Aussie Rules Footy. She played for the new in 2012 Ottawa Swans womens team and won the OAFL Womens Rookie of the Year Award. A great and 100% deserved effort.
Ray Kaduck is the founding President of the Ottawa Swans. Ray has great stories about how the Sydney Swans organization looked after him on a recent trip to Sydney.

Sydney Swans defeat Hawthorn Hawks by 10 points, 14-7=91 to 11-15=81 in a great 2012 AFL Grand Final. Mike Pyke a Canadian played well for
the Swans!

What a fantastic Grand Final it was. The lead not only changed several times in the game but the margins that each team lead by were quite

amazing. The Hawks took a good lead in the 1st quarter and then the Swans bounced back to have a great 2nd quarter. The Hawks then lead
in the 2nd half but the Swans fought back and finally in the dying moments won a great game.

Hawks are favourites by 14.5 points but talking with Keggan Haggison tonight in South Australia he is going for the Swans. Keggan also said

the predicted wet and windy weather should help the Swans. In the Advertise the Adelaide newspaper 5 of the 8 so called experts picked the

Swans. I'm putting a few dollars on the Swans. I'll be at the Georgetown Pub in Ottawa with the Ottawa Swans mens and womens teams and

other AFL fans watching the big game. It starts at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning and is on TSN2 Canadian TV.

BL&GFA Sth Aussie, South Gawler Lions great win over Willaston Donnybrooks in the McGahan-Heinrich Cup! Lions win all 4 grades! Detailed report from Matt Symes!

"The McGahan-Heinrich Cup was up for grabs in the A grade on Saturday and as expected was an absolute cracker with both teams in top form. We won all four grades on the day. The Reserves improved to 10-0 and the two Colts teams solidified their finals prospects. However the A-Grade was the big story of the day with our lads coming home with a wet sail to snatch an improbable victory late in the last quarter.

To say that the A-Grade was a memorable victory is an understatement. We were celebrating Past Players day on the weekend – which celebrated premierships for the 1952 &1992 A grade teams, 1962 & 1972 B grade, and 1972 Colts – thank you to David “Butchy” Barker for his work organsing the event. In addition, the match was the perpetual Josh Ahern trophy game in both football and Senior One netball.

The As were 28 points down at quarter time, 31 at the main break and 43 at the final change. We stormed home to win by 7 points in a vital win which keeps us just two points out of second place.

Big Justin Trewen was our best player on the day. He booted nine goals and was our focal point up forward, being involved in many of our 34 scoring opportunities. D Goulding, Matt Foldesdy and Dare were also high among our best players. 

In the Reserves game, Dave McGree’s lads kept their perfect season intact and increased their winning tally to 10-0. The lads enjoyed an 82 point victory, helped by five goals from Plugger O’Donoghue and three from Brenton Craig. Our best on the day were Tim Clift, Craig, and Adrian and Jonathan Costa.

The Senior Colts had a comfortable 43 point win with Judd-Smith and Dankiewicz booting three goals a piece. Dankiewicz, Joel Chapman and Tanner Ahl were our best players in a win which keeps double chance hopes in the Under 17s alive.

In the Junior Colts, we faced tough opposition from a determined Willaston but were the better side on the day with a solid 27 point victory.J Sheridan was named our best player and also kicked three goals.  He was well helped  by M Warner and S Blundell who featured highly in our awards.  Go Lions!" Yeh! I get to go to the footy again this week as the Ottawa Swans take on the Toronto Eagles in Ottawa. The Swans back at home will be looking for a big improvement from the past two weeks as they had to travel to Toronto to play. Reseves won by just under 100 points. Under 17s lost but the U15s came from behind to win by just 1 point. Just as good as a 20 goal margin. Go Lions."

It was a triumphant weekend for the Lions as we battled our old foe Central at the Dog Track. For decades it has mattered little where us and the Tigers were on the ladder as we’d always be guaranteed a tough game. On Saturday our hard training and the direction set by the club paid off as the A Grade had its biggest win in many seasons. Full credit to Central, but our lads were in winning form after last week’s win against Nuriootpa and everything just went right for us. Overall we are 20 wins from 24 matches as a club and currently leading in the BL&G’s Club of the Year voting – a fitting early reward for all the work done by so many players and volunteers both on and off the field.

