June 12 06 "ArenaBowl XX Upset Special!
The Chicago Rush defeat Orlando Predators 69-61!
It's Ditka's
Rush by a TD!" Moose Salzer
The Chicago Rush, 51% owned by 'Iron' Mike Ditka, former Super Bowl player and
NFL Coach, edged the favored Orlando Predators in the highest scoring ArenaBowl
in League history. Coached by 20-yr Ar.FL vet Mike Hohensee, the Coach got back
into only his second ArenaBowl, since he QB'd the Pittsburgh Gladiators into
ArenaBowl I. The Predators, who had just got to their Ar.FL record 7th ArenaBowl,
are now only 2-5 in the Championship game. Coach Jay Gruden, who went 4-0 in
ArenaBowls, a record that was just tied by Chicago FB/LB Bobby McMillen, is now
a total 6-2 in eight ArenaBowls total, 4-0 as player and 2-2 as Coach. The

The Rush who only entered the playoffs with a paltry 7-9 record, won their 4th
consecutive playoff road game, a la the Pittsburgh Steelers.
 Game Balls:
 1) Bobby McMillen, FB/LB, Chicago
 2) Coach Mike Hohensee, Chicago
 3) Bobby Sippio, OS, Chicago
 4) John Moyer, DL/OL/ST'r, Chicago
 5) Alphonso, WR/DB/KR, Chicago

My Choices for top five ArenaBowl and an analysis of the Honorable Mention game
(some of which I have attended!):1)  XIV - Orlando 41, Nashville 38,
 2)  XIX - Colorado 51, Georgia 48,
 3)  X - Tampa Bay 42, Iowa 38,
 4)  VIII - Arizona 36, Orlando 31,
 5)  V - Tampa Bay 48, Detroit 42

Honorable Mention: XIII: Albany Firebirds 58, Orlando 49 Box Score:Alb. - Brown 12 pass from Pawlawski (Silverstri kick)
Orl. - Wagner 22 pass from Maynor (Cool kick)

The reason for the detailed synopsis here is that Eddie Brown, who was voted the
top player in the first twenty years of the Ar.FL presided at the coin toss
yesterday in Las Vegas. He is Pro Football's alltime leading scorer, albeit
indoors. I however do not believe he's the Ar.FL's best alltime player. My
choice would be former Arizona star, now Utah Ast.Coach, Hunkie Cooper. A great
game yesterday anyway.

Wed,
June 7 06 "ArenaBowl XX Preview and week 19 recap! Af2 report!" Moose Salzer
The Orlando Predators beat the hometown Dallas Desperados, 45-28, and the
Chicago Rush upset the two-time Champion San Jose Sabercats, 59-56. Chicago, who
entered the playoffs an amazingly lucky 7-9, continues to impress, winning their
third straight on-the-road playoff game! Call them the Edmonton Oilers of the
Indoor Pro Arena Football League. Jay Gruden and his Orlando Predators made an
Ar.FL record 7th ArenaBowl appearance possible with Joe Hamilton's very timely
execution of the somewhat complicated J. Gruden Offence. And Dallas Clint
Dolezel had the worst playoff game of his career, thanks in large part to pass
rushing of Orlando's Greg Krause, Greg White, Henry
Taylor, Justin Cleveland and Reggie Lee. FB/LBs Price and Nagle also contributed
with a few hits on the QB as well.
For the Rush to be in the ArenaBowl is quite astonishing since QB Matt D'Orazio
was actually benched twice this year; first in favor of Kaliq Abdul-Ariz and
then for CFL'r Mike Bishop. D'Orazio has been on fire since the Rush acquired
OS, former WR/DB/KR Bobby Sippio from the Tampa Bay Storm on waivers in late
April. Sippio has worn out his welcome everywhere (despite being MVP in Af2),
Miami-NFL, Dallas, also but has been a model citizen in the windy city, so far.
No question, he's moved ahead of Etu Molden and all the other WRs in D'Orazio's
'passing-to' order the last month or so. There is no more lethal passer-receiver
combo on planet earth right now! Joey Hamilton got his game-talk on this weekend
on NBC as well, taunting heckling Al Trautweg and bigmouth Glen (Five Super Bowl
losses) Parker, who said earlier last month, that it was a travesty that
Hamilton was second team All-Ar.FL over the likes of Mark Grieb (S.J.), John
Dutton (Colo.) and Shane Stafford (T.B.). Well, Glenn, those guys aren't in the
ArenaBowl this week are they?

