in a
single season, jointly held by the CFL's Doug Flutie and NFL's Dapper
Dan Marino (48) Will he,
probably not.
He
may catch Kurt Warner's 2nd place, NFL 41. Flutie also threw 47 in
another CFL season, Khari Jones 46 three years ago and Dave Archer
42. In the Arena League, 48
is almost half a seasons work [Aaron Garcia has
112 in 14.5 games one Ar.FL season]. I predict Manning will get 40
with about 25 INTs! He
threw two dumb ones again yesterday, but the Colts
still beat expansion-like Houston. The Chiefs and Bucs, who I predicted
to be in the playoffs at the beginning of the year are almost down
to their last bullets! They are both a paltry 3-6. But a surging 3-7
Carolina team may still come from nowhere to get the last NFL playoff
spot. Jake Delhomme continues to impress with another 3 TD job
yesterday in a 10 point win over salary cap depleted 'Frisco team that
has played with a lot of fire this season and may have found them-
selves a good young QB in
Tim Rattay, who probably would have beaten out
Garcia, if Red had stayed with the Eighter's this yr. I predict Red is
going to the bench at
Dogpundville next week. Kelly Holcomb looked rusty
but did throw a beautiful TD in the early fourth yesterday. Maybe at 34,
after playing 5 rugged 19 week-18 game schedules
in the CFL and getting beaten up in San Fran., he's just wearing out?
Hang in there, kid! The Defencive Lines of the Bears are really picking
up the slack and Craig Krenzel, Molecular Biology degree and all are
now 3-0 for Da Bears> Boo-ya! He'll hit the proverbial brick wall
soon.
It
isn't any surprise that the Offencive Lines in New England, Jacksonville,
Atlanta & Seattle are
playing well. They all have ex- University of Hawai'i players
on them! Adrian Klemm, Vicne Manuwai, Kynan Forney and Wayne Hunter
all used to block for June Jones teams. And Timmy Chang could use
them now! [Derek Fa'avi, indeed!] If the Jets didn't get it through
their heads yesterday, they
better soon. At least Ricky Ray, Grey Cup magnet
for Edmonton the last few years, is on the active roster now. But
Quincy (Substance) Carter and his lover, Offencive Coordinator (now
there's an odd couple!) Paul Hackett are made for each other. No,
Hackett's not the worst Off. Coordinator in the loop yet; that 'honour'
still goes to meatheaded Terry Robiskie, Mr. no-imagination of
Cleveland. But having your FB throw that option pass showed Hackett
really doesn't know what he's doing! That and having a stud like
double 'R' as number three (or 4) QB is the pits. Dallas new what they
doing when they got rid of Carter, Hutchinson in the offseason!
They
are better off with Drew, Vinny and Tony Romo [I thought that was
a rib joint?}, who may see action before the season is over. Memo to
Dennis Erickson, Joe Gibbs and even Coach Parcells - please do the
right thing and leave
quietly, like your colleague Dave Wannstedt did recently.
You three are not Tom Coughlin. Tom may be a not nice guy (I'm
being kind here) but at least his head is still in the game. Gibbs,
with Diabetes, has health
problems, which he didn't bother to tell 'Coach'
Dan Snyder about, and his head is not in the game; Coach Parcells
- you had Vinny and Keyshawn back in '98 & '99 with the Jersey
Jets - that was alllonnngggg time ago in NFL years - or even dog
years. Pls. step down. Erickson is really trying and maybe that last
D.W.I charge straightened him out (are you reading this Jeffrey 'Red'
Garcia?). San Francisco is four good players away from a .500 club.
But Washington and Dull-ass are horrendous. Actually, their not that
good. Just remember you heard it from me 1st" Moose

NFL week 10 tips! Second
Former Arena Player, Asst. Coach named NFL Head Coach!
"
I'll
be in attendance tomorrow at Pammy's BC Place for the Big CFL Western
Final but I'll definitely be keen to hear the NFL scores. Week 10 here
goes lets hope I can improve on the last two weeks tipping.
RRRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR
the Lions in the CFL and in the NFL as they should defeat the Jags
especially seeing Byron Leftwich the Jags QB is out. Chiefs over
the Saints. Ravens over the Jets because Jets Star QB Chad
Pennington is out. I should never wish injury on anyone but I do hope CFL
Eskimos Champ QB Ricky Ray who will now be the 3rd QB for the Jets
tomorrow gets to play. NFLers Ricky is a star, a very very accurate and
long passer. Tits over the Bears. Redskins over the Bengals
just but who knows with this game.
Giants
over the Cardinals. Giants QB Kurt Warner a chance to be jumped at QB? I
doubt it, media stories I think. Packers over the Vikings only
because Vikings Star WR Randy Moss is out with a hammy. Randy was very
very silly trying to play with a hammy injury 2 and 3 weeks ago. Panthers
over 49ers. The Panthers who made the Super Bowl last year have some
big name player injuries but surely they can beat the 49ers. Could go
either way. Steelers who are on Fire over the "Shitta me
Pants" Browns. Colts over the Texans. Pats
over Bills. Rams over Seahawks, that's weird they only played a
few weeks ago. Falcons over the Bucs. It is great to see former
Bronco QB Brian Griese doing well as the starting QB for the Bucs. Monday
night the Eagles over the Cowboys who are a bit soft this
year." Myk Aussie
From
Moose "Second
Former Arena Player / Asst. Coach named NFL H.Coach!" Jim Bates,
a former Arena League played (New England '88) & Ast. Coach has been
named the second former Arena League player to make it up to the Coach
position in the NFL. Bates was a longtime Ast. Coach in the Ar.FL when he
was hired by Jimmy Johnson in 1996 to round out Johnson's staff with the
Miami Dolphins. Bates was Defencive Coordinator and Line Coach for the
Miami Hooters in the Arena League, and now replaces Dave Wannstedt as
Dolphins fifth Coach in team history, after Wannstedt's resignation.
Bates has been Defencive Coordinator of the DOlphins the last two
seasons. The was one of the FISH best areas. Bates may get a contract
extentsion if he can get Miami four or five wins in the remaining games.
Good luck, Jim. The first former Arena League player to work his way up
to an NFL H. Coach spot was former Lions Coach Marty Mornhingweg (5-27 in
two seasons). Mornhingweg was a former ArenaBowl I QB. The other former
ArenaBowl I QB, Sean Payton, is the Dallas Cowboys Offencive
Coordinator." Moose

AFC
- STEELERS RB JEROME BETTIS, RAVENS S ED REED &
PATRIOTS K ADAM VINATIERI NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 9
Running
back JEROME BETTIS of the Pittsburgh Steelers, safety ED REED of the
Baltimore Ravens and kicker ADAM VINATIERI of the New England Patriots
are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week
for games played the ninth week of the 2004 season (November 7-8), the
NFL announced today.
OFFENSE:
RB JEROME BETTIS, PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Pittsburgh’s
Bettis was a force Sunday in helping the Steelers hand Philadelphia their
first loss of the season in a 27-3 victory at Heinz Field. Thanks
in large part to Bettis’ 149 rushing yards on 33 carries (4.5 average),
the Steelers implemented a dominant ball control game plan.
Pittsburgh possessed the ball for 41:49, compared to the Eagles’ 18:11
as 11 of Bettis’ first 24 carries went for five or more yards.
The Detroit native’s rushing total of 149 yards accounts for his most
in 41 games when he ran for 163 against Cleveland on November 11, 2001.
With the victory, the AFC North-leading Steelers (7-1) become the first
team in NFL history to defeat a pair of undefeated teams in consecutive
weeks with records of 6-0 (New England) or better (Philadelphia, 7-0).
In
his 12th season from Notre Dame, this is the 5-11, 255-pound Bettis’
third-career Player of the Week Award. Bettis follows quarterback BEN
ROETHLISBERGER (Week 6) as the second Pittsburgh player to be named the
AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week this season.
DEFENSE:
S ED REED, BALTIMORE RAVENS
Reed,
Baltimore’s All-Star safety, sealed a 27-13 win against Cleveland by
thwarting a late Browns drive with an NFL-record 106-yard interception
return for a touchdown with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
Reed’s game-saving interception return surpassed the former record of
103 yards, shared by San Diego’s VENCIE GLENN (1987) and LOUIS OLIVER
(1992) of Miami. The 5-11, 200-pounder was a key cog in a Ravens
defense that limited the Browns to 217 total net yards. Reed chalked-up
five tackles, including one for a loss, and defensed two passes to help
Baltimore improve its record to 5-3. The Ravens trail Bettis and the
Steelers by two games in the AFC North. .