The A Grade walked away 120 point victors in a percentage-boosting 28 goals to 12 win. Among our best were Justin Trewen with 8 goals, Matt Foldesdy – who is having a career-best year, and Aaron Bevis. Anton Geradis kicked seven including 5 in the first quarter. With ten goals to one in the first term, the game looked safe early. Full credit to our team for keeping the tempo up until the final siren.

In the Reserves, we ran out 89 point victors with our strong defence keeping the Tigers to just three goals and in the process keeping our undefeated steak going. Jake McVicar was dangerous around goals and our best player.  He won the Northside Trophies & Sportspower awards. Adrian Costa, Lee Makris and Brodie Barker also finished high in our awards.

The Under 17s lost for the second week in a row to a slick Tigers outfit who deserved to win. They will need to improve before we meet the Tigers again. Best were Jack Greatorex and Judd-Smith who won the Café Nova awards, and young Ben Torkington who was our third best. In the Under 15s we had the barest possible win with a one point victory over an impressive opposition to stay undefeated in Season 2012. Our lads were three goals down at the final break but rallied to snatch victory in the final minutes. Our best were M. Warner; while captain Ben Washington and D. Dankiewicz won the Mamma Mia pizza awards for second and third best.

This week we’re at home against league benchmark, Tanunda in what will be a significant test for our senior players.  We hope to see you at the club to support the Lions and hopefully get our lads over the line against the toughest of opponents." Matthew Symes.

Part of the South Gawler Lions report week 3 from Matt Symes!

Last week’s action started at the Den on Friday. First with the Auskick, Steve Nicolai and his team were flat out running after the little Auskickers teaching them all the skills to become future South Gawler champions. The U/9s put on a brave fight against Freeling in our first home games of the season. They tried hard against some really big kids on the opposition side. Next up the U/11 Whites played really well and won 33 to 19. Best players were Polkinghorne, McCrostie, Russell, Mckessor,Macri and Marschall. The U/11 Blues closed-out the night with a great win 74 points to 8. Best players were Smit, Gurney,Zobel, Riggs and Cheer. Overall a fantastic night.

In the Under 13s on Saturday our boys played well but lost to Freeling by 5 points. Led by Lenny "Barassi" Harakos, they went down in a thriller losing by a goal 4-8-32 to Freeling 5-8-38.

The U/15 dominated their game and displayed some awesome team work to win easliy.
Final scores were 19-10 -124 to Freeling 1-1-7. Our best players were Bradley Cheer, Tyson Panangiotou and S. Trenorden. 

The U/17s were also in control of a closer but physically demanding game. Final score was Lions 12-12-84 to Freeling 6-6-36. Sam Ireland was Best on Ground, followed by first-year Lion Tanner Ahl and D. Judd-Smith.

The Reserves had a comfortable 42 point win over the opposition to be one of just two undefeated teams in the competition.  They sit on top of the ladder and are starting to establish themselves as one of the league benchmark teams. Our best players were Luke Officer, Jake McVicar and Ronnie Lee with McVicar and Ash Parsons kicking three goals each.

In the A Grade, our lads won by 75 points after registering a dominating 37 scoring shots to the Redlegs’ 13.  After three rounds we are 2-1 in the A-Grade, our best start to the season in many years. Our captain Aaron Bayliss was Best on Ground, with D. Goulding and Mark Paget among our top players. Anton Geradis kicked five and is leading the BL&G goal kicking table with 13 from 3 matches." It was great to wake up on Saturday morning in Canada and read that the Crows defeated the Swans by 5 points especially seeing the game was played in Sydney.

I wish I was in Toronto today to watch some OAFL week 1 games including the Ottawa Swans game against the Toronto Rebels. It's a 5+ hr drive from Ottawa to Toronto so thus it's about a 15+ hr day just for me to watch and report on the games. I'll be trying to get to some Swans games this year in Toronto. From Mon May 1. BL&GFA Sth Australian Country football, South Gawler Lions 16-13=109 defeat Willaston Donnybrooks 11-13=79! A report from Matt Symes at the Lions!

It was great to wake up Saturday morning here in Eastern Canada and read that the South Gawler Lions A Grade defeated arch rival Willaston Donnybrooks. All other Lions teams won except the U13's.

