From Moose
Scores from Week 9:
Orlando 47, Austin 37
Georgia 61, Tampa Bay 51
Chicago 51, Grand Rapids 44
Philadelphia 55, Dallas 51
Columbus 65, Colorado 21 [worst performance by Elway and Bowlen's boys to date!)
Nashville 51, San Jose 48
Arizona 58, Los Angeles 45
New York 54, Kansas City 48
Las Vegas 49, Utah 47
He must have read my last week's
posted column! Coach Jay Gruden and the Orlando Predators snapped out of their
doldrums and whipped a very good Austin Wrangles team, on the road yester-
day. It's always nice to go home Dept: After helping the Nashvegas Kats to two
ArenaBowls back in 2000-01, KR/WR/LB Cory Fleming and TE/NG James Baron went
to other clubs in the League, but are back in the 'Third Coast' now and
helping Pat Sperduto's (latest) Kats to more wins. Fleming was named Player of
the Week for last weekend's performance and I agree: The rest of my Game
Balls, to:
1) Tony (The Graz) Graziani, QB, Philadelphia (finally - a performance worth
all that money they are paying you!)
2) Cory Fleming, KR/WR/LB, Nashville
3) Mike Horacek, OS, New York
4) Mike Lewis, K, Columbus (made all his kicks!)
5) Ben Nelson, OS, San Jose" Moose

From Moose Week Eight Scores:
Los Angeles 60, Colorado 57
Austin 64, Kansas City 37
Tampa Bay 60, New York 44
Columbus 53, Philadelphia 20
Arizona 47, Las Vegas 33
Nashville 48, Chicago 47
Dallas 87, Orlando 62
San Jose 56, Georgia 55, O.T. shoot out
Utah 59, Grand Rapids 49
Milestones: Bob McMillen,
Chicago FB/LB, RE-became the League's all-time leading rusher and now
stands at 1,387 career yards in 13 Ar.FL seasons (or parts of 13 yrs.) Dallas
QB Clint Dolezel tied the League all-time TD passing-game mark with 11 TDs in
the Desperados win on Sunday. He has passed for 11 TDs twice now and Aaron
Garcia, injured New York QB has also passed for 11 in an Ar.FL game. They both
broke Kurt Warner's former mark of 10, which he held with several other QBs,
though he was the first to do it. Dallas set a personal team high with 87
points for in a game. For a more dubious mark of 87 against, see below
Week 8 Notes - What has happened
to the Gruden Coaching Boys magic (or is it majik)? Even with older (&
smaller) bro Jon and his family in the stands Sunday, the Predators lost their
third game in four (I mistakenly said they would lose their 'third in-a-row'
on Morency's Sportsrage, Montreal AM 990, The Team Saturday, a.m., Mea Culpa -
it's late when I go on). For the years despite great fan attendance and
support and a modest by modern (21st century, anyway) Ar.FL prices, the Preds
have gotten by with a modest budget, while free agents continue to leave the
team in groves.
The Jay Gruden Formula, as the
greatest QB in League history has uasually been enough to get the most out of
a barely adequately talented bunch and
still win a fair share of games. But the bloom IS REALLY off the rose now!
Ouch! Giving up 87 points to ANYBODY in the Ar.FL, no matter how GOOD their QB
is hurts! Gruden during the game EVEN said Dolezel (pronounced "Doll-zelle")
was the best in the League @ his position. I have no argument with that
statement. But Jay, son, you gotta do something with that lousy Defence! And
what about 'Lil Jonny Gruden - releasing a very good QB in Brian Griese
several weeks ago in favor of 'Lil Simms, the Lefty and his horrid performance
v. an overrated Washington team in the playoffs?! Pu-Leeze! 'Lil Simms is an
above average QB @ best! Maybe Steve Young was right after all! I shudder to
think it!
Game Balls:
1) Remy Hamiton, K, Los Angeles
2) Damon Wheeler (who finally woke up), DS, Los Angeles
3) Clint Dolezel (kinda tired of talking about him every week!), QB, Dallas
4) Bobby McMillen, LB/FB/KS, Chicago
5) Damon Harrell, OS, Colorado
Honourable Mention: Get Well Soon! WR/LB/ST'r Andy McCullough, Colorado,
QBs Shredrick Bonner, Arizona & Mark Grieb, San Jose

