Update! Week18 and all playoff spots decided already! No 'Cross-over"!" Moose Salzer
The playoffs are set with
Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto in the Eastern Conference and Saskatchewan,
Calgary and British Columbia in the West. My Grey Cup pick and it's more of a
wish since they have never played in the CFL Championship vs. each other
before: West: Saskatchewan versus the East's Winnipeg home for a Grey Cup for a change.
Of the 13 Grey Cups
in-a-row I have seen, only B.C., who I reluctantly forgave for beating my
beloved Baltimore Stallions has been a home winner. I thought for sure
Edmonton would take out The Don's Alouettes in '02 and alas it wasn't
to be. But I sure had fun with Oilerbabe, Myk and Fanny Anne that week!

It looks like after all the Edmonton Eskies will make the playoffs for the
34th year in a row, which is the record in North American Pro Sports, all
teams, all Leagues. Sorry to hear about this Dept.: Milt Stegall will have to
come back next year to beat out the venerable George Reed and Mike Pringle for
the CFL's all-time most career Majors mark (both share at 137, presently). I
predicted at the beginning of the CFL season that Toronto was throwing
$250,000 Canadian looines down the drain on overrated Ricky Williams and I was
right on. Next Week: CFL Playoff Preview, in Depth. Listen for me on Gabe

Myk is still lamenting over
the Lions loss to the Roughriders. Comcast is no longer carrying LIVE CFL for
the remainder of the season, however they have the tape delay games on this
week. The Rumour is The Don could be out (along with Anthony Calvillo) if the
Als don't step it up soon. Don't expect The Don to be back anywhere else if he
doesn't last out his Montreal contract. He has napalmed a few bridges in his
days...Honorable Mention for many Stampeders players this week for their big
win over slumping TO. Damon Allen hurt again...Yawn. But ex-Ar.FL'r Mike
Bishop who SHOULD be the Argos QB of the future, did play pretty well down the
stretch.

It seems that I made a bad
pick on Montreal Radio with Gabe Morency Saturday night...I picked Montreal
over B.C., to snap out of it's funk. It appears that Montreal's reign in the
Eastern Conference is done. Stick it with a fork! Anthony Clavillo and Co.
have all of a sudden gotten old. Kinda hard to imagine when you see how old
TO. is! The Als simply can't win out in B.C. Place. The Roughriders need to
win out to move up and secure not only a playoff spot but also get Coach Danny
Barrett, a decent guy that contract extension. I still think changing tires
(i.e. Eric 'The Red' Tillman for good 'ole Roy Shivers) is a non-sequitor! It
seems that good 'ole Ron Lancaster may be Coaching longer than we might have
first thought. I will say also that Hamilton made a fine choice for G.M. with
Des Jardens!

Hi USA-CFL fans, We all will get a chance to relive that
exciting 1994 Grey Cup game on Tuesday 9-19-06 at 7P.M. EDT and 11 P/M. PST.
Unfortunately Lui will probably not miss the field goal at the end. Also,
there is a scheduled show on Sept. 30 at 11 A.M. featuring the career of Matt
Dunigan, one of the new 2006 CFL Hall of Fame group being inducted at the end
of this month. I hope they show the one game where he threw for over 700
yards. Hope you get a chance to watch these programs. Check your local
stations and times. Above dates and times are on my Star Choice listings. Only
two months to Grey Cup......" Joe Short.