From Matt Symes. "SGFC notes Rd 2. We couldn’t have asked for a much better weekend as the Lions made the trip over the bridge to Donnybrook territory in the weekend just gone. It started on Friday night as the under 9s fought hard but went down in the first match.  Under 11 White were equally as determined and went down fighting. Our Under 11 Blue team were four goals down at half time but got up to win by a point.  It’s a huge win for the boys which could be equivalent in learning and development to a half dozen easy victories. 

On Saturday we lost the first match with the Under 13s losing by five goals to a Willaston outfit which had 15 scoring shots to 4.  They were outplayed by a better opposition but were far from disgraced by the result. From then on we won all four of the main games including the all-important A-Grade which now have a 1-1 start to the season, setting us up well for this week’s first home match of the season against Angaston.

In the Under 15s, our captain Ben Washington was best on ground, followed by Mitch Warner and Dan Dankiewicz who won the Noodle Box and Mama Mia Pizzeria awards. The boys had 30 scoring shots to Willaston’s four on their way to an almost 100 point margin win. The dominance and winning margin continued in the Under 17s with the boys again just failing to reach the 100 point margin.  Sam Irelant and John Lavia were among our Best players with Brayden Lehmann picking-up our award for 3rd best.

The Reserves under new coach Dave McGree picked up their second win against last year’s form team, Willaston.  They had a scare in the third quarter as the Donnybrooks looked to come back into the game. However Ronnie Lee, Ben Rolton and Jake McVicar were more than up to the task and let our Reserves to an important 18 point win. 

In the main game, our A-Grade looked the better side for much of the game. They extended their margin slowly and by three quarter time were six goals in front.  The lead extended to eight goals early in the last term. The Donnybrooks fought back with late goals to reduce the margin to 30 points as they came home with the breeze. Matt Foldesdy again had a terrific game and was our best player, followed by Kristian Economou and Nathan Bartsch, who was third best and also won our Best Local Player award." Matt Symes

From Fri April 27. AFL picks week 5! The ANZAC Day clash was April 25. What a great game it was with the Magpies defeating the Bombers by 1 point. It was shown on TSN2 TV in Canada on Wednesday night!

From Tues April 17. How dangerous is a Swan? A man has died after being attacked by a Swan! Ottawa Swans!

I read this article today with interest. The reason why is last year Chris MacLean the coach of the OAFL Ottawa Swans was in the studio of CBC radio in Ottawa. As I was driving and listening, the host asked Chris, "Why the Swans? Kind of a weak animal to have as your team logo?" or something similar he said. The coach a bit annoyed seriously said "Have you ever messed with a Swan? I wouldn't want to!" Well how true that can be. What a amazing crazy story this is from BBC News

I'm really hoping the Ottawa Swans can play with aggression again this year, obviously not to the level of killing someone on the field like the Swan did to the man in the pond. (Note: I need to write that for any critical or not very smart people reading this.)

The Ottawa Swans had a much improved 2nd half of the 2011 season and will be looking to build on that this year. The Canadian guys really do love playing the game, many are good players, they train hard, they are very determined and aggressive. I am worried though that our Australian talent again won't be as good as most of the other OAFL sides. Six Australians are allowed on the field at once thus we need eight or more very good Australians here in Ottawa to compete with the stronger sides in the OAFL. From Thurs Mar 29. The Unknowns are the winners of the OAFL Ottawa Swans Metro League, a indoor competition. 2012 OAFL season starts May 5!

The Ottawa Swans indoor competition was again a great success. Seeing the footy players can't train outside until late April in Easter Canada the Ottawa Swans again this year ran a indoor competition. Many new Canadians were thus introduced to a modified version of Australian Rules Football.

Irishman Jim Stynes has died. He had been battling cancer for three years. Jim was a great player for the Melbourne Demons in the ruck and then club President. From Sat Mar 17. Crows Bernie Vince, good on him having some fun in pub. Sadly Aussie media and stupid people wanting some fame have become like USA BS in regards to stars and minor incidents. Bernie was then voted best player in the NAB Cup Final. Adelaide Crows win the 2012 AFL NAB Cup defeating the West Coast Eagles by 34 points!

From here in Canada it is very sad that I read reports like this. Bernie having some fun with his cricket mates in a country pub. He still had his underwear on. What a load of BS that this makes the news. Maybe I shouldn't be writing about it on here. The reason I'm doing it as I'm annoyed that Australia has "now/for awhile" been like USA BS in regards to chasing stars for any small incident then making it out like they are the worst people in the World. Trying to recruit players for the OAFL Ottawa Swans on my recent trip to South Australia!