This
is the second-career Player of the Week honor for the third-year player
from Miami. Reed is the second Baltimore defensive back to earn this
honor in the past three weeks (DEION SANDERS, Week 7).
SPECIAL
TEAMS: K ADAM VINATIERI, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
In
a 40-22 Patriots victory at St. Louis, New England’s Vinatieri
completed a four-yard touchdown pass to TROY BROWN on a fake field goal
for a decisive 26-14 lead that the defending Super Bowl champions would
not relinquish. The nine-year veteran from South Dakota State also
was a perfect four-for-four in field goal attempts, connecting from 43,
31, 45, and 36 yards. Vinatieri leads all NFL kickers on the season
with 76 points scored. With the win, the Patriots improve their
record to 7-1 and reside atop the AFC East.
This
marks the seventh Player of the Week Award of Vinatieri’s career.
NFC
- BUCCANEERS RB MICHAEL PITTMAN, BEARS DE ALEX BROWN &
REDSKINS WR JAMES THRASH NAMED NFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 9
Running
back MICHAEL PITTMAN of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, defensive end ALEX
BROWN of the Chicago Bears and wide receiver JAMES THRASH of the
Washington Redskins are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams
Players of the Week for games played the ninth week of the 2004 season
(November 6-7), the NFL announced today.
OFFENSE:
RB MICHAEL PITTMAN, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Pittman
played an instrumental role in the Buccaneers 34-31 win against the
Kansas City Chiefs, rushing for 128 yards on 15 carries, including three
touchdown runs. With Tampa Bay trailing 24-21 early in the third quarter,
Pittman raced for a 78-yard touchdown, the longest run in franchise
history and longest of his career. Then after the Chiefs took a 31-28
lead into the fourth quarter, Pittman’s three-yard touchdown run with
11:50 remaining proved to be the game-winning score. The San Diego native
scored for the first time on the day on a one-yard run in the second
quarter and averaged 8.5 yards per carry. He also added two receptions
for 30 yards. After starting the season with four consecutive losses, the
Buccaneers have won three of their past four games, including two in a
row at home.
In
his seventh season from Fresno State, this is Pittman’s first Player of
the Week Award.
DEFENSE:
DE ALEX BROWN, CHICAGO BEARS
Brown
wreaked havoc on the New York Giants offense throughout the game, helping
the Bears to an impressive 28-21 road victory. Brown posted a 2004
season-high 4.0 sacks, aiding the defense in limiting New York to 258
total yards and 167 passing yards after entering the game averaging 346.7
and 209.4, respectively. Brown totaled eight tackles and played a major
role in Chicago forcing the Giants into five turnovers. With the Bears
holding a seven-point advantage in the waning moments, Brown’s final
sack of quarterback KURT WARNER forced a fourth-and-20. When the
following play resulted in an incomplete pass, Chicago’s victory was
secure. The 4.0-sack performance was only the third by a Bear since sacks
have been compiled as an official statistic in 1982 and the first since
RICHARD DENT’s 4.5 on December 27, 1987 against the Raiders.
In
his third season from Florida, this is Brown’s first Player of the Week
Award. It also marks the first time Bears’ defenders have captured
consecutive defensive honors (BRIAN URLACHER, Week 8) since MARK CARRIER,
RICHARD DENT, MIKE SINGLETARY and MIKE MERRIWEATHER did it in Weeks 9-12
of the 1990 season.
SPECIAL
TEAMS: WR JAMES THRASH, WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Thrash
excelled in all phases of special teams as the Redskins earned a 17-10
win against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. His 43-yard punt return in
the second quarter led to a 24-yard field goal by OLA KIMRIN, giving the
Redskins a 3-0 advantage. Thrash led the team with four special teams
tackles, downing two balls inside the five-yard line. He also helped
limit Detroit’s dangerous return specialist EDDIE DRUMMOND to a
4.2-yard punt return average in the win.