Warren Moon, who may never have met Damon Allen before got a free trip back to
Canada this weekend as Damon Allen set the new Pro Football Alltime Passing
Yardage mark, breaking Moon's Pro Record: 70,555 yds. Allen also has 70,555
Time Count Violations, but why be negative, eh? Newbies - Sort
of...Canadian QB Jessie 'The Batchelor' Palmer is now through with the NFL and
is property of the Montreal Alouettes.
I saw several CFL games this weekend courtesy of Comcast Sports and am getting
jazzed to be almost ready to jump on that bird and get to that Grey Cup in
Winnipeg this Nov. Only Canadian QB left in the NFL now is Pittsburgh 3QB
Brian St. Pierre from Doug Flutie's Alma Mater, Boston College. Orlando PRED
joins Alouettes this week, too: WR/DB/KR Javarus Dudley, who helped the Preds
get into ArenaBowl XX joined Montreal also this week and is expected to take
some pressure off ailing pivot Anthony Calvillo. Don't expect Jessie 'The
Body' to play just yet. But this Canadian pivot could be the QB of the future!
Good luck also to Mike Abou-Merick, OLm who is out with a bum ankle, which
happened on the first and then third plays of the third Banjo Cup (Canadians
Don't drink from Bowls!) game yesterday. I'm now only 28-27 on the season in
CFL Picks, but I got 13 of 16 right on NFL Picks this weekend.
Game Balls this Week:

2) Kevin Glenn, QB, Winnipeg
3) Noel Prefontaine, K-P, Toronto (expect TO. to come back to earth anyday
now!)
4) Sandro DeAngelis, K, Calgary

I went
on Gabe Morency's Saturday AM Freak Show on Montreal Radio this past weekend.
Got a friendly call from me and Myk's old mate Jimmy 'The Concordia Stinger'
Spencer at 11:58 p.m. The Stinger played the Hawai'i Five-0 Theme Song as my
intro as usual. The main thrust (was not Tangerine Dream,
unfortunately...) of my talk was the NCAA's as my Almer Mater, the U. of
Hawai'i was at Alabama in the school's first trip there in Warrior History!,
but I still managed to 'dig' into Gabe when he bashed Spencer, about the Als
sudden cold streak of 6 (six!) straight losses. Is it Jim Popp? Is it 'The
Don'? What gives in Grey Cup '08 town?! Speaking of CFL streaks, the Stamps
won their fourth in a row over cold Edmonton, who has lost two in a row and is
now 3-7-0. My Grey Cup hopefuls better up the Ante - soon!
Toronto won it's third in a row and I have to give D. Allen a 'lil credit this
week as well...Now to go with his 70,550+ Time Count Violations, he also has
70, 500+ yds., breaking the Immortal Warren Moon's mark by two yds. This is
the reason Allen has hung around this long, I believe. He's still nowhere as
good as Warren though. Sorry Damon, you'll probably never be on my Top 50 QBs
list. He's still active though. Saskatchewan has amazingly caught fire,
winning three in a row since firing former Hawai'i RB Coach, G.M. Roy Shivers.
How about the bald head and funky glasses that Danny Barrett is wearing now? I
still don't think Adam Rita's three-headed QB deal in TO. will be able to get
these guys into the playoffs, unless the wheels really fall off in Winnipeg
but they still won't make the Grey Cup either. I believe this will definitely
be Allen's last year though.
Who is Buck Pierce? Buckley
Pierce in his second CFL season played NCAA Footy with the New Mexico St.
Lobos and started as a 5th yr. Sr. He broke most of ex-Calgary Stampeder Joe
Pisarcik(1974-'76)'s records at N.M. Pisarcik still holds one CFL record of
note; he threw 272 consecutive CFL passes without an INT. He later signed with
the New York Giants (1977) and later played backup QB on the Eagles first
Super Bowl team (1980) and later to end his 10 seasons Pro career, the Miami
Dolphins (1983). But back to young Pierce - the 'Buck' definitely
doesn't stop there! Pierce, who was third string on B.C. last year, but still
through his first Pro major, moved up the depth chart to number two this year.
He is smart to have stayed with the Leos since Dave Dickenson has had trouble
staying healthy since getting back from the NFL several years ago. Pierce is
undefeated so far in starts this year and gunned three TDs v. Montreal in the
B.C. win. Keep an eye on him. He loves the CFL and has been good from the very
get-go of his Pro career. Besides, you gotta love a bloke with the name,
"Buck"!
Game Balls:
1) Kenton Keith, RB, Saskatchewan
2) Henry Burris QB & Brian Clark, LB, Calgary
3) Ricky Ray, QB, Edmonton, who continues to hang in there...
4) Buck Pierce, [see above] QB, B.C.
5) Wes Cates, RB-SB, Calgary.