I recently had a great trip to South Australia. Talking Australian Rules Football is always one of the main topics when I'm out with mates back home. On this great day at the Mallala pub with my brother I caught up with Craig Argent a longtime mate from the South Gawler Lions, my home team in South Australia. Arge now a Mallala Magpie "Off the field Legend" was telling me how his lad is currently in Whistler Canada working and snowboarding. So after I was telling him about the Ottawa Swans and the OAFL, hopefully Arge's lad comes out to the East of Canada once the snowboarding season has finished and plays for the Ottawa Swans in 2012. The Mallala Magpies are a very successful club in the Adelaide Plains Football League.

While I had Arge in a deserved headlock I told him not to diss my Aussie hat as 99% of Canadians and USA people luv it and that I don't care what Aussies think.

While in South Australia I also found another possible Ottawa Swans player for 2012.

What a great AFL Grand Final it was. There were many lead changes. It was only in the last 15 minutes that the Cats won the game. Final score, Geelong Cats 18-11=119 to Collingwood Magpies 12-9=81.

What a rippa of a AFL Grand Final it should be. On SportsInteraction.com the Cats are now favored by -3.5 points. Talking with Keggan Haggison tonight he says Magpies were favored by the bookies in Australia earlier in the week. He also says it could be wet weather in Melbourne.

In dry or wet weather Keggan thinks it will be a tight lowish scoring game. His heart says the Cats but his head says the Magpies. The Cats were Keggans AFL team before the Adelaide Crows entered the competition thus he is still a fan of the Cats.

Well I'm going for the Cats and against the spread as well. I also like them but more importantly I'm not a fan of the Collingwood Magpies. I'm hoping they will again be the Colliewobbles.

AFL Finals picks, week 3! Picks against the spread! Magpies vs Hawks shown at 2pm Fri EST on TSN2 in Canada!

I'm going for Collingwood Magpies over Hawthorn Hawks. On SportsInteraction.com the spread is -23.5 to the Magpies. Keggan Haggison in South Australia says Magpies by 15.

In the other final I'm going for Geelong Cats over West Coast Eagles. The spread is -26.5 to the Cats. Keggan says Cats by 25.

Damn I think its tough betting on AFL. In last weeks great game Eagles vs Blues with 5+ minutes to go the Eagles were up by 15 points and I had money on them at -14.5. They won by 3 points in a great game. I think Morency also had money on the Eagles as a result of my segment on his show from Friday night. Refer below.

I'm going for the Hawthorn Hawks to defeat the Sydney Swans. Kegan Haggison, my AFL advisor in South Australia says Hawks to win by 15 points. The spread on SportsInteraction.com is 12.5 to the Hawks.

Seeing that the game is in Perth, I'm going for the West Coast Eagles to defeat the Carlton Blues. Kegan says Eagles by 35 points. The spread on SportsInteraction.com is 14.5 points to the Eagles.

2011 AFL Finals are set! Picks against the spreads!

On Friday Sept 9, 3rd placed Hawthorn Hawks take on 2nd placed Geelong Cats at the MCG in the 2nd Qualifying Final. Cats to win and cover the spread of 5.5 points.

On Saturday Sept 10, 4th placed West Coast Eagles take on 1st placed Collingwood Magpies. The Eagles smashed the Crows last night. Morency has a liking for the Eagles seeing they won him money 2 weeks ago. Collingwood is my pick to win especially seein the game is in Melbourne and also to cover the spread of 29.5 points.

Also on Saturday 6th placed Saint Kilda Saints take on 7th placed Sydney Swans in the 2nd Elimination Final in Melbourne at the Etihad Stadium. With my 2010 and 2011 involvement with the Ottawa Swans I'll be hoping the Swans win this game. A few experts in Australia have picked the Swans but I'm going for the Saints to win but not to cover the spread of 17.5 points.

On Sunday Sept 11, 8th placed Essendon Bombers take on 5th placed Carlton Blues also at the MCG in Melbourne. I'll be hoping the mighty Essendon Bombers win this game. But I'm going for the Blues to win but not to cover the spread of 18.5 points.

