From Sat June 24 06.
Bombers Charles Roberts the Champ Bombers Running Back had a huge game rushing
for 133 yards off 33 carries. After a Huge last quarter in game 1 Champ NFLer
Running Back Ricky Williams struggled or can I say he had a shocker rushing for
14 yards off 8 carries. Seems the whole Argo's team really struggled. Can I
suggest losing Champ QB Damon Allen the 2005 MVP last week was the main reason.
I like the way Moose sticks up for the guys that have played in Arena, NFL
Europe and NCAA footy in his reports but sometimes Moose goes overboard. The CFL
is definitely the 2nd Best competition behind the NFL. Moose follows all these
leagues closer than anyone I know but Moose Ahhhhhh! You bagged Legend Damon
Allen sticking up for Spurgeon Wynn the former NFL Europe QB and look what
happened last night in his 1st start for the Argo's he threw for 94 yards, with
13 out of his 25 attempts found someone.

A report I received today from
the BC Lions Media. "Lions Take On Roughriders - Sunday June 25th - 4:00pm
At Taylor Field -
Regina
Television - TSN"
The Lions and Roughriders get
set to renew acquaintances a little over a week after opening up their 2006
regular seasons in Vancouver last Friday - a game that the 'Riders would like to
forget no doubt, and one the Lions would like to build on as they face five
divisional games in their first six tilts.
If the offence had some
questions going into Week 1 then the answers appear to be numbers 12, 81 and 88
as Dickenson threw for 362 yards on 28 completions and chalked up 5 TD's; all in
just three quarters of work. The offensive explosion was good enough for
Dickenson to pick-up Rogers CFL Offensive Player of the Week honours for Week 1.
Three of the scores landed safely in the arms of Simmons (1) and Simon (2) who
find themselves tied for second on the CFL receiving charts with 110 yards each.
More importantly, Dickenson was given valuable time to find receivers although
he was sacked three times.
One player unable to avoid
injury was slot back Jason Clermont who suffered a third-degree tear of his MCL
in the first quarter last Friday. While the injury does not require surgery, it
will keep the former Regina Ram from game action for as many as 12 weeks it's
estimated. While Clermont's absence will be noticeable, it does open the door
for one of a number of quality receivers the Lions hold in reserve. Look for
Paris Jackson to slide into Clermont's spot at slot.
Injured but available is Paul
McCallum whose pulled groin in Training Camp has forced Buono to seek out
another 'Riders castoff in Rob Pikula. The Western Ontario grad joined the club
earlier in the week. Look for Pikula to assume some if not all of the Lions
kicking duties Sunday and until McCallum returns to fulltime duty. Lions'
special teams got a good look at Saskatchewan's Dean Dorsey as he racked-up 173
kick-off return yards and added 61 more on punt returns. The gaudy numbers
earned the second-year 'Rider special teams nod on behalf of the CFL. They'll
have to be sharp to keep Dorsey under wraps in this one.
On defence the Lions had plenty
of pressure on 'Rider QB Kerry Joseph last Friday with D-linemen Nautyn McKay-Loescher,
Brent Johnson and Chris Wilson all recording sacks on the night. The D even
managed to put a major on the board thanks to Jamall Johnson's 39-yard return of
a Joseph fumble. The play also survived a Roughrider call for video review. With
two more games versus Saskatchewan in the offing, the Lions are keen to keep the
Green behind them in the standings. Buono and his staff know that another notch
in the win column in June may pay dividends come the fall.

Thanks to Mark Sports Stephen of Calgary's QR77 SportsTalk radio several Calgary
Kangaroo's players enjoyed a great game of CFL Footy Saturday night as the
Calgary Stampeders defeated the Edmonton Eskimos. I won 10 tickets to the game
after calling Mark on Thursday night to talk CFL along with Soccer and Western
Canadian Aussie Rules Footy. Roo's players Mozza our new ruckman, onballer
Richie, defender Matt Toohey, Champ Brad Flower and his Cwoc joined me and Roo's
coach Troy Rose at the pre game tailgate party and then we watched the game.
This was the 1st CFL game for few of these guys. I also met up with many Total-CFlers
at the Biggest Tailgate Party in the CFL. A great night!
Ricky Williams
stars in the last quarter for the Argonauts! Ricky's 1st official game in
the CFL was on Saturday in Toronto at the Skydome where the MLB Blue Jays also
play. Ricky had a slow start to the game but his last quarter was very good. He
ended up with 18 carries for 97 yards his longest being a 35 yard run in the
last quarter. He also caught 2 passes for 24 yards which included a 18 yard run.
I am very happy that Ricky had a great end to his 1st game after he struggled to
break clear in the 1st half. He looked very happy in the last quarter and after
the game as he chatted to his teammates on the sidelines.