From Moose "Arena Football
Update!"
Scores: Kansas City
OVER Philadelphia,
Arizona 60, Orlando 57 [Normally reliable Jay Taylor misses 5 XPs!]
Utah 63, Nashville 34
Los Angeles 75, San Jose 61
Georgia 68, Columbus 50
Las Vegas 66, Grand Rapids 41
New York 59, Austin 56
Colorado 49, Chicago 42
Dallas 64, Tampa Bay 35
Milestones: Dallas QB Clinton
Dolezel became the third QB in Pro Football History to pass for 700+ TDs with
his eight TD tosses v. Tampa Sunday on NBC. Barry Wagner, just activated by
the San Jose Sabercats, returned the opening kickoff for 41 yards to become
the all time leading yardage gainer in Arena League history, passing Utah Ast.
Coach Hunkie Cooper, the former 12-yr Arizona Rattler player extraordinaire.
Injury Update(s) ; The Arena
League QBs are taking a beating this year like never before; New York is down
to it's fourth string QB, former Philly/Grand Rapids pivot Nick Browder, who
won them their upset game over previously 5-1 Austin. Browder threw 5 TDs and
ran for one more. Last year's backup Chris Boden torn a knee ligament in
training camp and Aaron Garcia (the starter, who also has 700+ career TDs) is
out for the rest of the regular season with a fractured tibia. Ditto for
Nashville starter Clint Stoerner, the ex-Cowboy (NFL) starter ('01) who
fractured his fibia in the loss to Utah. New York's other backup, Justin Wood
(Af2 vet, Bakersfield / Central Valley) injured his knee v. Austin and will be
out 5-6 weeks himself.
Week Seven Game Balls:
(1) Damien Harrell, OS, Colorado, the best in the League @ his position!
(2) Clint Dolezel, QB, Dallas
(3) Duke Pettijohn, FB/LB, Dallas
(4) Joe Germaine, QB, Utah
(5) [Tie] Shredrick Bonner, QB, Arizona & Mark Grieb, QB, San Jose
If the season ended today, these
would be my Most Outstanding Picks for Ar.FL players / Coaches for season 20:
Offencive Player of the Year: Damien Harrell, Colorado, OS. Rookie of the
Year: Las Vegas QB Jason Fife. Coach of the Year: Skip Foster, Austin, or Doug
Kay (former Univ. of Hawai'i Assco. Coach, '80-'82). Defencive Player of the
Year: Henry Taylor, a surprise, Orlando Predators. Ironman of the Year; sorry
Kevin Ingram of Los Angeles; my guy would be Willis Marshall, the three time
Grey Cup participant for the Calgary Stampeders, KR-WR-DB, Colorado.
Week Eight games:
@Grand Rapids vs Utah
@Nashville vs Chicago
@Las Vegas vs Arizona
@San Jose vs Georgia
@Columbus vs Philadelphia
@Tampa Bay vs New York
@Austin vs Kansas City
@Orlando vs Dallas
@Los Angeles vs Colorado" Moose

Mon,
Mar 6th, 06 "Moose's Arena Football Week 6 excellent report!" Myk Aussie
From Moose "Week Six Notes. My
Week Seven Picks coming later this week.
In Orlando's impressive win over
visiting Los Angeles, the running game took centre stage. Kevin Nagle (25-yd
TD run) and former Maryland RB Marlon Moye-Moore's 3 short TDs were too much
for second game QB Sonny Cumbie and Co. to overcome. Poor Ed Hodgkiss, a very
fine Coach w/ the Avengers is ready to pull what's left of his hair out. His
players lost their cool v. the Preds and had too many penalties. Surprise,
surprise, surprise; The Arizona Rattlers and San Jose Sabercats DO ahve some
life left in them after all. Both pulled mild upsets this weekend over
good teams; Nashville and Utah, respectively. Boy but the NBC studio hacks
have to go!
These three guys know nothing
about the game and League! I am especially disappointed in Hugh Hunter, an ex-Ar.FL/NFL
player, who just retired after Colorado's ArenaBowl XIX Championship last
June. The deal was better with Bill Weber in the Studio when Mr. hair (not
really!) Al Trautwig was on assignment in Torino for the Olympics (they should
have paid the Italians to keep him)! New starting QBs in the League the last
couple weeks include: 'Vegas Jason Fife (starter Craig Wheilihan still with
that tender right ankle), Cumbie over Brian Mann for L.A., and former Toronto
Phantom Chad Salisbury in Grand Rapids over Ray Philyaw. All three doing well
(excluding nutty Hunter's remarks v. Cumbie on today's telecast on NBC, who
mercifully switched over to Dallas @ Chicago when the Preds / Avengers game
was over. Boy, it got over quick, too, @ an economical 2:31 minutes.
Another reason to like the Arena League
over that slow, dull, boring outdoor League, that may be headed for it's
fourth strike in thirty-two years, of Union players. What a way for Paul
Tagliabue to go out, eh? Saw the M.L.L. Toronto Rock come from behind
and beat Philly last night on Comcast (tape delay format), too. That and the
Clipper's fine loss (105-103, a great game and comeback nonetheless) @ the
Delta Centre on Friday made for an entertaining weekend of Sports watching.
Hope my buddy MykAussie did well in covering the CIAU girls Volleyball @ Univ.
of Calgary Dino's also. Hope everybody had a good weekend and got outside too.
We do not advocate 'Couch-Potato-ism's here @ MYKwebWORLD!
Game Balls Week Six:
1) Shredrick Bonner, Arizona QB.
2) Clint Dolezel, Dallas QB.
3) John Kaleo, Columbus QB.
4) Orlando FBs: Marlon Moye-Moore and Kevin Nagle
5) Columbus NG/TE Kelvin Kinney