In
his eighth season from Missouri Southern, this is Thrash’s first Player
of the Week Award
It

SEASON’S
SECOND HALF KICKS OFF: AFC PROJECTIONS
BALTIMORE: Club is on pace for its fourth double-digit win total in the
past five seasons, led by QB KYLE BOLLER…… Offense (154) is on pace
to surpass 300 points scored for the sixth consecutive season under head
coach BRIAN BILLICK ……S ED REED has four interceptions and with four
more will surpass the Ravens’ record of seven in a season, shared by
Reed (2003) and ROD WOODSON (1999)……LB TERRELL SUGGS (7.5) stands
second in the AFC in sacks and is on track to tie the club record of 15.0
held by LB PETER BOULWARE (2001).
BUFFALO:
RB WILLIS MC GAHEE has rushed for more than 100 yards in each of his
three starts, averaging 115.0 yards. If McGahee can maintain that
average, he will gain 1,393 yards, which would be the second-most yards
by a Buffalo player in the past 10 seasons and the seventh-most in team
history……KR-CB TERRENCE MC GEE leads the AFC in kickoff-return
average (27.3) and may become the first Bills player to lead the AFC in
the category since 1982 (MIKE MOSLEY, 27.1).
CINCINNATI:
RB RUDI JOHNSON leads the team with 683 rushing yards. Johnson is on pace
to rush for 1,366 yards, which would be the second-most yards by a
Cincinnati player in club history (COREY DILLON, 1,435, 2000)……CB
TORY JAMES tops the NFL with five interceptions. The last Bengal to lead
the NFL in interceptions was KEN RILEY in 1983, with eight……K SHAYNE
GRAHAM (68) is poised to set a club record for points, currently held by
kicker DOUG PELFREY, who posted 121 in 1995.
CLEVELAND:
QB JEFF GARCIA is on track to pass for 3,056 yards, which would be the
most by a Cleveland QB since BERNIE KOSAR in 1991 (3,487). Garcia has
rushed for two touchdowns through eight games. The last Browns QB to rush
for four was BRIAN SIPE (1974)……Cleveland is out-rushing opponents
934 yards to 858. The Browns last out-rushed their opponents by as many
as 152 yards for a season in 1987 (1,745 to 1,433), when the team was
10-5 and won its division……DE EBENEZER EKUBAN has 5.0 sacks and is on
pace to surpass his career-high of 6.5.
DENVER:
The Broncos’ offensive line has surrendered seven sacks through nine
games, which would project to the fewest sacks allowed in a season in NFL
history……QB JAKE PLUMMER is on pace to surpass several club passing
records set by Pro Football Hall of Famer JOHN ELWAY. Plummer’s
projections: 4,057 yards (Elway: 4,030, 1993); 33 TDs (Elway: 27, 1997);
and 354 completions (Elway: 348, 1993).
HOUSTON:
The Texans may become only the fourth team since 2000 to post a
4,000-yard passer (QB DAVID CARR, 2,162) and a pair of 1,000-yard
receivers (WR ANDRE JOHNSON, 693; WR JABAR GAFFNEY, 411)……Rookie CB
DUNTA ROBINSON has three interceptions and is vying to become the fifth
rookie to lead the NFL in interceptions since 1970. Cincinnati CB James
currently leads with five.
INDIANAPOLIS:
QB PEYTON MANNING has passed for 26 TDs in eight games – the fewest
games played in a season to reach that mark. Manning is on a pace that
would topple the NFL record of 48 TD passes in a season, set by DAN
MARINO of Miami in 1984. Manning (2,429) needs 2,571 yards in his final
eight games to join Marino (5,084, 1984) as the only QBs in NFL history
to pass for 5,000 in a season……DE DWIGHT FREENEY (6.0) needs 7.5
sacks in the final half of the season to eclipse his own franchise record
of 13.0, which he set in 2002.
JACKSONVILLE:
Club has won three games this season when trailing entering the final
minute of regulation. The NFL record for the most such victories in a
season is four (Arizona, 1996). The Jags are on track for their first
double-digit win season since 1999 (14-2)……QB BYRON LEFTWICH has nine
TD passes. The club-high of 20 was set by MARK BRUNELL twice (1998,
2000)……With 297 more receiving yards, WR JIMMY SMITH (703) will chalk
up his eighth 1,000-yard season in the past nine years. Smith is the
AFC’s receiving yards leader. He last led the conference in receiving
yards in 1996 (1,244).
