Alouettes the Grey Cup 2002 Champs, training camp days 1 & 2 report!"

From Alouettes Media
Louis-Philippe Dorais, Director of media relations
Noah Sidel, Assistant to the Director of media relations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TRAINING
CAMP: DAY 2
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, May 30, 2005 - The Alouettes continued their training
camp at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean today. Here's a look at Day 2, which was
held at the Stade du Haut-Richelieu:
Two departures
The Alouettes announced that linebacker Marvin Jones and defensive end Nick Hill
were released.
Two additions
Defensive back Kealvin Armstrong and Josh Lovelady have replaced them on the
roster. Lovelady is now the heaviest player at camp at 349 lbs.
Two interceptions
Veteran defensive back Reggie Durden had two interceptions over the course of
today's practices.
Two practices
As usual, the Alouettes held two consecutive practices. In the second session,
players wore shoulder pads for the first time this training camp.
Curry
Cornerback Almondo Curry is now in town and will undergo his medical exam today.
He is expected on the practice field tomorrow.
Bumps and bruises
Four minor injuries today: Terry Vaughn (toe), Robert Edwards (hamstring),
Jajuan Dawson (toe) and Mark Estelle (groin).
According to Coach Matthews
''I'm going to fire my weatherman,'' he said, joking about Assistant General
Manager Marcel Desjardins who had informed Coach Matthews of a 60 per cent
chance of rain before today's practice.
''Vets set the tempo and everyone picks up from there,'' he said, commenting on
the impressive rhythm of both practices.
Schedule
The Alouettes will continue on their regular schedule tomorrow. First practice
will begin at 8 a.m. with players available for interviews after the last
practice. Please contact the communications department for confirmation on
practice location.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TRAINING CAMP: DAY 1
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, May 29, 2005 - The Alouettes held the first official
team practice today in front of approximately 2,000 excited fans at the Campus
du Fort Saint-Jean.
CN Employee Day
Today was CN Employee Day with approximately 1,000 employees and their families
taking the train from Montreal to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. They took part of
the Alouettes' barbecue during practice and mingled with the players after
practice.
A look at the vets
The intensity level was stepped up at today's first practice, held indoors at
the Stade du Haut-Richelieu. With the arrival of veteran players at training
camp, the pace has picked up on the field. Several new Alouettes added new
excitment to the team, including receivers Darnell McDonald and Terry Vaughn and
running back Michael Jenkins.
Draft picks stand out
Free safety Matthieu Proulx had another interception, while receiver Adam
Eckert, also a 2005 Als' draft pick, made a couple of very nice catches.
Curry absent
Cornerback Almondo Curry still has yet to show up to training camp.
Number changes
Several players have changed their jersey numbers: Kelly Malveaux will be
wearing 21, while Richard Karikari switched to number 1 and Tim Gilligan is now
number 87.
Izzy trim
Infamous return specialist Ezra Landry has trimmed his hair. ''I wanted to avoid
getting tackled, and maybe injured, in case a player decided to pull my hair,''
he said. Due to this kind initiative, fans will actually be able to read his
name on the back of his jersey...
Schedule
The Alouettes will be back on their regular schedule over the next few days.
Practices will be held at 8 a.m., running until approximately 12 p.m. Players
are available for interviews after practice.

"The
Winnipeg Blue Bombers are pleased to announce their guest coaching staff for
this year’s training camp!" Myk
Jeff
Cummins was one of the 1st CFL players I ever met. I had a great chat to him at
the Grey cup 99 Best Player Awards. He couldn't believe it that I was from
Australia and reporting on the CFL. We swapped hats, did a bit of filming for
MYKwebTV. Jeff seemed a great guy.

Wed,
May 18 05' "The Bombers’ newest QB was named Best of the Best at the
Damon Allen Quarterback Challenge, held May 14 at York University!"
From
Bombers media
WINNIPEG, MB – While he has yet to play a game for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers,
Spergon Wynn is already a winner as a member of the Blue and Gold.
The
Bombers’ newest QB was named Best of the Best at the Damon Allen Quarterback
Challenge, held May 14 at York University.
The
one-day event featured 13 of the top quarterbacks from across the CFL including
Damon Allen, Dave Dickenson, Danny McManus, Nealon Greene, Ricky Ray, Marcus
Crandel, Marcus Brady, Henry Burris, Rocky Butler, Scott Krause, Scott
Covington, and the Blue Bomber duo of Wynn and Kevin Glenn.
Wynn
(6-foot-3 and 226 pounds) finished first overall in the competition, which
featured long ball, accuracy, footwork and sprint-out events. He won both the
sprint-out and footwork events. Ironically,
Wynn was a last-minute substitute when another competitor had to pull out of the
event.
“Damon’s
just a great guy,” Wynn said. “I was honoured to do it for him. “There
were a lot of good guys out there. I was lucky to hit the targets at the right
time. It’s nice to feel like I belong with those guys.”
Fellow
Bomber Glenn finished with the second highest point total including the top
finish in the accuracy competition. Proceeds
from the Damon Allen Quarterback Challenge will be used to assist Kids Help
Phone. Portions of the
event will begin airing on The Score television network beginning next month.

I'm
not sure if I like the mainly Orange BC Lions new jerseys as I really liked the
White Lions jerseys and silver pants but I suppose it's all about selling more
jerseys to the fans and making $$$ for our underpaid CFL stars.

NEW LOOK INCORPORATES CLASSIC ELEMENTS WBB
RELEASE
WINNIPEG,
MB - As part of the club's on-going 75th anniversary celebrations,
the Winnipeg Blue Bombers officially unveiled their new team home and away uniforms today. The
retooled jerseys and pants feature a cleaner, crisper look while
maintaining the classic Blue and Gold colour scheme that Bomber fans are
familiar with.
Perhaps
the most noticeable element of the new-look uniforms is the incorporation of a truer shade of gold than what was previously featured.
And for the first time, Bomber
fans will be able to wear the exact same colours as those worn by the players on
the field and the coaching staff on the sidelines.
"The
problem before was there were too many variations out there," said Blue
Bombers Vice-President of Sales and Marketing Jerry Maslowsky. "What
we wanted to do was to ensure consistency in our colours on the field and in our
merchandising. This is professional sport. We have to look good and we have to
look consistent."
The
uniform re-design had been in the works for more than two years. It
is being launched this season to coincide with the football club's 75th
anniversary and a league-wide uniform re-design being done in conjunction with
Reebok.
"This
didn't just happen. A project of this magnitude is a lot of work," Maslowsky said. "Obviously it's a celebration of our 75th anniversary and
our pride in the Blue and Gold. What we wanted to do was create a uniform, both
home and away, that our fans can be proud of."
Bomber
players will also notice a difference in their new duds. They have been anatomically-designed to account for all shapes and sizes, meaning a
receiver's jersey will fit differently than an offensive lineman's jersey.
"They
look good and the guys all agree on that," said Bombers equipment manager
Brad Fotty. "I'm sure it won't take the guys long to get used to
them."
Maslowsky
said the club expects the new-look jerseys will have a "significant impact" on merchandise sales in the community. The
Bomber Store at Canad Inns Stadium will be selling replica jersey's exclusively
for the next 10 days beginning today. The first 300 fans to purchase a replica
jersey will receive a 75th anniversary patch at no extra cost.