ArenaBowl XX Preview: Orlando Predators (12-6) v. Chicago Rush (10-9).
Moose Pick: Orlando by six. Stats: FB/LBs Kevin Nagle and Idris Price have been
very good in the playoffs, the few times they have carried the ball. Hamilton
and D'Orazio, neither one quite as good as the departed to Toronto, Bishop, but
solid ball carriers themselves. Don't scoff at this; the running game WILL
ALWAYS factor into an Orlando ArenaBowl team, and the Rush had the best running
game in the League both of the last two years. Last year I picked
Orlando v. Chicago in ArenaBowl XIX but was one year off! The Rush
passing game versatility is better than Orlando's, even with the return of Cory
Fleming to the Pred's 'O'. It's on Defence where this ArenaBowl will be won!
Kicking game is even. Whoever gets to the other team's QB more will win. Period.
Nothing against Mike Hohensee, Chicago Coach, but the Preds have way too much
depth up front in the pass rush Dept. The Preds haven't been to an ArenaBowl
since 2000 and they won that one. They just made their record 7th in the 16 year
history of the franchise. Fit Jay Gruden and Co. for another ring, his eighth,
to go along with one Super Bowl ring, as Buccs QB Coach on his bro. little Jonny
G's '03 Tampa-NFL team.

Ar.FL Update: Conference Finals this weekend on NBC; Orlando v. Dallas and San
Jose v. Chicago, My last year's pick one yr. off!
Orlando will play at Dallas this weekend. Moose's Pick: An upset, Orlando by 4.
Chicago, who is the Edmonton Oilers of the Ar.FL will play at San Jose, who's
caught fire lately (sort of...) will upset the Sabercats by 8. Last year I
predicted Chicago v. the Predators in ArenaBowl XIX. I was one year away.
Several weeks ago I picked Columbus Coach Doug Kay, an old mate of mine as Ar.FL
Coach of the Year. I should have waited. Twenty-Year Ar.FL vet Mike Hohensee, a
one-tie USFL and old Ottawa Rough Rider CFL QB, has never been to an ArenaBowl.
That'll change soon. I a week. The RUSH took care of a sloppy John Elway owned
Defending Champ Colorado Crush squad with a vengeance last weekend (salute to
all the vets), 63-46. It wasn't that close. Why did Elway's guys lose? Greed.
Elway resigned everybody back from last year's squad that won the ArenaBowl with
an iron man 18 players (you can dress twenty-one of 24, including a third pivot).
This year, with everybody getting raises, they thought they could go a whole
season with only 18. Sorry, wrong answer. When NBC came into the picture several
years ago, they upped the games to 16 and rosters to 21. Colorado found out a
very valuable lesson this time around. You gotta dress all 21; you need those
extra couple bodies.
In the other games,Orlando took out Philly, 31-27,
 Dallas 62, Georgia 27
 San Jose 62, Arizona 48

Game Balls:1)  Ben Nelson, OS, San Jose
 2)  Orlando's Defence
 3)  Matt D'Orazio, QB, Chicago
 4)  Clint Dolezel, QB, Dallas
 5)  Dallas Coach Will McClay & Chicago Coach Mike Hohensee

 Mon,
May 8 06 "Arena Football League Playoff spots almost settled, Los Angeles, Las
Vegas, Grand Rapids, Utah, Philly, Kansas City 90-100% gone!" Moose Salzer

  I got onto Gabe Morency's
Sportsrage for the Friday Night Freak show (@ about 2:42 a.m. because of all
the callers RE: the fallout of Les Habs loss to Carolina in the first round of
the NHL playoffs and the Saku Koivu "doesn't speak francaise after living in
Montreal for 10-11 yrs." deal) Gabe and went through the Week 16 Picks, which
I won't repeat here. Trust me, we're doing very well versus the spread. Notes:
New Coach, @ least for 1 game in Vegas. As Las Vegas was blown out by Arizona,
Coach Ron James was relieved of his H.Coaching duties, but will remain with
the team for one more week as OL/DL Coach. New Coach is ex-Carolina Coach Mike
Hold (0-13 back in '03, before he was kicked out) Hold may be in the running
for the fulltime H.Coaching spot if the Gladiators can win the final game @
Los Angeles. I predict they will. Both they and L.A. are out of the playoffs
(much like the sorry Lakers of the WNBA, er, ah, NBA). Hold should be able to
get the Offence in gear, @ least for one game.
He wouldn't be a bad choice - he was a very good Coach in Af2. Sparky McEwen,
another Coach on the bubble may have saved his job until next season by
switching QBs to ex-Toronto Phantom Chad (no relation) Salisbury. The Rampage
also signed ex-Philly Soul 4-2 backup this year, Matt Sauk, who I saw LIVE in
the ArenaCup6 last Aug in Shreveport-Bossier City. I am totally @ a loss as to
why a fine younger Coach, Brett Munsey in Philly brought back a hasbeen/retread
like Connell Maynor, 37 to be Tony (The Graz) Graziani's playoff backup (if
they make it, which I DON'T think they will) when Sauk, 29 showed so much
potential when The Graz was out (think about it; 1 FOUR AND TWO RECORD).