I made the phone call to AFL Guru Kegan Haggison tonight to get his opinion on the AFL Finals week 1 and margins. I think Kegan was avoiding my phone calls this week seeing it was the last minor round of the AFL season. Some teams were resting players and there was no real relevance on many of the games thus I belive he didn't want to give his picks and margins. Fair enough! Would have been silly to bet on this weeks AFL games.

From Tues Aug 30. Wow! BL&GFA South Australian country, Barossa District lost Saturday’s Elimination First-Semi Final to Willaston as they had a extra player on the field!

This is quite the story from my home league the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association in South Australia. Barossa District had 1 extra player thus 19 players on the field at the start of the 4th quarter. Willaston called for a count and thus Barossa District lost their entire score and ultimately the match! Wow!

I believe some Sports fans in CDN and USA will be shocked at this. They may think it is "unsportsmanlike". It is the rule.

Also I get so annoyed when "some" coaches in the NFL and NBA complain when a team "runs up the score" as they say. To a Aussie that is a disgraceful complaint. You win and then bury a team at all chances. No holding back. Also many players on a Aussie Rules Football team are aiming for best players that day playing a team game and others are determined to hold onto their place in the side thus no letting up at all right to the final siren.

OAFL Hamilton Wildcats 12-15=87 defeat Ottawa Swans 8-6-54 in the final regular season game!

It was another good effort by the Swans as the Wildcats are 2nd on the OAFL Ladder. The Swans finish the season with 3 wins. A great improvement from last year. The team was competitive many weeks against some of the top teams. For the report on OttawaSwans.com

BL&GFA, South Gawler Lions Under 15's defeat Tanunda Magpies in the 1st Semi Final!

"With just the one team playing last Saturday our club was proud to see the Junior Colts win their First Semi Final against Tanunda.  It was the first time this season we’ve beaten the Magpies. The timing of our team and its first-year coaches Luke Officer and Sam Montgomerie could not have been better. After being down by two goals at the main break and then four points at three quarter time, our boys produced a mighty effort to win by ten points. 

Best on the day were Jack Millar, Brad Dankiewicz and Tyson Pantagiotou. Offy mentioned after the match that he was proud of his boys’ efforts to be within one win of the grand final after the challenges faced before this season even began.  He is determined that the Under 15 lads both enjoy their win, but at the same time remain disciplined and not become complacent." OAFL, Ottawa Swans 13-8 = 86 have a great 36 point win over the Broadview Hawks 8-2 = 50 in Toronto! Hamilton Wildcats come to Ottawa this Saturday for the last regular season game of the year!

There has been great improvemet this year by many of the Canadians on the Swans team along with the addition of some key Aussies. Centreman Daren Roffey the 2010 Swans Best and Fairest winner from South Australia has had another great year. Many weeks the Swans still don't play with the allowed 6 Australians on the field. This Saturday the 2nd placed Hamilton Wildcats come to Ottawa to take on the Swans. The Swans will be very keen to finish off the year with a win while the Wildcats will be trying to continue their great form as they prepare for the OAFL finals. The game will be played at the magnificent Rideau Carleton Raceway at 2pm.

This is fantastic, more International players a chance to play in the AFL!

On a very hot windy day in Ottaw the 2nd placed Demons were to good for the Swans. Hayden Walters from Ballarat Victoria up forward for the Demons was brilliant kicking 8 goals. Best players for the Swans; Darren Roffey, Chris Lockhart, Jay Goldhawk, Dave Martin, Will from Quebec Saints, Chris Peck.

This is fantastic that Rogers TV are today showing the game to the massive Toronto and area sports market. Toronto Rebels player Mike Coll and Willy Jong the Supervising Producer at Rogers TV in Toronto made this happen ASAP.

On Friday I ran into a Ottawa Cwoc (CWOC Cool Women Of Canada) lady friend. She was excited to tell me that on Thursday night she was flicking through the channels on her TV and was amazed/excited to see me interviewing James Maitland as part of the pre game show. Rogers TV in Ottawa replaying the game again on Thursday night was more great exposure for the Ottawa Swans and the OAFL Ontario Australian Football League.

From Sun June 12. Rogers TV Ch22 in Ottawa filmed the Ottawa Swans vs Toronto Rebels game on Saturday June 11 at Rideau Carleton Raceway. It was a 1st in Canada. The game was shown at 4.30pm and midnight on Sunday and on Rogers Ch22 in Ottawa!