Jason Clermont the BC Lions Champ and a Canadian injures his knee!
This is sad news as Jason is a great player and a great guy. It does appear it
is a serious knee injury. It was only a week ago that I had a chat with Jason
after the Big BC Lions win over the Stamps. I bet Jason works as hard as anyone
to recover and get back on the field for the Lions. Jason can be seen in my Grey
Cup 05 very popular Total-CFLwebTV shows.

"GreatWhiteNorth, a longtime and
very knowledgeable Total-CFLer, his excellent CFL West Preview!"
From GreatWhiteNorth "I'll
admit to some nerves as I look around the western division... but every team has
its questions and every team looks to have potential on paper. I'd rate BC as
the favorites going into the season, but that changes if they have Dickenson go
down and have to rely on Jackson or Pierce. Both showed well in pre-season and
could well step up, but that's a bit of a wild card. As with Edmonton, the
O-line performance will be scrutinized.
The Stamps were extremely hot down
the stretch, but they did have the oft-overlooked benefit of a favorable
schedule during that period. Burris has often got off to slow starts, and that
could be harmful this year given the divisional-heavy schedule. The secondary
also has some questions, but the Stamps seem pretty solid in most other areas,
including an excellent coaching staff.
The Riders should be improved over
last year, and this will really be a make or break year for Shivers and Barrett
(kind of like the Unfinished Business, it seems to keep repeating itself). I
wouldn't rate Joseph as being above middle-of-the-pack in today's CFL and he may
still be the weakest link at QB of all the western teams... and that's not a
criticism of him, but rather an indication of the strength out there. They've
added more than they've lost, but I'll remain curious as to whether their
defence can remain the second best in the league and whether the kicking game
will be effective.
If the Esks are going to win, it's
likely going to be on the strength of their defence. While the addition of Troy
Davis and the maturity of Matt Bertrand diversifies them, and the receiving
corps still ranks with any out there, I have some questions about their
reluctance to throw the long ball and stretch defences. This proved to be a
problem down the stretch last year and forced them to grind out a lot of games.
They did have the top defence last year, and while there will be some
transitions, I like some of the changes they've made, and the quality of players
that they're releasing (Montford, Collier, Fleiszer) speaks volumes to what they
think they have.
This division could definitely end
up in any number of permutations, but I'll still put my money on the Esks to
find a way into the playoffs. 34 years included some uphill struggles at times
and certainly speaks to overcoming the odds." GreatWhiteNorth, Total-CFL
Discussion.
From Thurs, June 15. CFL
06 season starts this Friday! This could be the Best CFL season ever as all
eight teams seem to have a chance to get to the Grey Cup! The Bombers and
Tiger-Cats have definitely improved with the Bombers now in the East. The West
Wow! All four teams are looking very good especially since the Ottawa Renegades
have folded and teams have picked up valuable players. I am not game to predict
the West as any of the 4 teams could finish 4th and miss a playoff berth.
The East, even though the Tiger-Cats seemed to have improved immensely I believe
they will finish 3rd behind the Alouettes and the Argonauts. The Bombers also
have improved but they have a long way to make up from the 05 season and thus I
am predicting the East to be Alouettes 1st, the Argonauts 2nd with the
Tiger-Cats 3rd and the Bombers 4th. I do hope NFLer Ricky Williams plays well
for the Argonauts.
The West. Lions, yes I am a Lions #1 fan so I gotta go for the Lions but if QB
Dave Dickenson "again" gets injured we could be in trouble. Riders should have a
great year now that they have Kerry Joseph at QB and Marcus Crandell ready to
step in. Stamps, although I do worry about the Stamps, why? Well I have seen it
in past years AKA 2000. Some/many of the Stamps players seem to get a attitude
and think they are unbeatable ie "Bigheaded" we call it in Aussie. So I worry
that the Stamps get a few wins and then think they are the best. They do have a
very good team this year and with Jim Barker as GM controlling the guys maybe
the Stamps do play well every week and don't get a "attitude".
The reigning Grey Cup the Eskimos still with Champ Ricky Ray at QB should again
have a very good team. There are question marks about their Offensive Line with
retirements but no doubt the extra $$ that Hughie the Eskimos boss has as
(Eskimos being the most attended CFL team) they have again spent $$$ to cover
any loses. If Ricky Ray goes down they could be in Big trouble with a unproven
backup Quarterback now that Jason Maas is leading the Tiger-Cats. Hmmm, Jason
Maas at the Tiger-Cats, that's a "Shock"! Joking here, as thought by many CFL
fans the Tiger-Cats did in fact sell out to the Eskimos a few weeks before the
CFL 05 playoffs trading their star Running Back Troy Davis to the Eskimos in
what at the time seemed a very one sided trade. Then within days of the Eskimos
winning the 05 CFL Grey Cup Jason Maas is at the Tiger-Cats. Yes I was dirty on
this as the Eskimos defeated the BC Lions to get to the Grey Cup. Check out the
CFL 05 Grey Cup Total-CFLwebTV as I interview the Tiger-Cats B-Jay Boys during
Grey Cup week about the "predicted" Jason Maas trade that did in fact eventuate.