SAUK WAS BENCHED FOR A FLIMSY EXCUSE in the third quarter at red-hot New York
last week and Maynor was tackled on the New York goaline as time expired. When
the overrated Graz came off I.R. this week, Sauk was put on waivers and
immediately grabbed by Coach McEwen and the Rampage. I don't get that one on
Philly's part. Is Munsey practicing 'Political Stupidity'? Stay tuned unless
  you're a fish!

Game Balls: 1) Tony Graziani, QB, (2) Ryan Vena, QB, (3) Alex Wallace, DS, (4) Shawn
Withy-Allen, (5) Kenny Higgins, OS, (6) Kevin Williams, WR/DB/KR" Moose

Former Ar.FL players not drafted by the NFL that have become fine NFL players.
This list is by no means totally complete. Mea Culpa: Arizona Cardinals:
Kurtis Eugene Warner, two-time Arena League M.V.P., two-time ArenaBowl

New Orlean KR-WR, Mike Lewis, Philadelphia K, Dave Akers, Washington WR, David
  Patton.

Week 14 Game Balls:1) Chris Avery, ex-Norfolk Nighthawk, Grand Rapids alltime leading rusher
    now.
 2) Craig Whelihan, QB, Las Vegas. They may have lost despite Craig's 4 TD
tosses and two rushing TDs, but he and a friend pulled a woman out of a
burning car AFTER the game in Sin City. A classy act that saved her life!
 3) Nick Browder, QB, New York
 4) Bob Kroenenberg, Def. Coordinator, Georgia.
 5) Will Pettis, WR/DB/ST'r, Dallas

    Aside from Whelihan's heroics
(see above), how about the panic with Philadelphia in New York as they bench
4-1 backup QB Matt Sauk, who I saw play very well in the ArenaCup6
Championship last Aug in S/B.C. and go with ancient Connell Maynor and lost
by time running out on New York's goaline?! El Stupido award this week to a
guy I like very much, Philly Coach Bret Munsey, an ex-Orlando player and top
Sgt. to Coach Jay Gruden, formerly. It only cost Philly the playoffs.

 You can
hear Moose weekly on Gabriel Morency's SportsRage Montreal Team 990 AM sports
radio and on the Internet talking Arena Footy Friday night around 1am Eastern US
and CDN time. I'm on late around 1.30-2am EST Friday or Monday nights as well
talking sports in a comedy/crazy style. I think Gabriel Morency is the best
sports radio guy in the World. To me he's like the Howard Stern of sports. I'm
very confident you will like his show. To listen

Tues,
April 11, 06 "Moose's Arena Footy Week 11 report, games balls, scores! Week 12 tips" Myk Aussie

From Moose "Game Balls for Week
11:1) Angel Estrada, New York, WR/DB
 2) Andy Kelly, all-time Pro Football Leader in TD passes
 3) Devon Wyman, DL/OL Dallas
 4) Eddie Moten, DS, Philadelphia
 5) Greg Krause, OL/DL, Orlando

    Dick Vermeil, ex-Philadelphia
Eagle, Kansas City Chiefs and Saint Louis Rams, two-time Super Bowl Coach,
was in attendance at the Philly Soul v. Chicago Rush game @ the Wachovia
Centre Arena and whatever he said at halftime and before the game helped the
team in a mild upset over slumping Chicago (no Grabowski's this Time, Mike
Ditka!). Orlando survived a major scare last night in Columbus and hung

on to beat the Destroyers of ex-Hawai'i Assoc. H. Coach (1980-82) Doug Kay,
39-36. Dallas took care of business in their win over New York which had to
utilize Nick Browder at QB 'cause Aaron Garcia is out for (at least) the
rest of the regular season. Andy Kelly ask for and got his release from the
awful Kansas City Brigade (though they upset L.A. last night) and Pro
Football's all-time leading TD thrower (tied with Aaron Garcia) should get
picked up by another team any day now (N.Y.?)

Was on the radio with Gabriel
Morency and (back) Jimmy Spencer [The Concordia Stinger]. Young Dave Simon
did a good job in the studio the last two weeks. 'Tangerine Dream' and here
"toys" were the 'warm-up'  act, kinda like how Eli Weasel was the warm
up act for the Old Dominion Monarchs' men's NCAA basketball team a few weeks
ago...Morency and I talked all Arenaball this week and Spencer is now
Introducing me with the the theme from Hawai'i Five-0! Brudder, Mahalo and
    Aloha Ka  A Nui!

More next week on that and
    more Arena Ball.