From Thurs June 9. Rogers TV Ch22 in Ottawa are filming the Ottawa Swans vs Toronto Rebels game this Saturday, 2pm at Rideau Carleton Raceway! A 1st in Canada! MYKwebTV shows from 2010 Ottawa Swans vs High Park Demons!

This is great news and a 1st in Canada, a cable TV station filming a full Australian Rules Football game to be shown on Cable TV in Canada. I'm looking forward to hosting and commentating while James Maitland the currently injured Ottawa Swan and 2011 Canadian Northwind player will be cohosting and the color commentator.

On Tuesday night while the Swans were training we met with Alain Ouellette the Producer from Rogers TV. I am very impressed in what Rogers TV will be doing on Saturday. There will be up to 8 cameras filming the game and the footage will be edited Live. We will be doing a 5+ minute pregame show talking about the OAFL standings, the Ottawa Swans and Toronto Rebels season to date, how the teams will line up and talking about players to watch from each team. At 1/2 time and after the game we we will be conducting coach and player interviews.

Some Swans guys have worked hard to make this happen. The game will be shown on Rogers TV Ch 22 in Ottawa on a Sunday at 4.30pm within 1-2 weeks and then replayed several times during that week. Talking with Alain last night there is also a possibility Rogers TV in Toronto will also show the game. That would be huge for the OAFL. For more details check out the report on OttawaSwans.com

AFL Sydney Swan Champ Brett Kirk will be in Toronto this Saturday at the OAFL games and to promote the 2011 Intl Cup!

Talking with Bill Conroy the OAFL Secretary on Saturday, he was telling me how Brett will be playing a Div 2 game for the Etobicoke Roos at 10am Saturday at the Humber South oval in Toronto, then coaching a womens game and then umpiring a OAFL game. He will also be here to promote the 2011 International Cup and to help the Canadian Northwind team.

OAFL Rd 3 Etobicoke Roos 17-19 = 121 defeat Ottawa Swans 0-4 = 4! OAFL Rd 3 results!

The Swans started well. They were very determined and at 1/4 time the score was Roos 1-2 = 8 to Swans 0-3 = 3. During the 2nd quarter the Roos really started to show their skill and teamwork. At 1/2 time the score was Roo's 6-4 = 40 to Swans 0-3 = 3. The 2nd 1/2 was all Roos and they ran out winning by a big margin. The Roos Australian players led by Travis McKenzie are possibily the best group that I have seen in the OAFL including 2010 and to date in 2011. They named the following Best Players; D Allen, T McKenzie, C Haesler, J Harris, A Jacobs, A Patterson.

The Swans lost bigman James Maitland during the 2nd quarter with a possible serious ankle injury. Hopefully he will be OK for the 2011 International Cup in August. I'm looking forward to watching the Ottawa Swans vs Etobicoke Roos game on Saturday in Ottawa. The Swans have improved this season with quite a few much needed new players including several Aussies. I'm hoping the Swans can really take it to the Roo's like they did last year but the Roo's look like they may be the team to beat this year.

I believe Swans Legend Luke Walsh will be playing his 1st game for the Swans this season as he recently returned from a trip to Australia. It was a great effort by the Swans on Saturday against the Toronto Eagles. With 10 min's to go the Swans were within 14 points of the Eagles. Final score was Eagles 10-5 = 65 to Swans 5-8 = 38. Updated Mon May 16. Ooch! Cwoc's (Cool Women Of Canada) are allowed to play in Div 1 of the OAFL Ontario Australian Football League, Eastern Canada!

I have been a huge advocate/Calgary Kookaburras sponsor/web sportscaster of Womens footy in CDN and USA/talked on radio and TV of Womens Aussie Rules Footy in CDN and the USA. After some initial concerns that Aussie Rules Footy would be possibily viewed as a "girls/soft" game if CDN Womens Aussie Footy was formed in Calgary, I thought, No its mainly a good thing! Aussie Rules Footy is a tough/hard/at time dangerous game and I admire every Canadian guy or women that takes the field!