KANSAS
CITY: Through eight games, RB PRIEST HOLMES leads the NFL in rushing
yards (892) and rushing touchdowns (14). If he maintains this rate,
Holmes will surpass his own all-time NFL record for the most rushing TDs
in a season (27), which he accomplished last year, and would become the
first rusher since Hall of Famer MARION MOTLEY (1950) to win the NFL’s
rushing crown after entering the season aged 30 or older. Holmes began
the season at age 31……QB TRENT GREEN has attained a 98.0 passer
rating and is within reach of climbing past Hall of Famer LEN DAWSON
(101.9 in 1966) for the highest single-season passer rating in club
history.
MIAMI: TE RANDY MC MICHAEL leads the Dolphins with 43 receptions and can
become the first Miami tight end to lead the team in catches for a season
since RB-TE LARRY SEIPLE in 1969 (41 receptions)……The Dolphins’
defense is limiting opponents to a 28.2 percentage of success on
third-down conversion tries, the lowest the team has posted in more than
25 seasons……Miami’s pass defense allows an average of 150.1 yards
per game. This would mark the fewest passing yards allowed per game by
the Dolphins since 1982 (114.1) when the club advanced to Super Bowl XVII.
NEW
ENGLAND: The club (7-1) is on pace for its second-consecutive 14-win
season……QB TOM BRADY (1,894) is on pace to set a career high in
passing yards, besting his mark of 3,764 in 2002. With 15 touchdown
passes thus far, Brady may become the second Patriots quarterback to
reach 30 in a season (BABE PARILLI, 31, 1964)……RB COREY DILLON (798)
is on pace to surpass the club-record for the most yards from scrimmage,
held by RB CRAIG JAMES (1,587) in 1985.
NEW
YORK: The Jets are 6-2 and project to match the franchise’s best record
of 12-4, reached in 1998……RB CURTIS MARTIN (865) is on pace to reach
1,000 rushing yards in each of his first 10 seasons, joining Hall of
Famer BARRY SANDERS as the only two players to accomplish the
feat……CB TERRELL BUCKLEY, rookie S ERIK COLEMAN and S JON MC GRAW
have two interceptions apiece. The three could become only the second
Jets trio in the past 10 seasons to all reach at least four interceptions
(2000).
OAKLAND:
WR-KR DOUG GABRIEL has totaled 655 kickoff return yards and is on pace to
register 1,163 yards on the season, which would be the second-most
kick-return yards in a season in club history (DESMOND HOWARD; 1,318,
1997)……K SEBASTIAN JANIKOWSKI (61 points) is on track to become only
the third player in Raiders annals to lead the team in scoring for five
consecutive years (JEFF JAEGER, 1989-95; GEORGE BLANDA, 1967-73).
PITTSBURGH:
Rookie QB BEN ROETHLISBERGER is on pace to surpass single-season club
records in completion percentage (69.0 pct.; record is 62.1 by TOMMY
MADDOX in 2002) and passer rating (105.2; record is 87.8 TERRY BRADSHAW,
1975). Roethlisberger is 6-0 as a starter and needs a win this week at
Cleveland to set an NFL record for most victorious starts by a rookie QB
to begin a career……RB DUCE STALEY (707) is projected to total the
third-most rushing yards in Steelers history……WR HINES WARD (621
yards) is on pace to register a franchise-record fourth consecutive
1,000-receiving yard season.
SAN
DIEGO: QB DREW BREES is zeroing in on club passing records for touchdowns
and completion percentage. Brees (18) is on pace for 32 TDs, which would
approach the franchise record of 33, set by Hall of Famer DAN FOUTS.
Brees is completing 66.1 percent of his passes, which currently bests San
Diego’s single-season mark of 65.7 (MARK HERMANN, 1985)……TE ANTONIO
GATES leads the NFL with 54 receptions and tops the AFC with eight
touchdown catches. The team record for the most TD catches by a tight end
is 10, shared by WILLIE FRAZIER (1967) and Hall of Famer KELLEN WINSLOW
(1981).
TENNESSEE:
In his first year as a starter, RB CHRIS BROWN has rushed for 810 yards
through eight games. Brown is on pace for 1,620 rushing yards, which
would account for the most in club history since Hall of Famer EARL
CAMPBELL ran for a franchise-record 1,934 yards (1980)……WRs DERRICK
MASON (52) and DREW BENNETT (33) can become the team’s first duo to
reach 65 catches apiece since 1994 (WEBSTER SLAUGHTER, 68; HAYWOOD
JEFFIRES, 68).