However I feel very strongly that women should not be allowed to play in Div 1 of the OAFL. There is a Div 2 with 6 teams, women are allowed to play in Div 2 until a Ontario Womens league is formed. I know many agree with me, maybe many disagree with me as well. After some confusion, I found out that there has been several games over the past few years when a women has played in the OAFL Div 1. In the OAFL Rd 1 last week the High Park Demons played a women against the Ottawa Swans.

Talking with many players, some OAFL official people and others over the weekend I believe "most/90% maybe" agree that women should not be playing in Div 1. I also need to clarify that when I was younger there was a belief cancer could come years later as a result of hits, bruising, blood clots etc. The womens breast area is a very delicate area, breast cancer is always in the news thus my real concern with women being hit in this area. Does anyone know what causes cancer? Stress can I believe. Maybe these days I can understand some people ripping into me about my statement saying hits possibily causing cancer but 30+ years ago when I was younger I grew up thinking differently by what was said at the time.

One guy I was talking that did not want to tackle the women in Rd 1 even suggested the Demons played a women to get a advantage knowing the guys would take it easy on her. That was one of my thoughts as well so it was good to hear that from a player. I don't believe this was the coaches thinking but it is a interesting concept if the women is a good player.

There is definite confusion still as to when this rule was made, when it was agreed upon, if in fact it was agreed upon by the voting people. Reading the discussion someone replied saying the rules has been in effect for several years but I was told officially over the weekend that 2 years ago it was not a rule. A mess yes, a interesting topic, definitly.

From Tues April 5. TSN2 in CDN AFL schedule! On TSN2 at midnight Saturday night in CDN, it was the Bombers vs Swans! Swans 14-14 = 98 defeated Bombers 13 - 15 = 93! It's Geelong Cats vs Port Adelaide Power/Paps this Saturday night, again at midnight here in EST CDN!

From Thurs Feb 24. Greg Everett is no longer Vice President of AFL Canada!

Greg has been heavily involved with Northwind the Canadian team and the OAFL, Ontario League for many years. I've known Greg since 2000 when I stayed at his house in Toronto. My mate Drew Haines from Gawler South Lions was living at Greg's and playing for the Toronto Eagles. I appreciated the bed at Gregs, we talked lots of footy. It was at this same time that I was lucky enough to be on TSN's Off The Record wearing my South Gawler Lions jersey.

I saw him having a kick last year for the Etobicoke Roo's in Division 2 along with doing lots of the work setting up at the 49th Parrallel Cup, which was the USA vs CDN games. I'm sure I will see Greg at the OAFL games this year.

New Canadian coaches in the OAFL, Ontario league! Wow, there are three Chris's as Canadian head coaches of OAFL teams!

The Toronto Downtown Dingos appoint Chris 'Butch' Buczkowski as head coach. Chris is the 1st Canadian coach ever at the Dingos. For the report on oafl.ca Click here

OAFL Ontario Canada, Ottawa Swans indoor competition is starting Feb 2!

With the regular minus 10-20 celcius temperatures upon us at this time of the year here in Ottawa, this is a great new competition. For the details Click here

OAFL Ontario Canada, Indoor Junior and Recruiting development sessions in Toronto!

Also in Toronto with the regular minus 10-20 celcius temperatures, this is excellent news just in from Martin Walter, President of the OAFL.

"I have personally (not the OAFL) paid for a number of one hour sessions at the UCC Bubble starting this Sunday at  9.15 am and every Sunday thereafter until March 6th.

Please, I encourage you all clubs to use this facility and to bring down and encourage any new recruits or juniors that you are working on or that you may find over this next 6 to seven week period.

Personally, I will have a bunch of our Demons there every week but don’t let that scare you off. So someone from the OAFL or the Demons FC (Ashley Martin) will most likely be taking training and of course  there will be separate sessions for new players.  So please use the facility to help your club recruit." Martin Walter, President OAFL.

These sessions are on Sundays starting today Jan 23 at the William P. Wilder Arena and Sports Complex at 200 Lonsdale Rd, Toronto. These sessions run through until Mar 6th. If you have any queries email me myk@mykaussie.com and I can get you in touch with Martin Walter.

I know he's going to be there to play as the overrated Cowboys can't make the Super Bowl. The Pro Bowl is now played the week before the Super Bowl thus Super Bowl players don't go to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. Making the Pro Bowl is huge for NFL players, great for their sucess and image as a player and very good for their current and or future NFL contracts.