HALFWAY
HOME: NFC MIDSEASON PROJECTIONS
ARIZONA:
Running back EMMITT SMITH has rushed for six touchdowns and is on track
for 12, which would be the second-most in team history (JOHN DAVID CROW,
14, 1962)……The Cardinals could become the first team with consecutive
50-catch seasons by rookie wide receivers since the 1995-96 New York Jets
(WAYNE CHREBET, 66, 1995; KEYSHAWN JOHNSON, 63, 1996). First-round pick
LARRY FITZGERALD has 31 catches and is on target for 62. WR ANQUAN BOLDIN
set the NFL rookie record in 2003, posting 101 receptions.
ATLANTA:
Quarterback MICHAEL VICK has 463 rushing yards and is on pace for 926,
which would make him the third QB since 1970 to rush for at least 900
yards in a season, joining BOBBY DOUGLASS (968, 1972) and RANDALL
CUNNINGHAM (942, 1990)……TE ALGE CRUMPLER leads the team with 31
receptions for 441 yards and is on pace for 62 catches and 882 yards,
eclipsing the franchise records for tight ends held by JUNIOR MILLER (46,
1980) and JIM MITCHELL (650, 1970)……DE PATRICK KERNEY has 7.0 sacks
and is on pace for a team-record 14.0.
CAROLINA:
Rookie WR KEARY COLBERT, a second-round draft choice from Southern
California, has been a big play threat for the Panthers. If Colbert
maintains his current 16.8-yards per catch average, it will be the second
highest in team history (PATRICK JEFFERS, 17.2, 1999). With 27 receptions
for 453 yards, the Oxnard, California native is on pace for 54 and 906,
which would both be franchise records for rookies (RAE CARRUTH, 44 for
595, 1997).
CHICAGO:
In his first season with the Bears, RB THOMAS JONES has been a threat
both rushing and receiving. He leads the club with 511 rushing yards and
26 receptions (191 yards) and may become the first Bear to lead the team
in both categories since NEAL ANDERSON in 1989 (1,275 rushing, 50
receptions)……Perennial All-Star LB BRIAN URLACHER has 4.0 sacks and
is on pace to equal his career-high of 8.0 in 2000.
DALLAS:
Second-year TE JASON WITTEN is rapidly emerging as one of the NFL’s
best. Witten has a team-leading 45 receptions for 488 yards and is on
pace for 90 catches and 976 yards. Those totals would rank first in
tight-end team history, surpassing the previous mark of 68 by JAY NOVACEK
in 1992 and 793 by DOUG COSBIE in 1985……DE GREG ELLIS leads the club
with 6.0 sacks and is on track for 12.0, which would be Dallas’ most
since 1996 (TONY TOLBERT, 12.0).
DETROIT:
Quarterback JOEY HARRINGTON has tossed 13 touchdowns versus five
interceptions and is on pace to join SCOTT MITCHELL (32, 1995) and BOBBY
LAYNE (26, 1951) as the only players in franchise history with 25
touchdown passes in a single season. If Harrington maintains his current
87.9 passer rating, it will be the third-highest rating in team history.
GREEN
BAY: Quarterback BRETT FAVRE has 14 touchdown passes and is on pace for
28, which would be his 11th consecutive season with 20 touchdown passes,
eclipsing DAN MARINO (10) for the most in NFL history. Favre has passed
for 2,007 yards and could top 4,000 for the fourth time in his career. If
he reaches 3,000 yards he will tie Marino with 13 3,000-yard seasons, the
most all-time……Third-year WR JAVON WALKER has an NFL-best 783
receiving yards (46 catches) and is on target for the first 1,500-yard
(1,566) season in franchise annals.
MINNESOTA:
Quarterback DAUNTE CULPEPPER is on pace for one of the most prolific
passing seasons in NFL history. The two-time All-Star has 21 touchdown
passes and is on track for 42, which would be the third-most all-time,
trailing DAN MARINO, who tossed 48 in 1984 and 44 in 1986……Rookie RB
MEWELDE MOORE, a fourth-round draft choice, leads the club with 376
rushing yards and is on pace for 752, which would be the most by a
Vikings’ rookie since ALFRED ANDERSON’s 773 yards in 1984.
NEW
ORLEANS: Wide receiver JOE HORN is on track to continue his club record
streak of consecutive seasons with at least 75 receptions. Horn has
accomplished the feat four years in a row and with 49 receptions (591
yards), he is on pace for 98 in 2004……Defensive end CHARLES GRANT has
7.5 sacks and is on target to post 15.0, which would make him only the
fifth player in team history with a 15.0-sack season.
NEW
YORK: Running back TIKI BARBER has rushed for 820 yards in eight games
and is on pace for 1,640 yards, which would top JOE MORRIS’
franchise-record 1,516 yards in 1986. Barber may also surpass the NFL
record for yards from scrimmage (MARSHALL FAULK; 2,429, 1999), as he is
on pace for 2,462……Rookie safety GIBRIL WILSON, a fifth-round pick
from Tennessee and the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October,
ties for the league rookie lead with three interceptions. Wilson is on
pace for six, the most by a Giants rookie since TERRY JACKSON’s seven
in 1978.
PHILADELPHIA:
Quarterback DONOVAN MC NABB is enjoying one of the best seasons an
Eagles’ passer has ever had. McNabb has 2,081 passing yards and 14
touchdown passes and is on pace for a franchise-record 4,162 yards –
topping RANDALL CUNNINGHAM’s 3,808 yards in 1988. If McNabb maintains
his current 98.7 passer rating, it will be the highest in team history,
besting TOMMY THOMPSON’s 98.4 rating in 1948……WR TERRELL OWENS’
first season in Philadelphia has been a memorable one. The big-play
threat has nine touchdown receptions and is on track for 18, which would
tie for the second most in NFL history (MARK CLAYTON and STERLING SHARPE;
first, JERRY RICE, 22).
ST.
LOUIS: Quarterback MARC BULGER has passed for 2,270 yards this season and
is on target for 4,540, which would make him the third player in
franchise history with 4,000 passing yards in a season, joining KURT
WARNER and JIM EVERETT. Warner accomplished the feat in 1999 (4,353) and
2001 (4,830) while Everett did it 1989 (4,310)
SAN
FRANCISCO: Fourth-year TE ERIC JOHNSON from Yale has been a prolific
receiving threat all season, with 51 receptions for 547 yards. He is on
pace for 102 catches and 1,094 yards, which would surpass the NFL record
for receptions by a tight end, currently held by BEN COATES, who had 96
in 1994 for the New England Patriots……LB JAMIE WINBORN leads the team
with 4.5 sacks, tops among NFC linebackers, and is on pace for a
career-high 9.0
SEATTLE:
With a 5-3 record, the Seahawks are on target for their second
consecutive 10-win season……RB SHAUN ALEXANDER has 879 yards rushing
and is on track for 1,758 yards, which would be the most in franchise
history……CB KEN LUCAS leads the NFC with four interceptions and if he
finishes with eight, it will equal the most by a Seahawk since EUGENE
ROBINSON totaled nine in 1993.
TAMPA
BAY: Rookie first-round draft choice MICHAEL CLAYTON has been one of the
year’s top newcomers. Clayton leads rookies with 42 receptions and 595
receiving yards and is on pace for 84 catches and 1,190 yards receiving.
The 84 catches would pass EARL COOPER, who totaled 83 for San Francisco
in 1980, for the third-most among rookies in NFL history. Arizona’s
ANQUAN BOLDIN set the mark with 101 receptions in 2003, followed by TERRY
GLENN’s 90 catches for the 1996 New England Patriots.
WASHINGTON:
Running back CLINTON PORTIS is bidding to make NFL history this season
and is on track to do just that. Portis has rushed for 810 yards in eight
games and is on pace for a 1,620-yard season, which would make him the
first player in the 85-year history of the NFL to rush for at least 1,500
yards in each of his first three seasons.
It
is so cool to be the only Aussie that has regularly reported on the NFL
for the past 5 years. Yep that's me, I have had NFL media passes at Super
Bowl's, Pro Bowl's and other NFL games. Thus I am allowed into the NFL
Media section and allowed to post their great reports on here. Much more
coming over the coming weeks.
